Stan the Man forever....my sports idol.....i could watch interviews of him all the time.....we are so lucky as Cardinals fans to have this legend in our history
Pete Rose is like a politician. His ability to interact and communicate is exceptional. It is just unfortunate that he has the character issues he has. His knowledge of baseball and love of the sport is clearly undeniable.
@M BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Soccer? It's the sport of the future in the United States. Just as it was a half century ago. Just as it will be a half century from now.
@M No. Soccer is a girls sport in the USA. Soccer is so big in all those poor 3rd World countries because it requires only a ball and a big field. It also doesn't require much brainpower.
BTW, Dave was a pitcher with the White Sox and very good as he also played with the Pistons. In 1964 he decided to stick to basketball and was the Pistons player coach at age 24.
Watch Pete Rose’s face light up with a big smile whenever Stan spoke highly of him. Getting compliments from someone he admired must have meant a lot to Pete. In fact getting complimented by a baseball legend is just as meaningful as getting inducted into the Hall of Fame. So though he was never inducted into the HOF, at least Pete got the satisfaction of receiving the high honor granted to him by Stan the Man Musial.
Pete said the great JUAN MARICHAL was his toughest pitcher to hit,he had 5 different pitches and didn't know what to expect plus he had that high kick windup
...and as Frank Robinson once noted that Marichal could throw all 5 pitches from 3 different angles; overhand, 3/4 and side arm! So for him that was 15 different pitches! Pretty devastating for any hitter.
Piss on the Hall of Fame. It's a country club. Rose worked hard to accomplish what he did. Whether or not he gets elected to have a plaque in the museum doesn't change anything
this video starts with the hit that tied Musial - it was the last day before the strike. When games finally resumed 2 months later, fans everywhere stayed away to show their disgust - except Philadelphia where 60,000 showed up to see Rose break the record. He earned his whole year's salary that day.
Longevity doesn't make you a great hitter. Rose is not even in the top 100 in lifetime batting average, and as a switch-hitter he's not even in the same ballpark as Mickey Mantle.
Pete had to face some of the best pitchers that ever lived,KOUFAX DRYSDALE GIBSON SEAVER RYAN CARLTON and others the National League's pitchers were very dominant during Pete's playing years and still had 4256 hits just amazing.
Stan brings up Ty Cobb and references Cobbs workout regimen, I read a story about a young Stan Musial talking with Cobb, and Cobb gave him a point of advice to Stan , to drink his coffee black and not add cream and sugar to his coffee because of added calories and weight gain
It's my understanding that Stan Musial worked hard to present a squeaky-clean image. When he had to have a smoke, he never smoked out in the open and in front of fans (ala Keith Hernandez) but, he would go under the bleachers so that the kids never saw a professional baseball player smoking. Not sure if that's true, but the guy was an amazing player. Pete Rose was another amazing player. Two of the greatest here!
Dave DeBusschre asking Stan...”Do you remember your last game...your last hit?”....Pete raises his hand...that video of Stan smacking his last hit past a lunging rookie named Pete Rose is available here on YT
Stan was all class and the greatest ambassador the game had. Pete is now the greatest ambassador the game has, tough lacks a little of Stan's class. After what Rose has gone through, it would be real easy for him to be bitter about the game, yet his love for it is evident if you watch his recent interviews. It is a shame there is no place for him in the game.
I was at that game , Rose vs Ryan...Let me tell.u something, Nolan Ryan decided after that lead off single by Rose, there was NO WAY he was breaking that record off of HIM !!!! Ryan breaks records against YOU , you dont break records off of HIM !!!!
And vice versa. Bob Gibson was a great basketball player at Creighton who could have played on any pro team. He played with the Globetrotters his first year out of college, and Meadowlark Lemon (who roomed with him) later said that he thought Gibby was actually a better basketball player than a baseball player!
"do you remember your last game your last hit?" "Well yes you know that was my last season?" REALLY? Your last game and last hit happened in your last season? Imagine that
People today in their 50s and 60s look younger then people in their 50s and 60s from 40 or more years ago. Some of those old black and white movies the actors might only be 35 but they looked 20 years older. As humans continue to evolve they are living longer and looking better and better for their age.
Most hits ever and he's not in the HOF. Come on Baseball, get your act together. Quit holding grudges. Pete got caught....whoopie. How many players gambled then and now? How many Umps were compromised? How many players? Sports is a cesspool of gambling, everyone knows it. Pete is the Hit King.
I read "A Terrible Beauty" about Ty Cobb and the players in his day were all alcoholics. You're not going to be playing well into your 40's with that lifestyle. Lol. But yeah, once the '80s rolled around the stakes (i.e., the money) were much higher. More incentive to play longer.
The consistency of Stan Musial was amazing. Of his 3630 hits 1815 were at home and 1815 hits on the road. Stan is still The Man.
I was fortunate to see Musial play once in 1960. Super player and a better man.
Dam rite about Stan the man.
cards1985 ...Great point....great stat
amazing stat and sorely overlooked..who will ever come close to doing that again?..
Sure was, amazing player. Most underrated player in MLB history
What two legends. I was fortunate to watch pete rose play for many years. What s ball player.
3 legends
2 legends - Pete should be in the HOF
7,886 total hits sitting there.
I'd rather listen and watch this stuff than anything on tv today.
I dont have TV. Have not watched the news now in 7 years! Im very happy!! TRY IT EVERYONE!!!! oh, & all you need is RUclips!
Great interview
Pete belongs in the HOF for that haircut alone.
I concur. He virtually had a "head helmet" of hair.
Fantastic Sams
lol
The Phillies should have given him a flat top.
Love it !!!
Legend pete rose and baseball
What a class act, The great Stan Musial
Legendary Stan manual, master hitter

