Home movies from the shooting of The Waltons. Recently Judy Norton (Mary Ellen Walton) uncovered some personal film shot at the Warner Bros Studio lot during the original filming of The Waltons. Here she is sharing this never before seen footage of her own relatives visiting and touring the set while the series was filming. See Michael Learned (Olivia Walton) and Richard Thomas (John Boy) off camera. The dressing rooms, the real school room trailer where the cast went to school during the filming season.

My husband and I watch reruns of the Walton's every single day. It's so comforting; like wrapping yourself in an old favorite blanket. With each episode, it's like going back to simpler times.
So true!
I agree! I've been watching the reruns very frequently since Covid started! This was one of my favorite childhood shows. SO wholesome, simpler times, huge focus on family 🙂 AND... the whole family ate meals together & said grace beforehand ❤️
where can I find more episodes?
@@ashlea1977
METV plays old reruns of the Walton's Monday - Friday at noon. You might want to check your local listings for your area? All you'll have to do is Google METV program scheduling for shows and times.
I hope this helps .
I totally agree with this! Also takes me back to simpler times in my own life, with my grandparents!
Doesn't she have the most pleasant, calming demeanor? Nice to see a former 'child star' who grew up to be so seemingly well-adjusted. Lovely person.
Thank you so much.
Let’s all step into Judy Norton’s time machine! Old home movies put a smile on my face in general...thank you for sharing these with the fans. 💜
Such a great idea this one. A real treat and step back in time! And Michael Learned truly looks beautiful!
Glad you enjoyed it.
I too love home movies. As we see Michael Learned is a very elegant beautiful woman, as Judy is.
I love watching y'all, my favorite to watch
It's amazing how fast time seems to go as you get older because no way it feels 50 years ago since this aired
I think the seventies was best decade, the music, fashion,tv shows, movies and don't forget the disco era! I am glad I was there as a teen.
Fun time indeed.
@@judynorton2598 I personally like 80s music and TV shows. 😀
I think the 70s had the best music and tv shows. I love movies from the 30s 40s and 50s but the 70s has some of my favorites too like the goodbye girl, the way we were, the life and times of judge roy bean and american graffiti
Thanks for sharing so awesome Thanks judy
Those clothes and cars looked just like my childhood in the 70's. Thanks for the walk down memory lane, and especially for sharing your mom's rare films with us, Judy.
Glad you enjoyed it.
What a treasure your Mum left for you to find. Sad that so much Warner history is gone. Because of you and your Mum it won't be forgotten! ✌❤
Very true.
Not sure when your Mother passed. But sorry for your great loss.
Thank you. We lost her in 2013.
@@judynorton2598 I am sure she was a real beauty.. Hugs to you and thank you . Your the best 👍❤️❤️
@@beverlygamble4789 , Ya! Judy's quite the gal..her Mom has much to be proud of.
Thank you for sharing these home movies with us, Judy. I enjoyed watching.
I am used to just seeing you in the period clothes you wore doing the show. It was weird seeing you and Michael out of costume and in at that point in time modern clothes. It was amazing for your mother to have left you this gift. She must have been so proud of all your successes in life like the Waltons.
Thank you. I like to think so. She loved being on the set.
They both looked stunning!!
The Waltons were an extension of my own family so I feel like I am watching my own family home movies. This is so very precious and thank you so much for sharing.
Me too and since I’ve lost both of my parents, watching this series brings me so much peace. It takes me back to the early seventies when we all gathered in front of our television.
My pleasure.
Just found this channel. I am so glad I did. I grew up watching the Waltons every week. I think we watched it from the very beginning and Christmas isn't the same without a viewing of the Homecoming. The Waltons was a very special part of my growing up and I thank you for sharing these fabulous glimpses with us! And since I cannot resist; "Goodnight Mary Ellen".
I just found it to 👍
Thank you so much. Welcome!!
Thank you Stella. Welcome!
@@judynorton2598 omg I can’t believe it , hi Mary Ellen , I mean Judy , so cool 😎
@@stelladevers5334 Found recently and sure am thrilled viewing these videos. Judy Norton does this so well:)🌞🌼
Fascinating, especially to see the house in 'real life.' And that's a really priceless few seconds of you and Eric Scott walking together. Beautiful. ❤
I know, right?! I love that.
Had seen Michael "as herself" but the contrast to seeing her at the house, dressed in 1970s clothing - was very cool. Thanks so much for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it
Ok, you sold me!
How do we get back to that time?!
🤔
I wish, right?
This was a great surprise for you to discover from your mom’s belongings and for us! Thank you, Judy!
