Once again thank you for investigating my email/concern about the F9 S. I can live with 10 yards at the moment as a new golfer
Appreciate the shoutout mate and enlightening review pal! 😃
Thanks mate! Keep doing your thing!
Way to go Simon! Thank you Rick for doing this video
Golfing community at its best.❤⛳👍😉
Simon needs to be on a podcast as over half of people who responded to your question would buy secondhand
Watched your original video Simon and thought it was naughty of Cobra. Props to Rick for taking up the story and doing such an impartial honest assesment and highlighting the 'issue' to a wider audiance cause im sure a few people have been dupped.
It’s integrity like this that makes Rick the best at what he does. It would be very easy to pander to the big brands and not rock the boat but honesty and trust is priceless.
Yeah and Rick is massive online. I’m sure it’s Cobra doing damage control as we speak.
Massive shout out to @sasgolf who took this to task first and to @rick for taking up the baton. Simon did get bullied into taking down his first video but great collaboration guys 👏
Mizuno
I bought this driver fully thinking it was the original one, and I bought it after watching rick's review of the original one. I feel swindled, hustled, taken the piss out of. Gonna try to get my money back but I have 0 hope of actually getting it.
Speaking of integrity, has he ever given away any of the equipment for the contests ?
This is why I love that you don't partner with brands. You're so honest and show no gear of potentially upsetting brands through your honest reviews. 100% integrity and that's what we love about your channel and the pod.
Great Video, I really wish you would have also tested it with the stock shaft that comes with the new "S" Driver. Would of been nice to see how it would perform. I think we know what the "S" stands for now after your review.

Same here
Yes, the “s” stands for poopy 💩!
I agree, good piece of detective work. But to be fair to Cobra, wasn't tested with the shaft its being sold with.
Stands for shite
It's crazy how such a small change can have a big difference. Even the ball flight looked off. Thank you for the knowledge
The "was £379" sticker on the club is blatantly fraudulent and illegal. That F9s was NEVER £379 and was only on sale for £249 at Clubhouse golf. They should be ashamed of themselves for trying to con golfers who can't afford brand new top of the line drivers. If they want to bring out a cheaper driver, brand it that way. we're not mugs.
It doesn't speak very well for Rick's retailer.
Right. Made a comment earlier that in my opinion they had too many grips and shafts and and a certain amount of the mill face. just made a cheaper version and try to sell it as a top line model
Man here’s me thinking I made a super deal last summer but watching this makes me feel scammed, always loved Cobra but they did me dirty here
Yup. Think trading standards is you have to be selling at the higher price for 3 months? Blatantly taking advantage of shoppers.
I'm abit disappointed in clubhouse golf have used them for a few years now and have bought 2 sets of irons in them years, don't get me wrong they are ligit but it is concerning that if I walked into store I would of seen that driver at a was £379 reduced to £249 and thought I was getting a bargain.thanks to Simon and Rick for highlighting these drivers
Appreciate the heads up on the differences between these two drivers, thanks Rick! Also happy that you're starting to list prices in USD too...I know it's not super difficult to go look up the conversion, but it's great that you just put it up there now next to pounds. Cheers!
I have no problem with company's reissuing equipment lines at lower costs, but they must tell us if it's different in any way to the original.

I'd love for Rick to do the same with American golf and the Taylormade M2. They have an SMU of that too. Would be interesting to see if that is also a con.
This is absolutely disgusting, like golfers don't spend enough, I'm shocked
This.
The price usually helps lol… Example…. Golf balls lol
It would’ve been great to see the F9S perform with its own shaft. But thanks so much for keeping us tuned in. Superb
Simon @ SAS GOLF well worth the sub - quality channel 🔥
Thanks Simon
Thank you Rick, this is one of the big reasons why I love your channel, YOU'RE HONEST.... no matter what. I appreciate that.

Great job bringing this up SAS Golf! Simon is an awesome follow!
Credit goes where credit is due ! Good work Rick !
Bait and switch has been around for centuries. It is now part of golf! All the golf ball manufacturers due it every year. Is there any real difference, noticeable to a 15 handicap, in this years Prov1 compared to last year? I don’t think so. Some of your have shown that the average golfer can play and enjoy the game using either second hand, used clubs, or brand new package sets..I’m going back to my Ben Hogan Apex irons, 1973 edition, and persimmon driver. It’s time to enjoy the game we love and stop listening to all the hype. It’s golf! Thanks for all your fantastic work, insights and posts.
