I never played this game and barely heard of it, but I watched the whole darn 'berg and thoroughly loved the journey, as if it was a game I had been playing. The devotion you put into each entry in both research and presentation makes this video stand out as one of the very best icebergs I've decended over the past two years. Immense respect for the extraordinary effort; you are the best kind of content creator! ⭐️✨
Your comment made my day. That really means a lot to me. It’s tough being a small creator, not receiving as much public recognition as other bigger names do. But hearing things like this just keeps igniting my passion to put out the best content I can. Thank you 🙏
@@Gladrocker I'm glad to hear that. If nothing else, you've certainly provided memorable and quality entertainment to one viewer on his day off! I hope you always do what you love and love what you do. You've made gold. 👍
@@augistry5439there were talks of bringing it to mobile. I thought it would’ve been out by now. Im just honestly surprised the game isn’t completely dead yet!
Surprised that you didn't mention Allan GhostDust at all. Allan GhostDust was a real Wizard101 player named Allan Guzman who got to visit KingsIsle in December 2013 as part of the Make-a-Wish program, before sadly passing away soon after in January 2014. As part of his visit to KingsIsle, his ingame character, Allan GhostDust, was forever immortalized in the game as an NPC and as part of the quest "Message in a Bottle", with his favorite Blaze Beast pet, Lord Snoopie, accompanying him. He's well-remembered because talking to him during the quest will give players their fourth Potion.
@@Gladrocker yes!! theres also one in Pirate, Ryan the Relentless was also named after a little boy from the Make a Wish foundation, his biggest dream being to voice / be part of a kingsisle game. Now, today you can see him in Skull Island offering to refill your yum-yum potions :)
The _"creepy whispering"_ in the DragonSpyre house felt like a huge reach. I've owned that house for many years and it's pretty obviously just the sound of the lava.
And that most of the side quests and some of the main quests are the dogs telling you to scare off the rats/cats, most of them who are just like...trying to live.
@@maguc5906 There was even an entire side quest where you had to help this one cat who was a mime because he was imprisoned for crimes he didn’t commit and has to prove his innocence. There was a similar quest with a frog also in Marleybone, too.
wow this gave me a lot of nostalgia, I almost forgot that our characters used to grunt & scream when they got hit but now I remember it happening so much lol
Yes! That’s actually a topic I added myself (didn’t take as inspiration from other community-made icebergs). I was always so creeped out by how painful incoming hits sounded lol
You’re not imagining things! It’s strange how KingsIsle never officially documented the removal of character noises in any update notes.. And it’s also strange why they even removed these noises in the first place. Perhaps it’s because they didn’t want our characters to have a recognizable voice.
Im so very confused by people saying its creepy cuz it sounds so painful or whatever. For 1 its not a scream its more like a grunt like Morty King says, also it wasnt creepy or intense. Tons of games have similar sounds for being hit, this games sound was very very tame bro idk how its creepy at all. I do remember it too tho, even at 11 this sound didnt scare me.
@@DrizAIM It literally does have a healthy active player base. It's mostly older teens and young adults who are nostalgic over the game and still enjoy the gameplay loop. KingsIsle was recently acquired by a bigger game company and Wizard101 gets regular content and balancing updates.
@@ziwuri if you call a community filled with racists, pedophiles, people who delete accounts, dox others, and attack your personal life a strong community I don’t know what to tell you…
I am very sad they took the character hit sounds out, but THANK GOD they changed pixie. There was nothing like sneaking out to the family pc to play wizard 101 at 3 am and some random casting pixie , waking your entire household. I swear it was the loudest sound in the game
@@Gladrocker I never had that opportunity, and I kind of regret it. I feel like I missed out on so much :( I wonder if new iceberg events will happen even even now.
I cannot believe this game is still alive, 15 whole years, I remember playing this game on the weekends at home during middle school with a few friends. I feel so old reminiscing on it but I remember Wizard101 quite fondly, I want to see what content there is nowadays after I quit playing in 2013.
I've played wizard101 since 2011. I still have it installed and occasionally play it once or twice a year. It's so therapeutic to play it and escape back to my childhood.
I started my account around that time but I haven’t played in over a decade due to being more invested in Toon Town as a child and my parents only paid for one online game subscription for me. I had a short short time of W101 membership and I played the heck out of it. I’m considering going and doing a new membership to play it again after so long. Pretty sure I started playing before 2010, but I would have to check somehow
Same here since 2010! It’s just something about it that no matter how little I play it in my life now, this game will forever be a big part of my childhood and I’d be crushed if I ever lost my account 😭❗️
It was definitely called Hell Hound back then. My friends made fun of me for calling it heck hound, but at the time I was in 4th grade and didn’t want to get in trouble for using foul language.
It's so silly to me that people are like "Yeah, kids can handle stuff about Hell as long as they don't actually see the letter "L" in there, just change that."
One of my biggest mistakes as a kid. Deleting the Selena Gomez painting and statue to create more bank space… I couldn’t have known, but I really wish I just kept it in the dorm or something.
I did that quest when I was like 8 or 9 maybe and after abandoning my account for a bit (I was a F2P player then) I came back as an edgy 12 year old and deleted my wizard to make a death wizard, and thus deleted my Selena Gomez quest rewards. Oh how I wish as an adult I still had them, considering most of that time period and a lot of the early content was such a fever dream to me, and I don’t remember too much of it.
Im gonna point out the fact that, i do not play wizard 101, have no idea who half these characters are, but AS SOON as "Belladonna Crisp" came on screen i knew the reason she was on that iceberg was because she was this game's mommy. That is the reason she's on that iceberg.
omg. i had been reading comments about the wizards grunting/screaming in pain when attacked but couldnt remember any specific sound. when i got to that part in the video and actually heard them, i audibly gasped because i was suddenly flooded with memories of 7 year old me sitting in front of the computer and cringing when i "let my wizard get hurt" because they sounded so genuine regardless i loved those sounds and wished they had kept it because they add an edge of humanity that is otherwise forgotten. wizard101 pls bring this back like you brought moonface back !!
i played wizard101 so much as a little kid! i remember the death screams and everything. now i'm in my twenties and hyperfixated on the game again. this was a very enjoyable video!!
In the same boat as you brother :) . Started the game at 8 years old, I'm 21 now, not a day goes by where I regret it either . My childhood was bad fkin ass man. And I thank wizard101 for many many many great memories and times . I'll never forget going to crab alley for the first time to save Selena and loosing my shit over how cool it was, remembering the Celestia commercial, (that commercial is actually what introduced me to wiz) I remember even when the 39$ bundles came out! I was one of many who got their massive fantasy palace! I adored the prestigious gear , and loved the mount. God the memories I could go on and on!
Same here! 20 years old, started playing in 2013, only ever got to level 11 because I refuse to spend money on it and never took it that seriously, just kinda did random stuff. I'm suddenly obsessed now and getting as many free crowns as I can to see how far I can get in the game without paying lol
