"nothing better than being in the mountains on your own" Couldn't agree more
That was a gorgeous shot! The light and simple composition were beautiful!
Cheers Mads
lol, pajama comment cracked me up. Didn't expect that. Love your stuff Nigel. Just noticing this is three years old and just seeing it for the first time. I'm under a year into my photographic journey. My fave post of yours is you sending your images to other experienced photographers for feedback. I really appreciated someone of your calibre putting themselves out there. Very humbling.
Thank you !

I watched this twice. What is the trick? I seemed to have missed it. Nice photos!
Around ensuring that you look through screen and move around before placing tripod...
I agree. I guess Nigel needs to smack me in the head and say, “I am about to tell you a simple trick that will improve your wide-angle landscapes.“ And then he needs to say, “remember, that was a simple trick that will improve your images.“ Thank you, Nigel.
@@NigelDanson But doesn't that apply regardless of the lens you are using?
Thanks for asking. I also thought I missed it..
I thought the trick was going to be "forget the hat, and bounce the light off your head", but then he put the hat back on...
Epic light on a morning hike; in a location that stills the heart - such beauty. Thank you for bringing us along and showing us, you, making the best of such a beautiful landscape Nigel.
I've always wondered about the whole "pretend to leave the camera behind" thing. Especially while hiking up rugged terrain.... That's true dedication!
The first morning shot that you showed took my breath away! Quite honestly, the scene brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for not just teaching us about photography, but also about what makes photography worthwhile. Love it!
I'm with you - nothing better than being in the mountains on your own. And what fabulous countryside! Cheers from DownUnder.
Nigel I like your videos about a 1/3 of the way through cause they're so consistently great
Another fantastic video, you make blogging look easy with lots of interesting content and your images are just inspiring. Thanks for sharing
Brilliant scenery Nigel makes me homesick for Scotland and the Lake District.
Finding your channel is the best part of 2020 for myself. You're a gem. Looking forward to more and more and more and more. Cheers
Thanks so much!
@@NigelDanson Just had a fresh rain here in south Texas (US) and am newly excited to shoot some textures and depths. Cheers again, mate!
Hi Nigel, I realize it's almost two years since you produced this video on wide angle lens photography. I really appreciate your efforts and information. You have lots of terrific points and examples. You made me think about how to look at my wide angle lens shots, what perspectives to look at and how to set up the tripod and the rest of the settings for a good photo. I'll watch this at least one more time. Thanks again. 😎 ⭐ 👌 😍
One thing you forgot to point out in your safety talk, you're wearing a bright coloured jacket.
I see so many people hiking in dark blues and greens that I worry that they would be hard to spot if they needed rescue.
I think the wide angle trick here is being there. Thanks for great scenes.
Just wanted to say thanks for all of the work you post here. It has been extremely helpful. I have been a long time watcher, first time commenter. You live the life I wish I could!
Thanks so much!
The part of this which I found most interesting and helpful was the part where the less good images of the beck were shown with on screen composition notes, and then directly compared to the better composition shots. Thanks for that.
Great video as always Nigel, love the thought process that goes into your shots. Learning lots, thank you
I always wonder about you landscape photographers traveling solo in these remote locations and your safety precautions. So thanks for that tidbit of info.
I rarely comment on videos but felt I had to after seeing this, my first one of yours. Many of your philosophies (eg foreground interest, composing techniques) are exactly how I look at things. Also the sheer enjoyment of photographing landscapes- being amongst nature, appreciating it and taking it home in beautiful memories- yes there's nothing like it. Great work mate and your own appreciation comes across well- subbed. BTW, Im in Western Australia.
The adult contemporary music in your videos always makes me chuckle
I love your photography so much Nigel, you are a true inspiration
Some of those shots look like scenes out of a fantasy movie. Absolutely amazing!
What a beautiful valley for the photo. The place is stunning. Great work!!! Love it.
Bloody hell Nigel.. You are getting very adventurous Mate... Your poor lonely lil' van will miss you if you keep walking up those hills....Looks like a great scenario for photography ... Great to see you out in the hills showing blokes like me just how to do it.. We don't have the scenery that you have in the UK. But in Australia we have to settle for the Ausssie bush scenes.. Stay safe Nigel... Neville..
Thanks for sharing the landscape Nigel
I was attracted by your headline of "one simple trick" for amazing wide angle photos. After spending 16 minutes on your video, I'm still trying to figure out what that trick was? Was this video mis-titled or something?
I'm slowly going through my "watch later" list and it makes me realize how many landscape photographers use clickbaity titles that are barely discussed in the video. I'm glad I looked at the comment section after a few minutes of watching because I could still not figure out the title of the video. At least now I won't have to go through yet another vlog about tripod, filters, and f-stops...
@ Many RUclips videos have "click baity" titles, but this is one of the most egregious examples. I should've done what you did--read the comments while watching, instead of wasting 16 whole minutes on it.
@@Centauri27 If you're watching solely for one magic trick that will make you a better photographer, then you're doing it wrong. Nigel's videos are full of good information. There's no silver bullet trick to make you better.