Great work Rick and Simon, also you had a better shaft in the F9S for this test compared to what you get as standard so the actual F9S performance out of the shop is likely to be even worse. The helium shaft is a substandard product in comparison.
Absolutely right!! I think if he wouldve used it with the Helium shaft, carry distance would never had gotten past 230.
Just to quash a bit of Misinformation here, a real UST Helium is an extremely high quality lightweight golf shaft. If the shaft in the F9S is a “made for” then your not comparing the same shaft
@@JSGolfer thanks for that info, I would be surprised if Cobra were putting an extremely high quality shaft into a budget version of the club though……🤔
Just to play devil's advocate, the S did give consistent numbers 270 carry 2500 spin . Maybe the difference would be less for a 18 handicap club golfer ??
@@mikecooke2357 Mike, I think that’s a fair point; I don’t have an issue with Cobra selling a cheaper driver, I think the issue here is the effort they have gone to to give the impression it is an F9 plus the retailer putting a “Was £379” sticker on there when it clearly never was!!
A couple of thoughts: (1) I'd be interested to see how the F9S does with the original shaft and (2) is there a 9 degree F9S model (I'm not sure I trust that dialing down the loft of a 10.5 degree driver is the same as using a 9 degree driver).
I was thinking the same thing about the lofts
It has "usually" been shown over the years and many videos that knocking down the loft on a 10.5° head to 9° is not the same as having 2 9° heads go at it. The 10.5 head reduced will likely still spin more. Not a fair fight.
That being said, shame on you Cobra for the deception!
Dialling up or down the club head doesn't actually change the loft it actually just changes face and lie angle to create lower or higher launch conditions,
but can badly effect spin axis and actually have the opposite of the desired effect especially if your changing loft to try open and close the face
This comment needs more up votes. Seems like a questionable variable.
@@lorneg.thompson5328 on the other hand everything is going more left with the S even though the head should be more open with the loft turned down.
Well this is timely… I was seriously considering buying this online after your recent comments about picking up an older driver and recommending the F9 as great option (on the podcast I believe?). I was surprised to see it still available to buy brand new, but luckily hadn’t purchased yet.
Thanks for the info Rick - you’ve saved me from making a big mistake!
Really appreciate your work, Rick! No matter what anyone says….you are the one to watch for honest, unbiased reviews on RUclips. Thanks again! 🙏👍😊
Really interesting video, my only thought, because the F9 was 9 degrees standard and you had to adjust the F9S to get down to 9, perhaps the delofting changed the face angle (I.e open vs closed) which can impact delivered loft even if the static loft is “the same”.
Not sure that accounts for 600 RpM and 10 yards consistently though.
My thoughts exactly. I still wouldn't think it would be THAT different to be 10 yards but it's not comparing apples to apples when you have a true 9 deg head vs a 10.5 deg head adjusted down.
Great comment. Loft sleeves effect the face angle more so than loft. Unless he’s perfectly squaring the face back up at address will it actually play at the lower loft. Most people don’t re set the face so my guess is he just had a bit of an open face with the S model. Too much loft. Which explains the slower ball speed and more spin.
Would be interesting to see like 5 shot of each head with 9 and 10,5 degrees.. and see some average numbers.
I know going down to 9° does change the face to probably 3° or 4° open so it’s quite the difference.
it might also be interesting to compare the 9 degree adjusted up to 10.5 degree
This video came about 6 months too late for me 😭. My wife bought me one for my 40th last July. I've barely used to due to an injury so had no clue it wasn't the original F9 that Rick had been raving about a couple of years ago. I just ran out to the garage to confirm but I knew as soon as Rick said about the different headcover. Pretty gutted to be honest, I've been waiting about 10 years to get a decent driver. It's going to annoy me every time I pull the bloody thing out my bag now...
I won't tell the misses as she'll feel bad. Disappointing that Cobra feel the need to dupe people to turn a profit.
Great review Rick....and shout out to SAS golf for bringing this up. Very deceiving from whoever brought up this Driver . Glad you guys are doing this.
