      Yeah, a fence is so restricting unless you have a perfectly set up saw, and who can guarantee that when there are a dozen other people about the place.. or well, just life conspiring to help you ruin a perfectly good top with a bit of blade drift! B

  • @richardgregory4640
    @richardgregory4640 4 года назад

    So...a question (not specifically related to the silky oak build): Why do you need a neck break-angle? I watched a couple of your older vids about how to achieve the perfect break-angle without using protractors and calculations, etc, but why bother? Why can't you just have the neck parallel with the top of the body?

    • @CrimsonCustomGuitars
      @CrimsonCustomGuitars  4 года назад

      Good question, most guitar bridges are of two basic designs, strat type or tunematic, a strat type term or fixed bridge has saddles that are about 11mm above the body and a straight neck, or very slightly angled one using a shim is fine.. a tunematic however sits about 14mm high and needs a few more at least for adjustment, therefore you need to angle the neck back to fit the bridge of choice. B

    • @richardgregory4640
      @richardgregory4640 4 года назад

      @@CrimsonCustomGuitars Hmm, I'm still not quite getting it. Even if you had a tunematic with loads of extra for adjustment, why not just cut out less of a pocket for the neck and keep it parallel to the body? I'm not suggesting it would be better, I'm just trying to figure out why you need to add an angle.

    What do you have to charge for these guitars? $5,000? Don’t get me wrong, that’s a nice guitar and I’m sure it’s well worth the money. But damn bro, I’d be afraid of running out customers with the Resourses to buy one. I understand why you have a hard time making a living just building guitars. It’s obvious why you’ve had to come up with additional products to sell. You’re fortunate for the RUclips era. I built about ten Electric guitars from scratch and a couple of kits and I came to the conclusion real quick that if I planned on making any profit, that I was going to have to buy a CNC router set up at the very least, and still I would be leery of rushing too much on the necks. I think I’d have to start a year earlier just building necks and letting the milled next sit in the desert air and by the time I started milling the bodies, the necks will have twisted all the we’re gonna twist. I would still have to take a price hit on the first 30-50 though and give them as gifts to people that I felt would further the brand. All it takes is one in the right hands and it could snowball from there.
