i love how the video does the "here's us in slow motion, but the music is 15,000 bpm", scene and then follows up with "we're ordinary blokes, here's us eating food, but we sound like a pig being thrown in a blender while a church choir chants"
but wait! there's more...then in the middle of the church choir singing, Yngwie Malmsteen shows up to play the solo, and then there's an exorcism!!!
Yeah I love the whole ‘we’re just like you’re footage to the sound track of cats and pigs mating and vomiting 😂
I think if you watched his onetake you would understand why we are trying to get you to check them out.
Fair enough! I definitely have it on my list to do 😊💪
the pain remains trilogy is 20 minutes worth spending on the video, tells an epic tale. It touches on some deep subject matter in a good way. Well worth a watch imo.
I’ll definitely check it out. Sounds very intense but I’m up for it if everyone else it! Thanks for watching my dude 😊💪
I'll never be able to hear Will scream "We Are Infinite" without getting major chills
He’s impossibly good 😊
Will's one takes are actually worth watching! You can really see his face and hear his vocals raw and clear, not layered and buried in the mix. It's hella impressive trust me.
I’ll check it out seeing as it’s him 😊
Will actually did a one take live performance of this its on youtube, he did them for a lot of their songs, the vocals are mixed much higher and you can see his technique, its worth checking out. Courtney leplante for spiritbox and tatiana of jinger make similar videos. Yea in a lot of metal sometimes the singer takes a back seat and the drums/guitar are more priority, people like different things so its good to have a mix imo. Like you said Tool are a great example, some people joke its a band with a lead drummer and a rhythm singer. I saw lorna shore live in belfast and dublin earlier this year and honestly its unbelievable how good will is live and how much of it really is him since you can hear whats backing track and whats his mic in a live setting more easily.
So I’ve got Tatiana she’s wonderful I haven’t done spiritbox yet. But I’m of the belief I’m in for a treat 😊 thanks for the suggestions my dude 💜
@@SoulSingerDiscoversCircle With Me (one take) - Spiritbox would be a suggestion if you were to consider checking them out... there are a few of the one take videos though...
Saw Lorna Shore live. The one takes are legit, believe me. 😍
Gonna check it out 😊💜
He sounds the virtually the same live.
The breakdown in my opinion is both a highlight and a style of the music. its been a hallmark of deathcore since the very very start if the genre in the 2000s. For as long as i remember😅
in the beginning they werent this insane though.
I really love Lorna Shore! I've seen them live two times and they are amazing and sounds great live ❤
I’m so jealous! Thanks for watching Theresa 😊💜
I saw Lorna Shore back in May with Gojira and Mastodon. They have so much energy live! Even got to see a few members doing their little dancy dance to Gojira lol
That would have been a helluva a gig 😊💜
The breakdowns or drops are characteristic of the style, but do serve a purpose. You'll actually visibly see the effect when watching people who don't listen to this style of music when they first watch(and the best breakdowns get most everyone). Youll often see people start holding their breath, their posture starts straightening, muscles tense, teeth grit etc. People will place hands on their chest, fan their face, push against their legs, tabletop or chair, etc. The drops cause a halt in that. Your breathing changes, your heart rate etc. Its like a slap to your fight flight freeze response. But the response is very individual. In some people those changes occur on the leadup to the breakdown, but in others its during the breakdown. For example one person's heartrate might climb during the song, then drop during the breakdown, whereas mine is relaxed during the "fast tense" music, but it jumps during the breakdown. Probably because i find the wall of sound high bbm relaxing lol.
Most metal guitar pre-1985 or so was still largely blues based and focused a lot on the pentatonic minor. There were a few exceptions such as Randy Rhoads and Ritchie Blackmore, but the major catalyst for the break toward classical came when Yngwie Malmsteen hit the scene with his Rising Force solo work. He pulled from Bach and Paganini and was super fast and technical and composed his music according to classical rules, and his playing was a seismic event for the harder-edged metal styles.
