Pisces is really underrated IMO for how complicated it is, musically, it goes through three different time signatures, it starts with 7/4, then switches to 3/4, then the chorus is 4/4, then that repeats, and then the entire ending is 3/4.
Everyone is so caught off-guard by the screaming that that's what they focus on, but musically the rest of the track is really interesting too.

I've been a huge Jinjer fan for over 7 years and this is blowing me away. It's definitely new and different from previous albums. A lot more fast-paced and unrelenting energy that reminds me more of their earlier stuff. Oddly enough, everyone is pretty blown away about Tatiana's vocals in this one because she's doing wayyyy more singing in this than she normally does. This was like 75/25 singing over growls but most Jinjer songs, especially the last album it was the complete opposite.
I HIGHLY recommend checking out the small documentary/live studio performance that came out about a month ago called Jinjer From Nothing by Audiotree. 3 really solid songs live from their last album and it gives a lot of insight how they write their music... Spoiler alert, the drummer Vlad is a classical pianist, guitarist, and... occasionally dabbles in drums lol. He has composed probably 85% of Jinjer's songs by himself over the last 4 albums. And yes, you caught on quickly about the lack of chrous and traditional song structure. That's one of the great things about Jinjer, every song is a new journey and feels like a classical composition. You never know where it's going to take you. Enjoy your journey with this band, there's a lot to cover! 🤘

I second that emotion! The live in studio performances in that excellent From Nothing video are way more than solid for me. They're fire. Especially Wallflower. That may be the definitive performance of that song for me. I noticed there are individual song outtakes from the longform video now. Might be a good dual reaction video: Wallflower OMV and live in studio. Though you definitely need to watch the entire From Nothing. It's great.

Agreed. And yet, Someone's Daughter is a good place to go after Pisces. Somewhat similar song structure (though NO CHORUS and so no back and forth). It's really more like Vortex, which has no verse or chorus, no repeated parts at all, just an evolution of interlocked parts. A building flow. Quite classical in composition.
We're gonna have to work Daughter into our recommendation rotation😂. Where does it fit? Personally it's one of my favorite songs, right there with Vortex and I Speak Astronomy.

🔥Welcome to Jinjer, Tony! I just found your channel, saw your two Jinjer reactions and subbed, great reactions! I love hearing musicians first discovering Jinjer! Thank you for bringing the fantastic genre twisting music of Jinjer to more people! I love their energy, how tight they are, how down to earth they are, the heaviness mixed with complexity and groove, beautiful singing and growling and especially Tatiana's lyrics!
The first time I heard Pisces in 2019, I hadn't liked any metal with growling and it took me a few listens to start liking it, but now Tatiana is my favorite vocalist and Jinjer my favorite band (Pisces has been my wake up alarm for a few years and I still love it more every time I hear it, snooze is a thing of the past).
TLDR: skip to the last paragraph 😂
Sorry for the long comment, I just love Jinjer too much and love seeing people discover (and usually fall in love with) them and each of their songs!
My three favorite comments about Jinjer that I've seen, "terrifying levels of talent", "I hate it when a Jinjer song ends", and a mother quoting her four year old wanting to see the "lion lady" again 🤣
All four current members of Jinjer have essentially no formal musical training except Vlad the drummer who studied classical piano. For most of their songs, the three guys write most of the instrument music, then Tatiana writes most of the lyrics and melodies (she gets tons of well deserved credit for her vocal and stage performance abilities, but maybe not quite enough for her lyrical and musical composition abilities). Roman the guitarist has written a lot of the instrument music in the past, so he's a huge part of the beautiful sound of Jinjer, but Vlad the drummer (who also plays guitar and classical piano, but so far not in most Jinjer songs - I think he played piano in lainnereP) has been writing more of it and wrote nine of the eleven songs for the last album Wallflowers (next album is done recording, this is the first single with the rest expected soon). Eugene composes some - he wrote the instrument music for one song on Wallflowers and a few songs on other albums, and I know that apart from his amazing work on the bass, he adds riffs and has written lyrics for a few Jinjer songs.
Jinjer has been a tour-heavy band, touring almost nonstop from 2013 to 2020 and much of the time since then (with interruptions by covid and the US backed coup/proxy war), hard work that has made them fantastic live performers. The band (all members have been Ukrainian, with Russian their first language) started in eastern Ukraine (Donetsk) in 2008 as a group of three (then five) with none of the current members (they consider the official start of the band when Tatiana replaced the male vocalist and Roman joined as lead guitar 2009/2010), Vlad is the fifth drummer (joined in 2016) and it's been a group of four since 2015 (though they consider their road sound engineer Sasha to be a fifth member). I think they're still friends with all the former members and you can see their former guitarist turned actor, Dmitry Oksen, in older videos on guitar and a more recent video (Disclosure) playing an interrogator.
One of the things I love most about Jinjer is the messages in Tatiana's lyrics and the way she combines growling and beautiful singing with Jinjer's fantastic instrumentals to be so powerful for expressing the anger and pain in those messages: the anti-war message in Home Back, the anti-greed in On The Top, Mediator and No Hoard Of Value (also the horror of the coal mining industry in their home Ukraine), the protest song Who Is Gonna Be The One, the anti-fascism of Sit Stay Roll Over, the anger at people being narrow minded in Teacher Teacher and Judgment & Punishment, the struggles with mental health in Pit Of Consciousness, Vortex, Wallflower and Perennial, the giving voice to mother nature angry at humanity for letting capitalism destroy her in a bunch of songs like Ape, The Prophecy, Cloud Factory, Noah, Outlander and Bad Water. Other favorites are I Speak Astronomy, Retrospection, Words of Wisdom, Just Another, Captain Clock, Scissors, Exposed As A Liar, I Want It I'll Get It, A Plus Or A Minus, Dip A Sail, When Two Empires Collide, lainnereP, Prologue and Beggar's Dance (those last two are short album bookends that could do well together in one reaction if you're so inclined).
I haven't found a Jinjer song I don't love, so I think you can't go wrong if you choose any of them, but a few good choices might be Perennial (official and/or live at Wacken 2019, both are must-see), Teacher Teacher (official is the studio audio with some great footage from several shows), Judgement & Punishment (official and/or Tatiana's one take performance, again both must-see), Pit of Consciousness (official and/or live in Kiev/Kyiv, a third where both are absolutely must-see) or the heartwrenching plea against war in Home Back (official video).
Thank you, Tony! I know you'll keep trying out more Jinjer songs, enjoy! ❤🖤🤘

