WALKERINGHAM ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: - The village use to have a hotel called The Brickmakers Arms near Fountain Hill - There was a village post office/shop which was opposite the school but this closed within the last 10 years - There were many farms in the village but most have now gone and the barns have been converted into homes now - Caves Lane out towards Fountain Hill genuinely lives up to its name. It has some little caves!
Ooh I remember the post office from when I went to walkeringham primary because if we got a good score on a test you would tell your mum or dad and they would take you to the post office to get sweets as a reward. Also I remember the brick makers because on a Friday we would had a half day at school and every week ( because one of my friends parents owned the place ) we would go for lunch there and all our parents would talk and my two best friends at the time and I would have a right good time. We were all sad to see it go but we still have all the good memories of it at least.
Hi, I used to live in Walkeringham. My friend lived at the house that caught your attention at 3:10. It used to be a schoolhouse and is possibly the one you mentioned at 12:22 (can't be sure its the one you mentioned, but it was definitely an old Schoolhouse and it still has some features inside, an old wooden spiral staircase). The houses on the right at 14:44 used to the a pub and hotel called the Brickmakers Arms. The other pub The Three Horseshoes used to be opposite the red phonebox on the High street.
@@TheVillageIdiot definitely, I came for a walk here a few days ago , walked around and walked across the field on north Moore road to misterton and then back
The village use to have 2 pubs - the fox and hounds - the three horse shoes and a hotel - the brick makers arms - near fountain hill , there was a village post office /shop which was opposite the school but this closed in the last 10 years , there were many farms in the village but most have gone and the barns converted into homes now , there is a lane fountain hill way called caves lane with some little caves , there is so much to say about this amazing village
Caves? Wow, I've been in and around Walkeringham for years myself, and that is brand new to me. Are they part of the nature reserve? Caves Lane runs close to that
@@TheVillageIdiot I remember going as a kid to see the area and it was overgrown , it’s near the nature reserve - it’s the first road on the right (caves lane ) and the caves are on the right
My 2xgreat-grandad lived near the brickmakers Arms until his death. I've been trying to fathom exactly where abouts for years. Was there houses adjoining the pub or were they stables or something?
About the bridge … i happen to live next to it ( one of our gardens was used to dig up clay for the Brickyard ) and it is perfectly stable the only thing wrong about it is the railings( which no one will replace so all of us ,mainly our lovely next door neighbor, have to put up warning signs because we’re so scared that people will fall in ) but all in all the main bridge is fine so no need to worry about standing on it .
Oh don't worry I know it's not going to collapse, it was just more a case of highlighting the railings and making people aware that they're not the safest. That's good of you and your neighbours though. If they won't replace, that's definitely next best thing :D
I spent most of the 80s going down to walkeringham from gringley on my treader then motorbike. Its a wonderful village. There used to be a farm shop as well opposite side of the road from the school. There was a family on a tv programme which sold dodgy carpets. The programme was call 4 what it's worth. Also not too far away on the back road to gringley there used to be a roc post.

@@Mr29Kevin that I don't know but I imagine there were. Many pubs had buildings like that close by if not adjoined

I vaguely remember that farm shop from many years ago. I forgot all about it!
Redferns farm shop - last I heard they still lived there
I remember the carpet baggers being on TV in the early 90s - it was talk of the village
North Moor Rd is at North of village ?
It is yes, although it becomes Fountain Hill Road towards Fountain Hill
FYI - John Fenton's grandson became a well respected Lincolnshire Councillor.
