Arya's arc was about her letting go of her anger and her quest for revenge. The Hound tells her, this quest is going to get you killed. She sees where its brought her and decides in that moment with Sandor that this quest will be the death of her.

Sorry but I think Jon is a dense character. He didn't have any growth in 8 season, he didn't learn from Ned Stark's mistakes, he wasn't able to keep an explosive secret a little bit longer, at least until after the end of the war. Ned didn't talk about Jon's parentage to anyone, not even to his most beloved wife. Despite being the most honorable man in Westeros, he accepted to look like a cheater in his family's eyes. So why would Jon spill the beans so fast? This to me means that either the character is totally stupid or the writers didn't know how to make the story advance if not by using this escamotage.
By the way, I'm enjoying this format. It's nice to see your points of view all in one video. :)

Blame the writers, they did something like this again in this episode to advance with this plot, this time with Dany going crazy over the bells, that shot made no sense.

Jon Snow is an absolute moron. He cares more about his personal honor than the lives of innocents. Which means he's not truly honorable at all. Jamie Lannister, for all his faults, at least put his honor aside to take out the Mad King. He dishonored himself on a personal level to save the realm. And then he turned into an irredeemable douchbag, but that's neither here nor there. I honestly hope SOMEBODY calls out Jon Snow on his obtuse and ridiculous Lawful Stupid paladin BS before the end of the last episode. With this writing team, however, I don't see that happening. They obviously think Jon Snow's actions are justifiable and completely above reproach. It's those crazy unpredictable women we gotta watch out for! I think it's safe to say that I won't be eagerly anticipating this creative team's next project.

Far and away the worst episode of the entire show. Pure awful. I am at the point now that I ALMOST wish I'd not started watching the show. So bad... The writing on this RUclips episode is better than this GoT episode's and you guys put it together in a couple hours. Thank God for the books. George had better give us a better ending than this...

The Golden Company were always chumps. For fuck's sake, they're called "The Golden Company." Think about the best soldiers in Game of Thrones: Would Bronn ever work for people who called themselves the Golden Company? Would the Hound? They'd have taken one look at these douches in their fancy armor--not a scratch on any of it, you'll notice--and made the diagnosis right then and there: "Bunch of twats."

Once they started ringing the bells, I kindof thought Dany would stop, since she had said before that she doesn't want to be Queen of the Ashes, plus Tyrion told her to stop once they ring the bells. If she wasn't stopping at that point, I thought she would go straight to the Red Keep to kill Cersei etc, but then I started getting worried she would kill Arya and the Hound. Once everyone continued fighting after the Bells (because of Dany), Jon didn't like that and it prob made him see that she wouldn't be a great Queen, if she'd kill innocents.

Danny has been a nutter ever since the Dragons were born, self righteous, self obsessed, I am the queen, I am the queen, I will take the seven kingdoms, it is rightfully mine, she is the same in the books, anyone who has to say the are the king/queen is no real king/queen

    THANK YOU!
I'm with you on this (the whole season I'm anrgy about THIS): All powerful women are shown as crazy...yeah...sure...women who show their strengh are crazy...saw a perfect meme for this. Dany ist shown on it, when Jon told her "When you spend all your life working towards your goal and a dude gets the job because...he's a dude" - nailed it!

    • @schranzingrid
      @schranzingrid 5 лет назад

What I want to say: yeah it's crazy what Dany did. But first of all, in my opinion out of character...I mean she challenge the whole Khalasar and lost her husband when telling them not to rape and kill women of their enemies as a "price" - same she did with the ironborn and so on... and then episode 5? Really? She would have burned Cersei...AND it is NOT crazy to kill Varys at this point and for what he was clearly doing! And Tyrion too. It's really not logic for her, wanting revenge and all, specific against Kingslanding? Why against the people living there??? She hates Cersei...why the PEOPLE in Kingslanding? Why not letting the Unsullied go into the red keep(all soldiers had surrendered) and get Cersei and dann cruel kill her? That sounds more like rage revenge than killing, just for killing someone...and it's not the same as she did with the Khals: it has been ONLY the Khals she killed and that only because they wanted to do awful things with her and stop her living cause her husband died, so she as a women should act like dead too?
What's another stupid, no, actually sick move, which we have seen last episode (4) - which can only be written by cruel MEN: Sansa beeing thankful for beeing raped and tortured by Ramsay, cause "she wouldn't be as strong as she is, without expierencing it"---really??? That's the bad writing of female characters we always complain about: RAPE DOES NOT MAKE YOU STRONGER! ONLY IF YOU ARE STRONG (and/or lucky), YOU SURVIVE IT! BUT EVERYONE WOULD BE STRONGER WITHOUT EXPIERENCING IT, CAUSE SURVIVING CONSUMES STRENGH.
      Now I'm done for today.

