My mom made rice for breakfast with raisins cooked in it.. not Minute Rice ..it was delicious and sweet from the hot soft raisins..we liked to add butter and milk to it. Thanks for the precious memories. She also made us Cream Of Wheat and oatmeal but mostly on the cold Ohio winter mornings. Thanks again for sharing.
We had the sweet milk and raisins too, but being picky asked for just cinnamon sugar and milk in my rice. We also ate a lot of cream of wheat or oatmeal, too.
I just made this. Put a pinch of cinnamon in it. It's sooooo tasty!! I'm having it tomorrow for supper with steamed pork. That's going to be a very good meal! Thanks for sharing!!
Mamaw made us rice, butter, suger, in the cold months before school. Left overs for dessert after supper. This is being made for certain. Thank you for the memories you conjure up in me.
We make a similar rice, called "Glorified Rice"; it, too, came from an old recipe, either out of a newspaper clipping or a church social. The hot rice with butter and sugar and maybe warm milk was often our "cereal", growing up. To this day, Cream of Rice is one of my favorite hot cereals
I ate the same for breakfast many times. Sometimes I'd a little bit of milk, but I usually just stirred the rice, butter and sugar well and ate it like that.
My diabetic nurse would have a fit over this recipe. But i have to tell you it looks delicious. I will have to make this for my grandchildren. And maybe sneak a taste or two.😉😁
@debramehan8644 Could you use a Monk Fruit sweetener in place of the sugar, since the Pineapple is in 100% Pineapple Juice? And perhaps use Orzo instead of white rice to lower the Glycemic value? Orzo and Pineapple are awesome together as well. :D
@@just-shipping-it Thank you. I will have to try that. The real recipe was sooooo good. But i would love to have more than one teaspoon. Thank you again for your idea.😊
I've seen pineapple rice served as a main dish, side dish, and dessert. I had a can of crushed pineapple where i had used some juice so I mixed it with rice and some English walnuts and then pecans. I preferred the pecans. I think I added one spoon (maybe something between a teaspoon and a tablespoon) of sugar to a little over 2 cups of rice. It was pretty good.
I was introduced to pine Apple rice....thank you so much been wanting the recipe for 30 years... I learned and tasted this a family reunion of my husband family...was in Jefferson, nc
My Grandmother made us rice but only used 1 tbsp of sugar & she added milk. We don't know how much but she always made it for us when we were sick. It was so good.
Love your story but hate that you had to be sick to get it. Thanks for sharing it with us and for watching our channel. Hope you're having a great day.
Yum! I will definitely be trying this. You know, we grew up on Minute Rice. I actually prefer the taste and especially the texture of it over the plain, unprocessed rice, which I think is too sticky. We never had rice with butter-or at least Mom didn’t use it. Maybe grandmother put it in before I came to the table. I’ll have to give it a try. Like they say, “Everything is bettah with buttah.” At home we had rice with sugar and milk, but grandmother always poured a little half-and-half over it which was so much better.
Years ago I would fix rice then add things to it. Never the pineapple but will try that too. Olives, yellow mustard, onions, whatever I had at the time, it would all taste good. Maybe you will make a video and other things to put in rice. Thank you for your videos!
I remember this dish, but they added a tub of Cool whip to it ... and called it a salad ... I think it was pineapple chunks in it... thanks for sharing.
I'm new here and so glad you came on my feed. I have been binge watching and cooking as I go. I must say these recipes have brought back so many fond memories of my childhood and solved some mystery ingredients that my mom would not tell anyone 😊. Looking forward to your cookbook. ❤
I found your channel a few weeks ago and have been watching your whole catalog over the evenings since! Ive got so many recipes to try now! Ty for sharing!
Cooked rice with a bit of sugar and cinnamon was a special breakfast for us before school on a cold day, but not often. It was my favorite when Mama would cook a few raisins in with the rice. I would have loved this! I love pineapple! Sounds so very good!😮
It would definitely make a great side dish. We are heading to Australia soon. Can't wait to visit your beautiful country! Thank you so much for watching our channel.