Had the exact same problem with a f9s 3 wood a few months back. Well done for calling out cobra and the retailers - (I purchased mine from Clubhouse golf in Manchester) It's sly at best.
It’s the Driver that was included in the F9 complete set as well I believe. TaylorMade also brought back the M4 last year, similar story, clearing out extra components maybe.
You're correct. I bought the Cobra F9 complete set in 2020 (from Golf Town in Canada) and my driver face is the same as the F9 S. Had no idea my driver wasn't the actual F9 until watching this video.
Love the honest reviews rick keep em coming!
It may have been suggested already, but I’d be curious to see a head to head with the original F9 in a turned down 10.5° head. Cobra did make it known that their 10.5° head on the F9 was a higher spin setup vs the 9° head, regardless of where you dial the loft sleeve to play. Still expecting original F9 to win out on ball speed with that CNC face, but I’d guess spin numbers come closer
Good on you Rick for pointing this out.
Consequently, the original F9 (2019) can most likely be purchased used for around the same price, which is something you recently advocated for, and clearly has better performance. SO many of us appreciate you always looking out for other golfers.
Great explanation for me lacking a minimum of 10 yards on my driver. 😄 I bought the F9-S as my driver for the last season as it was marked down from 4.000 NOK to 2799 NOK. So i paid about 232 Pounds in Norway. I like the driver, but wasn't aware the differences! Now if you'll excuse me, I will drive to my retailer and smash his head in with my F9-S.
buy the Speedzone, amazing driver.
I'm only half way through this video and I'm already pissed off...
Thanks Rick, channel like yours and SAS are great voice for consumer
A 10.5 head turned down will give different numbers to a standard 9 degree head especially on spin.
Not from all my testing over the years it wouldn't. Even if it did (Which I don't believe it does) it would not account for such a difference in spin, ball speed and feel / sound.
I'm not so sure but still think 2 9 degree heads would have shown closer spin results. Either way nice to see the big brands being called out for this type of thing.
Thanks for supporting Simon at SAS on this one, great guy and he is my second favourite golf channel.....
This makes you wonder.
This might have been the first time a big brand has been caught doing this with an SMU product that is inferior to the previous iteration.
I wonder if this has happened in the past and just has never been found before.
They did the same thing with the AMP Cell S. I still game it but it's a completely different club to the original AMP Cell.
Love this for Simon and his SAS Golf channel. Great content there too. Kudos for shouting him out Rick!
Awesome video Rick, would love to see a another review comparing two heads of the same brand but in different lofts, specifically I’m really curious what the results are when you use the loft sleeve to match the lofts like you did in this video. Is it possible that’s partially responsible for the increase in spin? Thanks again!!!
Again Rick….you are my trusted go to for gear info….thx.
Always good to know. Wonder how many purchased the S and had no idea. Just thought they were getting a great deal

Me ✋🏻 🤦🏻♂️
Me...I'm absolutely fuming, I've bought clubs from them for years this is a disgrace
@@jamesgoss2357 email them, demand a refund, it's been taken off the site
@@Align500pro I’ve contacted them 5 times since 28th January and been told the director is dealing with the matter and to wait for him to contact me which he hasn’t yet, I’ve also spoken to cobra who basically are not interested, they said they only supply the equipment to the retailers
Thanks for doing this. Would have never know. Would have like to see a few strikes with the sold shaft. Also the 9 degree head vs 10 degree head diffence.
Well Rick great video…here the thing the F9 was a 9* head vs the F9s was a 10.5 ..both were set at 9..but does the 10.5 set to a 9..really a 9?
No and it changes the face angle when doing so.
Exactly. Not to mention, you’re hoping that both clubs were digitally lofted and are actually the lofts they claim. That 9 could be 8.6° and the 10.5 could be 11. Turning a 10.5 down to 9 doesn’t make it a 9, it’s still a 10.5 but you’re just delivering a different loft at impact. If Rick could actually get a 9° F9S I would be interested in seeing the data.
Don’t have much to add except love your videos. Thanks bro!
Thanks for this Rick. I've used Clubhouse golf for £1000s worth of stuff over the years. They're just down the road. Don't think I'll bother with them anymore! Very naughty.

