    Thank you! This should be recalled….many models have same issues. I would like a video on taking the seat apart and putting it together. However, it is self explanatory!

    Great video George.
    One point to note though, is that, it is very likely the solder will melt away when the heater really heats up for a long time. This, taking you back to the beginning.
    An alternative is to crimp the cables together using a straight lug.

      @jesusp.7774 Год назад +3

      Depends on the solder but on commond solder usually takes like 170c to melt and the heater gets aprox to 40c on high so I don't see the problem with a solder joint.... and plastics and leather star to burn on 120 c so I doubt it gets too hot to melt solder

      Also a solder joint have much better connection than a crimp

    I have the exact same issue with my Odyssey. Has there been some type of recall because of this or anything? Obviously it's not just wear and tear since so many others have had the exact same issue. I wonder if honda will fix this even out of warranty. Thanks for the video man. Just saved me idk how many hundreds of not thousands of dollars.

    This is a good repair and probably save you about 50 bucks for a heating element. I have the same thing happening to my '11 Odyssey but both seats are doing it now. How hard would it have been just beef up this design a little bit. Honda cars are not cheap and are known for their reliability so this pisses me off! But I am glad to know how things look and what to expect. Thanks!

    Great video. But…
    To other viewers who are thinking about attempting this… Removing the driver’s seat and the seat covers is NOT trivial in a 2012 Odyssey. It took me about 1-1/2 hours and a lot of cussing before I could access the connectors and check the heating elements. Both heating elements were both okay. So I am still searching for a solution for the problem of the heating switch going off.
    There is one big electrical connector under the seat. It would be easier if we knew which contacts in that connector go to the heating elements. Then you could determine if there is a break in the element before removing the seat.

      I think if I had put enough time into it, I could have found the short and repaired it, but I'm not sure I could have put the seat back to together and have it look "normal", so ended up having the dealer replace seat ($600).

    That's PERFECT! Soldering a line vs. buying and replacing a whole new assembly from the dealer. It's not a lot of money but that sounds like it'll work. Any updates on if it's still working?

    Which leads are you testing for continuity on the seat bottom? There are several in the wiring harness and I’m having difficulty tracing out the wires/colors from end to end. My seat back tests good.

    If the lights go on (for both Hi & Lo and both driver and passenger) -- is that unlikely the fuse, and more likely the heating element?

    Short out the back heating coil and the bottom heat coil will overheat and possibly burn the seat...

      Pull the seats out and apart, the covers are held on by metal clips there's like 50 you need good pliers it's actually hard work for my old Honda maybe newer ones are easier
