A beautifully candid interview. It brought a tear to my eye knowing that he is no longer with us. He's finally on his cloud. Thank you for everything, Mr. Pig.
One of my fondest memories of my teenage years was meeting Ken, skating with him and then being totally surprised when he ended up being the singer of the band I was going to see (for the first time) that night. SNFU will always be in my top 5 favorite bands of all time and the memories of just how nice Ken was and never even mentioning his band as we skated. I got to see them and talk to him several more times over the years but that summer in 88 will always have a special spot in my brain. Rest In Peace and I hope you are relaxing on that third cloud.
How the FUCK does this video only have 278 views?? This is goddam gold! To sit with Chi Pig and have an honest to God conversation would be completely surreal.
I absolutely love that the one thing that kept him going was himself. That is amazing. Great interview. The world lost a brilliant human being.....or alien.
How cool, awesome that you were able to sit down with him like this and just talk. I briefly met him before a show in Calgary around 2009, just a great guy! Eternal rest with your parents and the aliens Chi Pig
You only needed a minute to know you were experiencing an unforgettable moment with Chipig commanding the audience. He stirred entire spaces with his energy and magical presence. We always left an SNFU show feeling like we participated in something special together. You gave it. We got it. We were lucky for your presence. Thank you 🙏
I worked for SNFU in the mid nineties in the epitaph years.. Played Keys on Bobbitt.. Chi was my room mate on tour as we all doubled up on hotels.. This version of Chi in your interview is a different Chi that I knew. But he made his choices and he died young. If this was uploaded in Jan 2020, the interview must of happened before Oct 19 of 2019 as would be 57 in January. thanks for this. Simon/ Apologue podcast
Best of the chi interviews I’ve seen so far since he passed. That’s amazing how prescient he was saying he’s just waiting for the spaceship to come down take him up to the cloud between his mother and his father, he can’t wait. It’s not sad at all -- he’s in his happy place.
SNFU was one of the very first hardcore punk bands I started listening to as a teenage skateboarder. I was turned on to them by one of my earliest skater friends back in 1987. In my Freshman English class that year, we had a project where we had to choose a song that meant something to us, put together a collage, then present the song to the class. I chose "He's Not Getting Older, He's Getting Bitter" from the album, "If You Swear, You'll Catch No Fish." I remember when it came time to present my collage and play the song to the class, the uncomfortable looks of disbelief and shock I got after it finished were quite something. Ahhhhh, the fond memories of high school and punk rock! This was a great impromptu interview and it looks like you guys really captured a special moment. Thanks for the tunes and RIP Mr. Chi! Hope you're at peace on Cloud #3. ❤
Met Chi seeing The Wongs in Saskatoon Saskatchewan in 1990. 50 years old, played all over the states, met many of the greats. That was the only time I’d ever asked for an autograph. I’d been a huge SNFU fan before that. Thank you for posting this man. It really tickles the feels!
What a great interview. and I'm not too proud to admit I got a bit choked up when he said how much fun it was to make friends with you guys. He seemed like a genuinely warm, thoughtful guy and I wish SNFU had gotten bigger, I wish Kenny didn't go through his issues with drugs and I wish he was still here rocking the fuck out. RIP, Chi, enjoy your cloud or spaceship or whatever and thanks for giving us all the great songs and memories.
It was awesome for us to run into Ken and meet him. Such a good guy I hope he's doing well and gets a chance to see this video. If someone could send him the link it would be much appreciated, Thanks.
I got to meet some of my heroes too, including this man. He did a pig face drawing on my arm that i got tattooed over, my wife as well. He hung out with us for hours and was just cracking jokes and beers the whole time. I found out last night at band practice, put on snfu for the drive home and just cried while i sang along. Feels like losing family.
I was blessed to have met Mr chi pig n hear him sing God bless his beautiful soul you will be missed by many .like white on rice as you always said to me.
WOW!!! The only album that I ever bought simply because of the cover. That little kid all stressed out and holding a hand grenade with the green tint to the cover. She's not on the menu, Cannibal Cafe, The Gravedigger. And no one else wanted to play... I still play that album and I still dig it. Glad to see Mr Pig. Love that album. Be Safe 😷😵😷✌
Thanks for posting this interview. Really cool edit and conversation with Ken. I hope he's on that middle cloud right now basking in the love of his parents and looking down at us and having a laugh.
That was Beautiful, thnx for sharing this!! I had the Privilege of meeting him the night my band played Pub340, we had a good chat for about 10 minutes ~ I told him "I Love SNFU", and he replied "Me Too!!".. Rest In Power Chi, you were a Kool Kat*
I used to hang out in the music scene in the Vancouver downtown east side over the last decade or so and would run into him and chat quite often. He was a really decent human being.
