    Clearly, Slater’s work ethic is a reflection of his father’s practice, wisdom, and transparency. The family is into steel construction, yet, Slater objectively discussed the pros and cons of steel. If ever Scottie, Sevi, and/or thirdy would be an engineer someday, magiging maayos siya/silang engineer!

    I remember the RC and Steel topic when I was reviewing pa in Cebu. The topic was basically a cracking moment where in the instructor was talking a lot of the equivalent strength of steel in a concrete dimension. That a small steel when converted into a concrete it is quite bigger when it comes to strength. But when concrete is converted in steel it is quite small when talking about strength.

    Agree!!!

    Hi Slater As New Zealand Builder (retired) I used 3 materials Timber Steel Concrete.
    General use of steel factory houses timber and concrete
    Our Cebu house is Concrete and steel. However in Cebu Concrete is definitely the preferred material.
    But I love steel fast to build with . When it comes to steel Filippo welders believe a tack is a weld however I would use more bolts . The other thing I noticed on our subdivision the use of to smaller steel far to ligh for the loadings 😊

    • @thechriswhewell
      @thechriswhewell 4 месяца назад

      I'm considering Light Steel Framing for our forthcoming house in Bohol because the walls can be insulated, whereas concrete has a huge thermal mass to dissipate through the night. I'm also going to build Australian style, with a 4m wide verandah all the way around, and a roof thickness of 450mm, stuffed full of rockwool insulation and topped with solar panels. Underneath, to help with the sloping lot, there will be a concrete 'box' beneath the main living rooms - something that avoids those rooms being in direct contact with the hot earth below. I'm hoping to minimise the need for aircon.
      What do you think of that? Is there any other way you would consider building such a structure? Obviously timber is out in the Philippines because of the termites, and CHB are next to useless, particularly if made on site. But I would be interested in knowing what you think.

    • @graemescebuphilippines363
      @graemescebuphilippines363 4 месяца назад

      @thechriswhewell Hi I do like the concrete as the main frame rather than steel to the fact earthquake and typhoon plus steel has the corrosion aspects as well. Definitely roof truss needs to be steel. I do like Rockwool insulation. When it comes to the walls AAC blocks seems to be a trend.
      For me hollow blocks seems be quite good as they add 30 or 40mm plaster inside and out with concrete in fill giving good insulation.
      The big problem is windows and ranchsider single glass and low quality. Bohol is loverly location but limited suppliers .
      Compared to Australian electric standards Philippines is way behind and for me I prefer RCD with earth ground and I hate the fact that no switch to power outlet.
      Definitely include surge protection.
      With solar I would still have aircons during the day free.
      Good luck with your build

    For what I’ve noticed, steel and precast concrete combination is the more efficient solution for building and home construction in the Philippines, it’s typhoon, earthquake, termite and fire proof. It’s what mega factories in the west are made of. If we could only have more suppliers in this industry that could offer more affordable prices, this could become a commonplace structures in PI.