@@Wrecksy Nope, not looking for a silver bullet. I watch many photographers across different channels for ideas. Video titles are important to catch your attention. This particular one teased, but did not deliver. If you read the other comments, I'm not the only one who felt this way. However I don't doubt that Nigel's videos have good information!
The vertical shot of the river in the mountain, driving you into the photo, was already cool but the photo that you also printed is really EPIC!
Thanks!
Great video. I have just purchased the Z7 and was looking for photographers who already use it. That last photograph on your calendar was pretty amazing.
The mountain you mentioned when talking about the calendar is Tryfan not Pen Yr Ole Wen and you were near Ffynnon Lloer. Hope this is helpful Nigel. Love the image.
Wow, the way you revealed the light in the valley by the drone .... loved it ...
The light improved drastically once you had your hat back on Nigel. Just saying haha
I like your style of photography, very nice scenes. I like taking landscape photos also. Nice music, looks very beautiful there
Nigel, you're an excellent teacher. Thank you
You capture such amazing shots. So glad you share your process. I've learned so much. Thank you
Yes you got several great shots. Despite the weather, you were able to focus (yourself) and compose shots.
Just gorgeous images. Glad you got our to get them. I enjoy your love for photography and nature!
That is a beautiful image Nigel. Comparrising 3 differend photo’s in one screne is very good!
Brilliant Nigel, absolutely brilliant. What - a - shot. Thank you Sir for working on such a nice channel 🙌
That comment Nigel .. " nothing better than being in the mountains on your own " is 100 % correct . I have done 213 Wainwrights alone and am only taking my wife on the final one to celebrate ( and take photo !!! )
Ha ha
thank you , iv taken photography up again after a few years got myself a 50d , im more interested in typography of Eire , you have helped motivate me alot , great content
if your ever in Dublin , need a local guide id show you a couple of shots you might like .
tks stay safe
Beautiful video- thank you. Learning a great deal from you.
Dear Nigel, thank you for your video with good advice and beautiful pictures. What I absolutely miss in your entire video is "our" four-legged friend.
Love your photography and bacground music. Thankk you for all the great info on photography.
Nigel, your videos made me to visit Scotland ! Had a wonderful trip last year... A mask free trip ! Took some nice videos and photos. Not in par with yours :)
What a wonderful place...
Scotland is an underrated tourist destination... Especially the highlands
I don't think it's underrated by photographers. Scotland looks great whatever the weather, in fact it's possible that you get better photographs in the sort of weather most people think of as 'yuck' than in good weather...and there are not many places you can say that about. :-)
Have seen several of your vlogs, but only just subscribed. Very glad I have now got round to it. I personally got the 'trick' point straight away and sound advice. I use Canon and have just purchased a 17-40mm L lens. I am looking forward to using the widest setting. The morning light was amazing in the last image. Will be interesting to see what post processing you apply as I loved it the way it is. Thanks.
Excellent shots...especially that morning...what a treat! Great video - all the best!
you do some amazing landscapes, time and patience is everything. I want to plan a photography trip to England, there are so many incredible locations. I would like to try somewhere new. I am not one to go to much travelled and photographed areas, looking for something new. thank you very much,
Beautiful transition from the Camper Van back to the landscape shot
Thanks 👍🏼
Hi, Master Nigel Danson. Thanks for always sharing your knowledge.
Incredible location Nigel - so lucky to have access to these places. Thank you for a great video - always something to learn from you!
Made my morning , depressed me a bit because I didn't experience it myself but you shared it so well . Happy for you and one of your best vlogs .
Cheers Nigel. Just put in an order for your calendar. Appreciate your videos. Tips and tricks are sheer quality, but the video editing and mix of content really makes it worthwhile watching.
Watch your videos again and again! There is something special in your videos which calms me down! Love to be out in Nature and charge my battery (Not the one of my camera:-)) Greetings from Berchtesgaden...
Possibly your best video to date, except for your Faroe Islands series, which were stunning, the woodland images were superb, forgive the indulgence but the two images with the rocks in the foreground were my particular favourites, compositionally faultless, Brilliant, regards.
"There is nothing better than being in the mountain on your own" - I could no't agree more :-)
Interesting too to see alternative shots and your own evaluation of them :-)
Now that’s more Nigel Danson of old, in the field slogging to get an image...love it!
Regards
Dazza. 🇬🇧
Just stumbled across your channel. Love your photography and your sheer enthusiasm. Way better than 99% of the YT photo crap out there. I'll be back!
Lot's of tips out there. Enjoy what you're doing, the best one.
Amazing video with a great shot ! Love the light and composition !
genuine excitement always makes me smile ear to ear haha
Nigel, beautiful images with amazing light. Loved this video.
Enjoyed your added comment graphics concerning composition of the shots. Would love to see more of that in the videos in addition to discussions of composition decisions. Might have them last a bit longer on the video. They snapped right by!
Forgetting your hat is like forgetting to pack your camera Nigel :D
In Nigel's defense ... he did have 3 hoods on at the same time!
Jeep hat
Looks cold, great to share the vid, hope all the walking makes you fit, 😉
Fantastic video and work as always Nigel, well done!
I really like how you work with the light
Fantastic and inspiring video once again Nigel.
