I really love this tripod. Perfect fit for my 600d and 18-55 lens set-up. 😁😂😃
Hey, even though you are probably joking about it, light camera-lens combinations can actually benefit greatly from heavy tripods/heads. This is mainly because the heavy head makes it easier to add drag to tripod movements.
It’s not just about the money folks. For a serious filmmaker this is such a worthy investment when other considerations are no longer a problem. One thing I learned the hard way is that when you’re low on cash and you’re in it for the long run, then you’re too poor to be cheap. In other words, when you’re poor, make sure to spend your money on things that will LAST and make you more efficient. Do NOT invest in cheap things. Really. You can’t afford for it to break cause you can’t spend money on another piece of gear all of a sudden, or look bad in front of that new customer cause a piece of equipment broke etc. Now I’m not saying you have to buy this particular tripod, whatever, you’re the only person who knows what matters to you right now. But don’t be cheap. Look beyond the price, especially for the long run.
To those of you who can’t afford, the bit with the lever on the top which extends the legs was already done by Manfrotto about 30 or 40 years ago on the manfotto 058, my dad used for 30+ years as a wedding photographer and I now use the same tripod for my 3D and video business. Still going strong.
So I guess now’s not a good time to say I own and have used for the last 15 years a $6,400 Sachtler tripod. Floor spreader, carbon legs, SB-25 head I believe. It is the single greatest piece of kit that I own, it is the smoothest tripod head besides an O’Connor, and those heads are over $20,000. I have never used a single manfrotto product that I liked unless it was brand new out of the box. After 3-4 shoots they start to fall apart and get sticky. If you have to have laser smooth panning and tilting shots you absolutely cannot go wrong with a Sachtler setup. Great video.
@@krane15 I wasn't trying to put them down per-se, I was expressing my personal experience with them. If Manfrotto clients are happy with the results they get awesome! Personally, their products are not up to my standards and I was basically saying, "you get what you pay for". Price, generally, is a reflection of quality, craftsmanship, and longevity. You can spend $600 on a tripod and have to replace it four times in as many years , or you can spend $2400 on a tripod and have it for decades. I get that not everybody can afford high end gear, but crapping on a company for making a quality product and charging a fair price is not helpful either. Same thing happened when Apple introduced the new Mac Pro. People freaked out at the price, but when you realize that the professional clientele that can actually use (and need for that matter) the capability of that workstation are shooting on $100,000 camera rigs recording hundreds of terabytes or even petabytes of data for their projects, the price point of a Mac Pro is meaningless.
@@krane15 I’ve had my Manfrotto Nitrotec N8 replaced twice under warranty with the 3rd one sitting in the corner gathering dust. They are very cheaply made and not ‘fluid head’ as advertised but packed with grease.
Manfrotto is without a doubt the most overrated camera gear brand out there. Coasting on their reputation from decades ago and the fact that noobs don't understand what actual fluid heads are but making poor quality plastick-y crap that is outperformed by no name Chinese "crap" gear for half the price. This is readily apparent when you're on a shoot and have to handle or use any manfrotto gear that's been in use for more than a few years. It always feels awful.

Well, for those who have budget and are in film making profession, this is an investment and will have the convenience of using this tripod. Maybe in time, the amount of it will pay off. But for a hobbyist like me, i'll just stick to a desent reliable tripod with affordable price on tag.
$1,200.00 for a set of pro level tripod legs is peanuts. We tested these last year and they are, without a a doubt, the easiest to use and most flexible legs on the market. If you think these are expensive, 75mm is for little tripod heads and relatively light cinema cameras. Step up to bigger, heavier cameras and you are at $3,277.00 for the same legs in the 100mm bowl version. I can't understand why the 100mm version costs three times as much as the 75mm version. Love the legs, we're replacing Miller legs as soon as we can with these www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1431234-REG/sachtler_5585_flowtech_100_ms_carbon.html
Quickly being able to deploy legs, and adjust height is soooo nice. Was looking for something like this, but for landscape shots when hiking...so obviously, this is too bulky for my needs, but great for the studio. Just wish it was more affordable (and they had a slim/light backpackable size).
Thanks for the review! A good tripod is the first thing I bought after my first big paying gig six years ago. It is a Sachtler Ace. I'm thinking about upgrading the legs to this Flowtech set and keep my existing head. These look great! And I love how you can remove the mid-level spreader. Sometimes it gets in the way.
This product may make total since for a full time filmmaker, no doubt. However your favorite features like sideloading and a illuminated bubble level are found on a lot of entry level fluid head products. I don't understand your justification on saying what really 'sold you on it'. Heck, even if your product didn't support sideloading there are plenty of options, like Kessler plates, that are very commonplace. That being said those tripods really are awesome!
