Amazing content, this is truly the hero’s journey to kill a middle aged necromancer of all time. Something I’d like to mention though- Grizzleheim starts at lvl20 and runs through your 40’s. you’re supposed to work on it whenever you get stuck on the main line. You missed the good ole days where to get crowns, you had to do quizzes and watch questionable ads that took weeks to get through (there was a limit) to get to cyclops lane for free. Also applied to pirate 101
You can still do quizzes and watch ads for crowns, though the rate could definitely stand to be a little higher than 10 crowns per quiz given world costs.
Wizard 101 is the one video game I always wanted to play growing up, the commercials made if feel like the best game ever created. To this day I still never played but the memories of the commercials will always hold a special place in my heart.
I played it as a child and it's the ONLY game that made me like and not get bored by card mechanics, too bad it's a micro transaction p2w fiilled hellhole now
It took me way to long to realize grizzleheim is just a Beowulf joke essentially. Beowulf is old English for bee wolf or their word for bear, and grendell is the monster he kills who ransacked the mead hall
The huge stones in grizzleheim all have rune carvings on them that translate to "big bear fort" lmao. When i was super into wizard 101 as a kid I was also hyperfixating on Norse runes and I memorized the futhark alphabet
@@junomonsoonahh it would've been cool if they whent head on with the Beowulf theme and used the Futhorc (English) runic alphabet I mean they could've there isn't much structural difference between the alphabets just a few different characters
dawg i remember playing wizard 101 when i was a kid and being so pissed because everything was locked behind the membership bs and my mom never got it for me 😭😭
Hey, a short correction- Triton avenue is actually completely free! That makes the ‘tutorial’ significantly longer. Also, most of the wizard city main story beats happen in triton avenue anyways
Thank you for saying this. I haven’t played in a few years so I wasn’t sure if they had changed it. I also think they’ve updated the story lines and taken some content out because when I first started forever ago. I felt like unicorn way and triton avenue took more than 15 minutes.
@@LunairiumTriton Avenue definitely used to have more to it for free players, I swear you used to fight Lord Nightshade there But with the reworks it seems you have to go to the other paywalled streets before you can even do that now
@@BassBanj0 I can confirm you used to be able to. I remember the first time I fought him as a kid, MANY a year ago. Bless the stranger who noticed me constantly wiping and deciding to go in with me.
My fiancé has been playing this game since 2008. This video has made more sense than anything he's ever tried to explain to me. In case anyone wanted an update: we watched it together; it took about 4 hours to watch because we had to keep pausing to discuss. His favourite place is Marleybone. Really changed how I look at him :/
oh man, I remember playing this back in 2010. i was too broke for a subscription and there was no way my parents would pay for one, so i just unlocked the zones in wizard city over the course of months and did the same for crocotopia, but i ended up never finishing the first arc cause my sister snitched on me playing, so i had to stop. this feels like closure now, thanks!
Hey choopo, it would be cool if for a big milestone or as an April Fools video you would do a "The Bizarre Lore of Choopo" where you do a break down of the weird throwaway gags you do in your videos as if they are cannon to a cinnematic multiverse! I also recommend adding some of the more fun fan theories about your lore; like the one where the reason you don't see your pyschiatrist is because his wife is an Italian and the Italian people are still hunting you down after the pasta breaking incident.
In actuality, Malistaire did not get mad about that. It's never even stated. He turned into a "villain" due to his bad mental state from losing his wife, he did bad things only to get her back
The fact you said the first 15min of the game are free is absolutely wild. It was designed to get to level 10, but as a kid during the recession, I settled with the free trial and grinded the starter zone all the way to lvl 15 to get the new spell. Must have been dozens of hours
33:44 Prospector Zeke has become somewhat of a meme in the Wizard101 community for his uncanny ability to appear at impossible places before the main character player. Many players would joke that he would eventually be the final boss when the game eventually ended.
There is almost no quality content on Pirate101, but if you make a banger video on it. Every remaining player will watch it. They just added additional content which is supposed to "finish" the storyline again. BUT you will 100% have to play through the entire thing to get the content you need. So good luck - at least us Pirates are surprisingly friendly.
Almost no quality content? Heavily disagree lol. I love Wizard101 more and have played it far more, but Pirate101 does so much better than Wiz. Though small correction, the new content isn't meant to finish the storyline. It's the start of Pirate101's second story arc. They're going back to regular full sized updates.
Have fun playing pirates 101. Never got past triton way because my mom refused to pay for wizard 101 AND a club penguin membership during the 08 recession and I cannot justify paying for it when I’ve got 20 games on my steam wishlist. Thanks for showing me the end game :)
As a child (and well before I was diagnosed) I spent many tens of thousands of dollars over the course several years, and focused around manic episodes. Kings Isle* holds a grip over my soul. Let me know if you need anything king 😭
As a life main, I just plowed through MSQ with no effort, and I crafted a specific pvp deck that consists of me bashing my head against the opponent and healing whatever damage I tank. I beat so many players above my level this way because they were so concerned about effect nullification that they forgot to account for regular damage.
Wizard101 was my favourite childhood game man ! Literally no game today comes close to the nostalgic magic this game has, the community is also just as amazing. I'm so happy you did a video on it😭
Oh man, I actually remember when Grizzleheim got implemented, and they had that little freebie as a preview for players of all levels to visit. I was so surprised to discover they just... kept that, until today, long after Grizzleheim was a fresh new thing to explore.
I wanted to say as someone who played wizard101 from childhood up until adulthood, i was waiting for someone to make a long form video on the lore! Even as someone who's played through it a few times, a lot of stuff gets jumbled especially if you're like most people and pick up the game for month long intervals before putting it down and taking breaks. Between pirate101 and wizard101, i enjoyed how cohesive and put together the lore for p101 is and i'd love to see you discuss it! But awesome video truly thank you for doing the story justice.
Along with Nick Jonas, Selena Gomez was also featured in the game a long time ago. She used to be part of the story in Crab Alley and when you beat it you would get a Selena statue. She got removed years ago but my brother still has the statue 💪🏻
she was also there live playing the game for a special event. i remember because while i wasn't actively interested in her playing the game, she was in the commons as i was passing by and she was trying to talk with a bunch of wizards but she kept getting censored and said "I can't say what I want" or something along those lines. it was rather amusing
The fact that Selena Gomez only existed in the game for about a month before they scrubbed her clean from the game, while Nick Jonas has been sitting in Grizzleheim for the past 15 years is really funny
I love the initial naivety from someone who isn’t really a part of the wiz community. Thinking it will be done in about a month, wanting to use zen master blues walkthroughs for finding lore, thinking you *might* want to do the pirate story as well as this (which I think might be easier I didn’t get that far in) I love it so much and I’m only 9 minutes in I’m really hoping I see you in full dragoon gear just to see how far you’ll go
