The booming compact 4x4 market in the early years of the 21st century prompted a number of car manufacturers to do something completely out of character - they built compact 4x4s. Some held out longer than others but as sales of these downsized off-roaders stuck to their upward course, it became too costly for the big names not to try and grab a slice of the pie. Like Renault, Citroen, Peugeot and others, Volkswagen had little pedigree in this area of the market but figured that a compact 4x4 with the basic qualities of its popular Golf hatchback would hit the right notes with buyers. The Tiguan is that car.

Test drove a 2011 2.0TDi Tiguan with the DSG Gearbox today, found it was a really nice car to drive, didn't buy that specific one today but think I'm going to be looking for one for sure
Nice review 👍
I've just got myself a 2008 2l Diesel and im really happy with the value for money. I hope to get plenty more out of it.
look forward to big repair costs tho. how much was it to buy?
its just wow😍😍
I love it
I own a 2008 1.4 TSi Tiguan. I was lucky, my car has a faultless TSi engine, and bar returning problems with the temp sensor I've had no problems with the car at all.
But quite a few 1.4 TSi (and some 2.0 TSi) engines have issues with the timing chain, where the chain loses its shape over time and (when unattended) leads to the cilinder heads smashing into the valves. This is a pretty costly repair and might even financially total the car. I'm surprised that this video doesn't mention the timing chain issue at all.
The TSi timing chain issue is common in all TSi 1.4 engines built up until about 2013, and not just in the Tiguan either. If you're in the market for any VW Group 1.4 TSi (or TFSi if it's an Audi) based car, ask for a test drive with a cold engine and drive with the windows down. If you hear a ticking noise from the engine compartment, do yourself a favour and walk away.