I used to use the sachtler hotpods shooting news with an ENG camera. Those sticks weighed a ton even without the 25-pound camera. Nice to see they're going carbon. Worth every penny.

This, this exactly. I see so many people gawking over "a drone" when I feel like "So, could you also make like a beautiful, non-moving shot from a tripod instead of going for the oh so obvious these days just because "It's a moving shot from the sky?" (Funny enough I see a lot of people who are absolutely obsessed with drones or rigs and like to haul it with them to basically everywhere but "a tripod is to heavy", so they do not use/take it with them at the moments their shot might benefit greatly from it...) My video-teacher said "Acquire the basic equipment like a tripod, video light, rain-cover and maybe some of the smaller extra's and rent the camera if you are more into freelancing. The tripods, video lights and rain covers are the pieces of equipment at rental offices that more often than not are worn out or sometimes badly taken care of because they are rented a lot, while the camera is usually in good shape, but also up to standards, because developments are rapid these days." He also mentioned how your body basically needs to become one with the tripod, "Using a tripod needs to become something that is a second nature thing". That said though, I personally think the videomaker should have compared the Flowtech tripod with a more conventional videotripod instead of something that, for me more resembles a photo tripod's legs with the ability to change the head for a video-head-like thingy. The trouble for me with most conventional video tripods is the 2 knobs for the 2 sections, which I usually loosened first upon raising the camera by grabbing the head-leveling knob. Only downside of the Flowtech: that is does not have a ground-spreader, it can be slightly annoying to slightly close the legs to be able to lower it, since the legs want to go inwards when doing that. That said, awesome product, setting up was such a breeze compared to the other Sachtlers (and a couple Manfrotto's) I have had my hands on.

A thing to consider with tripods is the maximum weight for camera. With the camera you are showing it is fine but if you are moving up to a big (say) ARRI all rigged up you can bump into that limit. Sachtler can help out there of course, with a bigger tripod, but it may mean the lifetime is shorter than you expect.
Hello Armando, thanks for the review. If you look closely, the tripod actually wobbles back and forth at the slightest touch. I was really wondering the whole time whether this is due to your carpet or what it could be, but there is hardly a touch from you where you cannot see that the tripod is tackling back and forth. That can't be with a $ 1000 tripod. Can you explain to me why it wobbles like a $ 50 tripod with you? Thanks and regards
Good God, your videos are amazing. Great production value, no b.s., all the info we need, none of the fluff, but still with some personality. Brilliant!! Also, I bought my Sachtler DV2 tripod in 2000, I think. The damn thing is still in perfect condition, so I can't justify getting this one. But it sure looks nice!
I don't have an issue spending money on a good pro tripod but I'd love to see a follow up video on these legs and see how they're holding up. Some reviews make me a little wary of the long term durability. Thanks for the vid.
You should be spending this money on guitars and amps!!!! Ha ha.... always find it funny when I see some creator who I watch in the comments about some other gear. I, too, am considering dropping an obscene amount of $ on a tripod.
You'll get better pans/tilts by using the proper pan handle. That's what it's designed for. Using the on-camera handle you'll never have enough control to guarantee smooth movement.
This looks really great. Looking into buying the flowtech75 with aktiv8 head. Just not sure yet if the sideload or the touch & go plate option (aktiv8T) is the best way to go…
I love your content because it appeals to me as I know what it costs to invest in your business. A lot of these guys are b-roll lovers or use a mirror less for professional jobs, so a tripod that’s so expensive doesn’t make sense to them
I just think that many people are enthusiasts and do this as a hobby. Someone doing professional work and getting paid $50,000 for a small commercial shoot isn't going to balk at the price.
Armando Ferreira Very true. I got my first taste of a proper tripod when I borrowed my buddies which was somewhere in the 8,000 range just for the fluid head. I’m glad you came out with this video as 2-3 grand fits more in the budget.
CoveringFish haha funny you say that because I see comments of people saying how expensive it is and I'm here thinking, this is budget territory in the pro world. These kids haven't seen a $10,000+ tripod yet 😂
Ended up ordering the Flowtech 75 with the FSB 4 Fluid Head. I couldn't justify the more expensive head yet however, I can always upgrade down the line. I'm most excited for the sticks!!!
No joke. Today, I was looking for a new tripod. I rewatched Film Riot’s video on the Benro BV-10. I made a comment on that video A LONG TIME ago, and Armando responded making a joke about Manfrotoo. I asked myself, I wonder when Armando is going to make a video on a tripod?