It’s possible that the “Lincoln memory loss” refers to something I noticed myself: When starting Polaris, the player graduates from Ravenwood. Lincoln says “I can’t seem to remember the last time we had a graduation ceremony here at Ravenwood”, which is just a 4th wall joke considering this is the only time something like this happens in-game. However, in Polaris we meet a wizard NPC named Brandon who was added in through Make-A-Wish. When giving us his quest, he states that he graduated from Ravenwood as well, and he looks and sounds young. This may lead to fans saying that Lincoln has memory loss. Polaris was released on November 18, 2015, and Brandon was added on August 3, 2016. So it’s highly likely that the writers just didn’t even consider Lincoln’s off-hand joke, and the dialogue was also probably co-written by Brandon himself.
the "good boy/girl" maycast thing reminds me of a thing in toontown, where people would say "GLUE!" to make their lure gags hit more frequently and "Missed me!" to decrease the accuracy of the cogs' attacks (there's also "Hit me!" to stop the cogs from attacking weaker players). i think its pretty cool how the communities think in similar ways, despite them being 2 different games!
I feel like those damage screams were just removed not too long ago. I've been playing this game for more than a decade and I can't get used to the new damage sounds our wizards do. It's pretty nostalgic at this point now.
I agree! I miss the "oouuhh" grunt my character did when taking damage , but do you remember the Mega jump? Where you jumped super high in the air? I remember doing that and sometimes I would get stuck spamming space, so my character looked like he was flying, nowadays people get stuck squatting when they do that haha😄
I've been an Avid player of Wizard 101 since release, and as you asked, I do indeed have a Meowmodon and some others of these rare items listed on the Iceberg, including some of the KingsIsle employee gifts. This was a great video, glad I got to watch it all and remember the first boom this wonderful game had
Very impressive! Wish I got to experience some of those early events myself 😅 And thank you for the kind words! I’m actually working on a long part 2 video as we speak - hopefully you’ll enjoy that just as much!
This was such a blast from the past. I started playing Wiz sometime in 2008 when I was 9. I used to BEG my parents endlessly for a membership (finally got one when I was around 15). I’ve been playing off and on since maybe 4th grade and am now 24, I recently got my boyfriend into the game and we’re currently leveling my life wizard and his death wizard through the first arc. So much of the early content feels like a fever dream, but I for SURE remember the Selena Gomez event, and all the parties people would throw in the massive fantasy palace. I had a close friend in the game way back then who would invite me to them (probably out of pity because I was a non member and pretty young) and I felt so cool being included by all these high level member players. Anyway, thanks for this video. I’ve literally spent my entire childhood playing this game and it’s still a pretty prevalent part of my life to this day.
That’s amazing you have so many core memories from your experiences playing the game! I wish I got to experience some of those earlier moments myself (Selena Gomez collab, house parties, etc). I’m so happy to hear you enjoyed the video 🙌 Thank you for your kind words!
I was chronically on this game in elementary school, so I for sure remember the 100,000 health Malistaire, Sylvia being a minion, the Four Onis, and so on. The fight screams, the old animation sounds, PVP parties at the Palace, ughhh. I experienced all of it. I’m getting nostalgic 😭😭😭
I remember the old imp spell. I had a life wizard in like 2009 and I thought the imp animation was very strange. I also vividly remember the wizard scream when getting hurt sound effect too! I thought it was a nice touch that gave the wizard more personality. I also remember the Selena Gomez promotion. I wonder if the old account I had still exists. It was an under 13 account because I remembered the wizards chat bubbles being only . . ., which was well over 10 years ago.
the most impressive part of this video is the fact that you seem to have responded to every single comment. the passion and enthusiasm you have is radiant, and I'm glad this video has done so well. Keep up the work big dawg, I'm happy to see it.
Hahaha you’re actually one of the first people to notice that about the comments. I just love interacting with everyone - it’s super cool reading what you all have to say 😎 And thanks so much! Your kind words mean a lot. Hope to see you around my comments more 🙏
@@Gladrockeri second that, this was by far one of the best icebergs i’ve ever seen in general (not just wizard101 related) actually idk if anyone else has ever made a wizard101 iceberg but im sure you know what i mean lol, i was so intrigued by this video and it didn’t seem like you were reading off a poorly written script of a bunch of topics, like you genuinely did explain everything to your best knowledge, tried to include evidence and even gave your personal thoughts on it lol great work man, i’m about to watch the deeper dive of the wizard101 iceberg so im looking forward to that 👀
This is the first RUclips video I’ve commented on in probably 5 years. Been playing wiz on and off since 2008, and this video brought back so many amazing memories. Thank you for taking the time to make this masterpiece.
Wow! I’m so happy this video brought back those good memories for you! I also get filled with nostalgia whenever i watch or make wizard101 content. (I started playing back in 2011). Anyway, I appreciate your kind words, means a lot 😄
One thing I want to add about Gameforge: There was a Turkish server hosted by Gameforge back when I was a kid. The first arc was always free. Everyone just played until the end of first arc because the membership money was(and still is) WAY too much for us because of the currency exchange rates. Also, because of that reason almost everyone had the mounts you can buy with gold from the crown shop(Lion, broom etc.). Same thing with houses. The chat only filtered swear words. A lot of people played it and The Commons would always be filled with chat bubbles. It was so easy to find people to play with. I understand why it shut down though, almost nobody payed money on it.
It makes me super happy that there is a chance for people to know the existence of the CW ( clan world ) in wiz. Those times back in the day was insane.
Happy to give you all the representation you deserve! Although there were plenty of bad members who unfortunately got most of the attention, from what I've gathered, most participants were extremely kind, respectful and dedicated to roleplaying
I played back with the damage screams (idk why they removed it, sounds normal to me) and the original imp animation, this is so nostalgic >< and I swear it was hell hound because i remember noticing when they changed it. i'm like ...90% sure but I could just remember it wrong
That’s awesome you’ve been around the game/community for so long! Wish i started way back in 2008. And interesting - i guess we’ll never know for sure about hell hound unless ki shows us proof haha
This video is so nostalgic! I started playing this game around 2010 and loved it ever since. As a child I dreamt working for Kingsisle, it didnt exactly happen, but it's what motivated me to be an artist. Thank you for this in-depth analysis!
Also it wasn’t one of the things you said to comment down below but I have access to the spiral key dungeon because I put off doing that quest until like 2019. I had no idea it wasn’t available anymore XD
The 4 Oni fight was a part of the enhanced boss timeframe. Heroboy102 has footage on his YT from 2009. Also, the Jotun (Grizzleheim boss) was also enhanced.
I was going to say I was there for the event, it was actually when I played through mooshu so I was confused when I revisited and only Jade was there. I've brought this up to people and they've all called me crazy, thank you for finally proving it wasn't a Mandela effect 😂
Blown away by this video, so many of these features from early game 2009-2013 I remember so vividly but haven't thought about since then. Thank you for allowing me to mentally go back to my childhood.
41:09 Lemuria has a special area called "Sky City" which is a futuristic place inhabited by futuristic humanoids, and they inexplicably call our Wizard a "Hero" (with a capital, implying they used to be Hero101 characters.)
