A good HDR implementation for a game is such an underrated feature. On an OLED or even a good LCD the impact on the visuals is for up there with many raytracing based effects. Glad finally more people are realising that. Honestly HDR is a game changer not only the dynamics that get improved its also all the colors that were simply not there before appear!
More than the HDR, the gamechanger has been being able to buy affordably by the general public panels with a wider color gamut, and better color rendering. If you don't have the panel to reproduce the wider color gamut that these HDR implementations use like Rec. 2020, you are on the same spot that in the past.

Downloaded this, and figured out how to get the FSR 2.1 mod installed and working properly this evening pretty easily in about 10 minutes. Loaded back into my old save with all the settings turned up... mind blown! This game is sooo incredibly beautiful with ray tracing and proper HDR support. The colors are much deeper and rich than when I was testing Control on my 7900 XTX a month ago when I first got it. Really didn't feel like playing it with ray tracing at the time though, as it was in the mid 40's to high 30's, but with the FSR mod, I'm able to experience it at 4K max ray tracing right around 60fps. If I turn the ray tracing down to high, where I was testing it at previously at the 30-40 range, it stays really smooth around 80fps now. Thank you so much for sharing.
Wow! Thank you Alex!! And thank you to Fillipo for this patch!! Really cleaned up and improved some of the things that I found lacking in the original version, looks so much better!! GREAT WORK EVERYONE!! 👍🏻🙌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
RT, destructible enviroment, lot of physical objects - this is still one of the best looking games out there. I came back to finish it and play both DLCs and was impressed how smooth it runs with RT on 6GB laptop. There was only this textures issues which appeared mostly in main hub - sometimes I had to click pause button to load them in full res and I thought it was vram limitation.
Your timing is impeccable, Alex. I've been playing Control Ultimate Edition for the first time over the last two weeks and just finished the game and both DLCs in the last couple days. It's a fun and challenging game with excellent art design. I will definitely try out the mod, although I can't experience the full package given I have an RX 6750 XT. That said, I'm down for better HDR and improved texture streaming.
This is the first HDR-encoded DF video in years. More please! I’m sure the capture pipeline is a pain but even amateur playthroughs are being uploaded in HDR these days and the lack of DF HDR doesn’t reflect how most players experience these games in 2023.

It really is great. I wish I would have been able to experience the game for the first time in this manner. I wonder if this mod carries over to the DLC. I never played any of that
Great game. I played it on GamePass, then bought Ultimate Control & did a replay on my Series X with the next Gen upgrade. It also did me a favor by causing a blue blotch burn in on my 2016 TV, gave me a reason to upgrade to something much better.
I watched this videos simultaneously on my Note 9's HDR 10+ display and my SDR gaming display. It was really interesting seeing the differences! (well-mastered HDR on a HDR display basically looks insanely nice)

Love these types of videos mate, keep up the amazing work as always!
This game is amazing, I finished it a couple of months ago. 100% everything
For colorblind people like me, hdr support is a gamechanger. I might actually be able to finish Control now. Thanks, Alex and DF!
Wow! Thank you Alex!! And thank you to Fillipo for this patch!! Really cleaned up and improved some of the things that I found lacking in the original version, looks so much better!! GREAT WORK EVERYONE!! 👍🏻🙌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hell yes! Love your HDR uploads! Glad this got HDR updated and RT! Will have to revisit the game.
When I first saw it I thought it deserved the honor of being called the "first 9th generation game."
@@doughboy_6439 Agree and the artstyle used in this production is timeless
Loving the presentation in HDR
Vid is nice and crisp.
Content is top notch also. Cheers
Been eagerly awaiting your coverage of this patch, Alex! The developer deserves a ton of praise for this!
Any Control content is a worthy one. Control is one of the best games ever made, can't wait for the sequel
I hope it becomes an official patch, because it is a game changer!
had to turn my HDR on for the first time in weeks. looks great.
I hope this dev gets a promotion for this. This is absolutely awesome.
This mod looks fantastic on my Alienware AW3423DW monitor. HDR content is amazing on it.
The fact this guy works for Remedy now makes me so excited for the Max Payne remakes and Alan Wake 2.
It should be noted the mod also supports ultrawidescreen monitor resolutions.
Highly recommend this game. And if it’s your first time, it’s worth reading all the documents you find
yes yes yes! Already played with the mod. My favorite single-player game, so hyped for Alan Wake 2 and Control 2 (and project condor)
Filippo has said his last update is about it for the mod (late december 2023). So it's finished now. It's only got better since this video.
This is the first HDR-encoded DF video in years. More please! I’m sure the capture pipeline is a pain but even amateur playthroughs are being uploaded in HDR these days and the lack of DF HDR doesn’t reflect how most players experience these games in 2023.
Great video. Glad Alex made me aware of this mod. Control is one of my go to games which I always have installed along with the Resident Evils and Tomb Raiders. Love the game.
One of my favorite games, now it's time to play it again 💪
The Ultra Ray Tracing is probably not needed, but the improved texture streaming and DLSS mapping + HDR support are huge benefits !
I'd love to see more HDR content from DF and on RUclips in general. Don't see it enough, although I'd imagine it's more difficult/time consuming to edit that kind of content.
Oh wow, this video looks phenomenal in HDR. Please keep uploading like this guys.
Great timing. Only recently started playing this. I'll install this right away.
Interesting. That TAA ghosting effect really stood out to me when I played it. It was still a great game, but sometimes looked a little odd.
Thank you for publishing HDR showcase video... in HDR! Imagine a lot of people who hadn't bought this game or hadn't downloaded the mod wants to know what it will look like on their HDR screen before the bother.
I should really give this game a whirl after all this time.
It's phenomenal. The sense of atmosphere is second to none.
i tried but it looks so bad...i think the animations are still handmade. All those techniques dont help
It's a fantastic game.
(well-mastered HDR on a HDR display basically looks insanely nice)
a great demonstration of the difference of HDR. excellent content
Love it when you guys do hdr content. And can't wait to try out this mod later!
Was playing this the other day. Finally HDR + RT and it works well at 32:9. The only thing the game lacks is 3d audio now.
I have for a long time considered buying the game, I am definitely gonna buy it now.
I think I'll have to do another playthrough, this looks amazing!
Simply amazing, great work Filippo!
Gawd damn i love this game. I love all of Remedys games. If only we could get that Quantum Break lore connection with Control to be set with Alan Wake and Max Payne. Itd be such a badass universe tie in.
please, bring more attention to HDR implementation. almost no one talks about it, and i think its very important
