You nailed it. I just tried it. Amazing taste, I made it exactly as per your recipe, btw my first time working with Jackfruit, incredible vegetable for the vegan population. Thank you sharing your talents ❤🙏☮
Oh snap, I forgot about that! I'll have to go watch it. EDIT: Wow, that was a really good documentary. It reminds me of What The Health in terms of these organizations that are supposed to protect us are actually funded by the very industries killing us and the environment. It makes me glad I already went vegan and never liked fish to begin with.
Made these yesterday and they were incredibly tasty! Couldn't find Old Bay at my local grocery store here in Canada, but found some other seafood seasoning and it totally did the trick. Threw in a chopped dill pickel in the sauce as well instead of dill relish and it was fire. Thanks for all these great vegan comfort food recipes!
A jackfruit tip I wish I learned sooner...wring the shit out of it in a kitchen towel. That's how you get a meatier texture and get the briney flavor out.
I just found your channel and I love it! You give us exactly the correct amount of info. Your “if I could go back in time…” sentences are extremely helpful! Mistakes are learning opportunities and I get to learn with you.
I know the default purpose of the channel is vegan eating but I like alternative purposes of this, like how if you have a shellfish allergy but want to try crab cakes there is a way. But seriously, I have been working on reducing my meat consumption.
Same! I just found him tonight in my Twitter feed and subscribed here immediately after! I can’t stand jackfruit so hearts of palm is for me as well. I’m going to try it this weekend.
YAAASSSS!!! Gonna make this for my meat and fish eating family 😅 they're never gonna know what hit them til after the fact! They think vegan food is bland😌 This is an awesome way to introduce them to it: crab cakes ala jackfruit!😉😋 Thanks for the recipe, Thee Burger Dude!
As soon as I saw you biting into one of the crab cake sliders I thought, “white wine!” Cool thing is I have most of the ingredients and an Aldi across the street.
Have you ever had Gardein's crab cakes? I've never liked crab and when I tried them, I didn't like them. I want to know if that's how it's supposed to taste or if it just tastes bad. I might actually try this recipe though since all the ingredients sound good.
I've been contemplating making tuna sandwiches with jackfruit, but am still thinking about how to go about it. This looks really good and a nice alternative. Thanks for sharing. And if you come up with a good tuna, let us know!
I've made a tuna-like sandwich using chickpeas. I used all the other ingredients I used for tuna, like relish and vegan mayo. You can either mash the chickpeas or put them in a food processor.
@@suicune2001 Hi, yep, made the chickpea version many times! It's delicious. I've tried all types, and think most are really good; i just haven't done a jackfruit version yet, have you? :^)
@@lindapb6529 I've never tried young green jackfruit before. My store doesn't sell them. I did order some online so I'll at least get to try them. The only kind my store sells are the yellow ones in syrup which definitely would not work for tuna. lol
@@suicune2001 Yeah, syrupy tuna doesn't whet the appetite, lol. Not sure where you are, but Trader Joe's has good jackfruit in cans. And there's always online too.
@@lindapb6529 I don't know if there is a Trader Joe's in my town. I'd probably have to use something like Instacart to get anything beyond my normal store and they don't put many products online that actually exist in the store. A couple of people have also mentioned palm hearts. I've only tried those once. I don't remember what for though. I don't remember liking them as much as chickpeas but it could be worth a try.
I made 🦀 flavor by cooking carrots with some onions and green or red pepper and a spoon of cream it tasted just like crab I guess you can use the sauce to flavor vegetable meat
@@TheeBurgerDude OK, I don't doubt your experience with them, but in general, fresh anything is better than reheated, or frozen, so a fair test would be to compare fresh to fresh, or frozen to frozen.
It wasn't a fairness competition, it was for taste. The Trader Joe's were sold as frozen, it's not like he froze them from fresh in order to give himself a leg up. Plus he's judging his own creation vs. a competitor, where's the fairness in that?
Classic maryland crabcakes have diced red bell pepper. You could try adding that next time. Maybe green jalapeno without seeds or veins. Just the right amount of heat. But these look good! I'm in!
Dude, do you have good recipe for vegan hollandaise? Because of you use your crab cakes as the base for Eggs Benedict, using portobello mushrooms instead of English muffins, it would be a rock-your-world brunch option! Just a suggestion 😉
I wonder if it wouldn't be better to get jackfruit in syrup; to have is a little sweet might be better than having to fight with it to get the brine taste out. Anyone?
I'm so sad, trader Joe's stopped selling the jack fruit like that. I have one can I've put off using because I don't know another place to get it without stuff in it and a good price

Excellent! That's awesome to hear!
Vegetable?
Gotta try this!! 😋
@@3p1Kf41Lvegetable is a culinary term not a botanist one
I’ve been making my own version with, chickpeas, hearts of palm, tofu and seaweed, taste pretty good!!
Nice! Someone else mentioned hearts of palm but adding chickpeas could improve the texture. I'll have to experiment.
Those kelp granules have been a secret ingredient for my vegan seafood for years, that stuff is soooo good! Great video as always 👍
Haven't tried trader joe's crabless cakes but definitely down to give your recipe a try! These look bomb
Love the versatility of jackfruit as crab or pork. This "crabless" cakes look absolutely amazing! Cheers TBD!
The crackers for breadcrumbs! You’re a star
Awesome Video as always! Great timing since seaspiracy is going nuts on Netflix right now

There is a youtuber who has a video with an entire process to remove ‘briny/canned’ taste
Yes I've seen that and it's a whole process and still doesn't. This legit works in one minute.
Thanks! I've never eaten this kind of jackfruit before so I'll keep that in mind. :)

The Trader Joe’s one looked so sad. You killed this one😊🙏😅
These look amazing. Also that intro is a+mazing!
Okay now these look good 🔥 🔥

Amazing idea, never heard of these
I'd like to see this with Heart of Palm instead of jackfruit.
I make mine with hearts of
Palm same seasonings and Ira bomb
Oh good idea! My store doesn't have that kind of jackfruit he's using. Mine only has the yellow one in syrup. But my store does have heart of palm.
I make mine with hearts of palm too. They are pretty good

I use hearts of palm with fresh bell peppers & onions. I use old bay for seasoning & panko to fry.
Your version definitely looks better 🤩
💯 The Trader Joe’s puck looked pretty gross tbh. His looked like the real thing. 🔥
Thanks I love your videos 😍

Hey Dude, First time seeing one of your videos. New Sub. - great job.
"what's it here there" sauce 🤣🤣
I'm actually Allergic to shellfish. But I bet that would taste very good
hats off!!! that looks so good!

I would have never have thought to use jackfruit for crab!

Trader Joe’s discontinued it so I’m happy to have a better alternative! Thanks!

Also the tartar sauce>>>>> bomb asf
You should use shredded hearts of palm

Yo dude you sub jack fruit for artichoke hearts and you can also use powdered dashi which is dried seaweed.
For a fairer comparison test, you should freeze your crab cakes, and then compare your frozen patties to Trader Joe's.
I don't know if that would make much difference, they were pretty bad, in fact they don't make them anymore!
