@Ruben, Turning right on a red is completely optional. As you note, full and complete stop, make sure the traffic is clear, scan for pedestrians who may be on crosswalk or sidewalk. Our reco is that if there is any doubt in your mind (fast cars to left, partially obstructed views) just wait it out until the light turns. But bottom line, perfectly acceptable if the conditions are right. Good luck!
If I’m trying to make a turn but there’s a pedestrian using the cross walk, do I have to wait until they completely make it to the sidewalk or can I go when I feel there’s enough space?
You only have to wait until you can safely pass the pedestrian. Clearly, during a driving test, you would want to err on the side of making sure that the pedestrian is well clear of your driving lane. But bottom line, you do not have to wait until they are out of the crosswalk. Good luck and please subscribe to our channel as it helps others find us.
Good luck tomorrow. Two situations detailed below. 1/ Technically you can turn into either lane, but best practice is to turn into the closest lane. Except when ... 2/ If there are those curved dash lane control lines that direct you to stay in one lane (Multi-lane turning). But for testing purposes, the safest option is to always turn into the closest lane. Good luck and let us know you how you do.
hi! i take my test at the end of next month so i've been trying to practice for it a ton and have watched all the routes. i have a few questions: 1. when i have to back out of the parking spot at the dmv to start the test, is it required for you to physically turn around when reversing? 2. i've heard tons of horror stories about the test and school zones. is it best to just follow school zone limit if i see kids no matter what or explicitly just follow the signage? --- ex: so if i see a sign that says "on flashing" --- but i see kids playing on the field for example --- should i still go the normal speed if the sign isn't flashing or slow down because kids are technically present (not on the sidewalk, sign doesn't say so)? - not sure if this makes sense, this one makes me the most nervous haha 3. on "left turn on flashing yellow," should i just wait before the crosswalk line until it's completely clear? or should i full stop, then inch into the intersection and wait? what if it goes to yellow, then red and people are still trying to make the lights on the other side? what if there's a car on the opposite side completely blocking my view? and what if i get honked at? what would be the best etiquette for the test? - also another thing that makes me nervous lol 4. if there's a double left turn, is it better to be on the inside left or outside left for the test? Is it specified or just up to me? 5. when returning to the dmv, i know that parallel parking is no longer required. so would i just need to park normally? does it matter how far from the dmv building itself that i park? or does the examiner tell me which spot to park in? am i allowed to correct my parking if i think it's a bit off or do i need to get it first shot? i'm desperately trying to cover all my bases; i think it's a bit better to be overprepared haha. thank you so much for this channel! i'll continue practicing and will come back with questions if i have any
hi hi so from what I know, the instructor will tell you what left you need to be in when a double left turn. So it is specified, they will tell you when your coming to it. (Thats what my instructor did ) So when returning back to the DMV, you return back to the spot you were park at before the test started. However, if you spot was taken then find a spot next to it or close to, the instructor wouldn't mind. You just park normally as you can. If you do mess up a bit on your parking when returning they will deduct small points of it. The point of the parking is just to see if you can park between the lines, as long your inside the two white lines even if its bit crooked your fine.
Hi, all good questions and clearly you are thinking through the process. 1. Yes, when reversing you should be turned to look out of the back window, and, scanning mirrors. Although back up cameras are increasingly common (and useful), you need to demonstrate you can back up without them. 2. School zones are important in Nevada - but it is pretty straight forward - just follow the instructions on the sign. If the conditions for speed reductions are not present (Children present, signals flashing) proceed at normal posted speeds. But it is helpful to make sure you demonstrate to the examiner that you are scanning for pedestrians and aware you are in a school zone. 3. With flashing yellows, you are permitted to cautiously enter the intersection and wait until traffic clears, allowing you to complete the turn. This may help. www.dot.nv.gov/safety/roadway-safety-improvements/flashing-yellow-arrow-turn-signal 4. Completely up to you. Just stay within your lane as you execute the turn, if they have the dashed lane guidance lines. 5. The examiner will direct you to where to return - also if you take a cruse through the DMV parking lot you will see the signage for returning cars. Good luck on your exam and come back and let us know how you did. Also, please subscribe as it helps others find us.
