Appreciate it for what it is guys. Old-school dark ride that costs under 2 bucks to go on. Knoebels is free admission, great for a budget trip. It's a great little park✌️
I doubt any of the critics have actually rode this in person. The video just doesn't capture the charm of the ride, and it definitely doesn't capture the feeling of riding this as a young child for the first time
At least Disney immersed you in the ride before you got on. Including having their cast members dress up and role play to the ride. Which made it kinda fun. Even more so when the cast members were having fun acting out their part.
This is such a great ride. I love it as much as the one at Disney, as "blasphemous" as that may be. What doesn't really show up in the video is how dark it is in there... and how sudden and close the gags are when they trigger. It's legitimately startling at times.
I remember this ride like petrified me as a kid, and I haven’t gone on it in years. But the strange part is that I was the most scared of something that wasn’t even in the ride itself. Like I legit misremembered a giant omnipotent face taking up an entire wall near the end of the ride and that was why I refused to go on it on subsequent visits for years
This is a little better than the dark rides they drag around state fairs; nice duration for $2.50 The couple of dark rides at Santa Cruz are pretty good too, love the cave train.
This video brought me back so many memories of me and my wife, she loved this ride. Me and her got on it like 10 times one time. She passed away last year, I miss her so much. We had great times. Why is life so unfair ??
As a PA native, riding this was one of my biggest dreams at 6 years of age. Ended up almost having a mental breakdown after the train whistle (this video nor any will ever come close to how loud it is and how bright the lights are) and thought I was going to die on that ride. At 24 years old with a 6 year old of my own, I still feel the same way. Dont judge it until you try it! Haha **edit** I lived literally directly next to a train track (within 25-30 yards of my home) all my childhood and it would go by at 3am and could sleep soundly as a baby. Knobles really did a good job making it sound as loud if not louder than real ones, along with the lighting. ****edit to the edit**** it's a truck lol
that's pretty hilarious in a few places. gotta agree that the honking/alarm sounds were a bit annoying, but that was a trope of ''old-timey'' spook houses, wasn't it?
This ride TERRIFIED me as a kid, particularly the truck and horn at the end. I still went on it every year my family went, but this ride is probably one of the most memorable.
The thing I noticed was that there were too many different themes. The Disney one tells a story but this one seems to have a mix of scary images and no connecting storyline.
I think the 'theme rides' are bit more current than those of 30 or so years ago.... as I kid it was just 'jump scares'.... which this tries.. but I agree LOUDDDD!
@@Anecdotal1 That is true. Haunted House attractions were just a series of unrelated scares and no storyline. I hope you don't mind my sharing this story about when I was going round the Chamber Of Horrors in the waxworks in Blackpool. A group is were walking round when suddenly a door opened slowly. We were all really nervous - and then a little guy in an overall came out with a sweeping brush. What an anti-climax!
It doesn’t help that it seams like it tries to get guests in and out so quickly you can barely tell what you’re looking at before you’re shuffled along to the next scene. I mean the Haunted Mansion at Disney is like 10 minutes or so long and moves at a snails pace in comparison.
An old school hunted house ride. I remember one at Wild Wood NJ, when I was a child, 70'2 early 80's, same kind of rounded riding cars, how the doors would open like this video. I don't thing it was as elaborate as this one though. Put a smile on my face. :)

@@lunahetfield so loud that I think the main reason why the ride is "scary" is because of how loud it is in there. Let's just say if it wasn't as loud, it wouldnt have felt that stressful riding it
This was neat, I love how they used the light to flash a scene and then turn it off so you go back to darkness, lots of cool stuff in there amazing. :)
What a quaint old ride! I have dreams about making rides like this...IDK why but I do. This is the kind of old time vintage fun you can enjoy no matter who you are.
This is a super good video quality wise for a dark ride, but two things you don't get are the disorienting affect from being in the car with the fast twists and turns, especially in the psychedelic room, and the really nifty iridescent glowing skull pulley system in front of the wall of mirrors which is really a cool effect irl.
Wish they didn’t remove some of my favorite effects such as the air blast when the creature comes out of the oven, and especially the rotating tunnel that made you feel like you were spinning.
Everyone's commenting that Disney's in a lot better but at least you can get on this ride without waiting 2 hours. Also, admission to this park is free, if that's comprehensible to people comparing the two.
I really like Knoebels. The park is free to enter and you only pay for the rides you get on, which is perfect for my husband and daughter who don’t ride a lot. They get a better deal there than Hershey Park. Knoebels also has a pool that you can swim all day for very little expense.
The story behind this "haunted" mansion is that an explorer has taken a cursed artifact from somewhere tropical (hence the jungle segment), and now, human abominations, spirits, witches, werewolves, and vampires haunt it. My guess is that this explorer probably invited several demonic entities to infest his home, conducted inhumane experiments on other human beings (2:05), and was overall involved with weird science long prior to taking that artifact home.
I can smell this video. It's so comforting though. Good childhood memories! My favorite room is the floating skull room (which I saw a snippet of through a door crack here) so maybe they're working on something in there.
I think I would already be frightened from riding those little red trolley from the fear of it falling apart during the ride (going so fast and being thrown around side to side) because they are so OLD....
Most of my class trips were to Knoebels. In Florida, my son got to go to Epcot. But then my daughter once went to a crayon factory. Knoebels is just right for me. I would host the family there at least once a year if I could.

Looks like a nice dark ride. Question though. The sign at the beginning said no hand stamps or bands. I've not been to this park yet. Are all of their rides this way? No ride all day passes? Or does this ride just cost extra?
They usually only have all day ride passes available during weekdays with certain rides excluded from the pass like this one Ride passes with the coasters included are priced separate Weekends it's tickets only
I haven't been to Knoebels in about 20 years, but this was always one of the few rides excluded from the all-day passes. Because the park doesn't charge admission, you usually pay per ride, but the all-day passes allowed you to ride everything as many times as you liked... except the Haunted Mansion, which was always pay-per-ride. From what I recall, the reason it wasn't included on the pass was because teenagers would start vandalizing the props after multiple rides. Keeping it as a pay-per-ride attraction limited repeats, which led to far less vandalism.