OG Wizard player here with a bit of insight! Firstly, the damage screams were removed in around 2016 or 2017 when KI gave the first world and some assets of the game a visual upgrade. Some sound effects were changed to reflect this, like the pixie spell, and that included the damage sound effects. Weirdly, I never found these really creepy as they weren’t very loud or long or anything. Secondly, I was an active member during the music video and clans phase, as these both went hand in hand. There were 2 clan scenes. The death tower was the darker one, while other clans took on a more open, “pop culture” sort of appearance. However, even the lighter side of clans were clique-y. One of the most popular clans during that period was the Candy Girls Clan, of which I ended up meeting the leader, Sarah Mistflame. I also met one of the people in the infamous “La la la” music video, that being Alia Wildrider (the girl in red!). Lastly, I was apart of the group that used the infinite mushroom exploit in Azteca. I was initially banned, but filed an appeal saying I didn’t really understand the implications of taking said mushroom at the time, as I was only 13 or so when it happened. I logged into my sister’s account in the aftermath to see the damage banning thousands of players had, and for once the top realms of the game were actually EMPTY. It was a wild time, and the backlash was very immense. There was talks of boycotting KI if they didn’t reduce the permanent bans to suspensions, as this glitch had been in the game for a while and reported on already. Yet KI didn’t do anything until they realized players were using it to farm gold. I also think I vaguely remember Hellhound being a thing, as you could not say Hell in the game, but you could say Hellhound at one point. I remember the Selena Gomez event but sadly I think child me didn’t realize the value of those items and ended up selling them?? 😭 the portrait sold for 10k gold.
Just finished reading through everything! Very cool information - I love learning more about these iceberg topics, and it’s awesome you’ve been around the community for so long!
Yes, the Candy Girls Clan! There were a bunch of sister/brother clans named after candies. It was honestly so fun. Was never involved in the darker ones. Tbh, didn't even know they were a thing.
I have something on the Celestia prequest. One part of it required interacting with a machine named "Resonating Omni Audio Graph" that was located on Triton Avenue near the mill near Blad Raveneye. As we know now, Wizard City got his First Time User Experience (FTUE) revamped, so the machine got removed from that place and realocated to the inside of the Storm School. So the real time of the retirement of the Celestia prequest is most likely the same of the FTUE revamp that modified Triton Avenue.
I never played the game beyond the free trial but watching these lore and explanation videos are so entertaining. This must be how people who don’t play other old games feel when they watch these documentary style videos on them. Very nice.
Another good one would be the original Obsidian Chest Quest. It got shortened but I remember there being A LOT more fragments of the staff and the quest took me days.
I second this one. That questline was the biggest PITA because of all the parts and I swear that one of the chests was in Big Ben. I believe there were what, ten parts to it? It was the worst thing ever and always made me loathe getting to that part in DS
Thanks so much for the support everyone ❤ With all the researching, recording and editing, this project took MONTHS to complete. I've never put so much effort into a single video project before, and I couldn't be happier with how it came out. Let me know if you like this style of video, and want me to make more!
This is the most comprehensive runthru of some of the main points of interest around the game over the years! Amazingly done, thank you for all that effort!
Just finished this and WOW, this is so detailed and well made. Totally didn't notice the damage screams being gone for the longest time and I really miss it. Our characters felt more human :) Keep it up!
Remembered this game way back in the day. Surprised to see wizard 101 still going strong and receive updates frequently. Majority of other games like wizards 101 are long gone and forgotten, sad to see. The Joans brother event really shows how old this game is. Awesome iceberg coverage 🔥🔥🔥
I recently got back into Wizard101 after not playing for over a decade. I was wondering why my player didn’t make a sound when taking damage. I actually kinda miss it
LMAOOOO thanks my guy for putting my gameplay footage in your video (only found out about it today). Would’ve loved if you asked to use it for the video but glad to be featured in it at the 8:10 mark
If you do a 2nd part, you should also touch on the game's positive cultural / community aspects. I was addicted to Wizard 101 between ages 8 and 13/14, and the two most significant benefits to me were practicing my English, which is my 3rd language (since the chat filters out misspelled words), and making online friends. I haven't played in 10 years, but I am still in touch with 2 of my closest wizard friends from back in the day; one of them just had her first daughter, and I met up with the other one when I studied abroad in the States for a year, time sure flies. I keep up with Wizard 101 content for nostalgia / out of curiosity these days. Great job on this one.
Finally, a streamer who actually streams interesting topics about the game and doesn't deal in cheap drama!!! Very refreshing! Please keep doing what you are doing!!!
The hell hound one is absolutely real. Not only do I remember it so so clearly but if you do the fire school exclusive quest to get the heck hound card the voice acting still says hell hound!
I played the game around 10 years ago as a kid and I specifically remember the card being called Hellhound not Heckhound. I find this crazy how the mandela effect works!
same actually, I remember seeing it as hell hound for a while and one day I started seeing it as heck hound, I think in my head I just thought "Oh, they must've changed it, thats fair, I thought it was a lil bold to begin with" but perhaps my brain just auto corrected for a while
This is AWESOME!!! Well done! As a very early player, I actually remembered some of these!! I remembered the wizards yelling in pain, and I was called a BSer, and my bro didn't believe me. THIS IS THE PROOF I NEEDED!!!!!! (I also remember Heck Hound being called Hell Hound, I know I'm wrong, but I still remember it like that lol)
What a blast from the past! It reminded me of a fan theory I read once when Pirate101 was still popular. Basically, you were first a pirate in Pirate101 since you are on the quest for the Key to El Dorado. There is also a quest where your dead parents ghosts call out to you and tell you to "Find the Key to El Dorado." Anyways, the theory was that you were "blessed/cursed" upon gaining the riches of El Dorado by becoming immortal (Or unkillable) when you were a Teen. Because of this when all was said and done and you've enjoyed being a Pirate for years but now you're bored and you hear/see Wizard City. You take it upon yourself to quit the pirate lifestyle and try out being a Wizard. Kind of weird but I always imaged what Pirate101 would've turned out to be and thought that would've been a super cool storyline!
Watching this video was a really nostalgic experience for me. I first played this game in 2010 and have been playing it intermittently ever since. It's surprising how many of these I didn't know and how much I had forgotten!
I actually have a Valor Sword on my account that I made back in october of 2008. I hold it near and dear to my heart. Especially with its now legendary status
Wow!! That’s incredible. Well, it’s a good thing KI claimed back those streamer codes to preserve the exclusivity of the item. Never delete your account!
This video good lord, I dont think I've ever felt nostalgic about this game until now. I remember a lot of this stuff but I've seen to have forgotten until I re heard them
Did you know that they actually added in the creepy heart-throw version of the Evil Snowman in the new Novus update? Some of the enemies actually use it. UPDATE: seems a few comments already pointed this out!
