how do you never need it? just by not ever giving a fuck what your parents think about you? or your siblings? or your friends? or yourself? thats what their saying. its pretty hard not to yearn for approval when you've hardly ever felt it. it's like happiness, or anger or anything like that. you're gonna need at least some of it in the long run, no matter what way you look at it, unless you just plan to rot away in your bed till you die, then i guess you could skip the approval.

Most actors are really insecure. Not all. And many of them have narcissistic tendencies. The key to auditioning is to go in with an "I don't give a shit if I get it or not, I am only here because I had nothing better to do today" mindset.

I think a lot of people arriving in Hollywood still have this romanticized sort of 1930s view of it and think they'll become this big film star and live happily ever after in a mansion in Beverly Hills. They arrive and realise there's half a million other aspiring but insecure actors living in LA who get constantly rejected and are living in misery! There's precious few nowadays who seem to want to make films and act for the artistic merit.

Controlled Opposition So what are you suggesting? That all conservative Republicans should just adopt the communist Democratic platform? Although I agree the "divide and conquer" strategy is being used on our society, joining forces is impossible from either side. They are diametrically opposed to one another. Funny thing is though, the vast majority of conservatives just want to live their lives in peace. They want a decent job, raise a family, and especially not be told how to live their own lives. But it is the left that is always forcing their ideological beliefs on our society. Now that they control our education system, media, and have a death grip on our justice system, well, it ain't lookin good for conservative America. Seems to me we're witnessing a slow genocide. So I guess you'll have your way in the end.

    Actors are unstable because
    1. Many lack mental resiliency or toughness. They lack the life experience or skills they need to cope with the emotions and characters they create. The mind will make that shit real, and theater school won't teach how to do with it, when it gets out of control.
    2. Its 60% looks, 45% network, 5% talent. When you go to a casting call where everyone looks like you, there's not much to differentiate yourself from others. Many resort to extreme measures to stand out or get noticed.
    3. Hollywood is full of angry beta males, running things, who are left uncheck because everyone is always fake nice (see no.2) or emotionally worn out or weak (see no 1.) to resist. (Tell me James Bond, or any ROMCOM is not the ultimate beta male fantasy.)

Yeah....The stress of having to work with a bunch of egomaniacs, dealing with production staff who think they understand the art better than you, working in multiple locations with no guarantee of the: weather,, sets, crew, lighting, cast all being perfect, rehearse after knocking off from your day job, staying healthy and in good voice, memorizing all of the: dialogue, blocking, facial expressions, timing, dance moves(if included), having an understanding partner who doesn't automatically think you're sleeping with the female lead and who knows you will be away a lot, making every moment exist as if that is the first and only time you've been in it and....to cap it all off, for stage acting: being able to feel the crowd and bring them into the narrative without them knowing you're doing that or feeling conned. Being able to truly enthrall and entertain a full theatre of paying customers is a tough gig. There are nights you wonder what went wrong and it wasn't anything you, or the other cast, could've done done anything about.
Then...you need to unwind. To let your motor get back to idle and allow the endorphins, serotonin and adrenaline to ebb back to a normal state.
    Now...go and get some sleep.
Oh...I forgot the audition process. Brutal!
I know people think ill of the 'Hollywood' types. That stands to reason as they've created that environment for themselves. The machine is relentless and there is a huge dose of self importance. Actors the world over don't associate with that group because it is a world of fakery. All smoke and mirrors and very little substance.
Now. Comedians on the other hand... They're all completely normal folk. Hahahaha!

  • @hollywoodraptor0016

I'm an actor and I honestly never been bothered by auditions or being rejected. I know these gatekeepers are tainted crazy folk, and I know their choices are so unpredictable that there is really no point in taking it personally. You NEVER find out the real reason you got picked or rejected anyway. (Except when you land on the casting couch cause that is some rock solid evidence). I always tell myself "This happened before, it will happen again, just stick to your craft and stay persistent and the moment you get to display your craft they will all go: Fuck us, we made a mistake!" By the way, for that to not make you look like a delusional asshole you actually have to be a good craftsmen though. Just so you know.

  • @MegaTeeruk

I did an audition for the movie Last Castle many years back and it was weird. They talked about me like I was not in the room for a bit and then after a couple minutes they looked at me and said "you would need to shave your head" I didn't know what to say cause it wasn't a question so I awkwardly stood there for what felt like a long time and then said "would that give me the role?" The lady said "we would need to see you with your head shaved". I told them I could not do that because my normal job was customer facing and my boss would lose her mind (well, more than usual she was always freaking out about something). That was that.
I never had much interest in acting though did some stage stuff to help friends who were playwrights. I'd just went down there because it was filming in my town and they specifically said they were looking for muscular, athletic men to fill small roles as military prisoners. The irony is years later I shaved my head and now keep it that way.

This is true ... however, as an actor myself, one should have a healthy outlet... I’m a martial artist... and yes... actors can’t be “conservative “ and the audition process is hard

Authority and power are two different things. Some people live a lifetime and never understand that.

I feel sympathetic for people like this... They should have read the Velveteen Rabbit as a kid (or even as adult). A quote:
“Real isn’t how you are made,” said the Skin Horse. “It’s a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real.”
“Does it hurt?” asked the Rabbit.
“Sometimes,” said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. “When you are Real you don’t mind being hurt.”
“Does it happen all at once, like being wound up,” he asked
“It doesn’t happen all at once,” said the Skin Horse. “You become. It takes a long time. That’s why it doesn’t happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.”

I thought I wanted to be an actor when I was a kid, and I was a huge class clown and loved to make people laugh. I’m really glad that notion faded over time, it seems wild out there. Wild can be fun hell yeah, but instability is way worse

OK I have a friend who is an acting coach and a professor at a small university in Ohio and we had this discussion once how does an actor create a character without losing themselves in the reality of it and his response was they create their character peripherally and not in front of them.
My response to that is we cannot live peripheral everything that we create is in front of us through feelings and thought.
Meaning what I/eye believe myself to be is what I/eye am.
I don’t mean we just put thought to it . I mean to sew it into our Being.