I agree with sandrine the the whole plot device with the women getting overly emotional and the here comes Jon the rightful heir to take his place lol it's total bullshit. I just hate how they're completely changing who the characters are on the fundamental level, all of a sudden. Like you want to put Jon on the throne fine, but why does Dany have to go crazy and why does Cersei have to turn into a idiot for you to do it smh

  • @TheCilou6

Loved this review. You voice so much of my disappointment and bewilderment concerning the massive bs that GoT has become.
The OP scorpions of the Iron fleet are useless bows and arrows this time.
Dany didn't see the ships while flying RIGHT ABOVE THEM last episode, and suddenly, Drogo Ninja flips around all the spears. (he probably found Morgan's sunglasses (nad yes, this is a Chuck reference)).
Also; Drogo can erase a complete castle with his fire. Soooo OP!
The red Keep crumbling down on fire had me have some reminiscences of what happened lately at Notre-Dame de Paris (being French, I'm maybe more sensitive to the point).
Also, Arya is the luckiest-est person on the universe : everybody around her get burnt or crushed but she's okay, lil' bit dusty but mostly OK.
I love the passive agressive tone of some of your comments. I feel like you are as pissed as I am with what they've done with our pet show but you make fun of it, and therefore make it fun. Thank you for that, it helps me deal with the complete bs that is this show right now.
Little things I loved though :
    - Arya calling the Hound Sandor
    - The bro hug and Tyrion declaration of love and gratefulness towards his big bro
    - Jon's WTF face during the entire episode was very funny

I love the way you filmed this video I think it works really great, also I think the video it's great, probably one of the best reviews that I have seen from you, so thank you for that.
The episode, when I was watching it, I thought that it was great. The direction, music and special effects were great and fun to watch, but now that some hours have passed, this was not a good episode or at least for me, I really didn't like the dialogue, writing and that years from character development went to nothing, and I'm not only speaking about Daenerys burning everything for no reason (from my point of view). Also, I think that the cleganebowl was given a bigger role that it didn't need. Since the start of the season, I said to myself that I had to wait for the end of the season to know if the episodes were good or bad and obviously the season too, and it didn't even end and I'm already thinking that this is probably the worst season, and I'm really disappointed. I still think that some things about the season are really great, but are a ton less compare to the things that I think are not good at all. and I don't think that the last episode could do something to surprise me in some good way that changes my point of view from the entire season.
Predictions or things that I would like to happen: Sansa and Tyrion as Queen and King or Gendry as king. I think that Jon is going to kill Grey Worm. Maybe Jon going with Ghost and Tormund to the north. That's it.
No D&D references for me this time haha.
(Sorry if I wrote something wrong. I'm not a native English speaker)

I think the reason we spend so much time with Aria this episode because 1. when Sandor tells aria she doesn't want to be like him and she says thank you, he's telling her to let go of revenge and it's a first step to moving forward for her. this is a big moment for her considering her one goal since leaving kings landing was to get revenge.
    2. aria spends time in the chaos and sees all the people dying, this might motivate her to kill daenerys and try to put Jon on the throne.

Nobody has mentioned the biggest plot hole of the episode. Tyrion wanted to avoid unnecessary deaths. Tyrion knew about a tunnel that has no guards, no gates and no defenses that leads directly into the heart of the Red Keep. Despite those 2 facts, Tyrion did not order Davos to deliver Greyworm and a dozen Unsullied to that tunnel. Seeing Greyworm drag Cersei to the top of a tower and do to her exactly what they did to Missandei would have been great.

    • @wiikendii

@@wiikendii It is the tunnel that Jaime used to enter the keep and find Cersei so your theory is disproved. It did not get closed until the collapse that prevented Jaime and Cersei from escaping.

