Agreed - love them both so much! The entire cast- Richard also stars in a favorite movie of mine called “Living Proof” The Hank Williams JR. Story- If any of you haven’t seen it, you really should check it out- A stellar performance, of course.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🙂 🌟
Richard Thomas.....JOHN BOY!!🤗. One of my all time favorite actors. I am a 76 years old African American woman. I still to this day watch The Walton's. This Family Drama just made me feel good. Any time something major happened in the world that was scary or made me sad, I immediately would want to see the Walton's. The music and that Family would bring me peace. Richard Thomas was my favorite, but I liked the entire cast, especially Grand Pa and Grandma. It was a joy to watch him this morning. I look forward to seeing the second part. I really LOVE this show. THANK YOU!!!! Carolyn Plummer Riley.....Las Vegas, NV.❤️
I'm not African-American, I'm white and English, but I feel exactly the same way. I love this show and feel like its schmaltz is the perfect antidote to this boring, sterilised, impersonal, non-contact century.
A truer thing has never been said. I feel exactly to every word the same about the waltons. They are timeless. I love them as if they were my own family

Love Richard Thomas!!! What an exceptional actor!!! He was always amazing and wonderful on The Waltons and I couldn’t imagine anyone else in that iconic role. He was so passionate, intense and enthusiastic as John Boy!!! He was perfect for the part, and made the show special, along with the other characters. He definitely has that charm and charisma ❤️

@Kurt Gibbons not true. Richard signed on for five years, it was in the contract. He was young, he wanted to do other things. He worked in theater his whole life and also was in some great movies. He is well aware he will always be well known and beloved as John Boy and he fondly treasures his time on The Waltons. He did a phenomenal job as John Boy and he is thankful for that role. The show was not the same without Richard Thomas, he is a remarkable and unique person. You can’t compare those other comedic actors to Richard Thomas. Totally different. Why do you have to say such negative things on a positive post about a man who has brought joy to millions for many years?!
I can’t say enough “good” about the character John Boy…so many times I sat there with tears in my eyes because of this wonderful, caring, loving character. Richard Thomas is one of the greatest actors of all time and certainly John boy is my all time favorite character…ever. Thank you Judy for this channel and thank you Richard for bring John Boy into our hearts.
Richard looks amazing. Seeing contemporaries who still have the complete package (looks, brains, humility, personality) is a welcome affirmation of our aging process and demonstrates how we still have so much more to give to this world. I literally sigh when I watch you two together.

Haven't seen Richard do any TV interviews or movies or TV shows in a long time he still looks like John boy and I guess he always will great video Judy
I've said it before and I'll say it again. A fantastic television show for all ages, from 5 to 95. One could walk away from any episode learning something positive about the world we live in. And, to appreciate what we have.
John Boy was just about one of the most admirable and well-defined characters ever represented on TV--one of my all-time favorites. The great Richard Thomas played the role amazingly! His acting was absolutely brilliant for so many reasons. Who doesn't long for the old days, when television was wholesome and life was simple?
Thank you, Judy, for having Richard on. We have all grown older together. Isnt it nice that we can laugh and cringe yet enjoy remembering those times. Bless you for keeping these memories and actually preserving them for future generations. You are like a historian for the show. Good on you!
Both Judy and Richard, along with the rest of the Walton kid's, look still young and like a part of my television family I grew up with. Thank you for staying with your God given looks and not trying to change what we remember of you!
Hearing from the cast is always special. As a fan for many years I feel like this was really a family because it always seemed so natural. I am 79 and it brings back so many memories of my early life living on a farm. My grandparents and aunt and uncle lived next door since there were two farm houses. I had no siblings and that I am sorry about.
