    I mean, to be fair to the therapist and whoever wrote that line; it's definitely more reasonable to assume a kid is doing a ventriloquism than to assume ghosts. Especially in a world where ghosties aren't commonplace

    • @amberu1625
      @amberu1625 3 месяца назад +112

      I agree. People try to rationalize when faced with something insane like that. I know I'd rather believe the kid's doing ventriloquism than entertain the thought there's a demon in the room with me.

      I think the problem is that even though it’s realistic it’s not what viewers want to see, it’s just frustrating. And it doesn’t help cause there aren’t really any redeeming qualities to the writing, so it’s just frustration on top of a frustrating sandwich (I can def see it working, but this film ain’t it)

      Totally agree. Ever since The Conjuring, the bulk of the industry seemed hellbent on expanding their audience by pandering to mom content with plots where kids are the focus. I'm done with it. I'm not a parent, never will be, so it all rings hollow as hell now. I'm happy to see, though, that Sarah (sp?) has retained her good taste despite now being a parent.

      My neighborhood theater hasn't played a Rated R movie in a long time. It's clearly not profitable for them otherwise I'd imagine they would. It's very frustrating, but I know there are very good horror movies that are not rated R. I'm happy to have them as there really isn't that many.
      I hate to see trash made by trash directors and executives as a reason to disregard how PG(-13) horror can bring us together.
      Imaginary is not magically good if it had nudity, profanity, drugs and gore. Any great R movie can still be good as a PG13 movie. With the right editing and sound design we can imagine what can't be shown or said.
      Rating is no excuse to make a bad film.

    • @Yatukih_001

      Because the eventual future ´Imaginary: The Election´ is probably going to be so bad it will be less than one and a half hour and nobody will have any idea what that sequel was about. Blumhouse needs to realise - horror is STRICTLY for adults. Children already go through enough horror in life.

    At the end of the day Blumhouse is a production company, not a creative team. They only succeed when they get lucky and pick good directors, writers, and actors.
    Blumhouse has kind of screwed themselves by presenting as kind of a unique brand. They stamp their names pretty largely on all their promos. The CEO has a pretty public persona, trying to make them a household name and create a sort of parasocial relationship.
    No one says "oh man the new Paramount film sucked" but horror fans will say that about Blumhouse. Now their name turns people away. The way you feel about Blumhouse is the way I have felt for many years.
    Thank you for your review. ❤

    Your reviews are always constructive and well thought out. The thought of scripts being written by AI is scary as it will lead to more laziness and greed from Hollywood.
    In 2018 I wrote a short story about a haunted teddy bear which was brought to life by the tears of its creator. The story was inspired by a supposed real-life haunting and I wanted to use it to explore the loss of innocence you go through when you're in your teens. Last year I began a much longer version of the story and when I saw the trailer for Imaginary I was worried that people would think I stole the idea from the movie.

    A doll movie that is really good is Magic, staring Anthony Hopkins. I am not sure if it has been remade,
    but I am speaking of the film made in 1978.

    Im a film maker and i just wanted to comment that you really hit the nail on the head. Very good review because of that raw honesty. I can tell you know your movies and I really appreciated all you said here. I don't know - i struggle as a starving artist and sometimes I wonder how these creators got the 'go ahead' to make such films especially dialogue - I see that money spent and I tend to get angry lol but there is a logic going on - which you see clearly.
    It's a business model and A.I. concerned structure. It may save them some tasks but making a great film like oh say 'the shining' takes work. Kubrick even managed to use some 'bad dialogue' to emphasize the craziness of certain characters. Eyes Wide Shut (my personal fav movie) takes work - and imo is a great thriller/horror in its own way.
    Then even movies with small budgets like Session 9 - that are psychological horrors - can do so great - but it takes work. We tend to live in a world where some ppl review movies too harshly and others kiss ass - I just wanted to say that you are doing neither - you are giving a nice honest opinion that i (and many others) appreciate. Because yes we all have preferences - and it's fine to get super harsh sometimes or super positive other times about a film but i come to youtube and to your channel for your personal opinion - it's great take care.

    I could tell from the trailer it was going to be pretty bad. Its funny that you talk about writing prompt. The trailer kept ringing a bell in my head that i remember hearing they were working on a horror film pitched as a modern retelling of the little girl lost episode of the twilight zone. I actually liked that concept but it might have been a totally different film.

    I think this is the third review I've seen that said the script sounded like AI was responsible. That REALLY is pretty damning to the quality of the writing.

    I was actually enjoying the movie at first. Got pulled out of it somewhere around the reveal and was actively laughing at it after they cross the threshold. The premise and the bear with a red shirt on the poster made me think it was gonna be a more subtle horror adaptation of Winnie the Pooh.

    I just watched it in the cinema, and I literally told my friend some of the dialogues were so bad/strange, they seemed to be written by AI. The Old lady explaining what was happening right in front of our eyes... I couldn't help but laugh

    • @KellyvanRijkhuizen
      @KellyvanRijkhuizen 2 месяца назад

      Also. Something I really didn't understand (and annoyed me very much) was the part when the girl was gonna hurt herself with the nail. For a second they made it look like a flower, as if the girl didn't know what was happening and thought she was just gonna smash a flower. Which could've been a "fun" addition. But they already showed her being scared at the beginning, like she knew full well what was happening....

    I love your videos and this review certainly helped me decide not to watch the movie, but quick info: just because the movie has a box office of 12 mio, compared to the 10-12 mio budget, does not mean it broke even and is making profit. Marketing costs, distribution, that all costs as well and is usually not included in the budget. As well as the theaters getting a few bucks as well

    The movie was just okay for me, not great but not bad. About a 6 or 6.5/10 in my opinion. Some things in the movie didn’t make sense and it was cheesy. The acting wasn’t bad though. DeWanda Wise is a gorgeous woman wow. And the little girl Pyper Braun is really good at acting! And the twists were good, the whole ending scene when they’re in the imaginary world looked really cool. But the movie overall wasn’t good for me, just okay

    Night swim was laughable. This (imaginary) was laughably bad.
    There are only a few horror movies that are coming to theaters this year that i am genuinely looking forward to. Saw 11, the first omen, I saw the tv glow, longlegs. Terrifier 3 idk if its going to be in a theater near me but i am looking forward for that as well. The new The Strangers trilogy i'm on the fence about but i will still see that

    I really feel like this movie could have benefitted from an r rating and a second editor. I honestly liked a lot of it, but I also went in blind and found myself charmed by the themes *attempted* and imagery parts of it harkened back to (it definitely felt like this was written by someone scarred by Labyrinth).

    I almost went and watched it in the local theatre. Then I did more research nd found out that they were saying "from the producers behind..." in place of actual writers and directors, and it made me think immediately that they must be stretching to find something good to advertise their movie with. Good thing I waited lol
