I played the game for 6 years, then stopped playing for 2 whole years. As I return to the game, I couldn't agree more with each and every point that you mentioned!
All I needed was was the first 5 seconds, ty and see ya in game XDXD All true, but a heads up for new players if there's any: the base game story 1~80 and the Living World season 2 are the most low paced story content the game has to offer, but if you are into lore there's much to get from there too!
Started playing the game in beta for about 6 months...was not so great back then. Started playing again since December last year and have been playing non-stop since then. It's so much better now
Similar story. Played in beta for 6-ish months (Got bored by the flame and frost release and then got called away for work) left, came back after 2 years, saw lions arch destroyed and have stayed ever since!
@@Jrocks26 it helped and I am +lv 60 now :D is there a difference between accessing the game through steam and the official website? im about to purchase the expansions
I started playing GW2 in vanilla, and stopped playing before getting into PoF content. Coming back after having not played since 2017 has been an absolute blast! I love how ANet has managed to cater to players of all types, as you can play the game as a casual exploration game, you can play as a hard core raider, or even a pvper, and *everyone gets rewarded for it*. I never feel like I'm wasting my time or that I'm being punished for playing the game how I want to, which is huge!!
I played GW2 when it released then switched to FFXIV during beta. I’ve tried playing GW2 a few times since then but I’m so overwhelmed and lost. I feel so underpowered and squishy.
I come from wow 2005/2010, classic & hard core. I would like to try GW2. I have a question, is it possible to leveling and get gear through pvp ? I can enjoy pve aspect of the game after of course. Thank for answering.
Gear yes, you can get a full set of Legendary armor as well as ascended equipment. I have a guide on both actually. You have to level up for WvW. For pvp it sets you to level 80 automatically
As this was not really answered yet.... yes, it is definetly possible to "level" via PvP because you get a lot of level-up-tomes from it. I recommend you playing the first 20 levels at least though as this takes you only like two hours and you will get familiar with the most basic stuff so you are not that lost with what everything is.
Yes you can. Personal advise is to try to level through the first few levels (about 20-30) alone, because the higher you go the higher the XP requirements meaning that all instant level ups you use on higher levels are more valuable than lower levels. The game is gonna teach you some basic things through that as well. BUT, while leveling you will engage with the open world- arguably best PvE done in any MMORPG. So you might end up liking it.
The thing of being fully voice acted surprises me even all this time after. First, because is a game from a medium budget company and basically they have the best voice actors in the market and second, because supposedly isn't an story oriented MMO, but look FF14, they don't have that (actually it's a super mediocre MMO)
I am put off after logging in again and being 2x extension behind, I am very reluctant in spending £43 to get both. Just to see if I want to come back and play
Just wait for them to go on sale. They always go on sale at some point. SotO's story starts decent and has a mid ending, but the real draw is the access to extra weapon proficiencies, and cross-elite spec proficiencies (so you can use weapons that were previously locked behind an elite spec without needing to equip said spec -- even as a level 1 player). Janthir Wilds is pretty good already: the homestead feature is a better, customizable version of the home instance; the new land spear weapons are pretty powerful for most specs; and the Warclaw mount got a boost in PvE with plenty of upgrades, enough to be a good alternative to the standard raptor.
Great video - my only criticism is that you mostly focus on the skyscale for the mounts. To me, it is one of the most boring mounts in the game, and I kinda wish it hadn't become so universally used to get around everywhere. The QoL is amazing, for sure, but the feeling of zooming across maps on the griffon or roller beetle can't be beat. Even some of the more niche mounts like the jackal having access to shortcuts via portals and access to secret areas/jumping puzzles is really cool. But obviously, everyone wants to fly and that's okay :)
This is my opinion of GW2, you may or may not agree with it but I’m only going to use facts of the game as to why I can’t bring myself to play it on a regular basis. 1- like all MMO’s I play, I like to hop from alt to alt and level them all to end game. Problem is, once you start a living world or an expansion you’re basically watching the same movie over and over again. Sitting through countless scenes of, what feels like, endless dialogue and cinematics that are all unskippable. 1st character (fine, cool story bro) 2nd character ( not this again) 3rd character (I’m really not in the mood for this again) 4th character (okay, I’m out). Way too much downtime in endgame listening to dialogue you no longer care about because you’ve heard it a thousand times before and just want to play! 2- GW2 is so convoluted at this point, that nothing is straight forward anymore. Just the currencies alone are a mess. It’s so bad that they introduced a /wiki to the chat channel. That’s not a flex they should be proud of, it’s something that should highlight the fact that things are so confusing and not explained properly that it’s to the point you must leave the game, breaking any immersion you may feel, to look up on wiki what it is you’re supposed to be doing and how you’re supposed to go about doing it. Complexity doesn’t always equal interesting. Sometimes it’s just needless, immersion breaking garbage. All that being said and although l, because of it, GW2 will never be a main game for me, nor will I spend anymore money on it, the combat system is best in class, the music and ambience is amazing and I love the build craft as well. They got so much right but what’s the point of owning a Ferrari if it just doesn’t have the engine?
Both are great games! One cool thing with Guild Wars is its free to play, no subscription fee. So you can play to max level for free. It is also a horizontal progression game so all your progression is the same when you come back, you dont fall behind like other games if you decide to take a break. We are currently taking a break and playing FF14, but anytime we jump back in we are geared and ready to go!
Did they fix dungeons? I haven't played since the middle of Heart of Thorns and it felt like every dungeon boss tactic was 'Pull boss around a corner and stack and spam heals and AOEs'.
Dungeons aren't run as much as they used to be, they made a whole new system called Fractals which are fun quick dungeonsthat are really popular and very profitable
What class/subclass is that blue warrior looking guy at the beginning of the video? Looks like it has a decent mobility and looks fun. I'm thinking of giving this game another chance and i'd like to choose a class but i'm having trouble on deciding which one to play (or, more precisely, I lack information)
You could set it up on steam deck for sure I've played, all big mmos on there, wow, ff14, new world. You just need wifi I use my trucks wifi if im out and about. Gl some of the games like wow was really hard to get going but gw2 is on steam so should work pretty easily

Your commentary on the holy trinity is incorrect, Guild Wars 2 DOES have a holy trinity, even though originally they tried to design it differently, once raids released that changed and they went back on it, while it's true almost all classes have access to different roles through spec and skill choice. A trinity does exist, healers, dps and tanks are a thing in the endgame instanced pve (raids, strikes, fractals etc.) and with the heavy reliance on boons for ALL classes to perform their rotations (it is the standard to benchmark with a boon setup provided by established support builds), your point here is very inaccurate. Regardless, I would recommend the game. You'll get a lot of mileage to money spent (assuming you are buying the expansions). It is great value.
I don't agree that " your character will always be viable " Everything gets locked behind expansions, same with gw1, so if you don't pay 2 win then you will be behind. For those that don't get it, you will be skill/ability blocked instead of gear blocked. Its not bad tho.

Nice, core mesmer is on of my favorite core to play :) Ofc you "can" kill but you are behind on everything, you don't even have access to all stats on gear. Even a mount is plenty of more extra health, you also don't have the same mobility. In a zerg you wont be able to keep up dps, thus gimping your team if you are in a full squad etc etc. Expansion classes just do all the same AND more. Can the game be fun as core? ofc but you are not competitive in a group, if the other players are, they probably don't want you around. @@LuisAlbertoSandovalArevalo