Are there any alternative brands for people who just cannot afford this thing but want a good and sturdy enough video tripod? I mean, Sachtler makes amazing tripods; I sometimes drool over the Sachtler Caddy that a local TV production company uses. But that thing costs approx 9 grand without the head.
This is a good bargain! Back in 1990, I got a Sachtler Caddy. It was $5K! Still perfectly fine in 2020. Buy Sachtler once, it'll last your entire career.
Absolutely love the legs, really bummed how much more they are charging for the 100mm bowl version (an extra $1250). I just could not get along with the pre set counter balance clicks of the head...close but never perfect. pan up or down and when I let go of the camera it would keep creeping (just like yours at 4:32) went back to Vinten with an infinite balance adjustment for the head. A few other brands also have this type of counter balance Oconner, Cartooni, Really Right Stuff FH-350, and the older Libec before they went downhill with low priced stuff only. Once you use it its impossible to live without, let go of the camera in any angle and it stays EXACTLY in the spot no need for locks while shooting.
Your video has a nice lighting, and is visually appealing (the figure is in focus and creates a pleasing contrast with the background without being harsh or exaggerated ). Even if it is not the topic of the video, I would be interested in knowing how you lit and shot it. And thanks a lot for the interesting content!
These look so dope....I was just talking to my lady last night about I got to get a better tripod and mic boom stands. Great video, I will put this on my radar.
Ever heard of diminishing returns? Yes, it might be just 10% smoother than a competitor half it’s price, but you are paying a premium price for a bit more convenience for the most part.
Expensive as expected from a Sachtler .. I want to buy it, but when considering price tag, I find the Sirui BCT series carbon fiber tripods makes more sense .. affordable, solidly build and the locking system is better and easier than other video tripods (not as easy as this one's single point access)
@@mondobytes Thanks. My "buying a tripod" journey has gone from an initial thought of a $600.00 tripod, to the Flowtech 75 with an ACE head and now to the FS8 head. lol Of course at first I was just going to buy a BMD 6K but now I have ordered a 12K and a 6K so everything has gotten more expensive. And better! Thanks for this video, it's still making a difference.
Exactly. I get it, the argument for it. But lead with price in this case. Ohh wait.. If the price is said at the begining then most will click off, then he won't get the view time, or ads and that will translate to revenue loss for him. So i get it. But sneaky. Great content though.
I am about to make a jump (budget permitting) to a c500 Mark II, and I am trying to find a balance between naked run and gun to a kit with matte box, monitors, v-mount, etc... May this be one of the best tripods to pair with the modularity of the Canon c500 Mark II?

Dude, you're killing me! I want the Flowtech bad. LOL
I'm shocked you don't have one 😂
@@mondobytes I know right? I almost picked one up at IBC but decided to wait. Matt has the 100mm version and loves it.
You sold me on the fluid head with the side load and 501 plate compatibility. Doing this.
Love the tripod, but I love the Street Fighter cabinet even more! If we ever get to do a collab a best of 3 will definitely be in order 😂✌️
Miguel Quiles let's do it!
@@mondobytes It's on like Donkey Kong! Haha You going to Kando this year?
Miguel Quiles I think so, that's the plan at least
@@mondobytes Nice! I'll definitely be there again, hopefully with my video guy this year so I can film a ton of content 😁👍🏻
I don't have an issue spending money on a good pro tripod but I'd love to see a follow up video on these legs and see how they're holding up. Some reviews make me a little wary of the long term durability. Thanks for the vid.
Marticulate I’ve used these things and abuse them and still think to this day they are the best tripod legs you can buy.
Well I know the next tripod I am getting when I upgrade! Thanks Armando.
Love the Video. I think I’m buying. I use Benro and Manfrotto tripods and I’ve even using them for a couple years so I think I’m going to buy this.
You'll really like enjoy it for me using any other tripod feels backwards.
SOLD! Thanks!
You should be spending this money on guitars and amps!!!! Ha ha.... always find it funny when I see some creator who I watch in the comments about some other gear. I, too, am considering dropping an obscene amount of $ on a tripod.
Armando, I see you pride yourself on bringing viewers true value. One quick question , how do you get your videos so sharp and clear ?
I film in Log so I push my color grade in post which usually gives you a much better looking image.
He takes more time on the color
Let's talk about that beautiful lens. Wow!
You'll get better pans/tilts by using the proper pan handle. That's what it's designed for. Using the on-camera handle you'll never have enough control to guarantee smooth movement.