I think the episode had definitely problems, although I really "enjoyed" (more like yelling at the screen) most of it. The problems that were brought up on this video (I think every thought I had good and bad were touched upon by somebody in the video) were because mostly this is based on a much longer and in depth material. So many things covered in the books is not in the show but the ending they try to be faithful to the book's ending (I assume) and so the road from A to Z was kind of messy. Some decisions were made for drama and shock value, and as it was said in the video, to advance the storyline in a certain direction.
We all saw that the show was definitely less when there wasn't a book to base on some of the dialogue and the choices. And this ending is the culmination of it. The fact that Dany becomes merciless, that I believe IS George's vision. But I REALLY hope Jaime's VERY disappointing ending is not what George has in mind. Where is Valonqar???
Also I agree with Kyle. "POOR BRIENNE!!!"
Great review guys. This format was REALLY GREAT.

So my last remaining prediction could STILL come to pass! Sansa, Davos & Tyrion convince Jon to sit on the throne. Then Sansa convinces Jon that the tow of THEM should wed, she's got the political smarts, he's draws the love & respect of those around him. YEah, Sansa shit the bed twice, betraying Jon at BOB, withholding that little morsel of there being the Knights of The Vale available, which would've saved countless lives. Then she betrayed Jon AGAIN using the info he have her on his parentage, seemingly for her own gain-which set in motion the tragedy of Dany going Targaryen & taking out King's Landing. BUT...I think she's able to navigate this ultimately & Jon & Sansa rule from the North!

Arya spent a month travelling south only to be turned back at the last minute by a folksy speech. Ned Stark kept Jon's parentage a secret just for Jon's sake but now when it's for the sake of the entire continent Jon can't shut his trap. Dany who has always been a benevolent ruler even in her vengeful moments has been drug through a ditch from the beginning of season 7 by a cast of idiot advisors and their ridiculous plans. As soon as the plan to retrieve an undead and show it to Cersi was spelled out I felt like something had fallen off in the writing. The only time anything has worked out for Dany is when she followed Olenna Tyrell's advice to ignore clever men and be a dragon. Sadly everyone is making stupid choices driving manufactured conflicts. Dany did the right thing with Varys and Tyrion did the right thing giving him up. Unfortunately, the writers had to crap on Dany one last time. I'm hopeful she'll be smart enough to realize the consequences and will therefore wipe out everyone not loyal but she probably won't. She needs to leave someone around to kill her.

    Plotholes and bullshit holes:
    Varys stupid death
    Scorpions suddenly have bad aim
Dany having to chose between two extremes... burn them all or wait for surrender. She could have just burnt the Red Keep and the fleet without committing genocide
    Cersei does nothing
    All other rulers forgotten
    Arya changes character last minute
and im sure theres more as usual

  • @carl.j917

The destruction of the whole place was kind of stupid. She wanted revenge, we get it. But she knew where Cersei was, she was in the fucking balcony for fucks sake. She could've gone straight there and burn the whole building and that was that. Destroying the whole place full of innocent people after everyone else begged her not to and not giving two shits about her allies who where there. That shit doesn't talk about revenge or madness or tyrany. That shit talks about lazy writing that's done just for shock value of the moment. lol

  • @patrickdoss25
    @patrickdoss25 5 лет назад

To also add on, tyrants and terrible people like Cersei NEVER imagine bad shit happening to him so when it finally happens they act like babies and act like everything is unfair. And Cersei refusing to leave the Red Keep was symbolic of her holding onto her power until the last minute and her seeking refuge was tantamount to her finally admitting she lost.

The only unambiguously 'good' characters at this point are men: Jon, Tyrion, Davos, and Varys. Cersei, Sansa and Daenerys are ruthless and power hungry, and unwilling to bend. Arya is literally an assassin. And Brienne is a jilted ex-girlfriend sobbing in the street in her bathrobe. At least Melisandre got to go out like a boss, but we had to get through child-burning and other stuff. So yeah, women are apparently incapable of being unambiguously good and virtuous in this show. Only the menfolks can be 'honorable'.
I have a feeling that Jon Snow's "Honor Before Reason" entry on TVTropes is going to be as long as my arm, but gosh, ain't he sweet? If Jon Snow ends up on the throne because all those crazy women took each other out while he clutched his pearls on the sidelines, I'm going to flip a table. I think I had better put down some yoga mats on the floor or something before the next episode airs, just in case, because it sure looks like that's how it's going to end.

I don't get Dany fans. I'm with Kyle on this one about Dany. I don't think Dany fans have been paying close enough attention to her. She was her father's daughter through and through and all that "this is mine, that is mine, I am Queen, all must bow to me" just solidified my dislike of her starting back in the before Mereen days.

