It's actually very possible that Ridley survived prime 3. If you watch his death cutscene very closely, Ridley himself sinks into the ground while creating a phazon explosion. My personal theory on Ridley is that as long as most of his body is intact he can recover from injuries, which is why he keeps coming back seeing as how you only just shoot him in critical areas.
The Metroid Hatchling is from Metroid II: The Return of Samus. It followed her when it hatched and thought she was it's mother. However, Samus gave it to scientists, because 1: It's the last Metroid in existence (Because in Metroid II, Samus was exterminating all of them) and 2: She obviously isn't very fond of Metroids to begin with. Also, the Metroid's were created to keep the X Parasites on SR388 in check. (They're in Metroid Fusion)
Nah, you were right the first time around. The Hatchling was the last Metroid in existence. Metroid II takes place after the Prime series. The others in the future games are clones of it.
I don't think you're supposed to go through the lava. At the top of the chamber in 2:00 there is a fake wall you can walk through on the left. Equally hard to discover but I think as the only other option is a room filled with lava they expect you to use your xray beam and find it
The Ridley in Super is very likely just a revived clone, seeing that Omega Ridley was destroyed in Prime 3. That, or Omega Ridley just reverted back to Ridley. Nonetheless, after Metroid II, there was only one Metroid alive. The Prime series had a lot of Metroids around, so the Prime series can only take place between Metroid: Zero Mission and Metroid II. Also, Nintendo and Retro Studios' official Metroid timelines show the Prime games taking place after Zero Mission and before Metroid II.
I was stuck in the lair because I didn't know we had to power through the lava
one is acid, the other is magma...

I was stuck because I didn’t think the game would actually expect us to go through the acid. It’s kind of poor game design in my opinion (sorry!)

Now Samus is in her true full power, just wrecking everything in her way. :)
Did that Ninja Space Pirate kicked Samus in the butt!?
(Sorry, correct myself, the Hatching is ONE of the the last Metroid's in existence)