How wonderful to have this! I am very sorry for the loss of your Mom. ❤ I recently had vcr tapes converted to Dvd and my Dad was on them. He passed away 5 years ago. I treasure them. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you. It was a rare and fun find.
When my mother passed away in 2001, my father passed away in 1976. Not long after one of my brother's transferred all the home movies on to VHS tape, so we all had a copy.
@@judynorton2598 AND Thank You 🙏🏽 for sharing with Us ALL, Judy!!!! I feel like You are family because I watched Season 1-9 during their original airings WITH my Mom (who worked at CBS on Beverly Blvd. in the 1970’s), and now that she’s gone ALL these wonderful memories come through with Your help, Judy!! YOU will always be FAMILY to Me-and My Mom above....., she had all us 8 boys watch The Walton’s to teach us about loving 🥰 Family!!
🙋🏻♂️🙏🏽❤️🙌🏾
I am so enjoying this the ones who are on Facebook from the Waltons. When I broke my back in 2014 I had the opportunity to watch each episode during my recovery. I love them so much
Thanks so much for watching. Glad we were able to share your recovery with you.
I was only 2 years old when the show started, and I never realized how pretty you and Michael were. I watch now and just love the way the two of you look.
Absolutely beautiful. So were the other two sisters, Cami and Mary.
Thank you so much.
I remember a picnic table being used on the episode called the stray costarring Todd Bridges where John Sr used it to do paperwork and talk with a in the clouds Jim bob. Todd bridges had a fish hook in his foot sitting on a picnic table and John sr got it out.
It's unbelievable how the producers REALLY put us there as an audience. I love seeing Ikes store. I enjoy this tremendously Judy! Thank you so much 💓
Our pleasure!
Lovely....ahh the Waltons....part of my childhood...was 10 in 1970 ...was nice growin up with you :)
Glad you enjoyed it
I had loved watching these episodes of how the Walton's were filmed. It's interesting to see how Warren Brothers puts everything together.
Happy to hear it.
Dear Judy, I lost my mother (and one of my sisters) over a year ago, so I trust you are getting through the loss of your mother. I remember seeing the picnic table in the season 5 show "The Great Motorcycle Race", an episode that focuses on Ike and Corabeth adopting Aimee. It's great to see all those "vintage" 1960s and 1970s automobiles! I think I saw a VW Bus in the film. It's also great to see your mother and grandmother! Again, I trust you and yours are doing well.
Thank you very much. I lost my mom in 2013 - so it has been some time now. Doing well.
That was truly a treat. How an episode comes to be is as fascinating as the episode itself.
I agree.
What a beautiful Show…Still watch everyday. A great escape to go back to this time period when families had challenges that were overcome by the deep love they had….❤️☺️
So glad you are enjoying these
My brothers and mom were extras one day. I loved walking up the steps and into the house. I was so surprised the stairs to the 2nd story led to nowhere. LOL.
I was in line at the lunch area and Ralph was behind me. He was very sweet and I was very nervous. 💕 thanks for posting these. I just found you today!!
Welcome, hope you enjoy the videos.
The “march of progress” has robbed us of some history, unfortunately. Just glad you have happy memories to share about your time on those awesome film/TV lots. You were so blessed to have that experience. Great home movies, too. Thanks! 🙏🏼
I agree. Happy to have these special memories.
Love these memories you are sharing
How wonderful to see these home movies. I enjoyed seeing a few of you in regular "modern" clothes outside the set. How especially wonderful you to have film of your mom & grandma. This was great. Thank you Judy
Yes. It was wonderful to see them.
You still look as lovely as you always have! My husband and I watched The Waltons every day while eating dinner when it was on. Thank you so much for sharing!
Love that!
Thank you from Cornwall UK. I grew up with The Waltons on TV and am exactly the same age, so always identified with you and Mary Ellen. Knowing my fascination, my husband bought me the complete 9 series collection with all the films and specials about 10 years ago. I exercise-biked through every episode back then and did the same through the pandemic, now I have nearly finished cycling up to series 9. Watching your segments adds another dimension and I have Earl's book to reference all the episodes. I studied Drama and became a practitioner and teacher, now retired. I think The Waltons gives me a sense of calm, and a reassurance in the goodness of people and the importance of family. I bought a long kitchen table ha ha, and my mother lives with us. The younger generations visit and we all like to be together. Thank you again for sharing your memories !
That is so wonderful. Thanks for sharing.
@@judynorton2598 Thank you so much for responding! That brought tears to my eyes!
Such a lovely story. One of my favorite parts of the series were the scenes at their kitchen table. It just reminds me so much of my family in rural Tennessee . So very comforting. Thank you.
❤️
@@cinnamongirl7877I just googled Tennesse to check where it is on the map. You are a long way from the sea! I can see the sea in the far distance from my bedroom window, I guess that's my equivalent to The Blue Ridge Mountain view.