I loooooove anything with pineapple. I can't handle much sugar so I'll try it both ways and see which suits my taste the best. Thank you both for all you do.
Wish I could come and sit at your table. You are one of the best CooksI have ever watched. you are so neat. And clean explains everything step-by-step. I really enjoy. Watching you cook. And thanks to your Lovely wife for the video's
I love rice with butter, sugar and a dash of milk as a snack, my kid laughs at me. Never tried it with pineapple but I am going to for sure. I wonder if you ever ate it cold?
Rice for breakfast was my favorite breakfast, with the butter and sugar...plus cinnamon. But oh, I want to try pineapple rice!! Looks scrumptious and quick!
Consider draining the pineapple and make the juice part of the liquid for the water and this will make the dish less wet while only intensifying the flavor. If you need to cut the sugar consider replacing half or all of the sugar with granulated Swerve.
My mother used to make glorified rice which had pineapple in it and sometimes she’d put some chopped maraschino cherries. There was also whipped cream. Today you’d use cool whip. I loved it. I also liked frog eye salad. That was a bit more involved as it took a couple of days to make. These are nothing like your recipe. I wrote the comment before I finished watching. I’m going to try this. I’m making rice tomorrow so I’ll make a test serving. I made the pineapple casserole which was a big hit. This may be as well, but I’m going to test first.
Pineapple salsa is tasty. This would be a great addition to some spicy Mexican food. Sweet and spicy are my go to. I would probably lessen the sugar a bit though for an entree. For a side, full sugar
We think sometimes the simple ones are the best. This is a delightful one to be so easy. Thank you so much for watching our channel. We wish you a very Happy New Year!
I didn’t know you had a cookbook! Where can I buy it? I wonder if you could use karo syrup to get some extra sweetness for that pineapple in its own juice. I might try that and see. It might make the rice too sticky. I love anything pineapple and I think I would enjoy this for breakfast especially in the summertime.
How much rice to use if using regular rice? We enjoy rice in any way you fix it 😀 i am so enjoying watching your videos not only for the recipes but all of your tips and suggestions. I am going to use several of your recipes for Thanksgiving. God bless have a blessed Thanksgiving.
Im so glad i found your channel, There used to be a restaurant in the mountains of North Carolina called Greenfields, it was a family style place where they had country ham, fried chicken and about 7 or 8 vegetables pineapple rice was one of them, i loved it, yours looks perfect.
I think I would add some cinnamon and try it your way and then mine! I watch you and Melissa from Northern Michigan! Would be very interested in your cook book!
I just made this tonight to go with our dinner as a side dish. All I can say is that you must like your food REALLY sweet. It was very sweet, and mine was the pineapple in juice. It was also very "juicy". But in spite of those negative sounding comments, it was very good. I would probably cut down on the sugar and drain the pineapple next time. I do love your recipes, so keep them coming!
I remember having rice with milk and sugar as a child and into my early/mid teens. Now I can only eat a specific kind of rice and I don't even recall what it is.
My parents would make this for breakfast. But my mom she would either add what she had in the pantry whether that be pears or fruit cocktail or anything that had fruit within it or just regular fruit!

Tom has made a cookbook using a three ring binder. He’s made copies of it for our children. But one day, we’d love for him to actually publish it. Thank you for your sweet and encouraging comments. We truly appreciate you watching and sharing our videos.
The 3 ring binder is a fantastic idea!! I have been doing that for years with a plastic sheet protector. My Mom's recipe cards was stained with so many ingredients, you can't read some of her instructions or ingredients. My way, take the sheet out of the book and when done, wipe it off and put it back in the binder. Since I don't have any children, my close friend has requested 3 or 4 things from me and my "cook book" is one of them. Please finish your cook book, I would love to have a copy.