One fun tidbit is that the dean of the dragonspyre academy, Vladimir, actually isn't a spirit. If you look at his model, he is perfectly opaque like any other living person outside of dragonspyre and not transparent like literally every single humanoid in dragonspyre. There are literally spirit humans in the same dungeon so him being alive was intentional. Homeboy legit revived the dragon titan, got everyone in his world murdered, and was chilling alive in a jail cell the entire time and we just let him walk free for some reason lol.
I may be wrong, but I think his dialogue after the battle implies that he attacked you so he'd either escape alive or die by your hand, as either option would grant him release from his endless sentence.
Hey, fun fact about the later worlds, people actually do help you solve their problems, they will “go into battle” with you (give you buffs in battle) but not actually be fighting
Did you know that the starting quiz doesn't actually matter, and the gem you choose at the end is what picks your school? Onyx will always be death, jade will always be life etc. The preceding questions actually don't matter at all but I guess it feels kinda fun
The questions before do actually have an effect, as you will only get offered a small selection of gems to choose from. But the gems are ultimately what picks your school
27:27 - One thing I enjoyed about Wizard101 were the references that no kid in the target audience would get. Zeke's exploration quests include Searching for Smiths, Beetles, Stray Cats, Blue Oysters, Stone Roses, Yardbirds... all names (or close) of bands that would be 'classic rock' to a GenX parent. There are more obscure references too. 'Malistaire' is a reference to Aleister Crowley an occultist from the late 1800s to early 1900s. Alhazred is a reference to the author of the Necronomicon in HP Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos. You might get these references if you grew up in the 'satanic panic' era of the 1980s to early 1990s. There are likely many more references than I encountered or remember.
this video is great bc I don't know about anyone else but when I was a kid and I was playing this, not a single bit was I following a long with the story of this game I think I was just like "I'm a kid wizard there's bad wizard trying to kill me" and that was enough for me. I was playing this just bc it was an mmo and I liked magic.
I wasn't allowed to play online games when I was the intended age for them, so I started to play W101 when I was 16 and almost definitely older than 90% of the player base. I became obsessed and played through all the free content. Now that I have my own money I sort of want to revisit it even though I'm now probably older than 99% of the player base.
Yeah nowadays I feel like the game is actually largely played by adults who played it as a kid who are revisiting it, as opposed to kids! (speaking as a 24 year old who is currently going through Zafaria lol)
I’m gonna stop watching and replay Wizard101 myself. Then I’m gonna come back after completing the campaign and see how much of the lore I can remember.
Mooshu is strange to me because they obviously just took a bunch of East Asian names and concepts (mostly Japanese it seems but also quite a bit of Chinese and from what I’ve seen some Korean) and just…smooshed them together and it keeps giving me whiplash. ….and the cherry on top is that real life Buddhism was started in India.
Ive been playing through this game for the first time for about a year now, and Ive been soloing it as a storm wizard, its been such a blast ❤ love seeing this game getting the attention it deserves ❤ just finished the malistaire arc and moving on to the next!!
love this bc even though i have a collective almost 3000 hours on this game over the course of 16 years, ive never actually paid attention to a single line of dialogue.
I use to play this game when it came out when I was a kid just hanging at my dads work, I was never allowed to buy anything, I always wanted to know how the full story went. thank you so much for doing this🥰💕
"The entire Saga of Wizard101 starts up with little no prologue, one Tuesday afternoon, I was chosen and taken from my lovely little home of Earth and plopt down to the spiral to become a powerful wizard." Oh so wizard 101 is an isekai 😂
Man 7 of those worlds I don’t recognize 😅 when you showed the mini icons of each world in the spiral 🌀. Sometimes I think about trying to finish the game again but then it would mean more time from my life used toward this game
I appreciate this video so much, this game took up a majority of my childhood‼️ 21:08 As far as game mechanics there were ALOT less when I was younger Kingsisle slowly began adding features to captivate and audience that was growing older and venturing to other gaming alternatives. This did affect the structure of the game heavily really sparking its down fall. I could write a book about mistakes made with this game, but at the end of the day it was one of my best childhood experiences‼️
do you ever just listen back to your recorded audio and think how insane you sound? cuz even for me, a diehard wizard101 fan, this sounds absolutely mental like some fever dream! I dont even remember most of the lore but hearing it again sounds insane
I’ve had a small burning flame of curiosity for this ever since I played through all the free content when I was 11, I will always remember being locked out of Firecat Alley Thanks a ton for making this video
Looking back it's kind of insane how much I missed of the story, know cause I was like 6 when I started to play. I couldn't care less about the motivations or backstory of Malastair, or who he was, or what I was doing. My goal was getting to the point where I could use a cool spell to summon a dragon I randomly saw some guy use when I was level 5, and if it ment I had to solve 5 worlds problems and kill a grieving old man then that's what I had to do. Also seeing you unable to beat the game solo was kinda funny, as either they did some funky balance changes in the decade since I played the game last, or you are worse at the funny wizard game then a 6 year old lol
I love the fact that recently I got back into this game a bit recently & all of a sudden a burst of videos are being made for this game opening it up to more people
i had a very similar experience as you, i never played as a child maybe only briefly but i have no nostalgia for this game. i first started in 2021 and have played all though too wallru and i love this game it’s in my top 3 and i’m so glad i played, i love wizard 101 (also a death wizard) loved this video
dude wizard 101 has been like such a heavy interest since i was 8 and now im a whole ass adult and im watching this 😭😭 ty for the effort in this video its insane
10:53 worth mentioning you arent stuck with it, its simply a recommendation and you can pick what class you want anyway. only after you pick your class are you stuck with it. later you can invest into a later 2nd class
I remember giving this game a shot way back in 2010 after starting college. Was a fun way to pass the time in between assignments and art block. I eventually stopped around the time Krysalis was released and haven't gone back since, so it's crazy seeing all these graphical updates. Characters didn't even have talking animations back when I still played. Might give it a shot again because I love the art and visuals.
This video endlessly reminded me that pirate 101 and wizard 101 canonically take place on the same timeline. I just headcanon as a different universe, I mean they don’t. They feel like two different entities except for some characters and game that point out wizard 101 Easter eggs. I’m guessing the biggest clues is with the Armada, as I do, mention, they outlawed magic, but that only applies to voodoo which is the only magic in the world as we know of. They did a wizard 101 crossover with pirates where they are using magic. And some of the worlds are in both games and our story relents in both games.
I’m sure that it was a whole hoot to play and nothing went wrong during the Malistaire fight or any later ones! Also that pumpkin guy in the truck looks really cool!

