  • Traveling from the Victorian goldfields to Far North Queensland for winter, I wish to share the journey as well as my own experience of the lost goldfields. Far North Queensland's lost goldfields are a fascinating chapter in Australia's gold mining history, filled with tales of adventure, hardship, and the relentless search for wealth. Here are some key highlights about the history of these goldfields @Free2Roam24

My father a Slovenian immigrant in 1950 was building bridges with the Australian government across rivers West of Cairns while me and my mother lived in a migrant camp just 10 km outside of town. It took him a whole nights walking by moonlight to get to our camp on Friday nights. It was the most adventurous and enjoyable part of my young life as a 5 year old and I used to go wading in the sandy bottoms of creeks and go chasing the crabs on the mudflats next to the Pacific Ocean.

Great video. Lived in far Nth Qld for many many years particularly in Innisfail. Experienced cyclone Larry …. An event etched in my memory. Seeing the rainforest totally stripped by the cyclone was devastating. It’s such a beautiful and diverse area up there. Have close friends and visit every year to go gold prospecting further north. I feel it’s my second home. Love Far Nth Qld. Thanks again for the video cheers.

Hi Lozz, Thanks for your support. I was here during Cyclone Larry as well and saw the devastation of this region. It is amazing how time will heal many things including Rainforests. I am glad you enjoyed the video and appreciate the feedback.
      Cheers Roz

Yes, Dean, it is very devastating. My home town is Innisfail, so I totally understand how difficult it is to rebuild and how long the recovery process takes. I wish you and your family all the best.
