    We all know he's a great passing and ball-handling "big man", but one of the most impressive and probably slept-on things about Chris Webber is that he was a great rebounder in his prime (lead the league in '99) despite being utilized in a "stretch 4" role that meant he often didn't spend as much time in the post as a more traditional power forward i.e Malone, Duncan etc.

      Considering that what CWeb did in those trials about the scandal that wiped out most of Michigan's college basketball history, Jalen Rose will hold Webber accountable for his sins until he publicaly apologizes. But on the other hand Webber thinks that all this made him the villain (amplified in the ESPN 30:30 documentary) and continues to claim "innocence" on the issue. Since the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame also takes into account college accomplishments (even though it's hard for those who claim that it's only for NBA results) and Webber's college career is de jure nonexistent in the books and the fact he hadn't won anything (not even DPoY, MVP, MIP, SMoY) I don't think he'll be in the HoF anytime soon. Ben Wallace has better chance although he may have a roadblock as well - in his case the Malice at the Palace.

      you know, I never appreciated him as the focal point being an unconventional low post distributor. In SAC, he was more of what I saw of my envisioning his career to be coming out of UM, a steamboat with turn on dime wheels whose game was more Karl Malone than Tim Duncan, is that a good comparison? In SAC, we really saw that power game that was too much to contain for most oppositions while in WAS, he didn't show THAT impact that he could be in GS. One of the biggest what ifs I regretted is fielding a Dubs team of contented players in Spree and Tim Hardaway with a steady Chris Mullin waiting back for the green light to bomb away. I always wondered why they didn't just get Mutumbo instead of Billy Owens. It wasn't like they didn't already know they had a concerning hole at the 5 spot as of 1991. They'd be contenders with that team alone, never mind adding CWebb to that talent.

    C-Webb is extremely underrated. The 2002 Kings should have made the Finals. They'd have won the Nets so a 1 ring & Finals MVP would have been added to his resume which would strengthen his HOF case. He was a top 10 player from like 1999-2003. He had to face up against all time great PF's in their absolute prime (Duncan, Dirk & KG).

      Austen Hernandez Nah I really don’t like Dirk. I’ve been a lamers fan for over 3 decades. I don’t like Dirk but I respect him. I don’t like Webber. I respect him but I Don’t think he was as good as Dirk. He was a good player at one time but struggled with injuries, consistency and unfortunately was never the same after his knee injury with the Kings. I think he was a better Power Foward than Tim Duncan as Dumcan was really a center and was always listed as a center officially by San Antonio, and Pop said he was a center even after the so called “Tim Duncan” Rule was enacted for all star game. HOF is a stretch for Webber though. Basketball hall of fame is for all Basketball International, high school and college. Weber has no college
      Career because of his own actions. It literally doesn’t exist. It was erased. He was good but not HOF worthy without it. Someone Like Luka will already have a Hall
      Of fame Career after this year with a huge body of work beyond his Pro NBA career. Pau is a first Ballot Hall of Farmer for sure. Anthony Davis Would already be the best Power Foward ever if he retired today. Webber would be great in this era but we are talking about his career not hypotheticals.
      He had to face Duncan Dirk and KG and he didn’t do well against them.
      He wasn’t as good as Shawn Kemp.

    • @TheGrindcorps
      @TheGrindcorps 5 лет назад

      Austen Hernandez I didn’t say Dirk was a top 5 of anything all time. I said he had a better and more impactful longer career than Webber. Dirk was Primarily a PF. His first two years if you remember the NBA was quite different and his youth and length and shooting were an asset but he was thin. He slotted in as a sort of combo forward well think Durant but obviously not exactly same skill set but a good perimeter player and scorer for his size he played 5 in that he was immobile, could stretch the floor and the center position was weak for a whole so they did that to hide him on defense so he didn’t get run off the floor. Duncan actually was a center. The spurs frequently started two Centers During Duncans Career. He was a very skilled center who could do a lot but he was always a center. A center in college, Drafted at center, center on depth chart, center according to Pop. He’s a center. Just more skilled than most in the past. 2 centers is not uncommon Like Hakeem playing alongside Center Ralph Samson in Houston...
      Weber always got Shat on in the Playoffs. Stop man. Obviously a championship is a team achievement not an accomplishment the “best player” or star Carries a team to no matter how good they are so I don’t Hold that against Webber because he could have been on a number of teams and probably won a Championship at various points in his career. He was not but that doesn’t make him less of a player. He was very good. Just a little overhyped recently. Also people never stop with the game rigging thing. I remember watching all their playoff runs with my friends who were older die hard Kings fans. If you want me to he frank, it was painful watching the refs like many games now but there were tons of Horrible calls on both ends going both ways that ruined their several series against the lakers including 2002z. I can see why kings fans would be upset but if the Kings had one it would seem equally rigged and the Lakers got tons of poor calls the other way ad well. The refs were horrible period weather the NBA wanted one or another team to win. Shaq got in foul trouble because of horrible calls against him. Shaq got the kings in foul trouble because of horrible calls. There were tons of missed make up calls going both ways that were painful to see. Webber and Kings Lost in 2002 mainly because there was no answer for Shaq even without shitty reffing, he was shooting well from the line for him and he was always a good passer out of double teams.

