- Jeremy Hoskins finally broke into the 9s in his nitrous infused LS powered Mitsubishi Eclipse this past weekend at Holley LS Fest. This was easily the most creative swap at the event. The car is the brainchild of Jeremy himself as he even tuned it!

Was it the 200 shot that finally got single digs outta the car?
A clean pass on 150 was plenty. Found the rpm window switch was causing the nitrous to shut off mid run. The 10.5 run had nitrous for about 2 seconds according to the data log.
HoskinsPerformance Was the eclipse used for this unique swap a RS model? I saw manual windows... this has got me very interested, since I grew up in the v8 world and have a dsm now, it would be awesome to have a LSX motor in a DSM like you have done.
Don't get me wrong I applaud the man's work even more so since he did it all himself but why swap out the 4G63 for a LS? The 4G motor is one of the best 4cyl engines ever created. Sure they tend to have an issue with crankwalk on the 7 bolt 2nd gens but a well tuned 4G63 motor can easily stomp just about any car without nitrous. Don't believe me check out John Shepard and his 91 eagle talon. That beast is stock steel frame and glass (no lexan windows) he ran a 8.9 without his 100 shot. I think his fastest run was a 7.8 in which he lost and remember this is a 4cyl NOT a big block
The car in the video is no where close to a big block...John Shepards car is almost all fiberglass now and full lexan ...Shepard is also running like 55-60lbs of boost on what it probably a poured block ...the money that Sheppard has in his car ...can build 10 ls powered dsm's
I wouldn't say the 4g63 is one of the best 4 cylinders by any means man. One drag car built completely custom down to the block like dustin said doesn't make an engine a great engine. Oh and why you say? Because it's his car. Don't compare his awesome swap to John Shepards car that's dumb.
Sheps TALON when he had it (he retired the talon YEARS AGO) had steel doors, stock glass, rocked the 2.0 wasn't bored out and it ran low 8s without nitrous. Now I'm not sure if he did in fact switch to fiberglass I'm almost positive he didn't not with the talon. Now given it was a track car but even before he broke into 7s he regularly drove his car to the track it was a beast of a dsm. And I have to disagree dustin the 4G63 is definitely one of the best 4cyl engines ever engineered which is why it remained relatively unchanged for over a decade. And if you do a simple RUclips or Google search you'll find just about every import AND domestic vehicle has at least one 4g63 swap done to it. From a Honda civic si to a Ford Mustang gt Nissans too if you want reliable 4cyl power you go dsm.
I forgot to mention Shep typically ran upwards of 80lbs of boost with a 150 shot when doing his high 7 passes. But it wasn't a poured block it was the factory 2.0 cryo treated of course ;)
Jeremy Case I own a 1990 eclipse gsx and love the car even though it breaks something every other week but there is no replacement for displacement that ls motor is capable of 700 HP or more all motor and is easier to work on

I've got a blazer ss that got a little banged up this winter when I slide off road and rolled a couple of times it still crancks and drives just fine but the body is fked so I think of putting the ls and AWD transmission into an eclipse or a Evo but I kinda like the way the eclipse looks better and it's little lighter so it will be ls AWD eclipse plus most of the evos are like $40gs

Except it would have been nice to have a rwd option for drifting. Drift in your awd and first couple of times you pull that e-brake your center diff or rear diff is going to grenade oh maybe the viscus too.
Should have started with a GSX and used the trailblazer pan, would be TITS if it was AWD as well.
The issues with that are that getting a transmission, and diffs built to handle the power are not cheap. The factory DSM transmission and diffs can be built to handle the power, but its not cheap. there are 4g63 motors running 8second and 7 second passes.
That third pass , he left so late and still got in the 9's fast car!
What did you use for a k member to mount the motor and suspension I'm very interested in doing this swap I really like how you did the car it's bad ass

i too would like to know this. how do you take a fwd/awd car and turn it into a rwd? you'd need to find components that fit a 98.8" wheel base, but even then, nothing would bolt up so engine, trans, driveshaft, diff, axles...but how do you mount it all? especially the diff?

I am in the process of building my 98 eclipse into a drag car and was wondering what you used for a front end. I was just gonna build a tube chassis and use an 8.8 in the rear with a sbc and glide with brake.
the car is running high 9s, the 4g63 powered DSMs are now about to break into the 6s , there are now running 7.00, ya that ls swap is working real well if you want to be fucking slow lmao. like 2 seconds and trapping over 70 mph slower , 137 mph trap lmao seriously guys with completely stock blocks have run faster, boostins 4g63 Talon has trapped 213 mph, it just seems like a lot of trouble, to be so slow.
I knew I subbed to you for a reason, you keep kickin out real sick shit nearly every day I come on I find something that amazes me more.

It would have taken tons more money, the drivetrain would still need to be what is in there, and the engine would not have been dependable. Plus, I bet the LS is lighter than the 4g63. All of that cast iron bullshit is heavy.

Tim Ramich you do realize that the ls he’s using is an iron block? So it’s roughly 200 pounds or more heavy than it would be if he used the 4g63t
Tim Ramich not really. Putting the ls in the eclipse probably took tons of money. All that money he put in the swap and build he could have put it in a 4g63t and run probably faster. And plus the motor can output 500whp safely with a stock block and with some mods

Saw you run the Eclipse at LSFest, congratz on the car the entire crowd turned there head to and squinted at.
I'd love to find out more about the build. For example the rear end setup, motor setup on polates or mounts, etc... All factory mount locations or what??? Beautiful work on footage, and the build. Well done both parties!!

Esto no e un eclipse esto es una grosería para DSM, el motor 4g63 podría hacer eso y mas pero en cambio el decidió cambiar el 4g63 por una otro motor, si querías ese motor hubieras comprado un Mustang o un Camaro todo menos un DSM.

i have a eclipse but it reaches the 14 seconds but i upgraded it and now it reaches 10 seconds!

4g63s are nice engines but the ls family is on other level, much more power to be made.
I think you mean they are somewhat more reliable to hold more power.. however the 4g63 has made 7 second passes now. I cant say that it will remain super reliable for long running that much boost but boostin performance and the red demon have made some seriously fast 4g63 engines.
The 4G63 got into the 6's a decade ago, in a 2G chassis. Lookup Brent Rau and John Shepherd. Also lookup Andrew Brilliant's 2G land speed car to see how reliable a properly built 4G63 should be.
I know some of the fast 4g63 guys that have gone though lots of engines. I think some shops have finally made reliable fast ones that last more than one season, but I also know that there are some shops that have gone though lots of engines to get those numbers. Andre Brilliants car is a work of art.