Thanks for this Thomas! I loved these little side quests of information! :)
You should check out Will's one-take vocal play throughs. They're great
Yeah I’m definitely gonna give it a shot. He’s very versatile from what I’ve been told 😊
Absolutely love Lorna Shore and Will Ramos seems like a very cool guy. I saw them live for the first time earlier this year and I'm eager to catch them again
I am very jealous! He’s a great vocalist! Thanks for watching my dude 😊
Breakdowns and the vocal "call out" at the initiation of a breakdown comes from Hardcore Punk (the "core" part of Deathcore"). Hardcore is all about angry, violent energy; you may have seen videos of Hardcore shows where people are punching and kicking as a form of dancing (or even literally punching and beating the non-dancing crowd).
You could essentially look at an entire Hardcore song as a building of tension with that angry energy up to the breakdown, at which the call out is akin to a "come at me bro" an invitation to fight and a signal to release all that energy, and probably get drop kicked in the face by some 6'4" meathead wearing a cap if you're in the pit. That call out, I think, has stayed in *core genre breakdowns because it punctuates the beginning of what is usually the heaviest part of the song. There's a track "Acrania - Disillusion In A Discordant System" where the vocalist screams "SEND THEM TO THE SLAUGHTERHOUSE" for the callout and fuck me if it doesn't make me, someone who's always described as extremely chill, want to beat someone's grandmother to death with a frozen loaf of bread I stole from the corner shop.
This is more unhinged as it goes a long I love it! 😂😂 I once robbed a bank with a frozen loaf of bread but a story for another day. Thank you for watching my dude and your great comment 😊💜
@@SoulSingerDiscovers Metal and its myriad of subgenres are super interesting! You get this extremely complex interweaving of the culture surrounding each subgenre with the musical ideas that crop up and vice versa. Extremely fun watching you discover this stuff and hearing your thoughts.
I'd highly recommend you check out Slaughter's newest track "Viking", Phil Bozeman from Whitechapel, the track "Unearthed" by Torn Soul (which features Phil) and also Dickie Allen and his projects, especially Infant Annihilator.
Your definitely becoming one of my favorite reaction channels, I absolutely love your energy and sense of humour. Love Will and can't wait for more deathcore reactions 😁❤️.
Thank you Helena! I really appreciate you watching. I can’t wait to get into more myself. It’s a fascinating genre. 😊💜
I've found myself to consistently prefer the vocal performances of one take videos to their album release version. To The Hellfire is absolutely at the top of that list, Will makes different choices in vocal style placement in the one take that feel like how the official release should've done.
I’ll be looking at some of Wills one takes because even though I find some of them heavily doctored a lot of people are saying his aren’t so I’m up for that. Thanks for watching Robert 😊💪
@@SoulSingerDiscovers Justin Bonitz of Tallah is another good example, the guy has a very unique vocal style and his one takes feel a lot more raw than the studio recordings. From my own experiences seeing Tallah live, Justin's one takes are a closer approximation of the live experience they give than the album can provide.
Love Will. Can't wait til you do Dickie Allen and Infant Annihilator.
It’s coming soon and I can’t wait 😊
I would love to see Lorna Shore in concert
Same!! I think it would be full sensory overload but maybe in a good way 😂
@@SoulSingerDiscovers I was almost front row at a Slipknot concert so my sensory overload is due for another lol
i saw them at Download Festival in june and they were phenomenal.
Same!!
The sparseness of the breakdown is the reason its called a breakdown. If its more full, soundwise it becomes a c section bridge.
One of my favorite Lorna Shore's songs 🤘
It’s a topper! :)
The nice thing about the one-take performances by Will are that he’s more forward in the mix. He’s not TOO forward, but they push him a little further forward which helps show off his talent.
That’s interesting. I would be more tempted by that actually 😊
My Christmas card arrived yesterday. Thanks Melisa, made my day :D Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to you my dude! Drunk tidings be with you 😊💜
Pretty sure that I am a Patreon now! Merry Xmas, Gorgeous Scottish Lady! ❤❤❤
I try to hit Rob Halford 's notes. I try. We Love You. Pray for Me My Fine Scottish Lady! ❤❤❤
I got to meet Will twice in one day, sweetest guy you could ever meet 🖤
Yeah he seems like a totally wholesome guy 😊💜
Speaking of breakdowns, there's a recording on here of a gig played by Hardcore band Year of the Knife in March (before their accident) where they played their then-newest EP (first recording with Madi on lead vocals). Just as they pause for the breakdown in the first song, it's so quiet you can hear people's trainers squeaking on the floor in the pit before they come back in, which is mad cool to me: that switch from intensity to tension to release couldn't be more marked.
