- If you’re looking for a New York experience that is away from the mainstream - try venturing below ground to discover the mysterious beauty of Howe Caverns.
Howe Caverns is the second most visited natural attraction in New York State, after Niagra Falls. Tours are offered year-round, since it is always 52-degrees in the caves.

I came here for my graduation trip in 6th grade, I’m now a freshman in college and it still is without a doubt one of the best places I have ever been, definitely worth the visit.
Loved exploring Howe Caverns last month.
I came here for a trip in my sophomore year of HS for my earth science class because we was learning the unit about sedimentary, igneous rocks and stuff like that
My parents and I were a little skeptic about the boat ride only because I heard previous stories about how students would play too much and almost fell in the water
But I went and I loved it and ofc I was nervous for the boat ride but it was fun
I would definitely go here again☺️❤️
I love this as a child in the early 80s. There was the Catskill Green farm and Carson City..
I was here on a forth grade field trip from Norwich, Ny 1984. Perry Browne Elementary School. I live in Cleveland now and have tried to get my wife yo go back here with me. She said no way. She is afraid of earthquakes and getting trapped underground. Too many movies. Her loss.
I would enjoy it but not sure if my son would. He would definitely think a monster will be jumping out lol
My experience as a kid was that I liked to be scared.
Pause at 1:55 Who else sees a portrait of Farrah Fawcett at the right center of the screen?
I see it.
1:13 Godzilla
Does anyone known what’s on the other side of the waterfall down there? How far down or if there is another side?
A couple years ago on the boat tour a guide explained it as much more difficult to walk through, but people did go down there and it was where there were fans for ventilation. They said it was going to be opened at some point as a new tour but I’m not sure if that ever happened.
I have been there several times. When you leave Howe's Caverns go down the road and watch for Rainbow Falls sign. That is the other end of the cavern, they were doing tours there as well.
Then go North of Utica to the Herkimer Diamond Mine, bring your own tools (hammer, chisel, sledge, bucket).
I work at Howe Caverns, there is a speciality tour with climbing and walking through water back there
Who is here after watching HIMYM 😁