To this day I still never played but the memories of the commercials will always hold a special place in my heart.
same here always wanted to
I have played this game before. Not enough to recognize the lore.
I tried to play, but the membership thing makes it feel impossible to really enjoy ;(( I so badly want to play this game properly
I played it as a child and it's the ONLY game that made me like and not get bored by card mechanics, too bad it's a micro transaction p2w fiilled hellhole now
@@cryforhelp7270 its like 10$ dawg
It took me way to long to realize grizzleheim is just a Beowulf joke essentially. Beowulf is old English for bee wolf or their word for bear, and grendell is the monster he kills who ransacked the mead hall
The winterbane gauntlet is even more on the nose
The huge stones in grizzleheim all have rune carvings on them that translate to "big bear fort" lmao. When i was super into wizard 101 as a kid I was also hyperfixating on Norse runes and I memorized the futhark alphabet
@@junomonsoonahh it would've been cool if they whent head on with the Beowulf theme and used the Futhorc (English) runic alphabet
I mean they could've there isn't much structural difference between the alphabets just a few different characters

This game used to be a big part of my childhood, second ONLY to Club Penguin, so this video was an absolute blast to watch.
dawg i remember playing wizard 101 when i was a kid and being so pissed because everything was locked behind the membership bs and my mom never got it for me 😭😭
Hey, a short correction- Triton avenue is actually completely free!
@@LunairiumTriton Avenue definitely used to have more to it for free players, I swear you used to fight Lord Nightshade there
But with the reworks it seems you have to go to the other paywalled streets before you can even do that now
@@BassBanj0 I can confirm you used to be able to.
Really changed how I look at him :/
this comment gave me a good laugh, i'm wondering how badly he explained the lore to you 😂😂
Hit em by surprise with questions about specifics in the lore, and his eyes will light up on you, -t another man
Now u gotta go tell him a random tidbit u liked. Like the comment above said watch him light up
He might have Autism
Marleybone is OP. Hated mooshu so much.
I cameoed in this video! You can find me helping in Big Ben at 37:40. Glad I could help, even if only briefly.
That’s awesome 👍🏻 forever immortalized in RUclips
oh man, I remember playing this back in 2010. i was too broke for a subscription and there was no way my parents would pay for one, so i just unlocked the zones in wizard city over the course of months and did the same for crocotopia, but i ended up never finishing the first arc cause my sister snitched on me playing, so i had to stop. this feels like closure now, thanks!
Why does the lore sound so much cooler when u describe it than when playing the game? Also it sounds like this lore could be a sick tv show or movie
The “right after this ad” bit actually worked, I thought it’d me a sponsor but it actually played a youtube ad, you bastard…
same lol
Hey choopo, it would be cool if for a big milestone or as an April Fools video you would do a "The Bizarre Lore of Choopo" where you do a break down of the weird throwaway gags you do in your videos as if they are cannon to a cinnematic multiverse! I also recommend adding some of the more fun fan theories about your lore; like the one where the reason you don't see your pyschiatrist is because his wife is an Italian and the Italian people are still hunting you down after the pasta breaking incident.
Choopo hate multiverse. But it would be fun it he have one.