Lois, if you’d enjoy it, I wish you’d write of your memories. They’re valuable. The writing is also valuable - no need of publishing. Even if you kept your writing private the process of writing your memories can be gifts, again, to you. Thank you for sharing what you have already. :)
Lois, I didn’t have any siblings either so I lived vicariously through my favorite childhood shows and I was drawn to the shows with a lot of siblings 😱
I'm so happy to see this conversation I feel like I drank a whole jar of the recipe. 😂 Thank you to Judy and Richard for gifting us Waltons fans with this slice of their time. 🌻
Richard was always the biggest help in some of the best scenes that made the show what it aways was. Whether he was on or off, he was very determined to be in every Walton scene right on time and target
Thank you Judy for having Richard on your show. My children grew up watching the Waltons. I have all the DVD'S for my great grandchildren to watch. I loved your show. We need more like them now. Hugs and much love to you both. ❤

Hi Judy. This is so exciting. I was at the opening show in Appleton, WI. I also have that Kentucky connection. The "salt of the earth" people. A beautiful state. Blue grass and red dirt is no exaggeration. Please convey to Richard, his performance was breathtaking. The moment he hit the stage, the audience roared. That was for his body of work. Amazing. Adding to your comments Judy, regarding Richard's ability to support and appreciate fellow cast members. Humbly, he stepped away from the stage as to not interfere with the applause offered to his castmates; so to speak They deserved it thoroughly. I always say, talent is a wonderful thing; talent plus character is best. The entire cast was great. The story. Moving, timely, thoughtful and extremely responsible. Thank you Richard. I have been moved by your performances for decades.Thank you Judy. I am definitely looking forward to part 2.
I love Richard Thomas. He is amazing in everything he does. He was the main reason I started watching The Waltons. But then, I fell for everyone on the show.....I had a huge crush on him back then. And I still think he is handsome and talented and just plain wonderful..
Judy: on the episode when John Boy had to tell Professor Mann (the Jewish man) that he hurt his feelings, I just thought that was so moving because so many men are portrayed on tv as not emoting. The second such scene was when Verdie accused him of telling Rosemary (teacher) her secret about not being able to read. His voice and his face when he was telling her that he didn’t break her trust. Beautifully done because again, men aren’t really allowed to have feelings on so many shows.
I watch The Homecoming every year on Thanksgiving Day. It puts me in the Christmas Mood. It makes me cry and laugh. My favorite scene is when Elizabeth says "I'm going to have puppies!" lol
Thank you so much for interviewing Richard. Please let him know how much we appreciate him taking time to share his memories! I watch the show all the time and have gotten my adult children to watch. It’s nice to be able to share a piece of my childhood with them. Much love and gratitude to you both❤❤❤
As another fan, Joanna, thank you for this beautiful expression, “speaking” for so many. I often get too detailed (writing here, due to background). Yours is heartfelt and sings. :)
I agree. We introduced our little ones to the Waltons, as well, so many years ago. We still watch it together as a family. They are adults now, but, the history lesson is still well worth the time to watch.
@@heygetoffmylawn1572 I agree. Both of my sons enjoy the history and especially Grandpa Walton who reminds them of their Papa! We end up having really great conversations about the show.
Wonderful interview! We need to cherish the Walton actors as the time goes on, they're legends. Isn't Richard Thomas 71, dang, he looks unbelievably youthful, not just for his age but in general. Judy looks fantastic too! They need to tell us the secret!
What a wonderful treat! You are all so special. I am so grateful for The Walton's, for Earl Hamner, for Judy's videos! I love The Homecoming more than I can properly express and for reasons difficult to explain. I am so grateful for how you each portrayed your "characters" with care that you created a "make-believe" family for many viewers. Richard, you're just remarkable! I'm so mad I missed that Mockingbird was playing in Cleveland! I might have traveled to attend. People like you all give hope in humanity, especially these days! Lots of love to you and Walton's everywhere! Your Pennsylvania fan. 🧡💐✨🙏🕊️
I love this! I still live and grew up in the town he talks about coming to visit every summer. Johnson county Ky. Everyone would get so excited when we'd see "John Boy" out and about when he'd visit his grandparents. I got to see him once when he was at the Dairy Queen with his triplets. He's as kind in person as he was on the Walton's. He's right there isn't a better area to visit or live than here in Eastern Ky.
