Hi Steve, love the videos. Follow a few channels.but yours makes me laugh the most with your honesty. Can’t wait for you to get back on the water. Fairs winds, following seas and many beers.
Hiya Steve, been watching and enjoying your videos while on holiday here in Madeira overlooking the marina in Calheta. Very inspiring making me also want to have a midlife crises. I have holidayed twice on Porto Santo Island. I bought a 14ft dinghy last October and have been teaching myself how to sail it on Cardiff Bay. Getting there slowly. Looking out over the marina here in Calheta watching the single handed sailors resting up on their yachts here in the marina. Fly back to Cardiff on Monday. I too am seeking ways to reduce the size of Government, lower taxes and end the welfare mindset by returning responsibility to the nuclear family under rule of law give to us through the Ten Commandments
Steve thank you for your informative videos... I've just watched my first one... Madeira part 2 I especially like the info you shared about the cost of small things like data cost on Madeira ... facilities... How about more info on formalities, marina cost... best supermarkets, where sailors hang out... Or anything that could help a cruiser plan a voyage and expenses would also be much appreciated? Keep up the good work!
I have just spoke to Steve on the phone and he is planning on another attempt this September. He is currently working on his website and social platforms so that you will now get an un-interrupted update via RUclips, Facebook and LinkedIn. He will post any links to keep following his new adventure soon.
Hi Steve have watched all of your videos and thoroughly enjoyed all of them, you look like a very competent sailer, can you give some back ground to your experience as it would be of interest to others who may be wanting to follow in your foot steps and my have some self doubts .
Hi Timothy, thanks for your comment .My experience when i started is probably the same as many UK sailors, i have had 3 boats a 19 foot Caprice, a 22 foot Dockrell and Puffin which is a 30 foot Kliever. The first 2 boats i messed about in the Solent with and did my Day Skipper. I found Puffin in a boatyard in Southwold and renovated her over 3 years then moored her in Burnham on Crouch.I then spent 3 seasons sailing as much as possible on weekends and holidays, then did my Yacht master theory just before i set off.Still have to do the practical!! Most of the Journey time wise has been coastal cruising but the journeys have been getting longer along the way. Lyme bay for example i think was 70 miles then Scilly to Ushant was 130 miles, a few more of 100 - 150 miles down tha coast of France then 480 across Biscay, 300 miles from Muchia to Cashcais, then 500 miles to Porto Santo, 300 miles to Gran Canaria and 750 miles to Cape Verde. So you can see that the journey itself develops you as a sailor. I still have a great deal to learn but i have developed my own system for offshore sailing in Puffin specific to me and my boat. This works quite well, often learning by making mistakes such as ensuring i all ways put the washboards in even if its only 12 -15 knts or you will take a wave through the hatch at some point :) You get to know the strengths and weaknesses in both you as a sailor and your boat.Hope that helps.
Hi thanks for the comment I am waiting for a harddrive to have data recovery done on it before another goes up. Currently in UK getting funds together in order to continue the journey!
Update on Steve from a conserned viewer. Steve apparently had some difficulties in Cape Verde and is now back in the UK: ' Hi no sadly not i had to stop at Cape Vede after an aborted attempt due to bad weather! Am in Uk at the moment getting funds together to go back to the boat when i am able!' Read more at www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?511393-Wandering-Steve#ACVHKF0Lotv8Pm18.99
Hi Leon. Very sorry for the delay! i am in the Cape Verde islands at the moment but am dealing with a few issues i am afraid! i have to complete editing for 3 or 4 videos and upload and will try and do it as soon as possible.
fantastic mate, are you going to climb the volcano when you get to los palma? anyhoo your breakfast looked nice, no black pudding tho, your slipping, go grab a beer or 6 n chill,
Hi Don It was Las Palmas town capital on Gran Canaria!! but we did go up into the mountains its very nice there i would go back seeing as the anchorage is cheap at 40 Euro a month. You have access to the showers etc and the internet is unlimited at 2 Euro per day.
Hi Rob i am afraid i am not in the Caribbean sadly.A week out from Gran Canaria i got hit by 11 days of South West winds and could not point at the Caribbean at all! i had to make for Cape Verde and am at Mindelo at the moment.Currently i have sorted out a mooring quite cheaply, and am going to have to go back to the UK and get some more money together. When i get back in UK i will drop you an e-mail with contact details as i would love to come and see your boat Defiant and have a chat and a few Rums :)
look forward to it. mayby both cross next year. i flew back to england 1st march, left octavia in the small marina untill 1st september. then back on the ancorage regards.
Hopefully we can do that and head for Barbados .When you get to Mindelo take the dingy to the fishing club pontoon by the bar it is free and they are quite friendly when they get to know you! Unless you go straight across that is :)
Just subscribed and watched a few of your videos. Nice to see some propper sailing. Hope your going to continue filming. Ant & Cid.

Hope you're well Steve, missing your vids!
Thanks for that Steve did some of that but it was a long time ago. I suppose it’s just having the balls to set off
