FEH's localized title for this song is "Embracing Destiny".

"...Get to know the people's sorrow. Your world and theirs are still worlds apart."
Shit, ghost Sigurd makes you feel all petty.

Just Sigurd being a jerk to his son for no reason. I never understood what he meant. Seliph already knows most of what the people endured at that point.

Diogo Jorge Seliph's personality is sort of an extension of the player's desires. It's partly why he has such an objective and observant personality.
The primary motivation the player has in Gen 2 is to defeat Alvis, after he killed Sigurd and your army in Gen 1. Sigurd in this moment is calling out both the player and Seliph for their goal to kill Alvis, without understanding the main themes of Gen 2. He's essentially saying "The point of Gen 2 wasn't your personal revenge scheme, it's bigger then that."

    • @DiogoJ1
      @DiogoJ1 7 лет назад +17

It's not like Seliph intended to stop at Arvis. Julius needs to die as well. Lewyn pretty much makes that abundantly clear.
It's not about revenge, it's about justice.

Sigurd just wanted to say that to his son. Roasting is in the family.

There are a few meanings to Sigurd's words. Seliph professes that he "avenged" his father, but Sigurd shoots this down, essentially saying that empathy is one of the most important virtues for one to have, and that Arvis was still a person. It's why Seliph eventually forgives Arvis in the end. Empathy also extends to your friends: he wanted Seliph to remember that he didn't do it alone, and this isn't just Seliph's personal quest but all of Jugdral's, which is especially relevant considering how Sigurd himself led almost all of Gen 1 to their deaths.
Simply, Seliph was (understandably) exhausted and caught up in the moment after killing Arvis. Sigurd was just trying to nudge him further, since he still had the rest of the country to liberate.

After 22 years... Sigurd finally won against Alvis...
(In the Fire Emblem Heroes Voting Gauntlet, that is.)

A similar message is conveyed to Leif by August in Thracia 776. Even though both his and Seliph's lives had abysmal turns, they always had loyal retainers that made sure they never went to bed hungry. The common folk always has to look after themselves - you either work for your meal or go to bed hungry (or worse). One of the best messages that could be conveyed through a videogame, honestly: even though things looked always bad to you, you must make your decisions with people with even worse conditions in mind.

This theme is so close to make me cry when played in Chapter 10. Not only do you get to see Sigurd again (who is my favorite character of all-time, don't judge me), but you also get to see him tell his son a very important life lesson, one that will truly be useful for him when he'll eventually recreate Grannvale from the groundup. It just makes Seliph learn that while his life wasn't exactly great, he still doesn't know how better or worse the conditions of the other peasants were compared to him, and that because of it, he should get closer to them, to guarantee a better future for Granvalle.
And that is one of the many reasons why despite its little flaws, Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War is my favourite game of all-time.
If she does exist, may Naga herself bless this grand jewelry for eternity.

  • @Henderson711

Think of how hard Seliph's life had been to this point. Sigurd's message is still don't forget about the people that have suffered as well. Absolute badass.

Sigurd always does what is right. Even when it cost him his love and his life. He still did what was right. That is justice. That is what it means to be a crusader. That is what founded my country and why even despite it's problems today it remains the greatest on this planet. When Americans grow up and realize that this is our core tenet they will finally see the golden times they desire so badly.

That's the best part of the whole game because Sigurd is just speaking the truth in a few lines in that moment. I won't spoil it but i'm convinced that it's the way to have peace in Jugdral but also in our own world in these sad times.

Tbh most conflicts throughout history have happened because we never get to see the other side. If people were so open to new ideas, understanding people's sorrow and suffering, it could bring world peace. Instead we have a world full of corrupt bureaucrats that just want to stuff in most for themselves.

@@chillstoneblakeblast3172 The problem isn't corrupt bureaucrats it's the useful idiots who bend over backwards for them without even thinking critically for a single moment because the corrupt will tell them what they want to hear. Naïveté is the problem. Every person has the capacity to practice evil, it's our peers that stop us whether through force of arms, wise words or both.

At first you might find Sigurd’s words kinda over heroic and unreal, but when you really think about it, for what it actually conveys through the message he tries to teach his own son, it’s extremely powerful and tearful. Also this is the best theme.

I've always thought that, in a possible Genealogy remake, this song would be the main theme of the remake, with the voice actors of Sigurd and Deirdre singing to their children ... AAAAAH I imagine it and it would be very beautiful
