"The Solitary Rambler" is my series of amateur films of my journeys in the countryside accompanied by my own musical scores, which I compose and perform on my Yamaha keyboard.
Please note that, as with all the films I make, this is not actually intended to be an extensive guide to the area. This is a mini-movie of my personal journey along the walk, in which I often share some of my own personal stories.

Lovely walk Patrick, thank you. Found the music very relaxing too, good to sit back and enjoy, with a cup of tea.
Glad you enjoyed it Nuinmar, thank you 👍
Hello Patrick , another lovely walk the crags are spectacular and the river walk is so nice thank you Patrick.
You are very welcome Shaun, thank you for watching and commenting 👍
Another great walk, loved this video as always and it really feels the next best thing to being there! Creswell Crags look idylic, would love to see them in person. Your spot on about getting out on foot to really appreciate an area. Growing up in North Yorkshire I knew it was lovely but it was covid (1st lockdown in particular) when my wife and myself got out on foot and discovered loads of truly beautiful walks on our doorstep taking in moorland, woodland and the North yorkshire coast, all accessible from our house and weve been walking them all ever since and had it not been for lockdown, probably would never have discovered them and now walking is an addiction!! Thanks again Patrick for your effort and showing us more of our stunning country on foot; it really is appretiated.
Thanks for watching Jeff. Creswell Crags is worth visiting, a pretty spot in a lesser known part of Derbyshire. Certainly better to see things on foot! All the best 👍
What a fascinating video Patrick, so much to see, very lovely too. All your hard work is appreciated. Thank you, hope you have a wonderful weekend. 😀
Thanks Lesley, glad you enjoyed it. Hope you had a wonderful weekend too 👍
Great video once again thank you, love watching them good work

Hi Dave and Jean, I know you'd like to see Elmton again. Glad you've both got pover your Covid, it's certainly not nice. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
Thank you for sharing such a great walk. The history of what was found in the caves was amazing. I would definitely like to do that walk someday!
Glad you enjoyed it, the caves are great aren't they. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
Clowne is a beautiful, quiet town. I don't mind living there myself. Happy Easter, Patrick!
Thanks Richard, Happy Easter to you 👍
Lovely walk Patrick only done Creswell crags around that area forgot how lovely it is thanks for showing this
Glad you enjoyed it Mick, thanks for watching 👍
Thankyou again Patrick for another lovely walk, Cresswell Crags looked like a good place for a nice leisurely walk 🙂 I thought Clowne was a lovely place...Nice and quiet! Have a lovely Easter weekend 🐣
Glad you enjoyed it Steph. I like quiet places too 🙂 Thanks for watching and hope you have a lovely Easter too 👍
I visited Creswell Crags many years ago but dont think I was there for long, being part of a day drive from home. Your tour gave me chance to see much more of it, for which, many thanks. Beautiful just in its own right, without the added attraction of its prehistory. Think I might well go there again. Many thanks Patrick.
Thanks for watching Michael. Creswell Crags is indeed a beautiful spot and certainly worth visiting if you ever get the chance. There is an information and visitor centre there too, which I didn't have time to visit during the filming of this 👍
Another great walk Patrick. Haven’t been to Cresswell Crags! Now on the list. Have a lovely Easter 🐣
Thanks Ruth, happy Easter to you too! 👍
Another great video Patrick, looked a blustery one ... Loved the track by the water and the caves 😊
Thanks John, pleased you liked it. The walk around Creswell Crags is lovely 👍
A brilliant area with some interesting features, Patrick. I wouldn't have known what the Creswell Crags would have looked like until you have shown us on this video. Amazing to think that wild animals not normally associated with this country once roamed the area around the caves. etc., all those centuries ago. Many thanks for going out on this winter ramble and producing this most excellent video.
Glad you enjoyed it Ffranc, thanks for watching. Yeah it is amazing to think about those old mammals wandering around where we now spend our lives. All the best 👍
Morning Patrick. A very interesting video. I loved seeing Cresswell Crags . A nice walk again. Have alovely Easter and looking forward to your next walk.🙂👍
Thanks Cath, glad you enjoyed seeing Creswell Crags. Hope you're having a lovely easter too 🙂👍
@@solitaryrambler Aw thanks Patrick Yes thanks having a lovely Easter. See you on the next walk. 👍😊
thanks Patrick, yet another fantastic, delightful, wonderful video.cresswell crags look amazing,I have never been there,I will have to have a ride out there one day.the pen for lost animals you looked at was like the one you did a video in Staunton.cannot wait for another fantastic video.anyway happy Easter to you.dont eat to many Easter egg.take care.👍👍❌
Glad you enjoyed it Shane, thanks for watching. Creswell Crags is worth a visit if you've not been. Yes I remember the pen at Staunton too, very similar indeed. Happy Easter to you too, enjoy the weekend 👍
Creswell crags, what history they hold. Back when fierce wild animals roamed and we lived in caves and hunted them. Those were the days lol, at least they didn't have bills. I actually saw the Domes day book in 2017, at Lincoln castle. It was the first time it had been out of London for 250 years. Such an enjoyable and educational walk. Have an excellent Easter, Patrick and thank you so much 😁
Haha yeah no bills to pay back then, but I'm so glad we've evolved since those days all the same 🙂 Glad you enjoyed the walk Kelly. Thanks as always for watching and commenting. Hope you have a great Easter too 👍
Another educational walk Patrick. It is amazing to think that all that time ago man was surviving and thriving in these caves. We have come from hardy stock to living in shelters with WiFi and food delivered to your door. I really like how they say what type of animal was found where and what artifacts. We were definitely not the apex predator way back then. Another very interesting circular walk Patrick. Thanks for sharing.