@@davidhong1934I can see that bit playing out like elmo hating rocco
In actuality, Malistaire did not get mad about that. It's never even stated. He turned into a "villain" due to his bad mental state from losing his wife, he did bad things only to get her back
Wait really?😂 I thought he became evil after his wife passed
Are you serious, they actually added story content???
Unlike Wizard101, Pirate101 has only 1 arc Avatar-style. Except we don’t get any closure.
Almost no quality content? Heavily disagree lol. I love Wizard101 more and have played it far more, but Pirate101 does so much better than Wiz. Though small correction, the new content isn't meant to finish the storyline. It's the start of Pirate101's second story arc. They're going back to regular full sized updates.
you guys really pay monthly for this stuff?

0:06 AYYYYYY CHOOPO IS NOW ANIMATED AND IT LOOKS SO AMAZING AND INCREDIBLE!
9:33 hearing this threw me back to my childhood
There was also a portrait I think :0
she was also there live playing the game for a special event. i remember because while i wasn't actively interested in her playing the game, she was in the commons as i was passing by and she was trying to talk with a bunch of wizards but she kept getting censored and said "I can't say what I want" or something along those lines. it was rather amusing
The fact that Selena Gomez only existed in the game for about a month before they scrubbed her clean from the game, while Nick Jonas has been sitting in Grizzleheim for the past 15 years is really funny
@@xRaiofSunshine you’re right I forgot about that. The good old days.

