We Get Early Access to the Python Mk 2 in Elite Dangerous Odyssey + New Pre-Built Ships Packages

- Today we get early access to the Python MK 2 in Elite Dangerous Odyssey! The new Stellar Variant of the Python MK 2 will be available for purchase with ARX starting on May 7th! Being a member of the Elite Dangerous partner program allowed me to see just how much win or fail this new pre-built ship package would be in Elite Dangerous Odyssey.
Do you think FDEV introducing pre-build ship packages like the Python MK II constitutes pay to win? Or perhaps it's more pay to skip a day for the luxury of never having a rebuy again? Anyways let me know how you feel down in the comments below!
Good luck to all those who stuck through the video long enough to realize I'm also doing a giveaway!

All three winners were chosen by a RUclips random comment picker last night. I just contacted them to let them know of their glorious victory. If I don't hear back from any of the lucky Commanders I will pick another.
FYI after I got this video out yesterday I spent my time fully engineering this beast. I am currently filming the brutality of what this ship can do all with a 0 rebuy cost. Needless to say she is one hell of a ship cause honestly. I suck at combat LOL!
I'm regretting not scanning that other Partner Program member in their Python Mk II early today. If it was you let me know please!
Looks interesting - thanks for sharing this! :D
Since I am mostly playing Solo, the Python MKII will probably end up as an AX-ship for me.
4x Large Shards... (plus 2 medium ones if you fit a Weapons stabilizer)... and a very good convergence... might make a good alternative to an AX-Conda. ^^
What bothers me so far:
1.) If I get this right, one can't store any of the Modules from a pre-engineered ship, correct?
If this is correct, this is... odd. It's not like I will spend millions of ARX to get specific modules. ;)
2.) That 5a SCO FSD:
If the ONLY way getting your hands on that Module is via buying a Pre-build Ship... that IS actually a d...uck-move.
That being said: I kinda hope we are going to get A-Rated SCO-FSD via tech-brokers.
I have no problem with them being pay-materials-2-buy; there are still a lot of Titan Drive Components in the Titan-Wrecks, would be kinda odd to only have them being in the game for one singular Community Event. o_0
I wonder if FDev is going to miss this opportunity in order to pay-wall modules.
This would really alienate a lot of players... and alienated player are... not ~very~ likely to spend more money on the game... *stares FDev dead in the eyes* ... wouldn't they....? 👁👁
If they want feedback from you, you can tell them this:
There is at least one player * waves * that is not going to hand them any money if money is the only way to get certain modules.
Pay-2-get-early-access is no issue for me.
Pay_WALLING something is.
Fly safe, Commander! :D

Interesting about the heat sinks.
So for the base ship of the mk 2 can you outfit it in your liking?
@@ryanmason8593 can be outfitted however you want.
Thanks for the vid! ❤
4 large hardpoints on a maneuverable ship can dish out a lot of hurt.
exactly
Thinking if better than 4 medium and one huge. I'd say so, however.
Good to have your sense of humour slapped all over elite again Hawkes
I really had to remember to shoehorn it in here and there. Kind of like the fin behind the cockpit of the pre-built python MK II.
@HawkesGaming well ur style of presenting information is very unique and you have helped me a great deal in elite, for which I say thankyou
Wishing you all the best out there
I'm an old player, but super excited for this. Looks awesome. FDEV did some great things with this MK2. I honestly don't mind paying for this. They deserve it. I want to see Elite last longer. It's the only thing that keeps me sane after work, and dealing with family life.
My mistake absolutely agree with you. Was dreading the slog to upfit a federal dropship and now the Python MK2 will let me take on combat and bounty work while giving me the resources to fit the dropship out
Definitely looks like a ship that took five years to build
Glad to see you doing Elite Dangerous content again. Always enjoy your Elite videos.
Your videos are always entertaining and informative. Thanks for always being upbeat in your videos!
Thanks cmdr I've been loving your content for the last 4 years
Happy to see you make Elite videos again cmdr!
Feels good!
Hawkes thanks for all your guides over the years!
Definitely going to pick up the Python Mk II prebuilt. Love the videos you have helped me tremendously with the game thank you Cmdr O7.
Thanks for the video!
Awesome looking wagon, looking forward to adding it to the fleet... Thanks again Hawkes, will defo support FDev
Thanks Hawkes for all the great videos.
Glad to see you making content again. I got in this thing becoz your vids
Hawkes!!!! so happy you are staying on top of all this bro, love the discord and love all the help. not sure if im a fan of the fin on the python but yeah cant wait to try it out
Looking forward to more of your awesome Elite Dangerous content !