The 4 Oni fight was definitely not a test realm only scenario. Mooshu was originally the final world and the final boss was Jade Oni alongside all the other Oni. I remember doing the fight in 2009 and it was still the case. I can't remember when they removed it but it was definitely before Zafaria.
Very good to know, thanks for confirming! It’s difficult to obtain this kind of information because there’s not much documentation available online from during that era.
@@Gladrocker I can't confirm this one personally but from everything I understand, yes, this one is indeed true. I started playing the game back when Dragonspyre had *just* been added and people still talked about the four oni fight. Also, it was a huge thing about how next to impossible The Great Spyre was to beat and that you literally couldn't do the dungeon with less than four people. That was always a huge topic of discussion back then.
Wow, what a time! Wish we could go back and experience it all over again (…or in my case, a first time 😂) I bet The Great Spyre was quite the challenge! Wonder what it was like to experience upon release
As a matter of fact, I remember some stuff about "Ghost Girl". Some friend of mine use to have that house and I would explore with a bunch of random people. The ghost girl would just spawn in random locations, especially that one location shown and when you would walk away and come back, she would disappear. I think it was for a short period of time though, because of an update. It was weird tho. The part where people's game would crash, I haven't experienced that.
thats actually kinda scary ngl this was just, apparently, a thing that we still dont have an explanation for cant believe ive never seen this before, i used to own that house (and play the game)
oh my god i think i remember asking my dad to buy the Massive Fantasy Palace pack for me from Gamestop when i was a kid. This video just unlocked that memory
Great suggestion. The only problem is that I’ve never played the game, so my background information is lacking. But with enough research it’s certainly possible!
It's still pretty worth to solo the game at least once, the story is fun, the graffics are surprisingly better/ smoother, and makes the spiral feel way bigger
I appreciate the effort to make this video. I've been playing since the game came out and never realized some of the changes made like the life imp doesn't circle the enemy anymore, or elucidate tc. It brings a lot of nostalgia in a refreshing way. Good video!
As someone who used to play on the Gameforge server back in 2010-2014 (specifically the spanish one), questing was HELL. Literally it was hard to find people in the high level worlds, and actually meeting people who were in the same quest as you was a huge deal. I never played on the NA servers until a few months ago and questing is so much faster because there's WAAY more people playing.
Totally remember fighting Sylvia Drake with Malistaire way back then. Completely forgot she showed up until seeing her model again. Such a hard battle at the time.
I actually teleported into that fight via a friend (back when that was something you could do). If I remember correctly, didn't she have a mechanic where she healed the player? I remember looking at the health meter on malastair and going "oh this will be fun to do later lol".
It's crazy watching this. I played back around when it first came out, I remember being so surprised when they started making commercials and when it started getting bigger and bigger. I think I stopped playing a bit after wisteria was introduced, so seeing how much the game has changed and how much has been added is nuts to me. It's so wild to me to see how some of the stuff I had is now seen as rare. I'm highly considering redownloading it and playing again just to see it all. I'm just so nostalgic and in awe. The fact I played a decade ago, when I was 8 years old, is so nuts. Good video man. Really hit me in the nostalgia
Thanks man, I’m really glad you enjoyed it! And yeah, I also get hit right in the nostalgia when making + watching content like this. Those really were the glory days 🥲 You should def redownload and give it a shot!
19:00 It is actually confirmed that IS what she looked like as Headmistress. An in-game screenshot of her model as the Headmistress has floated around before and she looked a lot different compared to how she does now as an Ice professor: she was taller and had a pink outfit just like in the portrait shown in the video.
The portrait can be found in some of Dragonspyre dungeons. The ones that use the same room as the final boss of The Grand Chasm does. On the left there's some space but behind bars and there are various things stored there, one of which is the Greyrose portrait. I believe there's also Ice Prof. Ambrose in there too.
@@Gladrocker The easiest way, as I said, is the last Grand Chasm boss, Vasek Ashweaver. It should be in his vault to the left. I had a theory that those portraits depicted the teachers at Dragonspyre Academy. A piece of proof could be that the statue in the academy ruins looks like a model of that Ice-School Ambrose.. Perhaps he was the Academy's headmaster? Wouldn't make sense considering the world theme and him being ice tho..
I first played this game like 6 years ago and I just got back to it. I miss the old model for the frost beatle where it looked like the scarab. Now it has a weird shape
This game made up a huge portion of my childhood and I still play it for a few weeks at a time as an adult, I’m glad it has its own iceberg, considering almost no body speaks about this game outside of closed circles and forums
@@Gladrocker one thing I didn’t see on the iceberg is the Panther Mount craze between 2013-2017 where the black panther mount reigned supreme as the most sought after mount in the game, it gotten so popular that it wasn’t uncommon to see upwards of 30 black panther mounts in the commons over many servers. It was so popular that some people without crowns would trade high valuable items just to get one.
Can confirm the damage scream was a thing, that unlocked a deep memory LOL I vaguely remembering noting their absence too when I came back but I didn’t think much of it when they were around or when they were taken away.
I've been with wiz since release so I remember a TON of these occurrences! I even have the frankie forearms pet on one of my accounts. Loved the video and all the memories it brought back. Thanks for bringing more light to the world of wiz!
You’re very welcome!! That’s so cool you remember most of these! And I can’t believe you have the Frankie Forearms pet. I’m jealous. He’s adorable! I’m glad you enjoyed the video 🙂
I have a Frankie Forearms too! I played the game just for the pet lol. I did the same when they first released Grub Guardian and now I have a Storm Beetle :).
This video was absolutely great to watch, Wizard101 will always hold a special place in my heart, thank you for the time and effort you put into making this
Wait, the screams were removed?!? I've been playing this game for 15 years and always just assumed the screams were still there because they're burned into my memory.
I actually was able to obtain the old bone dragon mount! I was checking packs to open because my mom got me crowns on my 9th birthday and it coincidentally came out on that day which was very fortunate for me. This game was fun in my youth and still looks as fun as it did even in my 20's!
Being a w101 OG starting my account in 2010, the nostalgia in this video is CRAZY . Bro really brought up the legendary fantasy palace PvP parties 😂❗️ Side note: Who remembers the glitch where other players could see you run through the wall by clicking and holding the edge of the screen 🤣
i miss the epic fantasy castle. I used to hang out with other players there and so badly wanted to get it for myself one day. Too bad it's no longer available :(
52:11 I actually remember fighting all the Onis as the end boss when I first started playing. My friend got me into the game in when I was in 3rd grade, currently a junior in college, and he let me play on his account and he was in the middle of MooShu. I finished the world for him and definitely remember fighting 4 onis at the end.
Oh yeah, me too! I remember doing it a bunch, because you could teleport to a friend who was in a paid area without needing to actually pay for that area.
One item that wasnt mentioned is the Storm Beetle Pet. It was sold by prospector Zeke in 2010 for 101 crowns after the 1,000,000th student joined the game. He had a limited supply, although i dont know how many he had, but I was able to snag one back then.

