The awkward gauge placement actually makes sense in a rally car. Don't need to look at the speed, because there aren't speed limits in rally and the stage layout determines how fast you can go. Don't need to look at the tach, because you can hear and feel the revs. But if the oil pressure drops or the temperature shoots up, you have to stop immediately so you can save the car and possibly avoid a massive crash into the trees. Pedals being over to the right is probably because the car wasn't meant to have road seats, either; a rollcage would push the seat placement to the right just a bit and a racing seat doesn't anchor the same way anyways.
Gordon Murray, talking about race car design once used the phrase "the space where the man goes" - It was a LONG way down the list of design priorities 🙂

I do wholeheartedly agree with Jeremy and Richard on this one. This car is far from perfect, but the Stratos is one of the greatest cars ever made. It has the X factor to it that makes you feel alive when you look at it and when you drive it
The engineer who designed it had in mind the phylosophy of building cars where every single piece has a porpuse to achieve the main goal: win races. Enzo Ferrari said that the ugliest car in the world becomes the pretiest after winning races, and one of his favourit engineers was the one who designed the Stratos.

Did anyone else hear roundabout by yes
Indeed, Why'd they use that song?
lancia stratos and yes- roundabout, favorite video ever
Between Japan and Europe there's so many amazing cars that the states missed out on. That damn 25 year law needs to go away.
Well, then just revolution up. It would be time at last..
@@jannejohansson3383 You're not wrong. The tree is mighty thirsty.
Blame the Germans for it, BMW and Mercedes Benz of America got assmad over the fact people bought the leaded fuel versions of their high performance cars and were crying about their loss of sales to the federal court.
@@LPAGAN401 Naw I blame the domestic companies for lobbying the government. That's the real reason that law exists.
And there is many amazing 25y old cars so.. In American and other place too.
Simply stunning car.
JoJo references... it's a gift that keeps on giving.
Please stay quiet. No one asked.