Pisces was a song that was already part of the band's catalog when Vlad (the drummer) joined, he just gave it his interpretation, while the biggest portion of this last album (and many of the songs from the last 3 releases) was (were) composed by him. As you progress in your Jinjer "rabbit hole" you'll notice the change in the songs' structure and arrangements in the Vlad era, compared to the pre-Vlad era.

Ah dude, I'm new to your channel, but you get an instant sub. You're an excellent analyst. I predict you're gonna love this band.
That elusive element you're referring to may be precision. They're telepathically tight, through all the rollercoaster twists and turns. It might be passion. Every note drips with tone and intention. When they go to that staccato crunch in the second half of the verse, Eugene's bass tone just snarls in the spaces. They get the sickest tones.
Jinjer is my favorite band since Rush retired. For me they embody many of the same qualities that made me go see Rush 36x in concert. Peak musicianship--on the level of Rush or, dare I say it, even higher--tightness, cohesion, passion, integrity, energy, complexity, meaningful lyrics, the whole package. Even the friendship and mutual respect that's so rare. They're the real deal. I've been playing bass 45+ years, and Eugene's bass parts are more challenging than Geddy's. Considerably. Yet they never sound 'technical just to be technical.' It's all in ultimate service of the song. The song is king of everything. That's a common thread.
I can see you're a guitarist. I recommend you check out the guitar and bass playthrough videos--all of them. The guitar will blow your mind. Bass too. Check out the drum playthrough vids while you're at it. Vlad is on another level than most drummers. This guy is different.
Tatiana grabs you with that shocking voice. But the elephant in the room is the band. They're the sickest, tightest, most cohesive well-oiled machine in metal. They're even better live. Tatiana is an epic front person, on par with the best I've seen, and I've seen many of the best.
I hope you bring us many more Jinjer reactions. Their catalog is eminently worthy. Consistently top tier compositions and musicianship. Reliably awesome songs that keep you guessing as they jump from genre to genre. I think you're gonna like the journey.
BTW, they're touring now, and getting ready to come to the US next month, headlining a tour with Hanabie and Born of Osiris. You don't want to miss it. Grab a ticket and thank me later.
I think you're a likely recruit to the Jinjer Army. Welcome! \m/

One thing you will notice with Jinjer is that there are no guitar solos and that you might not miss them when listing to them. Nothing wrong with guitar solos obviously but especially when Jinjer went from two guitars down to one shortly before they were signed to Napalm the focus of the band has been to be a tight unit almost as if it was a single person playing a multifaceted instrument.
Instead of instruments like the bass filling only the traditional role of a bass guitar it sometimes is the lead or at least a melody instrument along with the guitar. Eugene (their bass player) will tap, pluck, slap and do chords all to that end. Add to that the way Jinjer tends to wear their varied influences (bands and other genres) on their sleeves and you get some pretty unique music that you can't really pin down to a genre. As someone who played a lot of different music during my music career I think that is one of the things that attracts me to this band.

Problem with Jinjer: They use music patterns but only to destroy them expertly as they want and like it. So looking for a chorus... 🤣🤣🤣
Every song form Jinjer is a rollercoaster, only with a rollercoaster you know where you end up..
Thing is you can`t really go wrong with them;: People wiser than me have stated (independently!) that Jinjer is incapable of writing a bad song. And as they are all good musicians, well.
    Some recommendations anyway:
studio versions: "Teacher, teacher" one of their best
"I speak astronomy" Tatianas only love song (well, kind of)
"Sit, stay, roll over" for the really hard stuff
"Just another" if you`r really down that one will lift you up!
and of course "Home Back" THE perfect anti-war song!
"Ape" and "The prophecy" kind of belong together, Mother Nature getting mad and mader
"Vortex" the best example for destroying a song in the most exquisite way
"Wallflower", "Mediator" and "Disclosure!" and "Call me a symbol" from their last album because the pictures add so nicely
"Exposed as a liar" one of the earliest song with still a second guitar and a different drummer
lyric videos: "No hoard of value" about coditions of the miners in the Dombass region
"Plus and minus" also earlier stuff
live versions: "On the top" and "Pit of consciousness", both from Kiev
"Perennial" from Wacken, shows Tati`s abilities
"Judgment and punishment" vocal one take, shows even more of Tati`s talent!
Ah and of course: "Who`s gonna be the one", how could I ever forget THAT one?!
Well, I could go on, you`re the one to give it a try!