Everything.Digital works great for what I use it lol
This is the TRIPOD !! THX Armando, planning and start to saving money for this beast
This looks really great. Looking into buying the flowtech75 with aktiv8 head. Just not sure yet if the sideload or the touch & go plate option (aktiv8T) is the best way to go…
Is it a good idea to use existing decent Tripod, and just get the Sachtler Head to fit on it?
That’s a beautiful rig you have there 😱
Ooof that price tag tho. Goals for tripod setups haha. Great video Armando!
Thanks for this video. Just placed an order!
OC Films you’ll love it, use mine everyday and can’t see myself using another tripod for what we do.
All the makings of a great infomercial
Haha, the exaggeration with adjusting the tripod was priceless. I will admit though the one you demonstrated was sweet. :)
Ended up ordering the Flowtech 75 with the FSB 4 Fluid Head. I couldn't justify the more expensive head yet however, I can always upgrade down the line. I'm most excited for the sticks!!!
Stastro let me know what you think when you get them?
@@mondobytes My order arrives tomorrow and I've got two shoots this week so will do! BTW are you in SOFLA by any chance?
Stastro cool, na I'm from Los Angeles
Literally drooling all over the place.
Has no one noticed how much it shakes at 1:38 after he sets it?? Does he have it sitting on foam or what?
was that the slider tripod that you showed last?
What is that sick ring light in the back?

Buy Sachtler once, it'll last your entire career.
wow ..thats a monster tripod
$1250 extra for the 100mm? More like $2000 more.
Great video!
isn't the Vinten video head more suitable for video work than the sachtler?
A question Armando: What's difference between Sachtler and Vinten head?. Thanks in advance
About those legs. How difficult would it be to take them apart to clean them after using them in salt water?
is there a travel version of this where the legs may collapse somehow for tighter storage?
Who picked the color palette of your room? It's quite nice.. also that tripod is insane. Someday I'll have one. Thanks for sharing.
Great video man!
Thanks man!
Hands down the dopest tripod available. Pricey, oh hell yeah, but once you've used it you'll see why. Awesome video & a dope bit of kit Armando.
I can't wait until B&H gets these back in stock!
You are 100% right!
Digital marketing: selling commercials about filmmaking on yt.
Filmmaking:busy making films.
Which one is this gentleman????
Skip Brewer don’t think I need to prove myself, there’s plenty of content available online to see what I’m doing
The twist onces are realy sturdy though.. i dont have that much of a strugle with my tripod. Nice telsell intro ;)
Really good review!
I don't have the money for the Satchler. What is the model of the BENRO ???
What is the tripod/slider combo in the shot at 8:56? I am on a pretty tight budget and that looks like a solid budget option!
Thumbnail caught my attention
I want that camera!!
I run into those tripod issues. How stable is this!? And it sounds like a lot of plastic. But the idea is interesting
Extremely stable, they are made of Carbon Fiber.
well... is ok. now I need it.
Just wondering if, after a year and a half, is this still your favorite tripod and head? Have you purchased another one?
Justin Allen use it everyday and still my favorite
@@mondobytes Thanks. My "buying a tripod" journey has gone from an initial thought of a $600.00 tripod, to the Flowtech 75 with an ACE head and now to the FS8 head. lol Of course at first I was just going to buy a BMD 6K but now I have ordered a 12K and a 6K so everything has gotten more expensive. And better! Thanks for this video, it's still making a difference.
Would you be able to mount a slider on it? or is the ball mount not compati-ball ?! lol
Say the price right at the start next time, saves everyone alot of heart break and depression lmao
Exactly. I get it, the argument for it. But lead with price in this case. Ohh wait.. If the price is said at the begining then most will click off, then he won't get the view time, or ads and that will translate to revenue loss for him. So i get it. But sneaky. Great content though.
Did you sell your other tripods ?
Great review!.
What are the drawers in the background? Been looking for something just like those!
not one video on how to put it together is there a red clip needed to connect the bowl?
Put what together? No assembly required.
@@mondobytes they updated the connecter, so it looks different than all the pics online
and the video instruction no red clip just all black
Is there any budget version of this?
Hi Armando! Could you please help me find a tripod dolly that is compatible with the Sachtler Flowtech75 tripod? Thank you! 🙂
I am about to make a jump (budget permitting) to a c500 Mark II, and I am trying to find a balance between naked run and gun to a kit with matte box, monitors, v-mount, etc... May this be one of the best tripods to pair with the modularity of the Canon c500 Mark II?
$1,500+ for legs.... You are living on another planet........ Gotta agree with others in the huddled masses.... I'll stick to my CF Benro units