OH MY GOD I REMEMBER THE DAMAGE SCREAMS, I always wondered why they were removed, I actually always liked them
I knew i wasn’t crazy when I first remembered too 😂 And no idea, maybe because they didn’t want to give our character a voice

Right! I never noticed till now that they were once removed, as i have played without volume for years lmao
I remember thinking that it made a lot of sense to have them, I remember them too
i came here to say i miss them whyyy are they gone
I love how this game is like 15 years old at this point and it still gets updates and it's mostly played by like adults and teenagers now

He's well-remembered because talking to him during the quest will give players their fourth Potion.
wow! i need to look into this. very interesting
@@Gladrocker yes!! theres also one in Pirate, Ryan the Relentless was also named after a little boy from the Make a Wish foundation, his biggest dream being to voice / be part of a kingsisle game. Now, today you can see him in Skull Island offering to refill your yum-yum potions :)
ooo very cool! didn’t know that!
Late to this, but I really wish I found out about this sooner. That is so cool
i remember when they announced that on their website!!
The _"creepy whispering"_ in the DragonSpyre house felt like a huge reach. I've owned that house for many years and it's pretty obviously just the sound of the lava.
I know right 😂
I’m surprised there was no mention of the undertones of Marleybone, how the dogs have all the society power and all the criminals are rats or cats.
That’s a good topic. If I make a part 2 I’ll have to include that
And that most of the side quests and some of the main quests are the dogs telling you to scare off the rats/cats, most of them who are just like...trying to live.

