Japan won 4 world titles this year This year: Japan beat US in the Women's Softball finals Japan beat US in the Women's Baseball finals Japan beat Puerto Rico in the U-15 Boys Baseball finals Japan beat Puerto Rico in the U-23 Boys Baseball finals Japan was unstoppable this year in the WBSC
Some of the points could have been explored deeper - like the contract systems in place. Players in Japan have to have an insane amount of service time before being granted FA status. And some of the top NPB teams who make a ton of money being competitive in their markets do not see posting their players as being profitable - so they never post them. By time some of these players are eligible, they are 28-30, and often see as staying in NPB as better for securing their financial future - as jumping over to MLB that late is risky. Jumping from any league takes adjustments and success is not guaranteed where as being younger would make adjusting easier as there is less pressure to perform 'now'. For some players, they also feel like they don't have anything to 'gain' by jumping over. A lot of the MLB-capable players feel like they can get paid more than well enough in NPB (also should note NPB's minimum wage is also higher than MLB's), and would rather stay in Japan - close to family, friends, and a culture they prefer. Of course, the top-tier talent can and usually will get paid more in MLB. But again, the posting system is still a barrier - especially with how it works now - with teams only getting a small percentage of the fee. There are a couple of other contributing factors, but as long as all these points remain true in some parts, don't expect that much more Japanese players in MLB. And honestly, a stronger NPB (and other leagues for that matter) would be good for baseball. MLB's near economic monopoly in baseball doesn't help the sport - it only helps MLB.
Yeah the reason there are so few Japanese players in MLB is that so many of them make a living in NPB, which is also a very competitive league. It's not that Japanese players somehow "can't cut it" in the majors lol.
I told my wife last month that we will be going to Japan to watch baseball. My family loves baseball. We are originally from Mexico and family legend holds that when my father was choosing a country to immigrate to 40 years ago he turned down Canada due to America being the birthplace of baseball. I have watched baseball games when I was stationed in Korea (yes, I know) for a year and the atmosphere and enthusiasm made me feel right at home. I would love to tour a couple of stadiums and see some games in Japan.
Japan not being the best at soccer doesn’t make them bad, if you know anything about soccer, you know Japanese players are all over Europe. They’re entire national team is based in europe.
Still have not won a Mens World Cup. The ultimate accomplishment in Mens Soccer. Not random European country leagues. FIFA Mens World Cup wins always come from Latin America or Europe. At least with Baseball Asia actually defeats the world
@ you have to win the world Cup to not be bad? Do you even have any idea how many countries have actually won the World Cup? Nobody said Japan was number one in the world level. And they aren’t in “random European leagues”, most in the national team are in the top 5 leagues, those out are still in historical big clubs
It's such a strange feeling when someone you watch for interest #1 comes out of nowhere to talk about interest #2. I did not have the 11:57 Dustin Ackley jumpscare on today's bingo card
12:35 There is a big story with Dominican Republic baseball development, MLB teams essentially privatize cities in the country, funding baseball development and such, in order to help get more future prospects, the VOX video called "Why so many baseball players are Dominican" was really interesting and well done about the topic. Thats one of the other reasons there are so many more players from there. Also, the job market in these places isn't the best, so baseball is essentially their only way out of poverty.
One of the main reasons that there are much less Japanese players in the MLB than Latin players is because Japan is a first world country and many NPB players would prefer to stay in Japan and make a decent living there.
I came here after the South Korea video man I loved it the editing to the picking of background music but it seem after the word history the audio just drops in quality idk if it is a microphone thing or editing thing
Dodgers management is dancing in joy knowing that they managed to get Ohtani relatively cheap. This guy went for 50/50 with an injury and no pitching lmao
Japan’s soccer team is amongst the world best though? What do you mean not good? The players are playing in the top european leagues, Japan’s domestic leagues are amongst asia’s best even!
Still will never win a world cup. The ultimate accomplishment in Soccer is a world cup. Not playing in some random European country league. Europe and Latin America always win the World Cup. At least with Baseball, Asia can defeat the world
Many of similar videos are highly inaccurate and poorly researched Being a big fan of npb and being someone who follows koshien every year, i found many videos to be horrible But i cannot say that about this one, its accurate, well researched and well articulated
Not every high school in Japan is invited to Koshien. Japan Men FIFA does about the same as the US. Overall, US women do better than Japanese women, however Japan women have won the World Cup in the past and usually do quite well. Just remember that there’s not a big incentive for Japanese players to move to the US
The Koshien is like if all the state champions from 1A to 7A have a tournament in which the winner gets invited to a national tournament as representatives from each state.
Good video, but Japan’s major league (NPB) offers enough money for players to make a good living without seeking contracts from the United States. It’s regarded as the second-best major baseball league in the world. Countless foreign players of American and Cuban descent have tried and failed to play in the NPB because of the level of competition.
East and Southeast Asia likely won't surpass Europe and Latin America in Soccer. Asia won't surpass the Americans in Basketball too. But Japan actually defeated the Americans in Baseball and became World Champions. Team Japan made Asia proud!
Anyway The Yokohama DeNA Baystars are having the biggest Cinderella run in Japan Series From having the worst %pct among the qualified teams And playing Hashin , Yomuiri in their homes and winning And now having a 3-2 lead against Fukouka after trailing 0-2 This is one of the craziest run
Unfortunately from the first few minutes I could tell how uninformed you are about sports, so won’t be watching the rest. Let me know if the video was worth it though!

Did I just watch a video about a sport I don’t even know the rules of? And enjoyed it?

Good video otherwise I guess but I have a big problem with the statement "Japan sucked because they didn't have players in the MLB"
Yeah the reason there are so few Japanese players in MLB is that so many of them make a living in NPB, which is also a very competitive league. It's not that Japanese players somehow "can't cut it" in the majors lol.
Hope you become super popular, this was awesome you’re so underrated

Interesting timing to upload this after the Dodgers won the world series.

video so good he had to upload it twice
This guy really said Japan haven’t been good at baseball until now…? And bad at most other sports? Really?
Great video!

Fantastiskt video helt otroligt bra min broder kämpa på, kärlek från Sverige 🇸🇪 15:04
It would've been so fucking cool if WWII ended by Babe Ruth playing baseball in Japan.