Great to see you two together, talking about the show, acting, and him spending summers on his grandparent's farm while growing-up. Great interview, and good getting those laughs in there. Just like two good friends talking, which you are.
Thank you so much, Ms. Norton and Mr. Thomas. This was the conversation that most of us have wanted to watch since Ms. Norton launched this wonderful platform. Looking forward to more with Mr. Thomas.
I loved John Boy he has always been my favorite. Mary Ellen has been my second favorite, and I loved the scenes with the two of you together. The cast was and is amazing. Thanks for giving us viewers this amazing interview. I look forward to part 2. Richard, in my eyes, hasn't changed much. He still looks amazing.
I am so glad Richard has come on. Richard is probably one of the finest actors around. He is so believable in whatever he does. He doesn't even have to say anything, his facial expressions say it all. I hope you can get Drew and GW on next. Thanks for sharing.
I presently live close to Louisville, KY and I believe Richard's grand parents lived in Paintsville. He was right in that Paintsville is "out in the country." It is a beautiful area of the state.
Judy, you are Amazing!! Thank you so MUCH! And Thank you, Richard, so good to see you! I love the sweet connection between John Boy and Mary Ellen, when he goes to her rescue in the Minstrel and the Dust Bowl Cousins to the fighting over the shed and the typewriter. You can see the bond they have and how broken Mary Ellen is when she realized she sold the typewriter. I can't wait till the next video! Thank you for your kind thoughtfulness for your fans it means so much!! Kathy 🥰
I agree. Thank you Judy. It’s wonderful for the many fans of the show to hear these great stories from you and your cast mates and crew. What is most impressive to me always is what lovely people you all grew up to be. Richard is still a great big brother with a fine work ethic to match his talent for example. And you bring these fine folks for everyone to enjoy. Thank you for your hard work on the show and your devotion to its memory and the wonderful people who made it all happen.
I am so so so excited about this interview! Thank you a million Judy and Richard for doing this- I haven't watched it yet but it's going to be amazing! ❤️❤️ Edit: it WAS amazing and now I'm looking forward to Part 2 😁
He is such a great guy! Love all the Walton actors including you, Judy. Would love to see one of his performances. Maybe they will show his play on tv some time. I can’t always travel to the destinations where he is performing. Thank you for sharing Judy👍❤️
@@DianaLynne-27 We could all call PBS, maybe Headquarters & local stations, ask if they would arrange a recording, plus individual stations purchase same… for “Great Performances”or more. (Hopefully everyone contributes something to PBS, even if not able to afford full membership.)
Thank you so much for this wonderful interview! As a child of the 80's I grew up watching the Waltons. Such wonderful, wholesome family memories. Love you both!
Love all of you from the Waltons. It's great with you Judy but whenever a cast member joins it's so nice to share your bonding in the work and the memories that you share. Thanks to all of you. Especially you because you put it together and arranged it all.
A great interview….loved the entire Waltons cast. I remember the Homecoming like it was yesterday…. I watch it every year. A Christmas classic that can’t be missed. The series offered me a time of reflection, even though I wasn’t that old. It offers insight into the life of a depression family during different situations. Better times even though tremendous struggle. Family relied on family. Satisfied with simple things…. It’s a reflection of my own life.
@@judynorton2598thank you so very much. Your skills over the years are fabulous. We all are so lucky to have your gifts and presence. Thank you for your beauty and grace. I am your biggest fan.
I imagine that working with the same actors over such an extended period of time, you DO draw from your past experiences and bring depths to the part that make it much more real. You both were great. I love that scene in season two when the Walton kids went into Ike's to rib John Boy about buying those pants for the dance. When John Boy told them to get to school with that glare on his face, and Mary Ellen facial reaction was priceless.
My favorite Johnboy & Maryellen is season 1 episode 1 out front of the school. He and Marcia are squabbling and she walks away and Mary Ellen walks up to John boy and does her eye thing🤭 I have to laugh everytime I watch it!
