I love this game. Its one of the best X-Men games of all time in my opinion. And what makes this even more special is it was made by Capcom. They sure knew how to make quality licensed games.
It seems very basic though... I feel like the Genesis games might have had some cool stuff, if both elements were added it would be perfect. It feels like it's missing what something like X Men 2 had. I dunno

I had never played it on original hardware so I thought it was something wrong with the rom or emulator itself lol.

I am surprised that you passed it with fucking cyclops. Cyclops is the slowest character. His shoot, while powerful, is slow and punishable, his combo has no dash and the lava is pretty fast. I used beast, wolverine or gambit since psylocke's dash had to be performed frame perfect to survive that (even though, she is Speedrun material)
When the N64 arrived I thought I could play games like COTA and SNK games like Samurai Showdown 2 and King of Fighters sucks Nintendo didn't got that direction they used to have with the SNES that had lot of arcade ports, wish I got a Saturn instead because I was more into fighting games than adventure games.
Seems like they gave Psylocke all the tough fights. Me and my cousin owned this game back in the day and we never got past Apocalypse. This game was hard as fuck. Had no idea there were this many bosses.
That ending really had a kind of "And then they all f*cked" vibe didn't it? I mean prof. X shows up with a bunch of ladies, and Bishop for Psylocke. Especially the last shot, after all ths others are showed paired up, we just see Wolverine from the waiste up, looking down, no Storm in sight.

Until today, veterans that read the old comics are still divided between team Storm and team Jubilee, both coexisting in peace because of the enemy in common, but team beast probably only exists in fuyoshi fans (and fucking Jean Grey)
i always beat magneto with wolverine. you can do his lunge attack through the 4 metal panel attack and then do his uppercut attack for a hit of damage. keep it up for like 6 minutes and you're golden
Beat magneto with every single character, beast and psylocke have similar plays, but you have some chances with beast to combo him (just don't use his feet, headbutt instead after the second punch) Gambit was the first one I win the game with. Bison kick is both a defensive and offensive move
Oh boy, another opportunity to say how unintentionally hilarious the ending of this game is. Everyone gets to be paired off, except Wolvie, who goes off into sullen 'badass' corner to sulk over the fact he doesn't get to be paired with Jean, he's even pouting. Storm was there in Prof X's harem plus Bishop, so they could have shown a graphic of the two of them.
Had Morph was there then he'll likely be paired with Wolverine. Storm was paired with Professor Xavier, Nightcrawler paired with Iceman, Cable paired Archangel, Spyke paired with Shadowcat, and Colossus paired with Deadpool.
Crazy how some throwaway SNES game from the 90s does more justice to the X-Men's characters than about 80-90% of the comics that have come out in the last two decades... **smh**

Technically Wolvie is doing his own DP from the vs games which is called tornado claw but yes is suppose to be his version of a shoryuken, what I find funny is Gambit can do a Knee press/Scissor kick like Bison in this game but he doesn't have that move in Xmen vs Street Fighter.

In TAS the sentinels had way creepier design than those in the live action movie. Which doesn't make their movie equivalent worse, just less climatic. On the other hand, the movie sentinels were much less of pushovers than those in TAS, or at the very least their future versions.

This game got me through the fact that playing X-Men : COTA at home was gonna be an impossibility during my middle school years.
All summer in 95 me and cousin played this and mastered it but I stilled haven't beaten the game with Beast yet