Pretty sure that breakdowns in hard/heavy music come from the Punk end of things, and got introduced into Metal through Thrash (especially Anthrax; Among the Living is full of them) and presumably Crossover bands (though my Crossover knowledge is pretty much non-existent).
That sound fantastic! You had me at tension and release. Good music always has it 😊
I love Lorna Shore - they've become one of my favorite bands. They're incredibly heavy and yet have wonderful melodic elements at the same time - and Will's vocals are just wild. I like to listen to them when I'm running. Nothing like blast beats and demonic screaming to get you moving, lol. I know you said you don't like one takes, but Will's are worth watching. You'll be able to hear him more clearly and see what he's doing better. He also has some vocal covers, and in fact, if you want to see something really wild, watch his Sleep Token covers. You'll hear his clean singing voice.
Yeah tbh I will most likely walk it back because he does have quite a few that I’m interested in and after watching his shorts I feel like they might be amazing. Thanks for watching 😊💜
I know how you feel about "one takes", but I really do think you should check out Will's "one take" of To The Hellfire. Whether it's live, or even a one take, is irrelevant to me. The choices he makes vocally are interesting, and the mixing is completely different.
I think you'd enjoy seeing the difference, even if it isn't in the context of a video for us. He's just fucking brilliant 😂
I might still check it out 😊
I really wish you would do the one take of this, i know you hate it, lol. But it shows awesome views of tongue placement and tunneling techniques. Love your videos
Tbh Jesse, I’m probably gonna walk it back and give the one take ago seeing as everyone in the comments was like ‘you HAVE to’, I’m not one for peer pressure but if it’s for a good reason I’ll fold 😂 thank you so much for watching 😊💜
THANK YOU! I literally say every time they come out with something that his voice is way way way too low in the mix and it feels like theyre almost trying to hide his voice
Thanks for watching my dude! 😊
Please next, react Lorna shore “Into The Earth”
I’ll check it out, thanks Dave 😊
Pain remains reaction!
i would love to see you react to Will Ramos’ cover of “chokehold” that’s on his youtube channel. i think you’ll be very pleasantly surprised 😃
I will check it out 😊
Will Ramos is good at the goblin screams but Dickie Allen of Infant Annihilator is the goblin god.
Next on the list 😉
@@SoulSingerDiscovers You won't be disappointed, he's goblin vocals are demonstrated very abundantly in Blasphemian and empusa queen of the damned.
I'm like... 1 minute in and already thinking, "you're such a tease" knowing that, sooner or later, you've commenced your venture down the rabbit hole and I can't wait for more.
Excited! Keep it up!
Edit: And not gonna lie, part of why I'm here, as a Canadian, is the Scottish Nonsense. It's awesome and I love it. If for some reason that will never come to existence arises where you somehow shed the Scottish-...ness, that will be the day I unsubscribe. Yes, I invented a... few... words along the way And yes, you have a greater claim to the English language than I ever could or will. C'est la vie.
I only want people to communicate with me through whisky babbles. I’m so glad you’re enjoying the channel. It’s a total joy for me to make these videos and even more so when I get the chat from you lot. Scottish nonsense be with you my dude 😊💜
Aye aye. America is not the only country and it's nice to see other corners of the anglosphere, too.
For a Finn, too, Scottish nonsense hits a lot closer to home.
im old and i prefer the less produced sound of metal as opposed to core, but even i have to admit Lorna Shore are fun.
It’s will voice mostly for me! He’s such a talent 😊
@@SoulSingerDiscovers the kids these days treat it like a science
Mental Cruelty-A Hill To Die Upon
...one of the few modern albums that sound like a real band all around...
did you notice, the orchestral parts were more present ... now i´m curious what you will say about "Sun//Eater", "Cursed to Die", "...and i return to nothingness" and of course the "Pain Remains" trilogy (have some tissues in your reach when watching the trilogy original videos, maybe you need one)
I’ll certainly be returning to Lorna shore. It was definitely more prominent than I expected. Thanks for watching my dude 😊
Not even for a reaction but watching Austin Archey do play throughs is insane.
There’s some amazing talent in the band 😊
makes me want to hear some Cradle of Filth
I watch a lot of one takes because yo can see how they make the sounds why I watch them myself anyway.