What an absolute treat for you to have Richard Thomas come on your channel and sit and talk with you. Now I know why he was perfect for John Boy, spending summers in eastern Kentucky on a real farm but having professional parents in the arts and him with opportunities to hone his skills. Thank you both for sharing with the folks who are your fans!
That was a very nice interview. I like the part, talked about towards the end, how being young and your ego , the fame. Like you said you have to forgive yourself, you were just 20 . I think we all look back on our twenties and think I was embarrassing sometimes.
I often wonder if the Waltons will die with us. I feel so sorry for most young people today who will never experience that same sense of community. We tried to keep that bond of love alive in our small community until recently, but no one wants to volunteer and do things together anymore. There are bigger and better things to do now I suppose. That's why we get old and move on I guess, so things can change. It brought a tear to my eye seeing you and Richard together. Thank you both, and everyone who created the show. It really is a gateway back to many of our childhood memories.
Greetings from Wiesbaden, Germany. I watched "The Waltons" in the 70's. Sunday, 6 p.m. was a fixed date for me, my mother and my grandmother. Later there were some reruns of the series. I am always happy to see members of the Waltons family on TV or RUclips. I saw Richard Thomas in some Christmas movies. And I was extremely impressed of him in "All Quiet on the Western Front" years ago. I am a member of a chat group on RUclips. Sometimes they say at the end: "Good night, XY." Like the Waltons. You see, you are not forgotten in Germany. I wish you all the best.
Love love Richard Thomas. He is amazing and I try to see as much of his work as I can find. Wonderful actor. Judy thank you and Richard for such a lovely interview. 💕
Richard was one of my favorite character on "The Waltons." He is such a wonderful actor. It was really nice of him to take time away from his schedule to appear on your show. Thank you for this awesome interview.
Watching The Waltons when I can is therapy for me. Takes me away and soothes my mind. Great escape that takes away my worries. Like a warm blanket. Comforting❤
I am so excited! "John Boy" was my very first true love and I proudly started the first grade with my Walton's lunchbox everyday. I still love the Walton's, and John boy, and I love your channel. Thank you so much for sharing with us.
Their scenes together were some of the best of the whole show. I was a child of the 70's and 80's and grew up watching and then when my kids were old enough to understand it I watched it with them. My son really loved the show. John Boy was someone he could relate to as he's an artist and writer too and we live in Virginia.
@@judynorton2598 You were so great! I was such a shy girl as a kid so naturally MaryEllen was my favorite character because she (you) were so spunky and outspoken I just loved the character and your portrayal.
Such a great episode, Judy!!! Like you, Richard does not seem to age!! I think my favorite episode from Richard was "The Sermon" -- he had such wonderful connection with Grandpa and Grandma, and really all of the family, but I think that episode was a powerful one for him, personally. Although I haven't been fortunate to see Richard as Atticus Finch, I did see him in London in 2000 when he was doing "Art" with Patrick Duffy -- hilariously funny. Can't wait to see more from your interview with Richard!
I grew up with you Richard being just 5 years younger and I NEVER saw in any EGO coming from you in any way! If anything, your Humble Maturity was what we all loved and cherished the most and it was so inspirational! Please don’t tell me it was JUST an Act! :-) I won’t believe it even if you do!

@@peaceshepherding529 Thank you 🙏 You are too kind! I’m so thankful to Judy for starting this vlog and allowing us to tag-along!
Our pleasure.
Wonderful interview! We need to cherish the Walton actors as the time goes on, they're legends.
Isn't Richard Thomas 71, dang, he looks unbelievably youthful, not just for his age but in general. Judy looks fantastic too! They need to tell us the secret!
Thank you so much… 🥰
What a wonderful treat! 🧡💐✨🙏🕊️
I'm a Pennsylvania fan too. I wish I could've seen richard in the play. I've seen the movie to kill a mockingbird with Gregory peck.