The best Pre-build Mk2 review, detailed nicely, thank you! 👍
I am looking to get into combat with FA off and the python looks interesting but the mamba is the ship i'm gonna use first and engineer the hell out of it so that paintjob would be truly splendid
Right on! Great video man!
Can't wait for the 7th. Thanks for the info.
Looking forward to the new arrivals for ED, jealous that you got to try them out early
I bought the standard Python Mk2, kinda now wish I'd got the prebuilt one though. great video thx
Your Elite content has been instrumental to my enjoyment of this game. Your content is amazing. Fun and educational. Keep it up, please.
Thank you so much Commander! I'll try my best! Very big videos incoming soon.
I really like this new ship. I'm currently out in the black with my Anaconda to get the 5kLY quest to unlock thrusters. But the python and Vulture were my most favorite ships when i first started. Love the channel and hope you're doing well Hawkes!
Doing great thanks for asking!
that ship is basically two vultures and more!
6:08 You need a laser if you want to activate Guardian beacons. And there could be other exploration targets out in the galaxy somewhere that you need to tickle with a laser cannon
Elite Dangerous still looks impressive. I might consider trying Odyssey during a sale. Great video, as always, Hawkes. ✌
Good video thanks Hawkes. Haven’t googled the price point yet.
Definitely going to be spending some coin on the 7th. Was planning on buying in game another Python or a Krait for some bounty hunting fun, but now looks like it'll be a PMKII. (Most probably a Krait as well anyway) >:) A note to fellow CMDRs when planning a core mining run and got your triple hotspot and sell dest. sorted, scan and find a sweet core rock, don't forget to swap out a module for your REFINERY or your day is going to SUX. But at least I didn't have to worry about manually docking when going back to get it.
the type 6 with that kit and paint job looks really good
Im thinking new queen of shards. Since the python is my AX ship of choice!
This seems fine, its pay for a hand up, not a trophy.
mind sharing your AX build ?
@@LateGameReviewer01 two versions, basic AX is centered around 5x C2 mod shard cannons. A pair of V1 heat sink launchers, C3 stabilizer, G5 hull modules, a couple module re enforcements, thrusters are G5A dirty drags. The power plant is over charged. Shut down neutralizer of course.
For the record this is not an AXI approved meta cold orbit build. This rig is for my favored Leron Jenkins impressions. Its fine against basis and cyclops. Try this kind of self cooking build on a hydra…. Get used to the rebuy screen.
The other version is built for titan bombing, and works…. Ok. That one is running 3C3 enhances AX racks (vanilla i did not bother engineering them) a C2 nanite torpedo rack, and a C2 heat vent beam laser. I have a vanilla C3 prismo (shields help with hiding among asteroids or the unseen caustic mine in the maelstrom). Standard G5A dirty drag drives, armored power plant on this one, 2x caustic sinks, a pulse neutralizer, and a V1 heat sink launcher. Ive got more than enough credits that I don’t really care about repair limpits. I get 2 or three core attacks in before I become space debris, but it’s enough for me.
I ran a clipper for a few titan attack runs and oddly enough it was the only ship I got all the vents with in one go.
The python 2 im rigging for titan attacks only for now. The thing boosts to 570 and my hull is over 2500. Im running the crazy expensive “reflective plating” and engineered armor modules. The extra speed and maneuverability are very nice. Plus the thing handles way better at low wake using the “over charge” than anything else i tried those FSDs on. Weapon convergence is excellent on the P2.
There were some rumors that Pmk2 requires a large landing pad, so I'm happy to see it's still a medium pad ship.
Can't wait to use the new overcharging modules
May have to look at spending rm for the early access and paint job - The Python II looks really cool!
I was waiting for your video on the glorious mk2
I said OMG too much but it is quite glorious indeed!
Thanks for the content on the new ships. I'd be curious to see what you would engineer on the Python MK II.
I was planning on showing it fully pimped out.
Awesome ship and another great video ! Keep going FDEV
Will be good to see this in game.
Great video as always Hawkes. I hope this new strategy gives FDev some extra cash they can continue investing in the game. Even if it's just to see more of your videos around!
Great content !! Can´t wait for the new ship
It's amazing!
I'm looking forward to this ship. For the novelty, if nothing else. It will be fun to experiment with, though. Maybe a Titan Bomber build for Hadad. 🤔
Looking fwd to this!!!
Nice video as always
I have a question: do you have to go to a particular station to get the ships or you just buy them on the arx-store and every station?
Anyway.
I’m happy that the arx-prebuild ships aren’t overpowered, they are just good enough if you start out, and a nice little boost if you are more experienced. I was scared that Frontier was going the pay-to-win route. I’m glad they didn’t! This python is one hell of a beautiful beast! Loved your vid !
