Great speech by Mr Scully during the Baseball Hall of Fame Induction in 1982. Can you believe that he passed on the 40th anniversary of him receiving the Ford C. Frick Award? I guessed it came full circle. Thank you for the memories and stories. Rest easy sir.

Vin used to frequent the Gelson's supermarket in Pacific Palisades. I used to work as a box boy there in high school and college. When I'd hear Vin say hello to the check out clerk, I'd sprint to the station for an opportunity to bag his groceries and shoot the breeze with him. Every time he'd ask me to help him and his wife carry out the groceries, and he'd throw me a twenty.
    This man is pure class.

what a fine humble man vin Scully is, he truly is the best ever in the history of this great all American sport and so we also ask our selves; out of all the baseball teams that would have been proud to have him as their commentator; why us? God bless him and his family always.

Ever so humble, I do not believe Vin would want anything more than to be mentioned amongst his peers, the other Ford Frick Award recipients and to have his photo and bio left forever in the "Scribes and Mikemen" exhibit of Cooperstown with those of whom have documented this game, which has given them so much.

Vin Scully isn't in the Hall of Fame. He is a recipient of the Ford Frick Award which is presented by the Hall of Fame. However if any broadcaster deserves to be a true HOF member--it's Vin Scully. He is the greatest broadcaster of all time. Period.

Read my first post again. No, he's not. No broadcaster is. What you are seeing in this clip is the closest a broadcaster can get to being enshrined in the HOF. He is receiving the 1982 Ford Frick Award for excellence in broadcasting as stated in the caption that appears at 3:58 of this video. Vin Scully has no plaque in the Hall of Fame.

@@Lava1964 I don't get that.....why shouldn't the broadcasters get a wing? They offer as much on their own as the players do. Doesn't seem right that they don't have one.

I went to my first baseball game this year and heard this guy's voice in the stands (a fan had a radio going). I didn't know who it was but I was impressed at their broadcasting skills. I later found out who it was and I feel privileged to experience my first MLB game listening to him. He's truly the Murray Walker of baseball. 67 years non-stop with one team, no-one will ever do that again.