That’s fair. I’ll maybe check out one of Wills cos he’s fantastic 😊
I'm a huge fan of this band with Will. He isn't human.
I have to agree 😊
in all honesty my main taste in metal these days are either done in classical style harmonies or have a more progressive feel to it. the more rock based type of heavy metal is something i havent really gotten into in some time. Interestingly you find a sort of divide between Europe and the US on this as well. A lot more European bands than the US counter parts tends to be drawing heavily on classical harmonies.
It’s so interesting to me that any modern guitar based music wouldn’t pull more from blues because of my own background. It’s is a fair point 😊
Have you seen either of the Metallica videos (Enter Sandman and Creeping Death) or the Pantera video (Domination) from the Moscow 1991 performances? 1.6 million people. 20% of the population of Moscow at the time.🤯
.
If you are ever wondering about the difference between metal genres and core genres is that metal has solos, core has breakdowns. Now, as you can see, that doesn't mean core can't have solos, but you'll not often find a breakdown in a metal song. In fact, many metal purists actively dislike breakdowns.
Duuuudddeee!!! Thank you! This is the most straightforward explanation I’ve been given. Thank you 😊😂
Great song and band! If You are speaking of Judas Priest, please check out Turbo Lover! I am BEGGING YOU! One of My favorite songs...and I can sing it... We love Your expertise! Keep up the great work My Fine Scottish Lady! ❤❤❤
have you checked out Viking by Slaughter To Prevail or Doom Slayer by Alex Terrible?
It’s on the list to look at 😊
Heres the problem Lorna Shore has now. When they picked up Will they leveled up after a blah replacement vocalist. Then before the wow factor wore off they leveled up again with the Pain Remains trilogy. Now they're the guys that everyone wants to be like (along with a few others, like Slaughter To Prevail). Alex Terrible has just continuously upped his game slowly but steadily. Lorna Shore has to progress too, to keep their street cred. And they're going to have to pull a big rabbit out of their hat. Nice analysis!
Thanks Fred I appreciate that. I can’t imagine the pressure of trying to level up again after this. I’m sure they will come up with something wonderful but maaannn that’s gonna need to be an impressive trick. Thanks for watching my dude 😊💜
I don't see how that's a problem for Lorna Shore. Lol. Seems like a problem for other deathcore bands.
Yep. The problem with Pain Remains trilogy and the album is that how do you top that? It's terribly hard to make anything that's better and still remains within the genre.
Sometimes I like to understand the words... Other times I just don't care... Sometimes I drink... What was the question? Anyway a comment for the algorithm gods.
Thank you for this clearly written Metalhead musings for a new video 😂
I feel like you're ready for dickie allen now.
Infant annihilator- blasphemian.
Will Do. Thanks for watching my dude! :)
DeathCore ❤
:)
We don't call Will the Goblin prince for nothing. Some people call him the Goblin king but no. David Bowie will forever be the king of the goblins and in deathcore, that title belongs to Dickie Allen who has been doing deathcore vocals longer than Will has been alive and is one of his influences.
Also please talk more Scots at us as it is a beautiful language that deserves more exposure.
Aw thank you my dude! There’s plenty of those who wouldn’t agree with you on Scots but I’m glad you lot are enjoying it.
Honestly the Labyrinth reference is wonderful! Will really is a very talented man 😊💜
@@SoulSingerDiscoversYeah but we dinnae give a toss what those uncivilised scunners think. They are probably English anyway :P You should definitely check out the piece he did on bats. His speaking voice is so at odds with his metal vocals, it's hilarious. He has adorable golden retriever puppy energy.
As a german "Guten Tag" made me Laugh.
Aw Im so glad :) Im sorry if I butchered it
@@SoulSingerDiscovers It was actually pretty good.
You are always right!😁
Someone needs to tell my partner 😂
He knows 😉
Beautiful women are always right.
Haha…..keeping it real, don’t change. 👍
You got it! 😊💪
Funny you should mention goblins. Check out some of the Infant Annihilator tracks. That man is the Goblin King
Will do! Thanks for watching Ryan 😊
Listen to “Viking” by slaughter to prevail. It’s just as heavy as demolisher was
Can’t wait. He’s something else 😊
You should really look at reviewing Bridge City Sinners. Think Black Metal meets bluegrass.