    Chris Webber should definitely be in the H.O.F., he did a lot in the NBA, a 1# over all draft pick, a 6'11 PF ...who had handle, great footwork, solid jumpshot, and was dominant in the paint, and was a franchise player on two different teams, he made the Kings a contender over night, always got robbed bigtime in the playoffs esp against LA,' ill say this when Tracy McGrady when in the Hall' as a first ballot, I was LMAO!! I couldn't believe it! im like what did he do? he never took or lead any team his whole career past the 1st rd of any playoff series! he just had dunk highlights! and???? nothing!! he went in first ballot, that was disrespectful to so many players before him who well deserve to be in, C-Webb at that time revolutionize the PF position, they way he would post up in the paint, one glance at the PG, then spin off his defender catch the ball with one hand mid air and slam it down, Classic! extremely a high talent in his era, peace to C-Webb and the Fab Five,' Legendary!!

    Damn I remember how excited I was when the Sixers traded for CWebb.. the kings were my second favorite team but I'm a Sixers fan before all else and I thought with him, iggy, AI a young Korver and a mediocre center (which did look good on paper) would at least contend... but cwebb played like trash. It was clear that knee injury took away all of his speed, power and athleticism. He settled for 20 foot mid range jumpers all day and ended up leaving the team before fan appreciation night at the end of the season. Dude was so good before the injury.

That Hughes had a single standout season and also lost in the first round? What exactly happened that I'm missing lmao? I never said AI wasn't hard to build around or that his game wasn't exactly the epitome of winning basketball.... but at the same time his second best players were either straight shit... with AI before peaking or with AI after peaking. He didnt have a second all star level player until he already left the Sixers. His game being tough to build around doesn't change the fact that the front office still never really put together a team that had enough talent to see if they coukd build around him in different ways. Yeah yr right they would of been contenders...like yrself..bruh!..stars like Iverson usually dont win championships cleans up on individual awards and gets blackballed away from more than a few bc of his persona and makes sure he always gets his.and the year they lost in the finals was a shock to everybody that they were even there ..and I credit the coaching staff for catching lightning in a bottle to somewhat tame ai get him to buy in for a whole year and thinking they got away with covering for him and stuff like that without the other players not knowing so theres the respect factor leaders need..especially with yr teammates..but after that the Sixers could of gotten anybody and they were never going back to the finals with ai..and yes front office does suck but did they know nobody could play with ai and benefit the team a little better for the future financially...im asking idk ...you seem to know more than them and in all honesty in my opinion the Sixers picking up some of the big name guys in the AI era was their biggest mistakes..and if I'm not mistaken more than a few established themselves somewhere else and just robbed the sixers..ski mask and all ..especially after getting banged up a little on the court and a true taste of AI they were like fuck it..I'm getting my guaranteed...and the year they went to the finals is probably one of the only times I actually have to credit the coaching staff and front office as much if not more than the players...but I love yr enthusiasm and ambition but bottomline they were never gonna be contenders with probably my all time favorite philly..I saw schmitty and dr j as a youngen but dont really remember barkley.moses...steve carlton...and favorite eagle I ever saw is tough...I'll tell you what young buck if u never seen randall Cunningham play live ...dude was sick!...and was fresh to the new style a pioneer which related to my generation better..are u even a true philly fan?...where do the kings come in as yr second..yr bf live out there?...btw they're never doing dick with Embiid and Simmons either..and I said Embiid was done over 2 years ago and hiding injuries and needs more time bc of his frame to recover but never did or does....so dont get all crazy about them either

The school yard game with discipline. He's a bad dude but politics the scourge of all the poor young men that ever played that game. Is willing to forgo all his great college achievements and hamper somewhat his Hall of Fame entrance. Instead of restructuring the system and putting a little money in these young people's pockets that are making them so much money. Then they wouldn't have to go to any outside sources to help sustain themselves during their college careers.