Beautiful drone work! Amazing location. @10:10 is a portfolio shot! Well done. Really enjoyed this installment. 14 image stack? like a vertical pano?
Print looks fantastic Nigel 👍🏻
"I was going to sleep in this morning till like 8 o clock or something" - here's me getting up at 10am on a sunday and thinking that's an early start to the day.
I feel you! :D
Great video, good to get an insight into your compositional thoughts
What an excellent image in your intro video. What ever lens you are using gave you some awesome separation.
Thanks for the video... Hoping you would explain when to use a wide angle or to make a panorama ?
Always like seeing the notice that another one of your Sunday vlogs has been added Nigel. I am still pretty much on lock down here in the states so I have to live through you and others on youtube while I'm stuck at home. I think you need to put that image you printed in your portfolio my brother, it's fantastic.
Nice video, thanks. Looks like a beautiful area. Supporting the SF Giants in the U.K.? Love it. Baseball is about to finally start here and it’s about damn time.
Totally agree with this, I sometimes even take shots with my mobile before I even get the camera out of the bag. It's a bit like the old film days when you needed to spend more time getting things right. Digital has made us try to do things too quickly.
The light turned out to be fantastic! Great trip and great photographs 👍🏻
Ha had to come back and watch this again..I fell asleep the first time...not because I was board. I have been out chasing Comets, Milky Ways, and sunrises for the past couple of days..fuel cell was low lol. Another great one Nigel, I do love how the two mountains on either side frame this capture well done...hoping for the golden ticket 👍❤️
Oh for some light like that if I can go ahead with my Autumn trip to the Lakes. I've never tried to stitch anything like that number of photos. Must give it a go sometime! Love that big print Nigel.
Is this a music video, a travelogue, or a calendar advertisement? I didn’t really get any photography tips from this video at all.
Nope, seems so many adds in it I feel we were "Tricked " into watching. A bit mean and a tad hungry of you @Nigel...
I've been enjoying your videos Nigel. Great stuff!
Nigel, can you explain the "14 shot stack" you refer to in the video?
Will do
Was trying to work that one out too..thought he said the light was good so was doing it all hand held...Sooo... how can you take 14 hand held shots that will stack..be interested to know..Thanks..
Same.in here....i thought he was saying that is made from 14 photos stiched together...for more rezolution?!? am i wrong?
I'm also interested
That’s a great photo. Def put it in your portfolio.
The secret or trick to great photos is the camper van ! Damn. Here I was focusing on kit.
pre-ordered my calendar and keep my fingers crossed for the gold ticket. I love the camper, considering getting one myself.
Nigel Danson drinking game: drink every time Nigel says 'amazing'. I'm sure we'd all be under the table before the 5 minutes mark :-)
Just jesting. Ama... uh, really great landscape there. Please do keep up your educative yet entertaining videos!
Yeah theres another u tubers every other word is fundamentally ! crazy
You're so generous, thank you...got to subscribe!
Love the fact you went out shooting in your "jamas" and jacket...
Love your video Nigel. I also like the pano you took and i think it should go in your portfolio, as it is a beautiful shot.
I also like your t-shirt :) Classic!
All the best to you.
The print looks more contrasty, especially the dark foreground, and I think it's much better than how you showed it in the video. Great photo!
Great VLOG Nigel. Awesome vistas to.
Super images .... you did threaten to come back and park up here with your campervan when we passed her on your last workshop ..... it was certainly worth it !
A great example of how you don't need to go to the honey pot locations to get great images. Also shows what a difference it makes being in the landscape to be able to react to the weather/light. Thanks for sharing and it would be interesting to see how you end up processing that final image. Thanks for sharing.
That's a pretty honey pot location by most peoples standards.
Great presentation Nigel! Well done. I love seeing the places you go and how you go about your process. I continue to watch you even though I'm not a landscape shooter.
The only feedback I could possibly give is on the music - which for me, takes me right out of it. I think I'd rather listen to your ambient on your camera, especially of the gushing stream. Anyway, that's a minor thing although I admit that music is likely needed for a lot of videos and it's never easy selecting the right jam (plus it's time consuming, most of all!).
Glad to see your corner of the world open too. Here in Mumbai, there are still restrictions due to pandemic. Take care and best wishes for your next outing.
Hello Nigel! You probably won’t see this message, but I am going to try anyway. I really enjoy watching your videos and I find them very helpful. I would love you to talk a bit more about balance in photography, maybe even make a video about it, if possible. Thanks!
seen it and will do
Nigel Danson Thank you so much! You made my day 😊
Amazing images! Especially love the last one, I think it definitely is a portfolio image if you ask me.. Stunning!
I'm watching from Phoenix, Arizona in the 110 degree (F) heat and wishing I was there! Beautiful shots
Hi, I think the final image you printed was amazing! You mentioned that you have 'stacked' the image in order to create a larger more detailed file. Could you elaborate on that a bit please. It would be great if you could do a video on your process, I'm keen to learn. Thanks!
Ah ok, I see you have already done exactly that! Great photos, I am now a subscriber. Thanks!
Absolutely stunning 👍