wow this gave me a lot of nostalgia, I almost forgot that our characters used to grunt & scream when they got hit but now I remember it happening so much lol
Yes! That’s actually a topic I added myself (didn’t take as inspiration from other community-made icebergs). I was always so creeped out by how painful incoming hits sounded lol
Oh my god yes! I forgot about it too
I knew they had a voice before! But no one seemed to ever mention it that's why for a moment I thought I was imagining things.
I am so glad that wiz still has a strong community 😭

I cannot believe this game is still alive, 15 whole years, I remember playing this game on the weekends at home during middle school with a few friends. I feel so old reminiscing on it but I remember Wizard101 quite fondly, I want to see what content there is nowadays after I quit playing in 2013.

I've played wizard101 since 2011. I still have it installed and occasionally play it once or twice a year.
It's so therapeutic to play it and escape back to my childhood.
i also started my account way back in 2011! those were the days huh?
Same here and I think I’ll start to make it my primary MMO right now until Ashes of Creation. The combat has been unmatched so far for me
I started my account around that time but I haven’t played in over a decade due to being more invested in Toon Town as a child and my parents only paid for one online game subscription for me.

My friends made fun of me for calling it heck hound, but at the time I was in 4th grade and didn’t want to get in trouble for using foul language.
ahh interesting. better safe than sorry calling it heck hound lol. don’t wanna get in trouble, back in the day
I remember as well. I remember one day logging in and wondered why the name changed. Now that I'm older, I realized why and the video clarifies it
Yeah I remember when they changed it.
It's so silly to me that people are like "Yeah, kids can handle stuff about Hell as long as they don't actually see the letter "L" in there, just change that."

One of my biggest mistakes as a kid. Deleting the Selena Gomez painting and statue to create more bank space… I couldn’t have known, but I really wish I just kept it in the dorm or something.
aww man that’s too bad!
You are correct. 🤣🤣

omg. i had been reading comments about the wizards grunting/screaming in pain when attacked but couldnt remember any specific sound. when i got to that part in the video and actually heard them, i audibly gasped because i was suddenly flooded with memories of 7 year old me sitting in front of the computer and cringing when i "let my wizard get hurt" because they sounded so genuine
regardless i loved those sounds and wished they had kept it because they add an edge of humanity that is otherwise forgotten. wizard101 pls bring this back like you brought moonface back !!