Im sure it's going to work like any other ship. Not all systems will have them when you buy with in game money but some will. Inara will update once it goes live. If you buy a pre-built from the ARX store you can pull it out from any station. I noticed when I pulled my prebuilt out I had to first pull it out into the actual world. Then I could make it my primary ship. I hope that helps.
Yeah this is a good financial decision by FDEV and i hope it works for their bottom line. I'm glad they have purpose built ships for specific methods of making credits to help new players get in the game. At the level they are targeting this ships I don't see anything wrong with it and if it fills the servers back up with new players then I'm a happy commander! Awesome all round!
That looks pretty cool and about time for some new ships.
Exactly. I Imagine if this pans out well for fdev selling pre-built ships then will really put focus on pumping out new ships.
I wonder if I still remember how to play Elite, but I will for sure come back once the Python II is purchasable in game
Can't wait to give the python MK II a spin! FDev is giving me a reason to step off the bridge of my corvette for once haha.
Not really concerned with arx-purchasable ships, they all contain stuff you can (relatively) easily get in the game with credits and materials, so it's not like you really get any advantage for doing it other than time saved, with a disadvantage of restricting yourself to that ship's build (can't store its modules).
Tomorrow is the day and I can’t wait I’m really looking forward to this I hope they have the dark black paint job ohhh
Congrats Commander! You are one of the lucky winners! To claim your ship skin simply join my official discord channel and send me a direct PM with your RUclips username and some random comment. To ensure it's you all I need you to do is also reply to this comment on RUclips with what you sent me over discord. If they match I send over the skin! =)
I´m sort of divided about the pre-builds - even though I´m quite a new player. But the Python mk II looks sooo sick! 😍
Oh that 450T base hull mass is something to behold
You know it
@@HawkesGaming I think the clipper just got replaced as the designated ramming boat lol
Love your stuff Hawkes 😊
whatever the heck you want down below
ohh yeah someone made it far enough hehe good luck!
Awesome ship, looks good and it likes the SCO drive, bring on the next ship!!!
The Python II will be a game changer, especially with the SCO. For PvP, it'll be a FDL and Mamba Killer. I can see it ripping through the top-level big ships, but to a lesser extent. With having less optionals (as compared to the Python I), you won't be a full-on shield or armor tank in this. Using speed and quick strikes will be mandatory when facing a Cutter or Corvette.
Great video sir. I'm no PvP'r but she sure looks the real deal, and when other commanders get their paws on her I'm sure we'll find out what she can really do.
Bro im ready bust all over my keyboard after seeing that magnificent ship dam
Looks like it might be worth it, hopefully this helps f dev get more ships made
I've never felt such imersion in a game as with ED. It's the only game for me, where you feel you really are living it.
This is awesome! ❤
I'm super excited for the Python MK II to be added to the game next week, and I actually like the idea of being able to buy preconfigured ships. It should be a great way for new commanders to try out some new activities without investing a huge amount of time to equip a ship themselves, just to find out they don't like mining/exploring/AX combat. I'm probably going to splurge and pick up the stellar edition MK II, just so I can get into some fun, re-buy free shenanigans.
Makes a change to see the a free cutter skin. Usually it’s just aspx
looking forward to the new ships coming. Good times for Elite coming.
i cant wait to pick up these ships!
"Whatever the heck you want down below!"
JK, it is great to see another Hawkes Elite Vid. You were the one that really got me launched into this galaxy and you are always my first choice for Elite content!
I’m a new player who’s mostly only interested in mining / cargo stuff (maybe it’s weird, but I’ve always loved space games where you can mine things, and core asteroid mining is really cool), so the lack of internal slots is a little sad to me for the mk2. But the SCO stuff and how it sounds still makes me want to get it, maybe just for courier missions or to try out combat (I’m not a huge fan of combat in general) vs NPCs haha.
Really hoping the A rating SCO drives won’t be true paywall / only for this ship though. That would suck.
SCO drives will be available for other ships as well, they're gonna release them in all grades like normal FSDs, so save your money if you need! You can't swap prebuilts ship parts onto others.
A Type-9 with an SCO drive gets out of planetary gravity hilariously fast! 😂
Relatively new to ED. This looks sick!
I sometimes laugh when people talk about pay to win. It's only pay to win if the pilot knows how to fly and of course anyone can buy these ships. I wonder if FDev would make a stripped down version in game to build however we want. I'm not interested in buying a ship that I can't customize. Having said that This is still good for Elite and good for Frontier. It's about time they add content to the game.
Normal versions can be unlocked the same day and purchased in August as well. You don't have to buy the prebuilts!
I’d say the pay to win claims are justified based on my understanding. Though I’d say it’s more impactful regarding new players than against older players who have credits built up.
