    Welcome to the big HP ND1 club. My BBR Stage 2 Turbo build started Aug ‘20. March of ‘23 the car was tuned and we’re now running 12.5 psi max boost and just over 300 whp.

    I had a Machine Gray 2018 RF Club with BBS Package that I had the AVO Turbo installed in...after I picked it up from the shop, I was super disappointed due to the extreme surging it had in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears at about 1500 RPM to 2500 RPM. My car had the surging prior to the turbo install and the turbo magnified it. I still needed to complete the tune and was told the tune would take care of the surging issue. On June 25, 2021 I drove to Pyramid Lake and back home to log about 40 miles for my tune, the turbo performance on the highway was impressive and really a blast! Romping on it at 55MPH took up to 100 MPH in a matter of a few seconds, it was just what the car needed. Sadly on June 30, 2021 it burned up completely, in my garage, along with almost everything my wife and I owned, so I never got to find out how good the turbo really might have been. I now drive a 2021 RF with BBS Package, but it really doesn't have the same attraction for me that my 2018 had, even though it's almost identical in every way, except now I have Recaros in lieu of the Mazda leather seats. Maybe once our lives get back to normal my 2021 will become as cherished as my '18 was.

      What a crazy story! With the avo turbo kit, they use quite an unsophisticated tune from the factory where the car is guessing the boost pressure its running so that probably why that surging issue got worse. Had to install a new MAP sensor that could actually read boost and get a tune by ECUtek to fix throttle issues. Will probably make a video on that. Hope you are enjoying your new ride!

    Surprised you put in a NC trans rather than an ND2.
    Did you hear any feedback from others not to put in an ND2 trans. or was it about a price point?
    I have a 2020, GT, 6 speed and feel that the trans has some issues on reverse, 1-2 and 2-3, feels rough at times even after doing a trans fluid replacement at 6k miles from Mazda and doing a 5-7 min warmup.
    Would love to see more future videos on the Miata!

    • @Vitalewastaken
      @Vitalewastaken  Год назад +1

      I chose to put the NC miata trans in there because they have been proven for years to be more robust and, from my knowledge, can handle 250 HP easily. But, you need to buy an adapter online as well as put a new differential in there with a different gear ratio. Might make a video on this. I've had over 25k miles on the NC miata transmission and have had no complaints!

    • @BoostedNDMiata

      Availability! At the time of my build, there wasn’t data on the ND2 so having a race NC tranny build was the only real option.

  • @blueberrycheesecakesupremo7947

    I'm glad to hear you used the NC gear box. I got a 2014 NC For that very reason. It's going to BBR in two weeks for the stage two turbo kit and coilovers. They claim 302 BHP and 270 at the rear wheels. Any idea what power you are making?

    Looks like Glendale area. Are you willing to share costs? I'm sure you got a killer deal. 2016 + turbo is probably has around the same power as an ND2, but at a fraction of the price. Seems like it would be a solid purchase - especially if you worked on it yourself. Nice job! The NC transmission surprised me, but if it works - it works!

  • @stoneyt46

    I want to turbo my 2016 nd. Iv done everything else to it. But the turbo kits are so expensive I havent bothered. How come the turbo kits for this are like 5k$ and the one for my lexus was a little over 1k$ ?

    • @Vitalewastaken
      @Vitalewastaken  5 месяцев назад

      My guess is that this turbo kit is more niche, where developers spend more money designing a turbo kit that has less demand as opposed to more popular car brands like Lexus.

    • @Vitalewastaken

      Congrats on your purchase! I bought a Miata because I personally liked the looks more and liked the idea of potentially boosting in the near future. The 124 Abarth has a 1.6L engine which is a bit smaller than the already small 2L Miata engine, so I thought I'd take the extra displacement and just as a turbo later down the line for more power.

      I'm curious, what do you mean by this? Are you saying a specific paint color may reduce or raise the weight?

    • @ema1671
      @ema1671 Год назад +1

      @@Vitalewastaken the white Miata is the lightest because of the paint, yes. The soul crystal is the heaviest because of the layers added to give the paint depth. The difference in weight between the two is 20lb. This is why all the ND spec Miata are white from the factory. They have a in depth video about the spec Miata cars on RUclips. Very informative video.