Thank you Judy for sharing the home movies your mom made. It’s was wonderful to see them.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed them.
I do love the behind-the-scenes stories Judy shares. I am so fascinated with the fact that so much of what we saw in the show was filmed on a studio lot in Southern California. When television can convince us it's Walton's Mountain, somewhere in Virginia and we believe it - that is so fascinating. I love the stories, it makes you want to go back and view the old re-runs. I am so impressed with each and every one of these stories and the Zoom call with the cast was so upbeat. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it.
Would love to have John-boy's car!! Thanks, Judy, for sharing!
It was a fun car :)
Loved those old movie clips Judy makes me wish I was there 💕💕💕
Such a fun find for me too.
Thank you for sharing the home movies! What a treasure of memories of family and TV family.....
I remember when "Erin" was talking about "The Homecoming" and she had to wear her brother's socks because it was snowing! She said look at my feet, you can see it! I just loved that part of the story, going to see the missionary handing out gifts...(just talked about this yesterday to a missionary I know)for Bible verses...the one boy said, "Too long!" And you said "Jesus wept"! Lots of fond memories!!! God bless!!
Yes - such wonderful memories of special times.
@@judynorton2598 Always great hearing from you! When I met all of you, sans "Ben", in New Jersey (that organ turning while going up/down; I told "Erin", you were part of something very special & thanked her! What a chemistry and it started with "The Homecoming", and grew into one of the best show on TV! And now, DVD! 💕🌟😃❤️☮️
Thank you Judy 💖
So awesome!
I love home movies.I think that's cool to have home movies behind the scenes.
Thanks Judy for showing us your home movies. I bet your family really enjoyed being on set and meeting your your 2nd family.
Thank you. I believe they did.
Now that......was cool! Thanks Miss Judy.
This is absolutely priceless!! I can certainly understand why they didn’t want “unauthorized filming”. (Now of course there is absolutely no expectation of privacy!) We were supposed to watch the show once a week!! I think the on going camaraderie between you all is SO very special. So very sad about your mother sweetie. ❤️ I so understand.
Thank you. Yes - virtually no privacy for any of us anymore.
What wonderful film. I have not heard one bad thing about the behind the scenes of the Waltons like I have other childhood shows, y'all must have been wonderful even off set.
Thanks so much.
How fascinating to see home movies your mom and grandma filmed! I think it's so cool to see sets and dressing rooms and all these things that you have so many memories of. I just want to say thank you for sharing this with us- it is really special!
I totally agree! Glad you enjoyed it.
You are such a lovely and gracious woman. Thank you for sharing this. 🤗
You're so welcome.
I forgot to Thank You for showing them to all of us. I truly enjoyed them.
Glad you like them!
I know cell phones are convenient but I sure miss the good old days where everyone wasn't on their phone and actually went and visited each other. Thank you Judy for another wonderful video. God bless!
You're so welcome.
Oh my goodness, what a treat! You are so generous to share this film with us! You and Eric are so sweet walking along the road. Ms Learned is a stately person, so beautiful. My city has been undergoing many changes, progress as you said. So many quaint neighborhoods and longtime businesses are gone. I sometimes miss that former time. Nevertheless, many improvements help to strengthen the city. Thanks so very much for this wonderful look back! Bless you and Walton's everywhere!
📝📚📽️❤️💐🙏🕊️
PS I am sorry for the loss of your Mom. She looks to have been a nice person!
Thank you so much.
What a treasure your Mom left you. Thank you for sharing.
You are most welcome.
Morn'n Judy! Thanks, these are so cool!
I just turned 64, born & raised in Virginia. My mother and I loved, loved, loved watching The Waltons when I waa growing up in the 70's. I loved the closeness of the family, the mountains. Actually there was nothing that I disliked about the show. A few weeks ago, I was able to find it on Tv and I watched it for 3 weeks straight. My parents grew up during the depression years hear in Virginia and they could relate to the show. Since I was about 10 or 11, I could visualize how their lives were growing up. A happier place and time compared to the world we live in today. Thank you so much for sharing. It is GREATLY APPRECIATED.
Thank you so much for continuing to watch the series and these Behind the Scenes segments.
Home movies. What a find! Thanks for sharing and interpreting for us.
My pleasure.
I grew up watching the Waltons, now my mother who's 83 loves watching it in reruns over everything else thats out there, she says, it has a good story line and I completely agree.
Happy to hear that. Glad you are still enjoying the show.
That was cool to see. Thank you Judy.
You're welcome.
Awesome footage from the past. What a trip back in time. Those trailers must of been really hot in the summertime.