It'll happen in the books if GRRM ever freaking finishes it. I don't mind her going off and burning everything but it was just rushed. I get they hinted a lot at it previously but she's never hurt innocent people. At this point now I want her to burn everything and kill everyone. You want a swerve of an ending? Actually have her do it. #TeamTargaryen

Yes Cersei loses I loved seeing the smug look whipped off her face. Her plan literally backfired on her. Glad Dany got her revenge. Burn baby Burn RIP though to the innocent.

Sure there was a build up that Dany can be harsh with ppl that betray her or the innocent, but she was not nearly pictured to be in a state where she would just burn a city full of people after they already surrendered. Going for Cersei yes but not the whole city. If there was a proper build up i wouldnt mind but this was way over the top for me.

I think them spending so much time on Arya would solidify Arya and Sansa will ban together to try to take out Dany. Or Maybe Tyrion Kills Dany after Dany Kills John. And Tyrion sits on the Throne. Sooo many maybe's.

The differential between the episode before and this one was Dany knew what to expect and adjusted her tactical approach accordingly. People getting uptight about the scorpions in episode 4 and the death of Rhaegal need to appreciate that, ships with scorpions wasn't a thing before. Dany wasn't sure what she was getting into and that's why she backed off there when it didn't serve her to engage. In this episode, she was fully focussed and knew what to do and her strategies. She used the sun at her back to mask her approach and hit the iron fleet with both fire and devastating speed. Similarly, she negated the threat of the wall defences by coming in low and strafing them from the sides.
The whole point about the Golden Company was to demonstrate how all the mercenaries in the world are no match against a Dragon. In the previous episode, Bronn called it when he said to both Tyrion & Jaime that Cersei had she was going to lose because Dragon>any army, sellswords or otherwise. They're the WMDs of Westeros.

Although my initial reaction to the Jaime/Cersei scene was disappointment, in the end it seems like the only thing that makes sense... for them to die together. I don't think it ruins Jaime's arc that he wanted to be there with her. He stuck with Cersei the whole time - from taking Riverrrun to watching her blow up the Sept. He was never truly redeemed just because he learned to care for literally one other person in his life besides his siblings. He came into the world with her, he never stopped loving her, and he wanted to be there to go out with her. The only reason I am sad is because I really wanted the solution to the Valonqar prophecy, but I don't see how this explains it. :(

The upgraded scorpions are too big and heavy for anti-aircraft. They need a whole crew of people to move them around so there's no way they are going to track a fast moving target. The ones on the ships have a guy in a little chair sighting over the top of the scorpion but he has to give tell the crew how to aim. The ones on the wall are even worse because they don't have anybody sighting them. They just point them in the right direction and hope for the best.
The only reason they hit Rhaegon in episode 4 is because he was flying in a perfectly straight and even path.

In the Inside the Episode featurette, the producers said they focused on Arya on the streets to give us the ground view of the people being slaughtered, whereas if they were just showing the people getting slaughtered without Arya we wouldn't really care as much. But with Arya in danger as well, we care a lot more. They also explained the reason you don't see a shot of Dany's face after she starts burning everything, because the focus changed from what our hero is doing to the repercussions of those actions. It's like the Chapters in the books. Her perspective ended and a new chapter/perspective began and we really see her as a godlike figure raining fire down on everything. Also, the "pale horse" Arya gets on HAD to be symbolic of one of the Four Horsemen which represents DEATH. Arya is now Death and she's coming for Dany.
Personally, my unlikely prediction is that Arya unsuccessfully tries to kill Dany and gets captured instead (whoa, she fails, whaaaaaat?). Dany insists she must burn for this. Jon, who is majorly upset at Dany for burning KL but still not willing to kill her, will say Ok no you're not burning my sister, AND THEN he'll kill her. But not before taking out Grey Worm in a "who's the best fighter in Westeros" showdown. GW dies. Then he kills Dany while apologizing to her and hating every second of it. He then refuses to take the throne and instead heads north of the wall to be with Ghost and Tormund and live in Ygritte's Cave, instead choosing BRAN to sit on the throne and Bran institutes the first democracy in Westeros. WHEW! There you have it lol

The fact that they have to sit and explain the show afterwards is a really bad sign.
It would have been more interesting had it been someone like Davos on the ground, cause he might actually die. There's no threat when it's Arya and it went on for way too long. It just kept going and going. Like we get it now move on please.

The other dragons didn’t have a rider making them easier to take down. I agree the Golden Company was a waste but overall I enjoyed it.
