ORVIS - Fly Fishing Lessons - Rigging The Rod To Move To A New Spot

- Today, ORVIS casting instructor Peter Kutzer demonstrates how to rig your rod when you want to move to a new fishing spot. Walking through the woods with a fly rod can be a dangerous proposition, and more than a few tips get broken this way.
The best way to rig the rod keeps your tippet from crimping, keeps the line-to-leader connection from getting stuck in the tip top, and lets you get back to fishing as quickly as possible.

Orvis, I’m sure you know this but this guy is an excellent instructor. Explains things well and has a nice demeanor. Very easy to watch and understand. Great job and setting him up to do these videos.
I don't know why I didn't look this up before. I have the issue you talk about with the flyline/leader connection getting stuck in the end of the rod everytime and wondered why I needed such a long leader. But this helps. Thank you!
Just what I needed! I heard Tom mention this on a podcast but couldn't find the video. I just bought a rod and it doesn't have a hook keeper, can't wait to try out this method now.
Genius. I knew there had to be a better way. I bough the orvis Clearwater and it doesn’t have a hook keeper on it. The only negative so far. Ive been struggling every time I move up stream. Thank you. These little tips are huge
Thanks Peter! I absolutely love your stuff! I hope to half as good and knowledgeable about fly fishing as you and Tom rosenbauer one day!
Genius. You never disappoint Pete!
A tip I didn't know I should know about protecting my tip!

Good Fishing.
I don't fish, but it's exciting to see the angler fly so beautifully lol
That's wicked!
My new Orvis rod does not come with a hook keep so on the water today I was looking for a solution.
Thanks for such a wonderful video.
thumbs up!
Geniale
What are some of the different type of knots that you tie your tippet on to your leader, then what type of knot would I want to use to tie my fly to my tippet?
My new philosophy I'm fly fishing is WWPD. What Would Pete Do
Hook keeper thing doesn’t make sense since often times when fighting a fish the line will get past the rod tip.
i can't believe i never thought of that.. no more kinked leaders for me!