The Homecoming was very special and sprouted this amazing “family”. :)
That’s so sweet.
Great to see you two together, talking about the show, acting, and him spending summers on his grandparent's farm while growing-up. Great interview, and good getting those laughs in there. Just like two good friends talking, which you are.
It was so sweet to get to sit and chat together.
Great video today... with *John Boy* himself... such a treat! ;-)
Enjoy!
Thank you so much, Ms. Norton and Mr. Thomas. This was the conversation that most of us have wanted to watch since Ms. Norton launched this wonderful platform. Looking forward to more with Mr. Thomas.
Our pleasure! Part 2 coming next.
Thanks for joining us.
A particular favorite of mine is when Mary Ellen was so upset and JohnBoy gives her flowers, so touching.
This was great! Judy you’re so beautiful, lucky girl! ♥️
🥰
What a remarkable man. Thank-you for this. ☺️
My pleasure.
Have been waiting for a Richard Thomas interview! I think every family member has been interviewed now except for Michael Learned.
Enjoy!
I am so glad Richard has come on. Richard is probably one of the finest actors around. He is so believable in whatever he does. He doesn't even have to say anything, his facial expressions say it all. I hope you can get Drew and GW on next. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed this :)
Kathy 🥰
So glad you’re enjoying these.
Yes! I just watched those episodes this past weekend, so heartfelt, natural acting🤗
I love how in the old homecoming, you all wore old time clothes becacuse it was the kinds of clothes that came out back then in your childhood
Yes, the authenticity was wonderful.
I’ve been waiting for this interview! So exciting.
Me too!!! :)
Enjoy ;)
It’s great to hear from Richard. Thank you Judy for all you do.
My pleasure.
@@judynorton2598 That you reply personally to your viewers is just terrific. Thank you for that too Judy.
I had no idea he was up in Omaha. Welcome to corn country!
What a treat. Thank you Judy!
My pleasure.
I am so so so excited about this interview! Thank you a million Judy and Richard for doing this- I haven't watched it yet but it's going to be amazing! ❤️❤️
Edit: it WAS amazing and now I'm looking forward to Part 2 😁
He is such a great guy! Love all the Walton actors including you, Judy. Would love to see one of his performances. Maybe they will show his play on tv some time. I can’t always travel to the destinations where he is performing. Thank you for sharing Judy👍❤️
@@DianaLynne-27 We could all call PBS, maybe Headquarters & local stations, ask if they would arrange a recording, plus individual stations purchase same… for “Great Performances”or more. (Hopefully everyone contributes something to PBS, even if not able to afford full membership.)
Wonderful!
What a treat to hear from Richard Thomas! Do wish his play was coming to a town near me, such a consummate actor! Thank you Judy!
My pleasure.
Thank you so much for this wonderful interview! As a child of the 80's I grew up watching the Waltons. Such wonderful, wholesome family memories. Love you both!
Thanks for joining us.
I was taught ballet, along with my sister, in Richard's father's school. Almost feels like a dream. I remember Richard Thomas watching a class.
Oh wow. That’s so cool.
Love all of you from the Waltons. It's great with you Judy but whenever a cast member joins it's so nice to share your bonding in the work and the memories that you share. Thanks to all of you. Especially you because you put it together and arranged it all.
You are so welcome
A great interview….loved the entire Waltons cast. I remember the Homecoming like it was yesterday…. I watch it every year. A Christmas classic that can’t be missed.
The series offered me a time of reflection, even though I wasn’t that old. It offers insight into the life of a depression family during different situations. Better times even though tremendous struggle. Family relied on family. Satisfied with simple things….
It’s a reflection of my own life.
So glad you have enjoyed the show and my segments here. Thanks for watching.
I had such fun playing those scenes.
My favorite Johnboy & Maryellen is season 1 episode 1 out front of the school. He and Marcia are squabbling and she walks away and Mary Ellen walks up to John boy and does her eye thing🤭 I have to laugh everytime I watch it!