I bought a Cobra F9 a couple years ago based on a Rick Shiels review. I love it.
Thanks for making everyone aware, Rick! Great video once again.
No worries!
Youre review helped me decide on the F9 a couple of years ago, and it's been one of the best drivers I've ever played. The milling on the face is so awesome.
Good comparison video Rick but would of liked to see how much different it was aswel with the stock shaft it comes in for you would this of made even more difference?
I did hit some off camera, but its kind of pointless as the shaft was too soft for me.
Same.
@@RickShielsPGA fair enough thanks for the response have a great day
@@RickShielsPGA You're forgetting that Martin Borgmeier uses a regular flex 😂😂
I have not been playing as much as before and honestly have not been able to upgrade equipment. But I surely ENJOY watching your reviews as it is an eye opener and extremely informative. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for the helpful insight Rick. Question - I bought the F9S irons - is there a difference between the f9 and f9s irons? The only difference I am noticing is that there is no arcoss, and it came in 5i-GW instead of 4i-GW, but the shaft (KBS tour 90) and heads seem to be identical. Any input? Is it only the woods/driver that are different?
With the driver there's no arcoss to cut down cost so it's probably the same thing with the irons

Thanks a ton for the heads up.
Great review! The only additional testing variable I would like to have seen would be to put the F9S head at 9° in the original shaft. I suspect the dispersion would have been greater and the loss of distance would have been even more noticeable compared to a real F9.
I would think that the S head in 9* would actually preform just as good as the standard 9* head since he used a 10.5* head that naturally spins more AND he lowered the loft down 1.5* which also additionally adds more spin.
Thanks Rick for the heads up. Great review.
Curious to know if you tried the F9 S with the stock UST shaft at all? I’m sure the shaft specs are different weight and torque when compared to the Hazardus shaft... Big golf fan of your channel from 🇨🇦 Cheers!
Great review and a big shout out to SAS golf for bringing this to our attention. Everyone should give Simon a follow, especially for any golfer buying secondhand golf equipment.
Would be interested in hearing Cobra’s rational for going forward with this somewhat questionable product. Definitely not a good look for Cobra, they were on a roll, not now.
Probbaly much cheaper to make and had the same or more gross profit in it, riding the coat tails of the original F9.
I found a new F9 with CNC face with a Helium senior shaft and Arcos on line. Just hit some golf balls today and love it. I'm going to try the shaft that came on my LTDx and see how it feels. The F9 staying in the bag. I'm about to order another one to save when the other is done. Thanks for the video on the club.
I bought the original F9 in 2020 because I saw you using it on your channel. I also have the 3/4 wood and love it

Really glad you did this review and I'm surprised there was that much difference! Great info from sas golf too. Love his channel. Cheers Rick.
I bought this driver over the winter, on sale BTW, for different reasons than wanting an F9 in the bag. I'm 65 with back problems and have been using a Callaway XR16 w/Fujikura Speeder 565 Evolution shaft (S flex). This has has been an excellent club for me with average distance of 255, using either a Callaway Supersoft or Titleist Tru Feel. I found I was having to swing too hard to get the optimum results so went searching for alternatives. In the simulator, the F9S was giving me a consistent ball flight with average distance of 245. Yes, a little less but more importantly for me, less effort for similar results. Another reason... no CNC face. I read articles that mentioned the CNC face can cause damage to the ball on mishits, due to the ridge around the perimeter of the club to accommodate the CNC insert. I'm not concerned about the difference in sound, or a 10 yard difference, or some fancy do-dad missing from the grip. I am an amateur golfer playing 30 to 40 rounds a season. I need a club that's not going to injure me every time I swing it, a club that is dependable and reliable, and a club that puts me good second shot position. That's what should matter. Also, with all the equipment that available to golfers, it behooves every one of us to research and learn about what's out there. There should be no surprises anymore. I'm looking forward to putting this club to work, come spring.
Thanks!! I will purchase one now that I’ve tried the others.
Thanks for testing this out Rick! I have a F9 's' driver and I emailed you about it last year. It's cool to see you finally put it to the test!
Well done on a well presented exposé
I really liked the circle graphics used for comparing the distance and slims numbers. It helped show how much difference there was between the two clubs
Thank You for a great review and warning.
