think it was '68 and attended a cards-dodgers game at chavez ravine ... game was called because of rain, one of the very few dodgers have had (and may have been the first) ... somehow we made it down to the clubhouse and i saw some of the players; standing among them was the retired stan musial -- well, i had to do it: i walked up to him and said, "hi, stan", and he said, "how ya doin', pal" -- one of my life's highlights
Such a good and decent man. "Stan the Man". I saw him play his last game, and it was in Cincinnati, and wouldn't you know it, the last time at bat he it's a single past Pete Rose at second base. They then took Stan out of the game to a standing ovation. Emotional? Damn right. Rest in peace Stan.
Yea Pennsylvania is loaded Stan Musial Ken Griffey jr Buddy bell Christy Mathewson Dick groat Reggie Jackson Honus Wagner mike Piazza Mike Mussina etc…
That was 1943..he had 701 plate appearances..Very impressive. As impressive as it is, HOF'er Joe Sewell was the toughest out in baseball history striking out only 114 times in 8333 PA.
Its totally awesome that Stan played high school baseball with Buddy Griffey and not only that but he played on an integrated team about a decade before Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier.
I have only recently seen a few of Stan Musial's games. But from what I've been told, and from all the places I have looked him up on, he seems to be one of, if not THE, greatest Cardinal to have ever lived
obviously hes the greatest cardinal ever, the question is where does he rank among his contemporaries? well he is 4th on the all time hit list, 3rd in doubles, and 6th in rbis while having a 330 career BA... 7 batting titles... 24 time all star, 3 mvps and 3 world series titles..... it depends how you rank players but he is a top 10 or 15 player of all time.
He IS the greatest to have ever played as a Cardinal. Who else would be greater? Gibson? Maybe, but I don't like comparing position players with Pitchers...
@@jacob45415 I'm def not mad at that, I'd say realistically between 5-10 with 5th being the highest I can possibly put him. The Mount Rushmore top 4 in my opinion is Ruth, Bonds, Mays, Aaron, and I'd prob put Cobb 5th honestly. What do you say?
I don't care what anyone says...Greatest hitter of all time.. and one of the greatest men to represent the game of baseball.
Could listen to the greats like Mr. Stan The Man Musial all day.

My Mom and her Mom met him at a restaurant in St. Louis years ago. Stan played harmonica. I'm jealous but happy for them 😂❤
Class, straight class Stan the man
Stan Musial is a prime example of why the Baseball Hall of Fame is so special a place.

RIP! The greatest Cardinal that ever lived, "THE MAN"!!
One season he struck out only 18 times. My god, amazing
Had a 3 K game ONCE in his career. Model of consistency.

One of my greatest sport experiences was seeing The Man play. #6 will forever be the greatest Cardinal.
Lucky before I was born, only way to pitch to stan musial was to 🚶♂️walk him

Do not talk about Stan Musial being underrated or any athlete, however talk about Stan Musial being underestimated as an athlete!
Seven Batting Titles.
Godspeed, Stan Musial.
He and Gil Hodges has to be near the top 2 upstanding players of all time.
I wish baseball players would of taken notes from Stan on how to be a great person in general...
Dang this was a month and 5 days before I was born
Damn I was 13 during this time
R.I.P.
The Red Sox comment was funny :) 2004...swept us. Dang it. '06 and '11 made up for it!
How 'bout a question on the Cardinal great Harry Caray?
Harry C called OUT (of St Louis), Caught with Augir Bus he’s Wife! Rule # 1~Do Not Get Caught! Rule 2~Keep Your Mouths Zipped unless together!
@@danthefan5378 i have a feeling harry's mouth didn't HAVE a zipper. that would be a minus in most professions.
I love "hopefully they'll win one of these day," and then two years later the red sox beat the cardinals. He probably didn't mean it like that
Musial is the Obama of baseball
