Golf Show Episode 10 | £18.99 Driver - Would you? | Golf Show

- Hi!
Welcome to episode 10 of the Golf Show.
This week on the Golf Show Paul tries out a Driver that costs less than £20 ($27) - the steel shafted Slazenger V300.
He compares it to his beloved PXG 0811XF and uses a Garmin G80 Approach launch monitor to help assess the results.
The point of the test wasn't to see if the Slazenger could beat a club nearly 30 times more expensive, it was to see if a beginner could have fun with the Slazenger. Could it be an inexpensive way to get into golf, or would you be better of buying something second-hand on eBay where there are always plenty of options?
...does the Slazenger even survive the test???

I've just recently taking an interest in golf and bought this driver. Was at range today for my 4th time ever since starting few weeks ago and this was my 2nd time using the v300. I hit 256 just off line and 247 perfect.
Awesome. This driver is great to start off with. 👍
I started off with donnay clubs back in the day you are right the golf snob in people won’t buy it but to start off with why not
Bought a graphite shaft version of this driver as a friend gifted me a set of clubs but I needed a driver. I used to play a lot when I was younger and played my first game after 16 years out of the game a few weeks ago. Going again at the end of the month and hope this driver will help me get back into the game. No need spending 100s of £££ when just starting out a hobby. Once I improve my game I can look at upgrading my clubs!
Great video and nice to see the comparison between a premium driver and this cheap club is not a huge difference in it really!
Hi Henry. Thanks for your comment and great to hear you are getting back into golf.
I agree don’t spend loads at first. Then eBay is a good way to get lower priced equipment, although beware of fakes.
Cheers Paul
I work as an aerodynamics engineer at Bristol university and I can assure you that because you kept the price label on this will have greatly influenced your results. Not a fair test sadly.
Thinking about buying it to go with the rest of my v300 set
Might as well give it a go 👍🏼👍🏼
19 quid and you're spanking it twenty yards shorter than a premium driver. You could probably buy 20 of those for the price of your PXG. Looked a lot of fun. Even though it's great value I'd struggle to put it in play for the same reason as you stated.
Was great fun Kevin. It was difficult to control and I felt myself changing things in my swing to try to accommodate it. I’ll still with the PXG for now 😂
Want to get into golf and debating whether to just start with this, don't feel I'd be any good but need a new hobby to get me out
Hi Alex. You can have fun for sure with this. I’d recommend you look for a package half-set where you get a driver a hybrid, 3 or 4 irons (say a 7, 9 and wedge) a putter and a bag and go from there
Try eBay.
If you see anything and aren’t sure message me on here or on Instagram @golf_show_official and I’ll be happy to advise 👍
Thats the driver I got, only went driving range about 15 times but went for my first 18 holes ever I finished 51+ , which is bad I know but really want to go again and improve, always played football but with bad knees and problems with my bones in my feet , I really want to take up golf as my new hobby:) good vid
Hi George
If you enjoyed it and it got you out on the golf course there is nothing wrong with that !
The guys on TV are like 0.1 of real golfers, don’t let how easy they make this crazy game look
Go swing your swing 👍
Thanks for the comment, I’m glad you enjoyed the episode
Looks like Crossland Heath there Paul? Chris/Adams 'Tour Bus' in the background 😉
Sure is Kent👍🏼. I wanted a driving range that was long enough for the Slazenger at full speed 😂
@@GolfShow Yeah, I love Crossland Heaths practise area. I used to go there for lessons with our Scratch Team when 'Fresh' was the Head Professional, before his move to Woodsome Hall...somewhere you may want to visit? Fresh has a SAM PuttLab as well as the indoor facilities similar to what Guy has at Fulford, interview for your show maybe??? 🤔🤔🤔
@@KentnDebi sounds great Kent. Thank you. I’ll have to get you to hook me up buddy 👍🏼
@@GolfShow You'd likely be better going through Chris, as he was a Junior at Crossland Heath when John was the Pro there.
I've not had a lesson with him for at least 20 years. Although one of my Daughters had Yorkshire Girls coaching with him and so did Debi but that's possibly ten years ago. I doubt very much whether he'd remember me 😔
Just done a quick Google on Fresh...He's doing PuttingZone now so it could very well be of interest to you and your viewers? I'll get my coat 😉
Tell them it cost £250 and it would be sold out in a day.....
Love it. You’re not wrong
Just used the driver yesterday down my local driving range and for a beginner (with minimum experience) I must say I am very pleased with its performance. 👍👍
Hi Mason. That’s great. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. Hope you enjoy your golfing journey 👍🏼
These test always make me laugh, so many people look down on other with cheaper stuff, golf clubs are tools and just another part to the game. Beginners aren't going to go out and pick up £400 drivers and so on. Maybe do a test of all drivers aimed at beginners.
For the price I think it performed well.
Snobbery can be a hindering, it also gets shut up when you drive the ball a mere 10 metres less than an 18x more expensive driver.
Hi Adam. Thanks for your message. I agree. I do think that over time a player would be less consistent with the Slazenger, but it was fun to hit and review and I’m sure it will make an appearance or two again on the show. Thanks for your support 👍
I think most of guys like yourself don’t give these low priced clubs a good test. With the Slazenger you only really hit it well a couple of shots and given the shorter shaft and not fit to you it did very well. At 1/ 29 the. price of your driver you can’t complain and I wouldn’t be ashamed to show up with the cheap club in my bag.
Hi Sandra.
Thanks for watching the episode and for your feedback.
As I said in the episode I think that this club is OK for someone taking up golf or just wanting to hit balls at a range. However, if you were starting to play more often you would be better served (in terms of forgiveness, playability and durability) by buying a second hand club that is say 5 years old and more akin to the current style of drivers from today.
Thank you for taking the time to comment. Regards Paul
