Thank you for breaking this down, yet keeping it concise. It was right to the point and helped me a lot. I've been watching so many videos about integrating Maschine into various DAWs, but they often seemed to be taking the long approach. This video showed me exactly what to do quickly and efficiently.
Hey. Thank you so much for taking the time to write these kind words. Explaining techniques and thoughts in a quick efficient way is always one of my goals. So thank you 🙏
There’s a 4th way. You load Maschine up as a standalone instrument/app and then load logic (you have to do it in this order to get maschine to play nicely with Apple’s audio). You then use Maschine as an external midi instrument.
Hey. I appreciate the kind words. I have an updated/newer video on using Maschine with Logics Step sequencer if that’s something you’re interested in. Thanks for the support 🙏
@@BarryDanielMusic absolutely! I’m going to look for it and watch it today. I’m still kind of new at using Maschine, have a Mikro MK3, for the moment but might upgrade soon. Your videos are great. I’ll leave feedback for you after I watch it. Thanks again, Happy Holidays too you.
Super helpful. Thanks for this man. Can you go a bit more in-depth and make a video on the last method, with a full track? Instruments and transitions etc.. I'm trying to find the best workflow for my mk3 & 10.6. Bless!
Thank you so much for making this video, definitely one of the most helpful I've seen! The last technique is exactly what I was looking for. EDIT: I am having the same issue as Matthew Sharayko, the third method is not populating all MIDI tracks, just one at a time. EDIT 2: I figured it out. You need to be in "Pad" mode when dragging and dropping the MIDI, make sure you are not in "keyboard" mode.
Nice. I wish I could do everything in one box/piece of software but haven't found a way to do so that works with how I like to make music. What kind of music do you make?
@@BarryDanielMusic A nice little hybrid of hip hop, electronic, and indie. Definitely influenced by the UK sound too! Thanks for taking my comment into consideration.
If there’s a kit you like in Maschine or Battery you can search the kit name in the one-shot section of Komplete. Then you can shift select the 16 One shots that come up and drag them into Logic to create a DMD kit. Then save it to your user patches. Much easier than trying to use Maschine as a plugin within logic and more flexible with the DMD format.
@@marv2024 was the difference that Logic was quieter? There’s quite a lot of processing added with Maschine kits sometimes and I find they bounce out very loud (unless you adjust each kit piece internally). It’s sort of the reverse problem in logic normally for me so I normally fix this by doing something on the DMD track stack like copying the processing machine or making something new involving a soft clipper etc.
@@BarryDanielMusic Following the 3rd option: When I drag the midi to Logic, it is not breaking them out but rather consolidating them on one track. What am I doing wrong? I will love to have them on separate tracks. Thank you!
Good point about 50% in Maschine, 50% in Logic - I don’t like it either. You use Maschine like a sample generator, then arrange those audio samples in Logic. I guess I’m doing the same with samples from my free library or Loopcloud, but I don’t like committing, especially to the beats/patterns. I more used to keeping everything as midi, but maybe that’s just a change I need to accept 😅
Hey mate, thx a lot for the video, can you please explain how you managed to record a guitar track directly into Logic at 10:08? Or you used another controller?
Thank you! So in addition to having maschine connected (via USB) I also have a midi keyboard connected to my computer. For that part specifically I recorded it with the keyboard but if linked to logic (or any DAW) correctly you can use maschine as a midi controller as well.
awesome, thanks for this. is there also a way to export the samples (not the whole audio track file but just the samples) from maschine into lets say DMD in logic, and then use the maschine midi on it?
This was great thanks.... can I ask your opinion ... I have just got a mk3 and was considering returning it to get the mikro... would save 350€ but would probably get most of the software licenses stopped... although most of the software and kits are not what I will really use anyway... the mikro comes with 8 gigs of stuff and this maschine mk3 came with 25 gigs... took me 8 hours to install it all and after going through it I would probably not use most of it.. would you think its better to return it for the mikro as I want to use logic for arranging, mixing and mastering... or do you see a benefit in keeping the mk3 ... also I have a launchpad pro mk3 which I find much nicer to use for melodies as there are way more pads... would appreciate your opinion as I dont trust mine :) thanks
thanks! that's a great question. personally I too don't use much of the software that came with my maschine but the reason I'd say stick with the mk3 vs downgrading is the functionality. With the Mk3 you can pretty much start and finish a track without touching your computer. In my opinion it's a faster, more immersive experience where I can get in the flow of creating whereas the micros workflow is not.
Can you show how you organized your user samples in maschine? How to keep track of new samples added? And potentially how to filter out audio exports from old maschine projects that pop up in the sample library?
Great video. Once Maschine and Logic is setup as multi output, can you record directly in Logic using the pad on maschine instead of clicking and dragging the midi from maschine to Logic.
For this video I did not. Nor do I ever really use it it midi mode as it turns it into a regular midi controller. The benefit of that is you can assign each knob and button to a function within your DAW. The downside is you lose functionality for the maschine software while in midi mode.
Thank you so much! Very nice and informative video. Most probably i will also use as audio export methods and save the midi data in machine2. However, i would like to know how to use this device as midi recording device inside the logic pro x. I am not able to use my brand new Machine Mikro Mk3 in Midi function with Logic Pro X. I applied and tested already all videos and steps no luck. This system works normal get sounds however not able to record in Logic Pro x in Midi Mode. I just realized also that i don't have any Machine 2 Virtual Output visible under the Logic Input Port section. Is there anybody had the similar issues before ?
I have been trying to wrap my head around so many of these Maschine/Logic Pro videos. I've used Logic for years but am new to Maschine. I like Native Instrument sounds, but I don't feel comfortable in Maschine like I do Logic. Ultimately I'm sticking with exporting the audio from Maschine into Logic and arranging and mastering in Logic. I'll use Maschine as if it's an external Synth or Device. I tried the 3rd step but was confused with the midi/audio syncing patterns.
Like you I started off using logic and actually prefer the method you use too. Not just because it’s the most straight forward but it opens up CPU capacity for more mixing plugins.
Great video! If only all the functionality of MK3 or other Maschine hardware would work exactly the same as it does in standalone as a plug in, that would solve everything. I don’t understand why NI can’t make this happen. Seems like the LOGICal thing to do! Either that or make recording vocals in Maschine and the entire software function more as a DAW.
Right?? exactly what I've been complaining about for the past year. Machine would be great if you could run in midi mode and still have all the hardware functionality. Such a useless piece of hardware the way it is now.
I like the third option with routing but you lose all the functionality of the machine hardware with chord mode and the browser screen. Is there anyway to accomplish both?
I haven’t figured out a way to do so. It’s just one of those compromises. My one wish is that Apple or some other company would make Logic specific hardware
Hey that's a great question! From my understanding you can not use the logic sounds "within maschine" but you enable the maschine hardware aka your mk3 into midi mode and use it as a midi controller.
Great video, this is extremely helpful. Just an additional question, can you use the maschine mk3 or mikro mk3 to control the instruments that come with Logic, I mean without using the drums or guitars from the native instruments software? How?
Yes you can. In short you’ll have to configure your controller in the Controller Editor to determine which buttons and knobs control the functions in your DAW. Once configured you turn your Maschine into Midi Mode. That’s the very very short explanation but there’s a few videos and resources to walk you through the process step by step. 👍
For the third method, it doesn't auto populate each midi track to their corresponding audio tracks like it does in your example. I just get one midi track with everything on it
I am facing the same issue. Did you ever figure it out? EDIT: I figured it out. You need to be in "Pad" mode when dragging and dropping the MIDI, make sure you are not in "keyboard" mode.