That sounds transcendent 😊💜
you have heard the bear aka alex terrible the goblin aka will ramos its time i think for you to check out devil himself aka phil bozeman and his band whitechapel. the name comes from the region jack the ripper killed most of the people he killed so you can understand they are not just a band. they are from the founders of deathcore and phil is considered the goat of deathcore and especially lows along with mitch from suicide silence who has passed away rip. some good songs to check are possession, this is exile, somatic defilement adn the saw it the law
I have not no. I’ll need to add Whitechapel to the list. Thank you for this my dude 😊
It's like Emperor but better produced and the band are all better people. No disrespect to Emperor.
So, i guess, its time for Infant Annihilator - Unholy Gravebirth. Youll be shoked i think. Dickie Allen is beast
You’re not the first to mention them 😂 looking forward to being horrified 💪
@@SoulSingerDiscovers hell yeah 🤘😃
The one takes Will does are way better. No crazy layering.
I’ll probably check them out 😊
hahahaha.... you keep compensating for not doing Fleshgod, I like it 🙂
I swearrrrr!!!!!! 😂
You call Will Ramos a Goblin??! He is the PİG Not the Goblin. The goblin king is Dickie Allen of Infant Annihilator.
Excuse me sir but the Goblin King is David Bowie in Labyrinth 😂 I have IA on the list to watch. I’m looking forward to it 😊
@@SoulSingerDiscovers I advise you Blasphemian. You will see how good is Dickie.
are you purposely avoiding his one take playthroughs? when you focus on vocals they surely would be go to vids
You’re right but I’ve seen so many of them where the pitch correction is rampant and I’m not up for arguing with people who can’t hear it, that some of the so called one takes are nothing of the sort. I probably will bite the bullet and do alit at some point if folks really want it. Fair point 😊
@@SoulSingerDiscovers I suppose by pointing that kind of thing out you also bring something different to other folks reactions. So it could be a plus as much as it is a ball ache 😁. Seasons greetings and all that jazz. Have a good one.
reacts to the one takes he has🔥
I’ll try and give them a whirl 😊
Please do a reaction to my Favorite song of the EP As I Return to Nothingness.
I’ll add it to the list my dude 💜😊
obligatory "YEAH! YOU TELL EM ROSIE!" post
She’s out of control at the stage 😂
Yeah, a classic deathmetal breakdown. No big deal :)
It’s nice I like it 😊
If you want some more bands with women check out the butcher babies or crypta and you can't forget about Melissa bonny she is a beast
Melissa Bonny!?! What an amazing name! I surely will Adam, we definitely deserve some more female vocalist to listen to. This is a great start 😊💜
How about some Howlin' Wolf for some interesting vocals?
Ohhhh Adam!! You’ve opened the Pandora’s box of blues nonsense I listen to. Love Howlin wolf is one of my favs 😊💜
@@SoulSingerDiscovers I will sit back and wait for the nonsense to begin then! (if you can fit it into your channel parameters of course).
Please tell us WHY you 'don't trust' one takes? And heavy music has been juxtaposed with classical/orchestral music since Deep Purple did 'Concerto for Group and Orchestra' in 1969. The two styles go hand in glove, and always have. Have a listen to Wagner and tell me that's not 'prototype metal'....
So as I was saying in another comment a lot of one takes people have sent me have been pitch corrected up the wazoo, and not in fact a one take, and honestly I don’t have the energy to fight hard core fans who can’t hear it. I’m not looking to ruin anyone’s day or a beautiful lie about their favourite artist. That being said I may well have to do one for Will as he’s an amazing vocalist and perhaps have some faith. I will do thanks for the suggestion my dude 😊
Remove the breakdown and you've got Cradle of Filth 30 years ago.
I approve.
What a wonderful way to look at it 😊

Im not going to lie, but LS has never really done much for me musically so far, even though the ingredients are all there, and Will being a phenomenal pig copycat.
Theres potential in the formula but i find the orchestral arrangements a bit bland and run of the mill 🫣
I’ll be honest I’m not taken with the symphonic stuff in this as much as others but I see your point. I’m looking forward to watching some more LS and seeing where it goes 😊
@@SoulSingerDiscovers for sure. I'm gonna keep an eye on them cause I feel like one day their music might just click for me
