- In this video I show you an unboxing, review and even how I installed the Night Owl Security Camera System. This system has 8 channels and 8 cameras. This specific system films in 1080p, it has a spotlight and microphone feature. I've installed Wisenet security camera systems, as well as Cobra systems. I'm yet to install a Lorex security surveillance system but i'll make a comparison video as soon as I do. thanks for watching!

Your camera itself is pretty good, until it's not. You failed to resolve remote viewing issue, you log customers out of their accounts, and my DVR (2nd unit) doesn't work anymore.
This system sucks! what a waste of my hard-earned money. system records when it wants for however long it wants. I never get a complete video of the action happening. It pauses, jumps and super speeds videoing and on playback. Can only view videos on my phone, when I try on my laptop it tells me the DVR is offline! I used to be able to watch and download on my laptop.

Does the dvr store the activity that the cameras collect for any amount of time?
ide like to know how the software is for these systems. The cheapo HF systems are pretty clear and record well but to review you have to watch or sift through hours of footage to find events, Does this software have event markers in the replay? I see it has alarms when the motion sensors detect something but when you review the footage what does it look like?

Update, this camera system started giving us problems. The software keeps logging us out and it does not have audio recording.
Mine restarts on Sunday and yes 😊 you have to simply log back in to gain access to the recordings 😉
I just bought this exact same camera bundle system.. and i have a question how do i set up full video recording like 24/7 i know it does it by motion n face n vehicle recognition for maybe 20-30 second but i dont want them to operate just in motion i want them to record all the time how can i change it on the settings ?? I have the dvr hooked up to home monitor and aswell to my mobile apps phone ..

Can you view it on your when you are out and about? Or just when you are connected to the same Wi-Fi?
you can view it on the opposite side of the planet as long as you're connected to wifi and logged into the app

I recently bought this unit, and I must say that I am completely satisfied with it. Best bang for your buck. You will see some negative reviews, but people are not taking into consideration that this is “Not” a top tier professional surveillance system. You get what you pay for sometimes. In my opinion this is a great system for the diy home owner that does not want to spend alot of money. As far as longevity goes, I will have to find out for myself.

My DP8 burned out 2 days before my bike was stolen. I had a second one bought on ebay but can't unlock it. It came with unused cameras so wasn't stolen...but here I am watching a feed I can't make any use of...on 2 systems, as I write this.
3 years of storms and heavy rains I have 4 of the older black cameras “no lights” but can use up to 8. It’s the c20x and works just fine still especially if you take the time to set it up correctly and don’t go with the defaults.
I don't like night owl anymore, I like the lorex system, much more user friendly and customer service actually answered the phone
What voltage does the whole system use and will it hook up to a 12 volt battery in my rv

The cables it comes with are only 60ft long. You can buy longer bnc cables on Amazon. Up to 250ft!

Yes sir there’s cables up to 250ft. You just order them separate on Amazon. There’s also extension adaptors look up “BNC to BNC extension adapter”

yes! however in order to check it out you will need a monitor. the ethernet cable is only for viewing from your phone.

i'm glad you asked. You CAN'T talk live as well. This is something I got wrong and wish I would've known.
What type of monitor I can use or what monitor do you recommend?can be a regular 24 " Tv monitor any brand? Or has to be a computer monitor?
You can plug it into a regular 24" or any brand
It must be a monitor or TV that is a minimum resolution of 1080p regardless on the brand.

Great video, thank you for sharing. I have a client that wants me to install these but i only know how to install the wireless ones. These here are wires and need drilling to be done. If you live in my are I would give you the job so you can make your money. Im in Connecticut.

I'm on my 2nd system and the dvr quit still under warranty . All I get is the run around very discusted with night owl .
I started having a lot of problems with night owl, I no longer recommend them

Hey bud great review, but have a couple questions. Is wifi connected to the cameras themselves or the DVR? I ask because my wifi signal does not reach the front of my home where I'll have the cams setup, so I decided on getting a wired system, but live view will sometimes be neccessary. Also, is it truly recording 24/7? And I can comb over the footage at any point? Or does it just record when movement is sensed, like some others have stated? Thanks in advance for any info.
1.) The wifi is connected to the DVR
2.) On this system yes, it records 24/7, and it highlights when there is movement

Can you recommend a IT person who can come to my home. Nightowl has already replaced one recorder and now I'm on the 3rd and still I get "no signal" dealing with these people via the phone is not working...they are no help. I'm in the DFW area.

Did you connect the hdmi cord from the receiver to the monitor? is the monitor plugged into a power source?

So um...I'd like ANY no internet, no subscription, system that works with the wired 4k cameras, no microphone. Suggestions if any exist? Or am i reinstalling a new system now my 2 dp8 just show me a useless live feed?

yes, you can. as long as you connect the dvr to the wifi router. also, I'd go with the brand- LOREX they have a much better product

Yes, but I do not recommend this system anymore, night owl turned out to be garbage

You can, you just have to find an HDMI cable that is long enough to reach the other room
Great Video.... I Do Have a Question That Needs an Answer Because I Can't Find It and NO answer From Night owl Unfortunately. The View Option of How U See The Video Keeps Changing. It's Like Every Few Days The View With all Four Cameras on Screen Changes To One in Middle and 3 on the Side. So Is There a Way To Keep That From Happening or Change Setting To Default? Thanks in Advance!

@@vierdoesit but it made sense the first time. I think it's because you were in the confined space with all the wires around. Perhaps, if you do another video explaining the connections on a table first, or show a drawing of how the process goes you will feel like it's being more clearly conveyed.

any camera system you buy comes with the standard 60FT cables

I've installed a few different night owl systems but I've liked the night owl BTD2 series the most. The app interface is slightly complicated but it's really easy to use once you get the hang of it. They're not too pricy so if I had to say, yes they're worth it.

So do you need the computer screen?
its a monitor, only necessary for setup on this particular system. there are some systems that don't require a monitor to set up

Thanks for the question. Just wanted to clarify and elaborate slightly... with our older systems, a monitor was required for initial setup, as that was the only way the customer could proceed through the Startup Wizard and configure the system. However, a monitor is no longer required with our Bluetooth systems. The customer can connect to the recorder via the app using a Bluetooth connection and proceed through the Startup Wizard right from their mobile device. A monitor is purely optional with this setup. They can conveniently do it all right from the app.

Got a question, can this be operated wireless, I mean since you have no wifi, can these cameras be connected through Bluetooth only?
The cameras will work without wifi. You can also view them on the app without wifi but only within bluetooth range (bluetooth range with this system was like 10 feet)
I just installed them, the only down side is that they don’t have live audio but other than that there ok.

I bought these, tested them out before I installed. I installed, and now we're not getting any feed. Manually typed, couldn't find on Lan network, and didn't work with QR. Might have to return, these are trash in my experience. Giving it one more night before deciding to toss. I much prefer arlo pro 4, even though they're wifi and need to recharge. They're more user friendly

@@vierdoesit I have Alert360 security system I hate the update I got with them I get logged out and can never find when events taken place I have to waste my time looking the events. I get no notifications when thinks are happening. So I’m bailing out on them tomorrow. I’m looking at the Night Owl or Swann