They were - but fortunately they had window AC units in them.
Thank you for sharing your life with us. Home videos are so very special.
They sure are!
Thank you so much for sharing i.enjoy. watching the waltons
Home videos are always interesting to see, for the behind the scenes of movies and tv shows
I feel the same way.
So thank you very much I really appreciate it thanks.
I have always loved watching the Walton's and I always will. They take me back to a delightful time in my life when living wasn't as complicated as it is now. God bless you for sharing. I just can't get enough of these clips!!!!💛❤️♥️
Thank you so much.
How lovely to see you after all these years later. I didn't recognise you although I was watching a film the other day and saw you but had to check in the credits to make sure I was right. I loved watching the Waltons.
Yes, I grew up and I guess changed a bit as mos people do. Thanks for being a Waltons fan!
These old movies are wonderful Judy. Thank you for showing us.Such wonderful memories for all of you I’m sure. You and the cast were such a great part of our lives and still are . ♥️
Thanks for sharing with us.
Great! I wish Hollywood still made good movies and shows like the waltons.
I think its cool to see the Walton's cast in there own clothes off the set.
I agree - lots of fun.
That was awesome, thanks Judy.
These are great, thanks for sharing!
Wow. Thank you Judy for sharing these with us. You know, today my sister Monica, who’s 61 now, helped me set up our new T.V. so that we can do streaming, and the first thing she asked me was, which shows do you watch the most. Naturally I told her my all time favorites were: Andy Griffith, The Waltons. I’m 59 years old now, and when I was growing up on our family farm in Ohio, watching The Waltons, really helped to shape my heart. What a joy it is to still be able to watch episodes. Thank you Judy for your work on the show.....your work made a difference in my life. All of you did. May the Lord Jesus bless you all. -Stephen, Ohio
Thank you so much. Glad you are still enjoying the show.
Thank-you for all you do to share with us. I am really enjoying what you have been sharing with us.
Happy to hear that. Thank you.
I've always been fascinated with the Facades used for the exterior houses and sceneries. You are so lucky to be able to visit and as you say take a lunch with you and find a place to sit and enjoy them. I have a friend that Lived close by years ago where they filmed the exterior shots of the shows, Hogan's Heroes, Batman, The Real McCoy's, The Andy Griffith Show, Gomer Pyle, some of the Original Star Trek show scenes, Gone with the Wind, an episode of Land of the Giants and many more (40 acres Backlot, I believe part of Desilu). He told me the when he was a kid there was one spot in the fencing that wasn't protected that great with guards and they would sneak on the Backlot when it wasn't being used and they would explore like crazy taking in the sites. That would be a dream to be able to see all of this up close and personal. I can only dream and imagine 👍💖💖
Thanks for sharing.
That was Awesome, Thank you very much. 👍👍💖💖💖💖
Thanks for sharing the family home vid.
Classic footage and thank you for sharing Judy . I love the part at 3:20 where Eric/ Ben is in 1930's clothing and you drop in in 1970's attire ! It is amazing how much work went into making the show and movies of that time . In my opinion it payed off because it looks more realistic than anything shot today . Thank you and keep up the great work !
So glad you enjoyed it.
What a treasure you have😊. Thank you for sharing.
Beautiful job as always
judy, you speak with such reverance for the show, the lot, the cast/people etc...nice to see how the show is such a part and still is part of your life ... thanks ...
Changed all our lives and we our lives are so much richer because of the experience.
@@judynorton2598 i was thinking of how those family shows progressed through film life. there was little house of the prairie a frontier show, then, The Waltons, depression era, 8 is Enough, a modern take on family upbringing ... various shows in between, like, the family with Kristy McNichol and others but it was the Waltons that i believe had the biggest impact on the culture of society. I know growing up in small town central Alberta, Canada, i never realized untill watching the reruns just how much infuence the Waltons had on everyday life in the 70's, in particular, a large percentage of people in our and neighbouring towns, especially the farm kids, wore overall jeans, and straw hats ... watching the first couple shows again i had a smile on my face cause i was reflecting on how we dressed or others dressed emulating the Waltons. i think thats when Flannel shirts started making a scene too ... not sure ...
Thank you Judy, so much for sharing these videos! I Am soooo thankful that you are doing these videos, because I was always and still am a HUGE Waltons fan! I love you all and I have very single episode of the Waltons on DVD. This was a huge part of my life, and always will be.....Many thanks and many blessings to you and the cast!

Judy thank you for sharing that footage. That stuff is priceless. it also made me realize what a pain it was to transport all those trailers all at once to various locations. I'm sure that had to be well planned because of the logistics.
Absolutely. Lots of logistics and organizing takes place for all the filming.