@@tiff1524hey I passed! 🎉 it wasn’t too bad. Mines was on flamingo, and I took it at 9am. My biggest recommendation is pay close attention to school signs!! That’s where you can get ding easily if not following the speeds. If you see kids drop from 25 to 15mph until you reach the end school white sign. And pretty much the basics make full complete stops (count 3 seconds in your head then go). Keep a good distance from cars and drive the speed limit to the point! They’re definitely watching for any fluctuations to ding you. When turning on green slow down to 20mph (half speed ideally for smooth turns). Don’t stop on green when turning but slow down proceed with caution. And constantly look your mirrors and blind spots and exaggerate it if need be when lane changing. Know your 2 way vs 4 way stops ( 1 stop right of way). Luckily we don’t have to perform parallel parking and curb parking. You got this! Just drive smooth and safely and calmly.
Hi!! I take my test tomorrow and i’m extremely nervous. Do you know what route they take for 2 pm and since it’s winter break do i still go 15mph in a school zone even though no children are present ?
Harmony Everyone is nervous before their test, try and relax, know the area, and you'll do fine. The actual courses are up to the examiner and can change, but we have 3 routes videoed at W. Flamingo DMV and feel that we have things covered. Don't think about it being winter break - rather - pay attention to the School Zone signs. Most of them will state a speed limit control (15 MPH) - "When Children Present" or more typically "When Signals Flashing". Otherwise maintain posted speeds. It is important to stay +/- 10 MP within posted speeds, so if there is no trigger for the reduced speed (ie children or flashing lights) keep your speed up. Make sure you are early so you are relaxed before the test and remember your examiner will NOT try and trick you, they simply want to ensure you have sound driving skills.
i take my test on Thursday..since it’s summer break do i still go 15mph in the school zone? should i just slow down to 15 at every school zone no matter what
Scout, hope this gets to you in time. 1. Always obey speed restrictions at school zones throughout the year. They always apply. 2. You should only slow down based on the "restriction" - which are typically "if children present" or "if signals flashing". 3. If the condition for the restriction is not present, then you can maintain your normal speed. I always encourage students to be extra alert and exhibit to the examiner that you are actively scanning and monitoring for pedestrians and children. Good luck on your test. Let us know how you did. YOU GOT THIS!!
if I was to turn right at a stoplight… is it ok if I ease up to the crosswalk to see better after I stopped completely behind the crosswalk line? Idk if that made sense lol
Both good questions. Turning right on a stop light is certainly permitted, but use caution. If there is any doubt about your ability to make a clean right hand turn best to wait until the light changes. If you are turning, make sure you scan for cars and pedestrians in all directions. WRT creeping into the intersection ... Normally it is fine to "creep and peep" into an intersection if visibility is impaired from the left hand side. Stop behind the limit line, then inch forward as necessary until you feel you are clear to go. This normally applies when you have a stop sign. But if you are at a red light, I would probably simply wait it out. If you do creep forward, and then other cars start entering the intersection, you could end up blocking traffic or pedestrians. So permitted on a red light - yes. Recommended - no. Good luck and tell your friends about our channel so we can help more new drivers.
If the school zone sign has a speed restriction "when children present", it only applies when there are children in the area. Otherwise, you can proceed at normal posted speed limits.
Jasmine, good luck on your exam. The speed limit when you turn from S. Cimarron onto W. Flamingo is 45 MPH.. We hope you do well - come back and let us know!
When turning left, always a best practice to 'stay in your lane'. This particular intersection has 2 marked turn lanes onto S. Buffalo. Which lane you use depends on which lane you are in on W. Falmingo. If you are in the left lane, use the left lane on Buffalo. If you are in the 2nd turning lane, then best to steer to the middle lane on Buffalo. You will have lots of time on S. Buffalo should your examiner ask you to change lanes. Good Luck!
Huyen, our understanding is that if you fail a third time, you may need to go back and retake your behind-the-wheel drivers ed training. You should take the comments made by the DMV examiner seriously, and spend as much time practicing as you can. It will cost some additional $$$, but before taking your 3rd test, consider going back to your drivers ed school / instructor and booking a 2 hour session. Bring the feedback you received from the DMV examiner and they can help you with any problem areas. I know it's stressful, they key is practice (which will build confidence). Good luck
Will they take off point for turning right when the light is red ? But you checked of course to see no cars are coming and did a fully complete stop