His perspective is amazing. I still can't get over the impact he had on so many people. I wish I had the opportunity to meet him and explain how grateful I was to have his music in highschool. Fucking modern day Mozart
An incredible, incomparable force in music and in life. I am grateful for the time I shared with him and my friends at shows over the years. Enjoy the pillow cloud. I can think of no one more deserving. Thank you for your songs, stories, and kindness.
Bless your f'in heart, Chi Pig!! And yes, you did make it upstairs! Forever eternal peace. 🌙 ✨ Thank you for sharing this @ thebeginning I just heard about his passing.
Ah Ken, what an amazing, poignant, and yet sad interview. You had to know the guy to understand where he was coming from, he wasn't crazy or weird, just insightful & always present. I hadn't seen him in a few years and I so wish I had seen him again before he was beamed up to be that middle pillow cloud between his folks. Much love, Ken. Be well where ever you are & glad to have known you for most of my existence, my youth would have never been the same with you and SNaFU.
Awesome honest man who made me laugh and was a great quiet friend to my hubby. Always was looking for a replacement aviation helmet for him but he was happy with my pink gloves. RIP dear Chi
Breaks my heart that chi is gone, the sardine can is gone...that was Ben at the end...the lower eastside will never be the same... Looks like that spaceship took him home...there were weird lights in the sky that Thursday night 🖤
Turns out he had 7 more months to live... SNFU were an amazing band in those mid 80s. Saw them in a tiny club in Ohio and they were unbelievably. I've seen them a number of times since but they were never the same. Sad to see the destruction of drugs...RIP Chi
It seems everyone has their story of bumping into Chi Pig. I grew up in Dublin and bought the album FYULABA when it came out, when I was maybe ten, and I loved it. So melodic. Fast-forward 20 years and I find myself in Vancouver by myself for a few days and take a "wrong turn" into the DTES and see a striking-looking chap on his hunkers outside a bar named Funky Winker Beans. Knew it was Chi Pig because I had happened by chance to see a current photo of him a few weeks previously. Approached him and told him I used to blast FYULABA in my bedroom in Ireland in the late 90s. He was freaked out that I even recognised him. We chatted about Irish punk bands and other stuff over beers. He was the most instantly lovable person I have ever met. When we were parting company he grabbed my wrist and said, 'I don't usually talk to strangers, but I really enjoyed talking with you.' I fecking melted. Later that night I saw him pour his guts into a karaoke machine -- 'Hurt' à la Cash. A year later I learnt he died. He was such a sweetheart and he didn't deserve the ill health and bad times he had to go through -- no one does. Rest in peace, mister.
I remember being on Hastings having lunch and I looked beside me at the counter and he was sitting beside me. Super nice guy. Canadian punk royalty. R.I.P
So many stories and nights out running into him and ending up carousing around the hood. He always looked out for me when I was often going 'full tilt' and would make a point if we were in a crowd to make sure I was o.k . I'll miss your karaoke nights. The scene has lost a true fixture and now a legend. Miss you Ken,enjoy your pillowy cloud... rest well.
This can also be a feeling of pity or a pretended sense of belonging from someone who obviously leads a better life in order to keep the conversation going.
This planet sure misses you but I no your happy floating around the cosmos with your folks never met U or even seen U play but U inriched me with your magic music may U rip Mr chi pig
it sucks getting old, i wish i could go back to 1986 and be 16 again and know what i know now, i only saw snfu one time in Corvallis Or in the cafeteria, 1994 ithink
That opening live footage was fimed by Michael D'Agnillo. My friend Otto booked SNFU to play the University of Windsor Ontario that year for $400. We were still in high school. We were starting a scene. I interviewed the band before the show for my fanzine.
A beautifully candid interview. It brought a tear to my eye knowing that he is no longer with us. He's finally on his cloud. Thank you for everything, Mr. Pig.
still unbearable
He was the best front man, got to see them twice in Az.
Such a voice, lyrist
Broke my heart. I cried like you,
Tears, great song.
Looks like the spaceship finally picked him up. Have a good time out there Chi!

I absolutely agree with you!

Rest easy in the mothership, Chi. Thanks for 35 years of music.

My first concert in '85 @14 years old. Never have seen anything top that. Turned me Punk for Life
I was fortunate enough to be able to buy him a beer and have a short conversation with him. It still blows my mind that they’re from my hometown.

Guy had a nice soul . really good interview.
Just hung up the shirt he signed for me.
You know someone’s a good guy when the other dude has this constant smile on his face.
This can also be a feeling of pity or a pretended sense of belonging from someone who obviously leads a better life in order to keep the conversation going.
Goats for world peace and free love that’s precisely what I got from it.
You were amazing. Its a shame the world couldn't see it
