That was a wonderful comparison! Thank you. I preferred the M201, the MD441, and the M160. And surprisingly, the SM57 sounded smooth and refined on this guitar -- excellent mic placement!
My exact thoughts. 201 is very open and detailed. 441 had very pleasant high mids, no overbearing highs, generally flat but present. Sounded pretty well isolated as well. M160 sounded sweet. Chimy and no harshness as ribbons tend to do. Maybe pass on the reverb when shooting out in future for more objective and accurate representation.
All of the mics had their strong points. My 3 favorite would be the Sennheiser MD421-U4, Beyer M201 & M160. I preferred the midrange content of the MD421 over the MD441. The older Sennheiser MD431 is another good option for dynamic mics. Their response is tailored for vocals, but they also sound great on guitar amps & drums. They can still be found for reasonable prices. I have used both Beyer M201 and M160 on acoustic guitar many times. The older M260 also works nice for acoustic guitar-they have a bit more presence with a quicker response. The AKG D190E was a pleasant surprise-never heard one before, but it had an interesting sound.
Hard to tell sometimes, the brighter mics jump out at you but kind of sound shrill or nails on chalkboard sound. Prob better off with a nice smooth sounding mic the 441u sound smooth but nice detail.
Proving that you can make a pro level recording with ANY decent mic. I'm biased toward 441 (as I have one.) Nice to see the often overlooked AKG D-190 represented. I own six of them. : )
@@absolving D190's are great all around mics, much like an SM57, only sleeker. I have six of them that I use on tom toms. I honestly don't think I've ever sang through one as I have other, more high end mics but I have seen pictures of Queen's drummer Roger Taylor singing through one during their late 70's hey day. They are also all over his drum kit. They work very well on amps. Whether better than SM57, I can't say. If you find one it will be old. I call them Pope mics, as he often uses one in some of the pictures I've seen. : ) Peace.
Useless? I think this says more about your ear than the usefulness of this comparison video. Let me elaborate further... hearing the levels each microphone outputs at the same gain level is well... pretty damn useful. If you cannot ascertain distinctions between signals unless they have been level matched... maybe you should practice that instead of making actually very useful comments, I'll admit... because somebody else can read this and chuckle at the notion you suggested. I know Im being sarcastic and I mean no real offense... but dude... there are some really dumb myths floating around in the youtube comment sections.

im similiar, i felt i could do the most with 441 in the mix,
then m160, then m201

I like the 421. Is seemed to have character & tamed harsh frequencies while holding onto all of the sweet tones
m201 sounds nice and smooth for me and easier to eq and put in the mix, than others

I'm really struggling to figure out if I should get a D190E or not.. How do they sound on vocals and amps do you know?

I cant believe the Senn 441 sounds darker than the Beyer M 160 which is Ribbon !!!!
SM57 and M88 are the winner of this comparison
I'm looking through you!
You: Here's 9 different mics
My laptop: lol
“Some reverb” is generous
Do głosu mówionego md441u czy m88 ?
CLOSE IN SOUND AND CLARITY BUT I THINK THE M160 HAS A MORE SWEET CRYSTAL CLEAR TONE TO IT ..... JUST MY OPINION . WHAT ABOUT COST FOR EACH ?
just so you know it’s a ribbon not a dynamic
beyerdynamic m201
M160 works great with this not so great sounding guitar ..
I rather like the AKG D190 . . .
Senn MD441!
Pair the 421 and 441 and you have gold
@Dradonal ...You’re just saying that 😂
Thanks for advice. I have MD-441.
@@plan4studios977 no, I own both mics and use the two together for acoustic.
The 441 is such a great mic. It’s almost unfair to compare it to other dynamics on most sources.
Sorry, a. 441 doesn’t sound 9x better than a 57. Get a km184 for 800 bucks or an sm81 for 400. Whatever looks the coolest is what I choose. Lol
Volume levels not matched, makes comparisons useless . Thank you

@@mdb1100 Totally agree! We should all be very thankful for tests like this.