So it’s highly likely that the writers just didn’t even consider Lincoln’s off-hand joke, and the dialogue was also probably co-written by Brandon himself.
oooh great point! very cool
the carpet trick is definitely the most nostalgic thing i can remember from a kid

the "good boy/girl" maycast thing reminds me of a thing in toontown, where people would say "GLUE!" to make their lure gags hit more frequently and "Missed me!" to decrease the accuracy of the cogs' attacks (there's also "Hit me!" to stop the cogs from attacking weaker players). i think its pretty cool how the communities think in similar ways, despite them being 2 different games!
it’s funny how different game communities have their own superstitions!
As a long time Toontown player, "GLUE!" was the first thing to come to mind for me as well! Glad to see someone else who played both games.

I agree! I miss the "oouuhh" grunt my character did when taking damage , but do you remember the Mega jump? Where you jumped super high in the air?

Hahaha awesome!! 😄
I haven't played in years but I remember the 4 oni fight and also the 100k health pool

Ooh that’s super interesting. Thanks for telling me! Yeah I suppose if nobody’s paying then it makes sense the servers shut down haha

It was wild times, people creating clans on there own without a clan system
That’s honestly super cool. I can’t think of many other features the playerbase created themselves without any help from the developers
OMG. That is some ancient game history right there. Seeing those people in scarecrow realm and w101 Central all the time...

41:09 Lemuria has a special area called "Sky City" which is a futuristic place inhabited by futuristic humanoids, and they inexplicably call our Wizard a "Hero" (with a capital, implying they used to be Hero101 characters.)
Ooh good catch! That’s so cool!
Oh that’s a very good catch! It’s too bad I didn’t pick up on that during my research. Thanks for letting me know though, super interesting!

Another good one would be the original Obsidian Chest Quest. It got shortened but I remember there being A LOT more fragments of the staff and the quest took me days.