Yes we've certainly evolved in droves since the caveman days Chris 🙂 The information boards at Creswell Crags are great aren't they. There's a visitor centre there too, which I didn't have time to include in this video unfortunately, but it's worth a visit. Thanks for watching as always 👍
Cheers Patrick another one of your amazing walks wish i could get more time to explore the peak district a bit more maybe when i retire perhaps not long now !! ha
Good one Russ, don't wish your life away though 😂😂😂😂😂
Another great video Patrick, I particularly enjoyed the tour of Cresswell crags., what a stunning area. Hopefully get to see one day. 🤞 Happy Easter to you. ❤️x
Many thanks Sylvia, glad you enjoyed it. Happy Easter to you too 👍
I visited the crags many years ago and Bolsover Castle.but have t really walked round the area. Thanks for another interesting walk Patrick.
Thanks for watching Kathryn, glad you enjoyed the walk 👍
Really enjoying this current series of films Patrick and seeing some very familiar places. I went to college in Clowne. I don’t think it is there any more. Creswell Crags is a lovely place. I remember many a school trip there back in the day!
Thanks Anthony, you'll know Clowne well then in that case. Not sure what happened to the college, but I know that Bolsover District Council HQ offices are now in Clowne. Creswell Crags is a good place for a school trip, I could see one going on whilst I was filming this 👍
Great Vlog Patrick .The Crags create a fusion Of Dovedale and Wetton Mill. In my eyes . Beautiful and interesting time warp location.👍
Glad you enjoyed it Richard, many thanks for watching 👍
@@solitaryrambler Thanks for doing the vlogs Patrick. Keep up the good work.👍
Thank you for the Jacket link. Love your peak District content btw. Planning on moving up there one day after a trip I made to matlock bath and Matlock last Autumn. Something about that area along the Derwent river really made me happy.
Nice one, hope you manage to move to the Peak District one day 👍
Cheers Patrick - great walk. Thanks for showing us yet more places that I would never even consider visiting - that Elm tree is definitely going on the 'to do' list. Love Creswell Crags!
Thanks for watching Leigh, glad you enjoyed it. Creswell Crags is a great place isn't it 👍
Happy Easter Patrick.. tnx for yr vid ..loved it... Not far away from our stamping ground.. 😊
Thanks for watching Ali, pleased you enjoyed it. Happy Easter to you too 👍
Love the shot of the corner store Patrick but love the shot of the old pump more. Now that draws me in. I can see the old village folk now getting their water each morning and talking to one another. I noticed the old school to - I enjoy them old school buildings for some reason. Gotta say a lot of interest in this really - the bison sculpture sounds awesome as does the other relics. In fact reminds me of King Arthurs cave Patrick, which you know. Well, more things unearthed. You do know it like the back of your hand even more now. All the best. Mark
That old pump was fab, wasn't it Mark. Just opposite the old pond. Great to imagine how the village life would have been back in those days. I also enjoy those old school buildings too, sturdy old things and wonderfully characterful. They do organised tours around the Crags, so you may see more of the relics of the bison sculptures and the others during those visits. Be great to see that. Ah yes King Arthurs Cave, remember it well. Long time ago now. Thanks for watching Mark, hope you are having a great Easter weekend. All the best 👍
@@solitaryrambler It was Patrick - the old springs had to be used - no piped water! And yeah them schools - sturdy. I imagine them tours to be very informative. Would be good for similar up at King Arthurs. A pleasure as always Patrick. My weekend - mellow thanks. All the best.
Another lovely video Patrick, I was only there the other week myself, Creswell crags and Elmton are beautiful places to visit, I’m thinking of tying them in with a visit to ‘The Dukeries garden centre’ next time 😀
Glad you enjoyed it Della, thanks for watching. Hope you enjoy your visit along with the garden centre if you go 👍
Excellent Patrick lovely walk that M8t (it’s amazing to the Animals that once roamed amongst us ) more like Africa than England
Fascinating caves🤠👍
Have a great weekend
ATB Simon🤠👍
Many thanks Simon! Thanks for watching 🙂 It is amazing to think all those animals were once where we now spend our lives. Glad you liked the caves 🙂 Thanks for watching and hope your weekend is going well for you too 👍
@@solitaryrambler thank you Patrick very well 🙏🏼
ATB m8t
Not an area I've visited, Patrick, but Elmton looked very nice! Decent looking pub too👍 All the best and take care👍😊
Morning Des, thanks for watching 😊 Aside from Creswell Crags, this is a lesser known part of Derbyshire really. Need to get in that pub myself one day! 👍😊
Another great film, another mention for Tesco😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks Paul, Sainsbury's next time 😂😂
There’s something special about walks with history attached. Thank you for sharing your walk with us Patrick 👍🏻
My pleasure Claire, thanks for watching 👍
I have not been to the areas you walked in. Always interesting seeing different areas, and learning about their histories. I must say Bolster does ring a bell though. Sounded very windy on your way. Some interesting angles in filming Crewel Craggs. I used to visit Nottingham in the past, and know there are scenic areas for walking.
There's a lot of fascinating history around Creswell Crags, and a visitor centre too, which unfortunately I didn't have time to visit when filming this. it was a bit windy from what I recall, very muddy too! Thanks Shanita for watching 👍
Don't know what your mates on about. Looked really nice there. People don't know what's on their doorstep do they?
That is very true 👍
Hi Patrick. Do you have a link to your jacket ?
