The pre-searing is the best start to a game ever. Its so immersive and cozy. There are times when i just log on to run around the pre-searing ascalon.

GW2 lost the heart of the original Guild Wars, the developers didn't understand their core concept. GW2 is just another MMO, where Guild Wars is really special. A group of us have just recently gone back to playing - after 12 years absence. I've forgotten everything, and it is such fun to get back into it all again. If there were a remake of the real Guild Wars, I would be there, imagine the game with 2024 graphics and voice acting...

    • @kingprone7846
      @kingprone7846 29 дней назад

i too wish they would have expanded on the concept. the pvp was fine as it was. for pve there should have been tougher dungeons with smaller parties, great loot, loot itself should have had more importance i.e. for certain armour or story unlocks etc. Dungeons should go really deep and getting to the end should feel like an experience. In a way some dungeons already had that - notably the tutorial dungeon which many people never saw the end of. it was just great to explore the world. There should have also been more bonuses for using a smaller than 8 party.

    • @Gyokan7
      @Gyokan7 8 дней назад +2

They understood it though. The goal with GW2 was to make a generic MMO that could implement a cash shop smoothly. It's all about the gems.

OG GW player. Former leader of Mighty Mystics [MM], Level Twenty One [XIV], and Warrior main in Sharks N' Penguins [SnP] GvG guilds. This was the BEST game I ever played. At its prime, GvG battles were INSANE! To this day I haven't found a better PvP game. Miss those days. Made lots of friends.
Sissy Boys, War Machine and The Last Pride were awesome guilds everyone knew about. Wish GW2 had the same PvP but unfortunately it was nothing like GW so the vets all quit GW2 and abandoned GW...😢

I played the game since 2005. I made so many friends that I still play with today. At the same time, I played CS 1.6. A really pleasant mix. My favorite time was the Rift, people rushing all over Tyria. The first obsidian armor...But the best thing about the game were the new, still unknown farming spots. Unfortunately, they were always fixed quickly... but just being one of the first to discover it and getting rich was great. I played it 2 years ago and only this game gives me the mysticism and the feeling of being a child... I miss those times so much. Shit growing up.

Guild Wars 1 and Dragon Age Origins are the reason why I like tactic RPGs, there's just a joy of creating a successful party that overcome a challenge, not to mention the story as another bonus. A thing I think is funny is that your PC in GW1 fits more the "Commander" role than the GW2's PC, by giving your party orders, placing then in tactical places to ambush the npc or get some advantage points, etc... is just funny when you think about. I luv this game ❤️

I played Guild wars 1 first back in high school, like...back in 2008-ish? But I had a hard time sticking with it. After playing guild wars 2 for years I finally went back with a friend I made through it and we played through the Prophecies campaign together. With a greater understanding of the lore and the significance of all these events in 200 years it just stuck with me how much of a gem I had missed out on for the likes of WoW. It was and still is a remarkable game. Everytime I hear a gw1 music track in 2 it makes me pause and just think back.

I was in a group with 5 Dervishes and we got mauled by Bathazar. Eventually we got it, that was such a great moment.

This game scratches that itch when I want to theory craft. GW2 does have some of it, but it's all about tweaking all your traits and gear just to barely make a build work. Cool, but not nearly as fun as mixing and matching proffessions. Combining traits that work with other skills or using weapons that change how your skills interact. That level of freedom and possibilities is unmatched in any game. still my favourite game of all time. just jumped back in for some solid gaming to help weather the stresses in life. hope GW3 integrates elements from GW1 into it

I will tell you why I still play it. It's a solid game that is very well built. The skill builds are tight and they work well. In 2024 you can either play this game solo or with others and the solo play can be a good challenge at parts. for a challenge you can vanquish areas in hard mode which is fun. There are so many different things that are all driven toward game progress. Questing, Missions(sort of like raids in a way), Exploration, skill farming, achieving titles, working on your Hall of Monuments (Trophy hall) This game is excellent. On top of that the two main expansions (Nightfall and Factions) allow you to start in their territories if you would like and you can eventually max out your levels and then head over to another expansion or Prophecies which is the core game. The game is versatile and has many different choices for where you want to go. The game is also pay once play forever. No monthly fees. Additionally, unlike other mmos in towns you can see and team up or trade with other players. Outside of towns you are in your own instance with only your party and when you leave that area everything spawns back when you return there. That being said if you kill something in your instance it remains dead until you leave the area, which is what allows you to be able to completely vanquish areas until they are free of all foes. Grinding for things in the late game pays off. You can find very amazing and unique skills off bosses you kill, You can earn the materials to craft very incredible armor sets which seem to be never ending. You can enhance your armor and weapons to be as tweaked and powerful as possible. You can tame animals, and there is a place where you can store them and switch between them. Essentially you can collect your animals if you are a ranger and store them. I haven't even gotten into the PVP side of things. Some people love PVP I have never been a PVP lover. and that goes for all games, not just this one. Anyway that's why I love GW. GW2 is nothing close to what Guild Wars is. I recommend GW to anyone who has plays GW2 and hasn't tried GW1 yet. Go play it and see for your self. Give it an honest chance and you will grow to love it.

