I don’t think I want to start a fashion brand but I’ve always enjoyed the stories and thought processes you share on tik tok. I’m a fan of you as the entrepreneur and story teller and as someone who came from marketing and branding background I agree about the points on branding. Find your salad first before making the dressing!😂
Thank you for creating and sharing this video! I can feel your sincerity and really appreciate your insights. I'm inspired by your brand and your creativity :)
Such a huge inspiration for me, growing up in Western Melbourne doing everything I can to follow in your footsteps, appreciate your energy and openness 🙏🏻
I decided to try to make my own clothes earlier this year. After learning to sew and being able to make something I love for myself, I've been daydreaming about starting a fashion brand and small collections. I have deeper ideas and things I'd want to explore, but it feels like it would take so much time. I liked your direction about starting with something simple or one piece. Inspirational stuff, thank you - from a fellow Melbournian.
Damn, I have a fashion brand for 10 months now, we create couture dresses for special occasions and I just want to thank you for the information but also I just feel seen. I have a day job myself and managing these two has been exhausting (have been wanting to quit almost every week). Two months ago we got to do a dress for Nelly Furtado and there are things that still keep me going but oh my god, the struggle is real and there is always a fire to be managed. Thank you!
Awesome content as always. Btw is that a new version of gatherer jacket you are wearing? Was going to get one in wheat but my size is now gone.. (am 166cm so thinking size 0). Looking forward to grab the next version soon mate! :)
Hi Ken, isn't marketing budget SEPARATE from cost of goods then calculate margin? Or do you recommend baking marketing and cogs together then established your profit like your video?
You can do whatever you like when you’re a one person business. As long as you understand your costs you’re good to go. I included it because new brands get carried away with huge photoshoots and buying online ads for small releases.
@@FrontOfficeCo Thank you. Would you say that new brands can increase their marketing budgets to 15%-20% to get traction? How would you proportion organic vs online/FB ads efforts? And is it a good idea to start running ads from the beginning (even at $20-30/day)?
@@filmingyu6623 Hi there. I'm the wrong person to ask for what 'normally happens' in marketing I'm afraid. I've never run ads, ever. My marketing budget is not significant.
Ken, Take Ivy is a fake book. In the best way possible. Listen to the podcast "Articles of Interest" - American Ivy: Chapter 1-7. It's a brilliant investigative look at American - Japanese workwear & style relationship. You'll love it.
This is such a generous video. Thank you for sharing, hugely inspirational! Good luck!

Yes this is a heavier version for next year. Not the final version I must say. Still plenty to work out.

I have people asking if you can do a women’s gold polo

Hi there. The ‘fakeness’ is exactly the reason why it is interesting. Ametora by David Marx is good reading too.
You are writing your own story.
Thanks a lot for this video, it’s really great and encouraging 🫂
Glad it was helpful!