I love the initial naivety from someone who isn’t really a part of the wiz community. Thinking it will be done in about a month, wanting to use zen master blues walkthroughs for finding lore, thinking you *might* want to do the pirate story as well as this (which I think might be easier I didn’t get that far in) I love it so much and I’m only 9 minutes in I’m really hoping I see you in full dragoon gear just to see how far you’ll go
The zenmasterblue walkthrough is such a legendary piece of media. I hope it stays as long as I'm alive.
dragoon? msm reference🤯
26:57 You’re wild for keeping this burp in
Hey, fun fact about the later worlds, people actually do help you solve their problems, they will “go into battle” with you (give you buffs in battle) but not actually be fighting
Did you know that the starting quiz doesn't actually matter, and the gem you choose at the end is what picks your school? Onyx will always be death, jade will always be life etc. The preceding questions actually don't matter at all but I guess it feels kinda fun
If I actually played this game, that fact would upset me lmao

I was playing this just bc it was an mmo and I liked magic.
also I was more of a pirate 101 kidd
48:00 As a life wizard, I can confirm that the death school isn't the only one to make you face Freddy Nine Lives.
This is clearly your current magnum opus. I hope to see the contact continue to grow as it has over the past year.
I wasn't allowed to play online games when I was the intended age for them, so I started to play W101 when I was 16 and almost definitely older than 90% of the player base. I became obsessed and played through all the free content. Now that I have my own money I sort of want to revisit it even though I'm now probably older than 99% of the player base.
you'd be surprised! ik that at least for animal jam (my childhood game of choice) most of the playerbase is at least 16+
the average player is in their early 20s
lol most of the players, the overwhelming majority of them are over 21 now. Its all adults, id say very few kids nowadays.
Yeah nowadays I feel like the game is actually largely played by adults who played it as a kid who are revisiting it, as opposed to kids! (speaking as a 24 year old who is currently going through Zafaria lol)
I'm 25, been playing since I was 12 and still play lol. A lot of the player base grew up with the game! I don't meet too many younger kids anymore lol
I’ve played since 09, and the way Choo explained the first arc only scratches the surface of how bizarre the entire storyline is. 😂
I’m gonna stop watching and replay Wizard101 myself. Then I’m gonna come back after completing the campaign and see how much of the lore I can remember.
Good luck
See ya in a few months 🎉
i wish i had this type of time
Never clicked on a video faster. 1 hour of wizard 101 lore? A four course meal for me, thank you sir
This is just part 1. More will come later
It's even better when you already have the lore scarred in your brain. Watching this recap of it is hilarious.
this is one of the best games I’ve ever played. not graphic wise & story wise it’s just a calming game for me.

Mooshu is strange to me because they obviously just took a bunch of East Asian names and concepts (mostly Japanese it seems but also quite a bit of Chinese and from what I’ve seen some Korean) and just…smooshed them together and it keeps giving me whiplash.

"The entire Saga of Wizard101 starts up with little no prologue, one Tuesday afternoon, I was chosen and taken from my lovely little home of Earth and plopt down to the spiral to become a powerful wizard."
Oh so wizard 101 is an isekai 😂
They also completely ignore the fact that you got Isekaid until someone brings it up as a major plot point 130ish levels later lol
Pirate101's lore is more simple and is still going into a new arc, currently arc 2. Hope that'll be covered in the future.
Man 7 of those worlds I don’t recognize 😅 when you showed the mini icons of each world in the spiral 🌀. Sometimes I think about trying to finish the game again but then it would mean more time from my life used toward this game
I appreciate this video so much, this game took up a majority of my childhood‼️
21:08 As far as game mechanics there were ALOT less when I was younger Kingsisle slowly began adding features to captivate and audience that was growing older and venturing to other gaming alternatives.
Finally, lore that I have little to no knowledge about, thank you newly-appointed Wizard Choopo

Thanks a ton for making this video
Hopefully after this trilogy we can get a "The Bizarre Lore of Pirates of the Caribbean Online (now technically TLOPO)" Video someday
This game was such a massively important part of my childhood, I loved it so much. my mother paid for that subscription for so damn long lol

I wasn't expecting for this game about wizards to tackle British colonialism
He didn’t even get to the world that talks about the intricacies of religion and blind faith
Colonialism is actually the main plot point of one of the later worlds lol
Colonization is extremely prevalent in W101 lore for some reason , even after the Malistaire arc. Wizards and their colonization amirite.
I’m sure that it was a whole hoot to play and nothing went wrong during the Malistaire fight or any later ones! Also that pumpkin guy in the truck looks really cool!