The thing I loved about Guild Wars 1 (and why I just couldn't ever get into Guild Wars 2) is the build variation. The game let's you choose any skills that you want. There is literally no skill in the game that you don't have access to, because you always have a secondary profession.
And I really miss that in GW2. You just equip a weapon and the game chooses 5 of your skills for you.
Guild Wars 1 is very strategic, because you have to be fully aware which one of your skills you'll be using next and in which order, constantly monitoring the field, your energy levels and your skill cooldowns.
But in GW2, you just spam every button because it doesn't really matter. There is no energy - there is only cooldown. So once you've exhausted all of your 10 skills, you switch your weapon, so you get 5 new skills so you can spam them too, then you switch back to your first weapon and spam your original skills again now that the cooldown has worn off.
I'm not saying that GW2 isn't strategic - especially at higher content.
Guild Wars 1 was only truly supported with Expansions for 2 years (Game came out in 2005, final expansion was released in 2007), yet it still feels more complex than GW2 with its 10 years of content drops.
Another thing I dislike about GW2 is the necessity to play with others. If you're playing at 5 in the morning on an empty map and a meta event comes up, you have literally no chance of defeating the boss, since 200 people have to bash on it for 15 minutes straight to get him down.
But you didn't have that in GW1. The game was built so you could play every part of it solo if you wanted to.

The "MMO" thing is pretty funny for GW1, because even Colin said I think last year during their extra life streams, where he always shares these golden stories of the company and GW1/2, that GW1 was never an MMO and was more of a CO-RPG/co-op RPG because it was instanced as well. But during publishing, or whenever in that process, the game got labeled as MMO and even tho they explained it was... not and MMO, the physical copies were already out and "shipped" to retailers and it was easier for them to just say "yeah.. it's an MMO" rather than trying to change it anymore :D Even they could not understand why it was marked as MMO later on, they just went with it.

In the same genre of "Oldschool MMORPG", i'd heavily recommend Dofus, coming from all the way back in 2004, for pretty much the exact same reasons this video has put up for Guild Wars 1: Immense world and lore to discover, adventuring with friends, and overcoming challenges.
Both Guild Wars 1 and Dofus excell at this very thing, with the only major differences being that Dofus is subcription based, and that Dofus is a Turn based Tactical RPG.

I'm still tinkering with skill combinations. Guild Wars is a tactical team game. You can't win a flower pot here by simply running into groups of enemies and hitting them. It's all about using your 8 out of 1,300 skills wisely. Yours and those of your companions.
It's fun to create new builds and team builds.

Epic story arcs. I was never much good at the fighting, but I loved being part of those epic, far reaching stories.

I only played it after playing GW2, I wanted to get the rewards for Hall of the Monuments only... but it was a mindblowing experience, seeing so many features this game already had implemented that were so new to the genre.

I played gw1 for 10 years, then gw2 for 10 years and I still check vlox's falls to try and get in to a soosc group. I was in a guild called okii and we literally did every speed clear in the game and I can say without a doubt it is by far the most fun online game I ever played.

Great game to this day, worth doing for the story alone if you're a GW2 fan. And you can solo just about everything if you're worried about needing other players, and while it still has a player base. Given it's age you don't have that same need to have a party for everything like you did long ago. With hero's filling the role that players would.

Did you ever play DDO (Dungeons & Dragons Online)?
Not a large player base compared to games like WoW, GW, Runescape etc but man.... in its prime.... idk if i played a better game. It's community is incredibly helpful and positive. The character building was epic and the questing/raiding system was the best i have seen.

I would love to go back and finish what I started with guild wars one but the game doesn't give you any direction on what your supposed to do after level 20. I got the expansions and only played them for a week before I gave up. the expansions are even more confusing as to where to go and what to do.

I do miss the game play of GW1. It was much, much more of a sense of achievement to 100% a map in GW1 than it is in GW2... even if I like the different activities in GW2 maps. The scale of Tyria somehow felt bigger in GW1... the journey was just harder.
And building a good team of heroes? So much more fun. I wish they'd retroactively make the iconic Henchmen into Heroes, like Mhenlo and Eve. I'd prefer Mhenlo as my Monk, for instance.
/still using my Black Moa... Pink & Black Moa for the CC team!

The way you could combine the classes, and the unique classes themselves... I loved this game back in the day. Those are also the reason i couldn't get into GW2. Althought they def have some fun mechanics like the skills depending on the equipped items, and changing your loaded weapons on the fly.
But still, the class combinations is a great miss for me. Also there isnt a new version of the Dervish...

I tried it out recently and although it seemed fine, having nobody to level with (since population is so low) made the world feel extremely empty. I think if they released a new server with a few graphical updates it'd bring a lot of people though.

The initial journey was never about to save your people or stop any evil -- it is to relocate the Ascalonian to a new settlement in Kryta. That's it. But along the way, you got sucked in to the conspiracy revolving around the White Mantle guild and the gods they worship. Then one thing lead to another and you got sucked in to another conspiracy about the Flameseeker Prophesies. Then before you know it, you saved the world...for now, until you visited Cantha.