Those were some of my favorite scenes - Mary Ellen & John Boy fencing with each other.
He’s a man of many layers - all good ones :)
Richard thanks for the share and Judy thanks for getting him to do it you two are some American treasures
Thank you so much.
That was a very nice interview. I like the part, talked about towards the end, how being young and your ego , the fame. Like you said you have to forgive yourself, you were just 20 . I think we all look back on our twenties and think I was embarrassing sometimes.
So true… most people can look back and say they were young and silly in some ways.
Oh my gosh I really love Richard Thomas..I love the Waltons, I continue watching every day it make me miss my family and hometown in Thailand
🥰
I often wonder if the Waltons will die with us. I feel so sorry for most young people today who will never experience that same sense of community. We tried to keep that bond of love alive in our small community until recently, but no one wants to volunteer and do things together anymore. There are bigger and better things to do now I suppose. That's why we get old and move on I guess, so things can change. It brought a tear to my eye seeing you and Richard together. Thank you both, and everyone who created the show. It really is a gateway back to many of our childhood memories.
Glad you enjoyed this.
How wonderful. Thanks for watching.
Love love Richard Thomas. He is amazing and I try to see as much of his work as I can find. Wonderful actor. Judy thank you and Richard for such a lovely interview. 💕
Our pleasure!
Richard was one of my favorite character on "The Waltons." He is such a wonderful actor. It was really nice of him to take time away from his schedule to appear on your show. Thank you for this awesome interview.
Glad you enjoyed it.
You hit it out of the park Judy! Thank you so much for getting Richard. And thank you Richard for doing this!
Thanks for joining us.
Finally! Richard!💖 Thanks Judy....great interview!😊😊😊
My pleasure.
Watching The Waltons when I can is therapy for me. Takes me away and soothes my mind. Great escape that takes away my worries. Like a warm blanket. Comforting❤
Me too! Comforting is such a good word for it!
Definitely 🦋
That’s so nice to hear.
I am so excited! "John Boy" was my very first true love and I proudly started the first grade with my Walton's lunchbox everyday. I still love the Walton's, and John boy, and I love your channel. Thank you so much for sharing with us.
Thanks so much.
I want to see this!!
Their scenes together were some of the best of the whole show. I was a child of the 70's and 80's and grew up watching and then when my kids were old enough to understand it I watched it with them. My son really loved the show. John Boy was someone he could relate to as he's an artist and writer too and we live in Virginia.
I had such fun doing scenes with Richard.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great to see him working. Doing live tour has to be work to say the least. Again ,enjoying this insite so much.
Thanks for watching. He has told me he actually loves touring.
Richard was always wonderful to work with.
Thank you for having Richard Thomas on the show it was a treat.
Such a treat for me too :)
Good to see Richard. A great actor, great guy. Enjoyed him talking about some of his childhood in Kentucky.
Thanks for joining us.

Great Show Judy, all of you kids on the Walton's were very special. But Thomas was on a level of his own.
They couldn't have picked a better person and actor to wrap the show around.
Great interview Judy ! Love the show !
Well said, I agree!!
I agree. He’s very special.
Thanks Richard and Judy.. these are Great.
Glad you enjoyed Part 1 :) Part 2 coming next.
I absolutely loved this interview, Judy. Thank you so much for finally having Richard Thomas on your channel. You all make acting look so easy and natural. The Walton’s was Masterpiece TV. Can’t wait to watch it tonight.
Thank you.
I wished it was close by .. I'd love to see Richard Thomas performing.
Sorry you won’t have a chance to see it.

Yeah him Judy and mary hasn’t changed much at all .
Thank you Mary Ellen🧡

I loved Richard Thomas in the Waltons. Anything on TV that starred Richard Thomas; I watched it. It's clear that he loves acting and wants to assign the highest quality possible to it.
He’s so talented.
I watch the Waltons every day. Sometimes two or three episodes. I just can't get enough of that show. Best TV program that was ever on.