Pete Rose is like a politician. His ability to interact and communicate is exceptional. It is just unfortunate that he has the character issues he has. His knowledge of baseball and love of the sport is clearly undeniable.
That was great
If Stan Musial had as many at-bats as Pete Rose he would have had 4,500 hits
Thats very true but I dont think Pete ever said or implied that he was a better hitter than Stan Musial.
@MAN UTD So, what's your point?
Stan musial had homerun power not just a single &double ,however pete rose was a switch hitter, but gives stan the man manual
@M BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Huge Knick fan so sad seeing Johnny Hoops John Andariese and Double D Dave DeBuscherre who we lost way too soon!
RIP John and Dave!
Pride of university of detroit
2019?? It's great to see Stan alive and talking it's just refreshing.. :)
Um, Stan passed away in 2013.
@@scottweber6789 Basically I'm asking if anyone's watching this in 2019. Please use your brain.. I live 11 miles from the arch lol. Tell me more.
@@iamthepapi6622 That's not what you said. So, please use your own brain.
Stan the Man - when he was 40 he hit . 400 the 2nd half of the season-
Pete rose has more talent about baseball in his head than anyone
Ted Williams was close
Pete rose is the smartest baseball man ever period
Stan was one of the nicest men in baseball.
not just baseball anywhere
tubularbill a d one of the best hitter ever
He was Polish. Enough said. : )
Stan musial master hitter
you betcha, Tube - and a Veteran of the Armed Forces
Great video. Never would've thought two basketball guys would be interviewing two of baseball's greatest players. Thanks.
Dave DeBusschere played for the White Sox in '62 and "63, also played for the Pistons and Knicks from "62 to "74.
What an interview!! 👍🤩
“A personable discussion.”
It turns out it was.
The smartest baseball mind never to get Hall of Fame status and Stan THE Man. All that's missing is Bob Costas and Mickey Mantle.
Man, that's a broad history of MLB sitting there.
@MANCHESTER UNITED I feel edified, now. Thanks.
8:50 when they talk about Musial's final hit where rookie Pete Rose was 2B
Comparing Pete Rose to Stan Musial is comparing Deric Jeter to Lou Gehrig. Case closed . 2- Rose vs Cobb ? Yeah ! I’ll take Rose 🌹
Pete said the great JUAN MARICHAL was his toughest pitcher to hit,he had 5 different pitches and didn't know what to expect plus he had that high kick windup

say what you want, Rose is one of the top 5 hitters of all time. probably the greatest switch hitter ever. and a all star at multiple positions
A Baller Mantle and Eddie Murray
Mantle may have something to say about that
Longevity doesn't make you a great hitter. Rose is not even in the top 100 in lifetime batting average, and as a switch-hitter he's not even in the same ballpark as Mickey Mantle.
I'll say what I want, Jonny.
You're clueless.
@A Baller ehh somewhat agree but def more than just a singles hitter
Pete had to face some of the best pitchers that ever lived,KOUFAX DRYSDALE GIBSON SEAVER RYAN CARLTON and others the National League's pitchers were very dominant during Pete's playing years and still had 4256 hits just amazing.
Add Juan Marichal,
@@garygarcia4929 Pete said MARICHAL gave him the most trouble...no.27 the great Juan MARICHAL
Stan brings up Ty Cobb and references Cobbs workout regimen, I read a story about a young Stan Musial talking with Cobb, and Cobb gave him a point of advice to Stan , to drink his coffee black and not add cream and sugar to his coffee because of added calories and weight gain
Cobb would go hunting every day off season and walk miles and miles to keep in shape.
FREE PETE!

I love those curtains!
Love ya stan! GO CARDS!!!
Even then Pete was comparing old with new baseball. Every time I hear him.
Stan Musial was repped for being such a good guy, I see its completely justified
Stan telling when baseball was great
LOVE THIS!!! Like a mini tutorial from two accomplished craftsmen. Thanks:)
I wanna get a hairstyle like Pete Rose.

rose was not the sharpest tool in the shed but its just goes to show if you work your ass off you can still get ahead in life.
Fuck are you? Einstein?

John Fogerty called...he wants his hair back.
At least I wasn't the only one in the 70's with a bowl haircut.
Rosie hof haircuts always
Why is he wearing a helmet ?
Because he’s Pete Rose
Pete should be in the Hall of Fame!
John and Dave look a lot of older I think 42 and 40 but the look late 50s early 60s
The money is why they try to play get in shape at this time
Money I need one more year
"do you remember your last game your last hit?"
"Well yes you know that was my last season?"
REALLY? Your last game and last hit happened in your last season? Imagine that
Lol.. so many jealous of charlie hustle!
No. Nobody is.
Stan was only 61 in this video but looks wayyy older

Btw, in the clip Stan did look more like 71 than 61 but he did live to be 92
“Stan your the greatest player ever tell me how that makes you feel?”
Stan: well you know I li…
*cuts him off*
“So Pete how’s the wife?”

chicago blacksox ring a bell,,,,,broke the worst rule in baseball and agreed to the lifetime ban

Some of you...
You know who you are...
Should be ashamed of yourselves.
rose rules
musial drools
hardly
John...
You're a fucking idiot.
Stan musial hit for power. Pete rose a super great single& double hitter
Stan Musial was 50 x the player Rose was.
Pete Rose doesn't even deserve to be on the same stage as Stan. He's nowhere near the player, or the man, that Stan was.
They both had longevity in baseball
@@youtubeguest9628 So. You obviously know nothing about baseball history, as it was before you were born, or you wouldn't make that comment.
He should not be in the Hall of Fame for the stupid haircut
Love it !!!