I played the game around 10 years ago as a kid and I specifically remember the card being called Hellhound not Heckhound. I find this crazy how the mandela effect works!
it’s such an odd phenomenon! so many people’s memories are incorrect. Wild!
same actually, I remember seeing it as hell hound for a while and one day I started seeing it as heck hound, I think in my head I just thought "Oh, they must've changed it, thats fair, I thought it was a lil bold to begin with" but perhaps my brain just auto corrected for a while
hahaha you’re not alone!
This is AWESOME!!! Well done! As a very early player, I actually remembered some of these!! I remembered the wizards yelling in pain, and I was called a BSer, and my bro didn't believe me. THIS IS THE PROOF I NEEDED!!!!!!
(I also remember Heck Hound being called Hell Hound, I know I'm wrong, but I still remember it like that lol)
hahaha you gotta show this to your bro as proof! you were right all along!
Love this theory!! 😄 So cool!
This is what actually happened btw. Never went back since
Watching this video was a really nostalgic experience for me. I first played this game in 2010 and have been playing it intermittently ever since. It's surprising how many of these I didn't know and how much I had forgotten!
I’m glad i was able to include topics that even long term players have forgotten! can’t wait to make a part 2 😜
I remember a lot of this stuff but I've seen to have forgotten until I re heard them
glad you enjoyed! 🙌
Did you know that they actually added in the creepy heart-throw version of the Evil Snowman in the new Novus update? Some of the enemies actually use it. UPDATE: seems a few comments already pointed this out!
Yep 😂 That’s super cool though, and i wonder if the original 2007 concept was going to be darker than how it is now
I remember my mother refusing to pay for the game and replaying the demo a million times
me too haha it took a miracle to get my parents to finally put money into it
The 4 Oni fight was definitely not a test realm only scenario.
Interesting! Maybe it really is more than just a rumor!
thats actually kinda scary ngl
this was just, apparently, a thing that we still dont have an explanation for
cant believe ive never seen this before, i used to own that house (and play the game)
the Celestia prequest line was the most annoyingly difficult thing i've ever done to this day in this game.
that’s what i’ve heard! never got to experience it myself unfortunately
oh my god i think i remember asking my dad to buy the Massive Fantasy Palace pack for me from Gamestop when i was a kid. This video just unlocked that memory
Thank you for making this. I missed the old days playing Wizard101 right after school…
You’re very welcome! So do I 😔
You should really do a pirate101 iceberg, there is some crazy bizarre stuff with that game and a whole lot of archaic content
Great suggestion. The only problem is that I’ve never played the game, so my background information is lacking. But with enough research it’s certainly possible!
It's still pretty worth to solo the game at least once, the story is fun, the graffics are surprisingly better/ smoother, and makes the spiral feel way bigger
I’ll have to give it a shot!
They retired the Celestia Prequest? Bruh that quest was iconic to me
It really has been a long time since I played.
the mention of the spiral key quest is CRAZY, i knew i wasnt tripping looking at that closed dungeon today 😭😭
ahahah
I appreciate the effort to make this video.
I've been playing since the game came out and never realized some of the changes made like the life imp doesn't circle the enemy anymore, or elucidate tc. It brings a lot of nostalgia in a refreshing way. Good video!
Thank you for the kind words! I am glad you enjoyed!
Such a hard battle at the time.
that’s awesome! i wasn’t around for that. it’s neat they used her human model, and yeah that battle looked super tough
I actually teleported into that fight via a friend (back when that was something you could do). If I remember correctly, didn't she have a mechanic where she healed the player? I remember looking at the health meter on malastair and going "oh this will be fun to do later lol".
threw this video on while questing and it was even more enjoyable, thanks for the dedication you put into a nostalgic piece of our childhoods
you’re very welcome :)
if i ever met nick jonas irl i'd wanna gasp and say "you're that guy, right? from wizard101?" just to see his face 😭
lmaooo
An in-game screenshot of her model as the Headmistress has floated around before and she looked a lot different compared to how she does now as an Ice professor: she was taller and had a pink outfit just like in the portrait shown in the video.
ooh that’s good to know!
The portrait can be found in some of Dragonspyre dungeons. The ones that use the same room as the final boss of The Grand Chasm does. On the left there's some space but behind bars and there are various things stored there, one of which is the Greyrose portrait. I believe there's also Ice Prof. Ambrose in there too.
cool! i’d love to go searching for those
@@Gladrocker The easiest way, as I said, is the last Grand Chasm boss, Vasek Ashweaver. It should be in his vault to the left.
I had a theory that those portraits depicted the teachers at Dragonspyre Academy. A piece of proof could be that the statue in the academy ruins looks like a model of that Ice-School Ambrose.. Perhaps he was the Academy's headmaster? Wouldn't make sense considering the world theme and him being ice tho..
good theory! but yeah the fact that he’s ice seems weird..
I first played this game like 6 years ago and I just got back to it. I miss the old model for the frost beatle where it looked like the scarab. Now it has a weird shape
agreed lol
oh no what have they done to my beloved frost beetle??
This game made up a huge portion of my childhood and I still play it for a few weeks at a time as an adult, I’m glad it has its own iceberg, considering almost no body speaks about this game outside of closed circles and forums
Happy to be the creator of it :) Enjoy!
It was so popular that some people without crowns would trade high valuable items just to get one.
oh cool! I actually never knew about that. thanks for telling me
I burst out laughing for 2 whole minutes after seeing that walter white broadcast message.
😂😂😂
used to play this game a ton when 50 was the maximum level. could never really get back into it afterwards; questing just feels long and rough
yeah some of the newer questing definitely feels like a slog. 😪
I did the same when they first released Grub Guardian and now I have a Storm Beetle :).
ooo very nice!
This video was absolutely great to watch, Wizard101 will always hold a special place in my heart, thank you for the time and effort you put into making this
Aw thanks so much! So happy your enjoyed watching it 😄 And I’m working on a part 2 as we speak, so hopefully you’ll enjoy it just as much
AMAZING!!!! Never knew basically any of these things, so was very cool finding out about these secretive topics. Great video 🎉🎉!!
Thanks so much!! Glad you enjoyed learning all about these secretive topics! 🙌
6:20 , I have a old zafaria pack that had a huge house that had a battle arena as well back then
Wait, the screams were removed?!? I've been playing this game for 15 years and always just assumed the screams were still there because they're burned into my memory.
I actually was able to obtain the old bone dragon mount! I was checking packs to open because my mom got me crowns on my 9th birthday and it coincidentally came out on that day which was very fortunate for me. This game was fun in my youth and still looks as fun as it did even in my 20's!
that’s amazing!
I went back into this game and my life has gotten better overall. Thank you so much for making this iceberg video! 🧙🏾♀🌠
You’re very welcome! I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
I have rewatched your iceberg videos so many times this videos to me are dreams come true of someone making this type of videos i love lores of games
Thanks so much 😁 And you will love my next long video! (still working on it 😉 )
Man what a blast from the past looking through this video great work compiling all this
Thank you man, much appreciated 🙏🙏
Never thought I’d see my childhood game being talked about again ❤️❤️❤️
Nostalgia overflow! 😂
Being a w101 OG starting my account in 2010, the nostalgia in this video is CRAZY . Bro really brought up the legendary fantasy palace PvP parties 😂❗️
Side note: Who remembers the glitch where other players could see you run through the wall by clicking and holding the edge of the screen 🤣
glad you enjoyed it 😂 and yoo i still do that glitch sometimes, but it doesn’t actually benefit you / make you actually walk through walls lol
i miss the epic fantasy castle. I used to hang out with other players there and so badly wanted to get it for myself one day. Too bad it's no longer available :(
Hopefully they’ll bring it back again some day! :(
52:11 I actually remember fighting all the Onis as the end boss when I first started playing. My friend got me into the game in when I was in 3rd grade, currently a junior in college, and he let me play on his account and he was in the middle of MooShu. I finished the world for him and definitely remember fighting 4 onis at the end.
really? that’s awesome! glad you can confirm
Oh yeah, me too! I remember doing it a bunch, because you could teleport to a friend who was in a paid area without needing to actually pay for that area.
Dude this unlocked sooo many memories , elucidate, valor, the oni fights, the cl prequest
good times man
that massive fantasy party part made me feel old LMAOOOO
IKR 🤣
@@Gladrocker i have the house i kinda wanna throw a party now lmao
lmaoo you have to!
One item that wasnt mentioned is the Storm Beetle Pet. It was sold by prospector Zeke in 2010 for 101 crowns after the 1,000,000th student joined the game. He had a limited supply, although i dont know how many he had, but I was able to snag one back then.
Oooo, great catch! I’m actually covering this in my next video 😄 should have it uploaded by end of February!
