    Mick's production is top tier as usual but actual mix that was released feels like it completely underutilized the elements of mick's production.

      I was about to say the same things. Although I understand, it's a primarily Monuments track, not a Mick Gordon track, and therefore most of his production isn't the main focus of the song and gets "left behind".

    • @BrofUJu

      It's just so hard to fit this stuff in when the guitars need to be upfront and the synths are playing similar or same lines.

    • @davidbmixing
      @davidbmixing 2 года назад +15

      @@BrofUJu yup, the unfortunate truth of big sessions, a lot of really cool stuff has to be relegated to the texture side of things

      @@davidbmixing I do trailer music and started to realize if I added 400 layers it just became pointless lol Mick also puts synths way more up front in his stuff, but there's also no vocals to compete with

      I feel like this is a dumb thing to say. The post production is literally meant to add texture, not there for it be heard. Just add stuff to the instruments. You would definitely heat a different if the post Pro was removed

    First time I actually heard what Mick Gordon did on this song. It's possible it's not totally the mixing but the arrangement might not have left room for Mick's parts to flourish. Would be very keen on an alternative arrangement/mix where the guitars took a back seat some of the time. Strings are fine to take a back seat too, but the extra perc, pulses, and synth leads needed to be the main line at times in order to meet the expectation someone would have to see Mick's name attached to a track.

    • @dbwastooshort
      @dbwastooshort 8 месяцев назад +1

      I mean tbh, it is a progressive / modern metalcore album, the guitar being the forefront is a MASSIVE part of the genre, and for the band. The synth parts are meant to support the song and fill it out, they arent meant to be directly heard, but felt. I understand your point though and it wouldve been sick to hear them more but also i think the fact andy's now in the band, his insane parts are whats meant to take the forefront always. Im sure part of the reason they put micks name in some of the titles tho is purely for that extra click factor, dont blame monuments for that LMFAO

    • @joshpisawesome
      @joshpisawesome 8 месяцев назад

      @@dbwastooshort I don't think either of us are in a position to say what the intentions of the song were. But if the synth parts were merely to fill things out, then why get Mick Gordon? For the extra clicks like you imply? Doesn't add up at all. And I never blamed anyone for anything. Just expressed some disappointment that Mick's parts can't really be heard despite the effort he made and the skill he has. And all the songs are all about the guitars, why not inch them back in the small window where Mick is a part of this effort? I am not losing sleep over this, just going through the logic.

  • @blankspace0000

    Agree with everyone here saying that the synths were not forward enough in the final mix, I would like to have heard them more clearly as well. But I will say that I'm sure that was a deliberate decision to blend them into the guitars rather than feature them and the band must have also signed off on that.

    I love the guitars. But I'd love to hear a no guitar version of this song. I knew mick was involved in this but you don't hear the massive extent to which he's involved... its outrageously good and mind opening / blowing... as in I hear the soled synth track and I feel my brain react to the sounds 🤤

    What’s the point of all this epic production if it’s not going to be audible? I understand texture and all but this is really cool cyberpunk style production and the song is straight progressive metal core. Why get Mick on a track if not for a more Doom style song?

  • @onion69420
    @onion69420 7 месяцев назад

    Oh man the synths had to compete with the vocals and guitars, so the vocal being priority first and guitars second, the synths had to be turned down and many of micks parts had to be turned down

    Lot's of people in here demonstrating why they're not pro mixers. "Make the cool thing louder" isn't always the way.

    • @Rachel8260
      @Rachel8260 11 месяцев назад +2

      exactly! it’s post production! it’s not *supposed* to be loud. Mick made these synths like this on purpose and they were mixed in a way that compliments the song

    • @joshpisawesome
      @joshpisawesome 8 месяцев назад +1

      Untrue. It's a prioritization preference. Many commenters would have preferred some sacrifice of the guitars. It's not a bad mix though by any means.

    Coming back to this 1 year after first comment, and, yes, this mixing absolutely butchered Mick's Production ... this dude is great at mixing, but what he did was ... sucked lol
