Petty, Pearson , Yarborough, Allison. Heroes of my childhood.1970’s Golden Age of NASCAR.We went to all tracks in North Carolina my home State. I still remember Darrel , he was a very outspoken driver. Fans were not happy with him. But he proved himself on the track. He finally won the acceptance of the fans.

I like David Pearson a lot back in the early seventies when all you could see was a little bit of racing on Wide World of Sports loved it back then everybody like Richard Petty but not me it was all about the silver fox

This is a great upload. I started following the sport in 1975, and have seen and read a lot from then on. This video had a lot of stories and video I've never seen before. All of the driver, crew chief, owner interviews and each season in pretty good detail. Interesting to see Waltrip tell how he got a lap down at Ontario in 1979. If you watch the video of that race it seems like he stays on the lead lap. After the race and even in his book he insists that he stayed on the lead lap. Even hearing him admit it now it still doesn't seem possible when you watch it.

I started watchin and actually paying attention more in 87... I was 3 and my favorite was Davey and daddy was for Bobby... wish they could have raced together a lil longer and I definitely would have liked to see just how Davey's career would have turned out... but that's just not how the story was supposed to play out I guess... but I still watch the old races when Davey was still alive... and enjoy them every time no matter how much I've seen them lol...

The video ends in 1979 which would be 30 years of NASCAR and 30 years of building up and growing a massive, loyal fanbase. 30 years after that, by 2009, NASCAR will have let all those fans know they do not matter and will have pissed away nearly all of the goodwill built up in the previous decades. In 2021, NASCAR is a shell of itself in terms of on-track product and off-track perception along with gimmicks rivaling the worst that WWE has ever put out leading to plummeting television ratings and attendance even without the COVID pandemic. There are fewer devoted NASCAR fans today, and by devoted I mean ones who will watch the races weekly and buy tickets to see races regularly, than at any point most likely since the early to mid 60's.