And that’s just based on the concept of there being no insurance needed for it. My understanding is that’s only related to the version bought through the cash shop.
So is it the worst pay to win? Nah. Does it open the door for worse? Sure. Especially if they continue to put new ships out with early access based on paying.
Looks good, gonna grab one in August for some PvE roaming and shooting. Not a fan of early access I'll keep the Arx for some cosmetics for it later on.
Thanks for the vid.... p mk2 looks rly good...
I totally agree great looking and feeling ship. It really handles well which I didnt feature in the video much at all.
New python looks so damn good I'm thinking about putting the arx to get the early access.
Sooo do you think they will start making Mk II's of all the other ships in the game ?? Or maybe add the option to just buy a package to upgrade your existing ship ? Great video thank you.
They did say four variants this year. So my guess is variants of other ships specialized to do something particular in Elite.
@@HawkesGamingType 8 was mentioned as the next "variant" ship in the last frontier unlocked livestream
The Type 8 will be the next one
I wonder down the line the Alliance will get their equivalent to the Imperial Cutter and Federal Corvette.
Welcome back
worth the price from what I can see then... nice!
I lost the elite bug last year… waiting to see if any of the new stuff sparks it again.
It sparked the hell out of me when i fileld the entire best start with my friend playing just off camera. It was so good on so many levels.
Hope this is start to a long line of ships that will come out soon!
Well I have strong feels if Fdev sees a lot of sales they will focus on creating new ships on the regular again.
I was looking to find out what was under the hood before I dropped 33000 ARX and you told me everything I needed to know, Thanks The ship looks great but at these prices, they may end up giving the name "Elite Dangerous" a whole new meaning. As long as they don't go pay to win I don't have a problem with it.
Hey, Hawkes! Great video. I mean, who doesn't love a massive probe, right??
Lol Exactly
Looking forward to seeing if this will be ax viable
Time to check back in with ED! o7
I’m really liking the ship the more stats I see. Not a Jack of all trades but possibly better than FDL and KmkII
Any idea what the special feature the mk2 is supposed to have?
Special feature of being a very good combat ship to learn how to fight in. Lots of hull and 4 x size 3 pew pew while being mega maneuverable. It's even more brutal when it's fully engineered. I think FDEV wants 12 bucks for that. Well worth it when you can't lose the engineered modules or pay a rebuy. Plus comes with 5A SCO drive thats godly.
It can fly more stable and cooler when using the SCO drive in boost during supercruise
I will be buying the Python MKII.
Ric did a review on stream and it apparently hanles comparable to the FDL runs a bit hot tho
I can see some epic Python MK II and FDL battles in my minds eye. One pays a rebuy one does not Dun Dun Dun lol.
Might even tempt me back to Elite…it’s been a while!
I had a blast playing alongside my friend while I filmed the best start video I'll be working on shortly. No joke it brought back a lot of feels.
Can you put engineering on the modules?
This ship is looking good!!I am so getting it.
I dont blame you one bit!
does the ship come with weapons etc
Definitely getting the Mk2 on the third.
I'm definitely buying one!
Looking forward to taking her out for a spin 🙂
You're going to spend at least 5 minutes just boosting around once you get her in space. LOL I'm not even kidding you.
Well didn't take long for a higher grade SCO drive to appear eh?
As an aside I'd really appreciate if instead of simply adding another FDL comparable combat ship they also took the time to rebalance current ships a bit. Sucks having only one or two utility mounts on some ships and 79 available on bigger ships for example. Obviously bigger ships should have more slots but the disparity is just too large imo. Plus, there's just a number of "useless" ships that could use a bit of a buff stat-wise. I'm looking at you Asp Scout.
Make small ships great again!11
If I had to guess and bet all my money on a FDL variant I would put all my money on it being one of the next three variants to be released.
Could be, could be. My guess, with the type 8 being announced, is the other two ships will be the Mamba Light and Panther Clipper. A man can dream!
a better texture could have made that winglet join look like a proper seam
Truly Glorious!
The Python mk2 looks epic, but I don’t have any spare change to buy it :(
Well, I'm still a bit skeptical about the whole ships-for-real-money thing, but I'll grant that as long as it stays away from "end-game" ships and builds, it might not be too bad. But will it? There's always that fear, about "opening the door" and where things will lead in the future. I guess time will tell.
Also not sure how I feel about paying real money for the benefit of never having to pay a rebuy in-game. I mean, I understand that you shouldn't lose something you've paid real money for. That seems right. I guess it just begs the question though -- should this be something you can obtain with real money? Just remove all consequences with a little cash-up-front?
when the metal meets the space. It creates space.