Man.. Rick, you're profesionalisme are at another level for 2022. Great one 👍👍
Coming from someone who played slowpitch softball on a highly competitive level, the same can be said for certain bats when a Reissuse Model comes out. Never as hot as the original and seems to fall short. The companies brings back nostalgia as a selling point without the same performance. Not only that but manufacturers made a couple bats for specific stores. Bow manufacturers do this as well with bows
I got my F9 in 2020 when they had introduced the Speedzone. Got a new one for $249 U.S. I love it. People spend up to $500 every year on a new driver for a minimal increase in distance. Spend your money on a club that you will use every hole, get a good putter!
Great video Rick and thanks to SAS golf
I agree with @Keith Lakes, would have been interesting to try it with its own shaft
Brilliant review very well tested and it's great that you always get to the bottom of things keep it up Rick love the videos. ❤️👍
Great job. Still smashing my original F9 driver and F7 3 wood. They are staying in the bag for 2022.
Spot on Rick. The reason the tag said 379 and sale price of 249 is an old retail trick. Make you think you are getting a bargain. Oh, I saw one of your videos regarding the Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo driver, so I went and tried it out. I replaced an older Taylormade driver I had for many years. I found at age 60 and with a bad back, I could not get it out any further than 180 mts with my best hit. Average was more like 165 mts. So I took your advice, bought the Cleveland and now hitting 200+ more often than not and hitting more fairways again. So forgiving and just so nice to use. Best driver I have ever had. So thank you for your advice, and I would advise others looking for a new driver to listen to you. Cheers from Australia Mate. 👍😊
Thank you for your reviews they really help
Totally agree I bought one of these from the same store unaware of the "s" part didn't notice the face being different until I had unwrapped it and hit some balls the store then refused to take it back as it was now used. Cobra golf website was no help with no mention anywhere of an S version. I still use this driver but would think twice about buying anything from them again !
Similar story for me with the AMP Cell S. Cobra has been doing this cheeky stuff for a few years now.
Thanks so much for this review. My local golf shop was getting reviews saying they were selling knock off clubs. People need to do their homework...
I'm sure that the speedzone I have just bought online has had the same treatment!...No infinity logo on the face..wish I had seen this video before I purchased keep up the great work.
Well… I bought this not knowing the differences. And I did find it odd that I found it brand new as well. The upside to this for me. Is I just started playing summer of 2021. So my game is far from feeling disappointed I bought this. However, as my game improves. I will definitely do my research a little more as far as finding an highly recommended/older model brand new. Love the review! Thanks Rick!
Good on you Rick 👍 I've seen them in South African retail stores as well. Appreciate the fact check 👍
Well done. Thank you and SAS for the reveal.
Great video rick, love how honest your reviews are, not all heroes wear capes, well played sir 👏🏻

Love my Cobra F9. Bought it in 2020 and I can’t believe how long it is!
Rick, this is why we subscribe and like. Don’t ever let them buy you out. Keep it real!
Thanks Rick! This was an eye opener....
I just love the way you took up the cause, and mentioned SAS as well, good on you Rick. Your honesty is why I love your reviews and naughty might be an understatement. You actually looked like you were throwing yourself off your feet a couple of times to try to get the "S" to at least get close, can't be fairer than that
God review. Thanks to you, Simon, and others for pointing this out. Buyers of “S” are getting deceived by the driver head and also getting a shaft that isn’t optimized.
Ping, Calloway, Mizuno have good products, they don’t do this deceptive crap, and they wait a couple years before coming out with a new model that makes yours obsolete.
This channel is the reason I played and STILL play cobra, but still can’t remember it being that loud. Wow!
Awesome as usual Rick. Love the videos.
Bought my F9 used at the beginning of 2020 for $180 USD. Today, two years later, the price of a used F9 remains the same due to the pandemic surge in golf.
To think that Cobra is trying to sell a "new" (worse) version of this F9"S" for slightly more than the used F9 (2019) drivers is upsetting. This move by Cobra takes advantage of the pandemic golfer who wasn't even playing golf yet when the original F9 was released. Without this kind of info from RS they'd never know the difference.
Thank you Rick for doing the people's work!
