If I remember correctly, putting the character plate on the device and then giving them pets/positive attention improves their mood, which then leads to them being awake more often!

My sumikko screen won’t turn on after it goes to sleep , do you think is the battery. I use Amazon rechargeable batteries it was fully charged.
You have to hold down the button (I believe the one on the right) to wake the device.
